Why I supported the IRA: Republican forced to defend backing for terror group... as he chairs hearing into Islamic radicals By MATT BLAKE Last updated at 2:58 PM on 9th March 2011 A Republican congressman has defended his support for the IRA during the height of the Troubles that blighted Northern Ireland and England in the 1980s and 1990s. In an astonishing defence of one of the most bloodthirsty terror groups in recent memory, Peter King, 66, said his issue wasn't with the Irish Republican Army (IRA) because it 'never attacked America'. He said the IRA were different from al-Qaida because it was a narrowly focused homegrown movement while the Islamic terror group has ...

Father of Murdered 5-Year-Old Says He'll Make Sure Killer Suffers Same Fate

The father of a 5-year-old boy killed in 1975 is vowing to murder his son's killer if the man is released, as scheduled, several years early from a 40-year sentence. John Foreman said in an interview Monday with WPRO-AM radio that he will kill convicted murderer Michael Woodmansee "as aggressively and as painfully" as he killed his son if Woodmansee is released from prison early. Woodmansee, who was 16 years old at the time, kidnapped and killed Jason Foreman in 1975 in South Kingstown, R.I. He confessed and was convicted of second-degree murder eight years later. Jason Foreman was presumed to be missing until 1982, when Woodmansee tried to lure another boy into his home. ...

Intruder calls 911, afraid homeowner may have gun

(CNN) -- This time it was the intruder who called 911. A man who broke into a house in Portland, Oregon, called police -- afraid the homeowner may have a gun. The suspect, Timothy James Chapek, was in the bathroom taking a shower when the homeowner returned to the house Monday night, Portland police said in a statement. Accompanied by two German shepherds, the homeowner asked Chapek what he was doing in the house. Chapek locked himself in the bathroom and made an emergency call, police said. He said he had broken into the house, the owner had come home, and that he was concerned the owner might have a gun. The homeowner also called the police to report that he had found a man in the ...

Muslims anxious, active ahead of radicalization hearings

Every day this week, American Muslim activists are working overtime to prepare for congressional hearings on "the radicalization of American Muslims" that open Thursday. Sunday saw Muslim demonstrators gather in New York's rain-drenched Times Square to protest the hearings, standing with celebrities like Russell Simmons and other non-Muslims who held signs declaring "I am Muslim, too." On Monday, representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations - a national Muslim advocacy group - met will sympathetic Capitol Hill staffers to discuss communications strategy and grassroots organizing to counter Islamophia. On Tuesday, a coalition of major Muslim, ...

Obama's failure to support America's allies in the Middle East and his dithering endorsement of chaos in the region will send oil and gasoline prices skyrocketing, triggering a massive bout of stagflation. Harry reid more worried about prostitutes than economy

The most powerful man in the United States Senate, addressing the legislature of his home state at a time of fiscal chaos and potential government shutdown, had something he wanted to talk about Tuesday: hookers. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s impassioned lecture landed in Carson City with a thud. "The time has come for us to outlaw prostitution,” Reid said in his biennial address to the Nevada legislature and an audience that included a legal brothel owner, legal prostitutes and the legal industry’s state lobbyist. Reid paused at that point, one of the few times he did so in a half-hour speech he otherwise seemed to rush through. No one applauded. The ...

Wisconsin State Senate Republicans Took Hundreds Of Thousands In Government Farm Subsidies

WASHINGTON -- At least three of the Wisconsin state Senate Republicans currently demanding that public workers sacrifice benefits, wages and even collective bargaining rights for the sake of the budget have applied for and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal farm subsidies, a Huffington Post review of state and federal records shows. From 1995 through 2009, state Sens. Luther Olsen, Dale Schultz and Sheila Harsdorf all had stakes in farms that received between them more than $300,000 in taxpayer funds. Those federal appropriations had no direct impact on the state’s current budget woes, but the cash spent on those subsidies, which went to support a range of functions ...

Climate experts argued again about global warming in Congress Tuesday while lawmakers rethink whether to penalize industries for greenhouse gas emissions. clearpxl A House committee is considering a bill introduced last month to roll back the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to limit emissions from factories and power plants. The bill is an effort to relieve the regulatory burden on industry and prevent jobs from being exported to China, where environmental regulations are less stringent. The committee vote on the Energy Tax Prevention Act could come as soon as Thursday, according to congressional aides. Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), an author of the bill, said the ...

This is truly pathetic - and a sign that the magic of Obama and his hold on youth is disappearing faster than you can say "$14 trillion in debt." CBS News: The White House is ramping up an effort to promote a nationwide competition to decide which high school wins a commencement speech by President Obama. An internal White House memo indicates that the White House is facing a shortage of applications less than a week before the deadline. The competition was extended from the February 25 deadline until Friday, March 11 after few schools met the original application deadline. CBS News has learned a White House Communications Office internal memo dated February 22 noted "a ...

In just the last couple weeks, the Air Force has done some serious waffling on its controversial plan to use conventionally-armed Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles to take out terrorist targets. Controversial, because every ballistic missile launch — nuke or non-nuke — looks the same on radar, so every strike on a terror camp risks igniting World War III. One general said the plan was kaput. Then a senior civilian official said it wasn’t. A second general weighed in, saying he wasn’t sure yet. Thanks to an inside source, we have some insight into the apparent confusion. Who’s right? Well, possibly everybody. According to our source, the basic plan to hit ...

Patriot Missile Found in Tampa Junk Yard

Note DATELINE: 20July2007 "One day last week, puzzled workers at… a scrap metal yard in Tampa’s Ybor City, noticed an odd-looking object in a heap of junk. They thought it was a beat-up torpedo. Police were called. Tampa officers arrived and quickly called explosives experts at MacDill Air Force Base. This was no torpedo. It was a Patriot missile," the St. Petersburg Times reports. Phpcirdylam In what is undoubtedly one of the oddest local junk yard finds, MacDill’s ordnance disposal team confirmed the July 11 find was indeed a Patriot, minus "the part on top that goes boom," Lt. Prisoners Help Build Patriot Missiles

This spring, the United Arab Emirates is expected to close a deal for $7 billion dollars’ worth of American arms. Nearly half of the cash will be spent on Patriot missiles, which cost as much as $5.9 million apiece. But what makes those eye-popping sums even more shocking is that some of the workers manufacturing parts for those Patriot missiles are prisoners, earning as little as 23 cents an hour. (Credit Justin Rohrlich with the catch.) The work is done by Unicor, previously known as Federal Prison Industries. It’s a government-owned corporation, established during the Depression, that employs about 20,000 inmates in 70 prisons to make everything from clothing to office ...

Sen. Cowles (WI GOP): Republicans have to be "flexible" on collective bargaining negotiations

Republicans should be willing to meet Democrats halfway on aspects of collective bargaining that have little or no monetary impact, longtime Republican Sen. Rob Cowles said Monday evening. In a telephone conversation with the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Cowles, R-Allouez, said Republicans already got the lion’s share of what they were looking for from unions in pension and health care contributions, and a compromise with Democrats on the rest of Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill is expected soon. “The important part is the monetary concessions. That’s the part that helps balance the budget. The other things are less monetary in nature,” said Cowles, co-chair of ...

Drive to recall Wisconsin GOP senators gaining steam, Dems say

So how's the drive to recall Wisconsin GOP state senators going? If these new numbers the Wisconsin Democratic Party shares with me are accurate, it's already exceeding expectations in a big way. Graeme Zielinski, a spokesman for the party, tells me that activists working on the recall push already collected over the weekend 15 percent of the total necessary signatures needed to force recalls in all eight of the GOP districts Dems are targeting. He says that the party -- which is helping to coordinate and keeping track of outside efforts to gather signatures -- set itself a goal of 10,000 signatures for the weekend, and has already exceeded it by 35 percent. Zielinski also claims ...

In eighth grade, Milwaukee ranked 13th out of 17 big-city districts based on the percentage of students who scored at or above basic. Basic is defined as ...

The biggest myth about labor unions is that unions are for the workers

The biggest myth about labor unions is that unions are for the workers. Unions are for unions, just as corporations are for corporations and politicians are for politicians. Nothing shows the utter cynicism of the unions and the politicians who do their bidding like the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act" that the Obama administration tried to push through Congress. Employees' free choice as to whether or not to join a union is precisely what that legislation would destroy. Workers already have a free choice in secret-ballot elections conducted under existing laws. As more and more workers in the private sector have voted to reject having a union represent them, the ...

The killer, an accused cannibal who was a teenager when the crime was committed more than 30 years ago, will be free before the end of the year, according to police. "We do not know what his plans are or if he is [planning on coming back here], but it is definitely something we plan on discussing," a spokesman for the South Kingstown Police Department told AOL News today. While police have yet to formulate a plan for the impending release of convicted murderer Michael Woodmansee, the father of his victim, a 5-year-old ...

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2011 – A commission established to study diversity among military leaders is recommending that the Defense Department rescind its policy that prevents women from being assigned to ground combat units below the brigade level. In a report issued today, the Military Leadership Diversity Commission recommends that the department and the services eliminate combat exclusion policies for women, as well as other “barriers and inconsistencies, to create a level playing field for all qualified service members.” Retired Air Force Gen. Lester L. Lyles, who chaired the commission, said the recommendation –- one of 20 in the report and the only one specific to women –- is one ...

Republican Reps. A spokesman for Issa’s committee told The Daily Caller the committee “remains interested” and is “looking forward” to findings from an ongoing Government Accountability Office investigation, which is expected to come out within the next couple of months. What Turner and Burton are saying happened during the GM ...

American Tax Dollars for Al-Jazeera-inspired Terrorism

An analysis of the propaganda campaign to get Al-Jazeera carried by more cable and satellite systems reveals an interesting fact. The terrorist TV channel is already available through something called MHz Networks. And it turns out that the MHz Networks is supported by the American taxpayers at the federal and state levels. MHz Networks is a division of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting and receives over $2 million a year from federal and state governments. In this case, because Commonwealth is based in Virginia, the culprit is the state of Virginia. However, Governor Robert F. McDonnell has proposed eliminating state funding of public broadcasting by cutting $2 million in fiscal 2012 and ...

Report says too many whites, men leading military

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. military is too white and too male at the top and needs to change recruiting and promotion policies and lift its ban on women in combat, an independent report for Congress said Monday. Seventy-seven percent of senior officers in the active-duty military are white, while only 8 percent are black, 5 percent are Hispanic and 16 percent are women, the report by an independent panel said, quoting data from September 2008. One barrier that keeps women from the highest ranks is their inability to serve in combat units. Promotion and job opportunities have favored those with battlefield leadership credentials. The report ordered by Congress in 2009 calls for greater ...
