Texas Bill Would Make Invasive Pat-Downs a Felony FORT WORTH, Texas -- A former Miss USA's claims of being groped during a pat-down at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport could be a felony under a bill gaining momentum in the Texas Legislature. The bill would make it illegal for a security officer to intentionally touch someone's private areas -- even atop clothing -- unless they have probable cause to believe the person is carrying something illegal. Bill sponsor State Rep. David Simpson says the searches are removing people's dignity. Last fall the Transportation Security Administration started a new pat-down procedure. Susie Castillo, crowned Miss USA in 2003, said ...

(NaturalNews.com) To most Americans it's unthinkable that the U.S. dollar could someday be relegated to second-class status as a currency, but what they may not realize is that the transition is already underway. Reports this week marked the dollar's continued slide - it reached a 16-month low against the euro and slid to a historic low against the Swiss franc on Tuesday - while at the same time predicting something we've been telling you for years now, namely that the dollar is on its way out as the world's reserve currency. Impossible, you say? Think again. Signs of the dollar's imminent collapse are everywhere. Look at the economic and investment juggernaut that is ...
For the Pauls, it's who will run, not whether Post Date: 2011-04-29 20:21:35 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON Many major Republican figures are still trying to decide whether to enter the 2012 presidential race. But in the Paul family, the question is not so much whether to run. Its more along the lines of: Who will run? For months, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and his father, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, have been engaged in an Alphonse-and-Gaston routine, each expressing interest in a bid for the White House. It is unprecedented in American political history a father and son publicly considering presidential bids at the same time. The younger Paul, 48, says he wont run against his father, 75. But if his father decides not to run, he will consider it. Earlier this ...

The fiscal 2012 budget resolution proposed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) drew the support of all 235 Republicans present and voting Friday, as well as the opposition from all 193 Democrats in attendance. That means 235 members of the House GOP are now on record in favor of slowing the growth of domestic discretionary spending and Medicaid, shrinking the deficit gradually through fiscal 2015, and sharply reducing federal spending as a percentage of the economy over the long term. They're also on record favoring an increase in the debt ceiling, which currently stands at $14.3 trillion. Pages 5 and 6 of the budget resolution declare that the "appropriate ...

Huckabee Out? Post Date: 2011-04-29 12:01:36 by We The People

It looks as if Mike Huckabee wont be making a presidential run in 2012 after all. An article at the Process Story blog says they have been told Huckabee is giving his former S.C. supporters the nod to seek work on other presidential campaigns. The word is that hes told South Carolina staffers that they have his blessing for them to peddle their wares elsewhere. Huckabee is a Fox News contributor with his own weekend show, which he would have to suspend if he entered the presidential race. Hes been polling very well in South Carolina. If hes releasing key staffers in that state, hes probably not far from formally declaring a non-candidacy. Update: ...

At a reception hosted by two Republican women's groups at the Treasure Island Casino, Trump acknowledged he is not the typical candidate for president, and may lose in 2012, but is still serious about a bid for the White House. A senior CBS news anchor today labelled Donald Trump's campaign to raise doubts about President Obama's school grades as an 'ugly strain of racism'. Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer made the comments in the wake of Mr Trump's calls yesterday for Mr Obama to release college transcripts 'proving' he had the grades to enter Columbia and Harvard. The attack came as new research suggested viewers for Celebrity Apprentice - some of the most liberal for any TV show - were deserting the program due to Mr Trump's outspoken rants against Mr Obama. The furore came soon after the President released his full birth certificate - finally putting the question of his ...

How Oil Profits Are Good for Americans Posted April 28th, 2011 at 12:00pm in Energy and Environment You could substitute a newspaper article from June 2008 with todays gas price stories, and no one would know the difference. The story is the same: politicians blaming speculators and big oil while ignoring supply and demand issues and the impact of a weak dollar on oil prices. Its been easy for politicians to point the finger of blame at oil companies since the Gulf spillalthough a large majority of Americans support offshore drilling. When politicians attack big oil, its important to remember who owns these companies and where that money goes. Mutual funds and ...
Brown Cancels California’s $356 Million ‘Cadillac’ Death Row Post Date: 2011-04-28 21:52:15 by Ferret Mike

April 28 (Bloomberg) -- California Governor Jerry Brown scuttled plans to build a $356 million new death row at San Quentin prison that some lawmakers derided as a Cadillac because of its cost. Brown said it would be unconscionable to go ahead with the complex north of San Francisco, planned since 2003, when the state is cutting jobs and services to bridge a deficit. California, which holds the largest number of death-row prisoners in the U.S., faces a resurgent budget deficit equal to nearly 20 percent of the general fund. Interest on prison construction bonds would have cost $28.5 million a year. At a time when children, the disabled and seniors face ...

Gov. Brown Now Wants California Tax Hike on November Ballot by Chuck DeVore 04/27/2011 California does everything big, especially recurrent, intractable budget crises. Californias latest fiscal calamity is an extension of its last brush with insolvency when the Dot.com bubble burst in 2001, leaving California with plunging revenues and soaring government employee pension obligations brought on by a raft of higher benefits for government union workers. The unwillingness of Californias Democrat-dominated political establishment to restructure government led to the historic 2003 recall of Gov. Gray Davis. Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected on the promise of blowing up the ...

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana is poised to become the first state to cut all government funding for Planned Parenthood. The move would be a significant victory for anti-abortion activists but could pose a political predicament for Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels as he considers running for president. The Indiana House voted 66-32 Wednesday to cut off the $3 million in federal money the state distributes to the organization for family planning and health programs. The Senate approved the measure earlier this month. Indiana risks losing $4 million in federal family planning grants if Daniels signs the bill. A veto could antagonize ardent conservatives wary of Daniels' calls for a truce on ...

The Trouble with Independents By Paul Kengor The latest edition of The New Republic has an interesting piece, titled, "The Trouble with Independents." T he subheading is even more on target: "What if these voters are just a clueless horde?" The article is written by the thoughtful Georgetown scholar (and man of the left) Michael Kazin, who finds himself in company with a lot of conservatives, from me to Rush Limbaugh. Kazin writes: No group in American politics gets more respect than independent voters. Pundits and reporters probe what these allegedly moderate citizens think about this issue and that candidate, major party strategists seek the golden mean of messaging ...

Not So Fast, Mr. Obama: Trust But Verify By Carol A. Taber Yesterday, President Obama released a long form birth certificate. In doing so, he lectured Americans about what was truly important in America. "We do not have time for this kind of silliness," he intoned. "We've got better stuff to do. I've got better stuff to do. We've got big problems to solve, and I'm confident we can solve them, but we're going to have to focus on them, not on this." He then promptly boarded Air Force One to solve one of those vital problems -- by flying to Chicago for another appearance on Oprah's show. Let's focus now on one very simple question: why did he ...

We have received several e-mails today calling into question the validity of the PDF that the White House released, namely that there are embedded layers in the document. There are now several other people on the case. We looked into it and dismissed it. The PDF is composed of multiple images. Thats correct. Using a photo editor or PDF viewer of your choice, you can extract this image data, view it, hide it, etc. But these layers, as theyre being called, arent layers in the traditional photo-editing sense of the word. They are, quite literally, pieces of image data that have been positioned in a PDF container. They appear as text but also contain glyphs, dots, lines, ...
