Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday took a swipe at billionaire businessman Donald Trump, demanding to see his "Republican registration." While speaking at a breakfast with New Hampshire Republicans one day after "The Donald" visited the Granite State, Paul riffed off the potential GOP presidential candidate's "birther" questions. Ive come to New Hampshire today because Im very concerned, said Paul, according to The New York Times. I want to see the original long-form certificate of Donald Trumps Republican registration. Paul's comments follow up on some GOP-aligned groups' effort to discredit Trump as a ...

What is it about twin girls born day after Obama? (cue theme from Dark Shadows) Post Date: 2011-04-28 11:20:11 by no gnu taxes

Today, Barack Obama blinked releasing birth records he has hired lawyers to prevent the public from seeing, even at the expense of allowing U.S. Army Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin to be court-martialed and sent to prison for having dared ask questions the White House until now has resolutely dismissed with ridicule and disdain. A key problem for Obama is that birth certificates issued to twin girls born one day later at Kapi'olani hospital, the Nordykes, are the Rosetta Stone of deciphering both Obama's previously released short-form Certification of Live Birth and the newly released purported copy of his long-form birth certificate. The problem since the short-form certificate ...

I'm not going to go into how I know this. Essentially, it's like this: If you don't donate or don't donate enough and your thread to comment ratio is too high, you will be deemed a troll and banned regardless of the subject matter of your posts. Basically, you are an ideal poster there if you are a whale of a donater, post mostly comments, and just an occasional thread that is news and not commentary.
Ralph Nader: Pressure Obama with primary Post Date: 2011-04-27 23:35:29 by A K A Stone

Ralph Nader is convinced that Barack Obama will win reelection in 2012, but that wont stop him from trying to organize a slate of Democrats in the coming months to challenge the president in party primaries next year. Nader told POLITICO on Wednesday that he is working on bringing together about half a dozen presidential candidates who could dramatically expand a robust discussion within the Democratic Party and among progressive voters across the country. Each would focus on a specific issue where the far left says Obama hasnt done enough, including the environment, labor and health care. Nader, who has run for president five times as an independent or third party ...
Robert Gibbs to Donald Trump: Where are the tax returns? [Full Thread] Post Date: 2011-04-27 23:20:35 by A K A Stone

Former White House press secretary and Obama confidante Robert Gibbs is throwing down the gauntlet on Donald Trump. "Donald Trump said hed release his tax returns as soon as the president released his birth certificate, so the ball is in his court now and I know everybody is anxious to see his tax returns over the last 10 years," Gibbs told POLITICO. Trump first floated the trade-off in an interview with ABC earlier this month. "Maybe Im going to do the tax returns when Obama does his birth certificate," said the real estate mogul, whose wealth has long been a matter of dispute. "I may tie my tax returns [to the birth certificate]. Id love to ...

Donald Trump is basically birther Orly Taitz with better hair. Or do I have that backwards? The idea that this "carnival barker," in President Obama's words, got the White House to bow to filthy birther rumors about his ineligibility to be president, and belatedly produce his long-form birth certificate, makes me deeply sad. But was it the right thing to do politically? We can't know that yet. Certainly I was encouraged by seeing an indignant Obama take the podium, note he was getting attention he likely wouldn't get for a foreign policy announcement, and tear into the media for letting Trump's birther sideshow drown out all other news. "Normally, I ...
Obamanomics “myths” and fairy tales Post Date: 2011-04-27 15:02:20 by calcon

Investors Business Daily hammers Barack Obamas budget approach in two articles today as based on myths and fairy tales. First, John Merline gets into the gritty details in rebutting Obamas notion that we can solve the monumental budgetary problems we face with slightly higher federal income tax rates on the rich. Merline offers a telling chart that shows the percentage of federal income tax revenue provided by the top 1%, and explains how little impact Obamas promise to roll back the Bush-era rates will have: But in making the case for tax hikes, Obama has made several claims that, while they may strike a chord with voters, perpetuate myths about taxes and the rich. ...
Eight horses burned to death in barn fire in apparent anti-gay hate crime attack in Ohio Post Date: 2011-04-27 14:42:07 by Skip Intro

Eight horses - one just a week old and another ready to give birth - died in a raging barn fire in Ohio that lawmen think was set because of hatred for gays. Brent Whitehouse of McConnelsville said an orange glow outside his home on Easter night drew him to the horror. "I ran out there, but the doors of my barn wouldn't open and suddenly, flames were shooting up through the roof. That barn was gone in five minutes," he told the Zanesville Times Recorder. The flames were so hot a tractor inside the barn melted. Still visible on the remains of the gutted barn's walls Tuesday were spray-painted epithets such as "f-gs are freaks" and "burn in hell," ...
Florida Woman Uses Reality TV Defense in Murder for Hire Trial Post Date: 2011-04-27 14:01:55 by calcon

Brand X Pictures/Thinkstock(MIAMI) -- The Florida woman on trial for allegedly hiring a hit man to kill her husband is using an unusual defense: it was a scripted ploy to snag a reality TV show. Dalia Dippolito, 30, is facing charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder. In 2009, she allegedly hired an undercover police officer posing as a hit man to kill her husband, Mike Dippolito. In opening statements Tuesday, Dalia Dippolito's defense team claimed that the hiring of a hit man to kill her husband was a big hoax and that Dalia Dippolito's husband, Mike, was in on the scheme. The defense argues that the couple was committing the hoax to get a reality show. Mike ...

But Wisch, the spokesman for the attorney general's office, said state law does not in fact permit the release of "vital records," including an original "record of live birth" even to the individual whose birth it records. "It's a Department of Health record and it can't be released to anybody," he said. Nor do state laws have any provision that authorizes such records to be photocopied, Wisch said. If Obama wanted to personally visit the state health department, he would be permitted to inspect his birth record, Wisch said. But if he or anybody else wanted a copy of their birth records, they would be told to fill out the appropriate state ...

State Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, has checked out the birth certificate President Barack Obama released this morning and he's not satisfied. GOP leaders like U.S. House Speaker John Boehner may believe the matter "has long been a settled issue," as he said today in a statement. But Berman, who has raised persistent questions about Obama's birthplace, said he has many more questions and that it will take "someone like a Donald Trump" to really determine whether the president has "pulled the greatest swindle, the greatest hoax, in the history of the United States." Berman, who has filed a "birther" bill this session that would force ...

EXCLUSIVE: He's baaack! Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in a rights package that CAA is shopping today that will revive The Terminator, one of Hollywood's most iconic scifi franchises. The agency is dropping the package on studios this afternoon. I'm told that already, Universal, Sony and Lionsgate, and CBS Films are looking hard at the package. There is no screenwriter attached at this point, and Robert Cort is producing. This is the first real activity on The Terminator project since February 2010, when the property emerged from a bankruptcy auction and into the possession of Pacificor. The Santa Barbara-based hedge fund posted a bid of $29.5 million, with the ...

Obama criticizes new Georgia immigration law Post Date: 2011-04-27 00:32:52 by A K A Stone

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama criticized on Tuesday a new immigration bill passed by Georgia's senate that would give police authority to question suspects about their immigration status. Obama also defended his administration's record on securing U.S. borders and reiterated his call for comprehensive immigration reform. The Georgia bill is similar to one passed by Arizona last year that sparked a national debate on state attempts to crack down on illegal immigration. Arizona's law criminalizes illegal immigration by defining it as trespass and allows local law enforcement agencies to question anyone they suspect lacks correct immigration papers. Asked about the Georgia ...

A state House lawmaker introduced legislation today that would require candidates for president to produce a certified copy of his or her birth certificate to be eligible to appear on the Michigan ballot. Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville, said the legislation was aimed at clarify(ing) a constitutional question that has arisen about a number of presidential candidates, and not about allegations surrounding the birthplace of President Barack Obama. I did not introduce this bill to continue the birther debate, referring to those who have questioned whether Obama was born in the U.S. and eligible to hold the office of president, Callton said in a statement. Ron Paul announces presidential run, says Obama can't win youth vote Post Date: 2011-04-27 00:13:50 by A K A Stone

Rep. Ron Paul, the Texas Republican known for his staunch libertarian views, announced today he's forming a presidential exploratory committee.
This marks Paul's third bid for the presidency. He first ran in 1988 and again in 2008, winning a small but enthusiastic group of supporters among the GOP electorate.
Part of Paul's fervent support in 2008 was grounded in college-aged voters, a constituency that also largely favored Barack Obama. In this campaign, the 75-year-old Paul said today, Mr. Obama won't be able to hang on to the youth vote.
"I think that Obama will not be able to hang on to that enthusiasm of the young people because of what's happened in the last couple years," ...
