Mitt Romney fights back against WSJ Post Date: 2011-05-15 17:17:59 by go65

Mitt Romney is pushing back against the scathing Wall Street Journal editorial that greeted his Thursday health care speech, saying the paper unfairly blamed the Massachusetts reform law for the state's continuing problems. But the Journal editorial writers remain unmoved by Romney's speech, writing Friday that the reform he is now proposing is too far away from what he did in Massachusetts, which is too close to federal health reform. "These are unbridgeable policy and philosophical differences, though Mr. Romney is nonetheless trying to leap over them like Evel Knievel heading for the Snake River Canyon," it reads Click for Full Text!
Gingrich says no to Medicare vouchers Post Date: 2011-05-15 17:16:31 by go65

Newt Gingrich on Sunday rejected a Republican proposal to turn Medicare into a voucher program that helps senior citizens purchase private health insurance. "I don't think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering," Gingrich said on NBC's "Meet The Press." The former House speaker and candidate for the GOP presidential nomination called it "radical change" and "too big a jump." Instead, he pushed for creating a system that allows people to pick other options than government-run coverage, so that they "voluntarily migrate to better outcomes, better solutions, better options." Nursing Home Industry Unleashes Scathing Advert Decrying Governor Kasich's Proposed Cuts [Full Thread] Post Date: 2011-05-15 12:25:50 by Ferret Mike

Remember when the Republicans were talking about "death panels" during the national health care debate last year? That seems to be the message of what the Ohio Health Care Association is depicting in their new television advertisements that have been popping up around the dial in response to gutting skilled nursing care, aka nursing homes, by $470 Million dollars. The scary thing about it though, is if the cuts do come, not only jobs will be lost but likely lives as well as senior citizens will need to find new options for long-term health care. With the loss in funding, facilities such as Metro Health Center for Skilled Nursing Facility here in Cleveland would either close or ...

Bush Did it Better Than Obama Post Date: 2011-05-14 12:59:58 by no gnu taxes

While some of you may think I hate George W. Bush and never see anything positive about him, let me correct your error. My basic beef with Bush is that he spent money like a Democrat, he attacked Iraq without justification and, in the process, diverted our nations attention from getting Bin Laden, and he countenanced the release of Valerie Plames identity and approved the use of torture. I think George W. Bush tarnished his family and our nation by this conduct and he will be judged harshly by history. However, lets give Bush credit for not milking the capture of Saddam Hussein the way that Barack Obama is milking the killing of Bin Laden. The irony is huge and delicious. ...
The Commission's management -- particularly its chairman, Philip Angelides, a former Democratic treasurer of California and unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate -- would not allow the staff to pursue any theories about the causes of the financial cri Post Date: 2011-05-14 12:07:53 by jwpegler

The announcement by Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl that he won't seek a fifth term has set the Democrats further back in their hopes of keeping the Senate during next year's elections. Kohl is the fifth Democrat to retire after next year, or sixth if you count independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, who caucuses with the Democrats. With Democrats defending 23 seats, and a short list of Democratic incumbents running in conservative and swing states, Republicans are seeing more and more opportunities to pick up some seats. Here are the nine most vulnerable Democratic seats, in alphabetical order. Missouri Freshmen Sen. Claire McCaskill's re-election chances took a hit after she ...
Iowa conservative group hosting potential GOP candidates accepted $3 million in federal grants Post Date: 2011-05-14 11:10:34 by Ferret Mike

IOWA CITY, Iowa A conservative group that has brought a string of potential presidential candidates to Iowa to lecture about the need to reduce government spending owes some of its past success to generous federal grants, which it has since rejected amid charges of hypocrisy. The Family Leader has organized multicity forums for Reps. Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Sen. Rick Santorum. Each has called for reining in federal spending and talked about family values. The same group received more than half of its funding from federal grants over a five-year period when it operated under a different structure as The Iowa Family Policy Center. ...
Obama’s Favorite Union Goes Full Communist Post Date: 2011-05-14 10:50:50 by no gnu taxes

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart. Southern California citizen journalist and photographer Ringo was on hand to record the days events, and posted a full-length photo essay on his site Ringos Pictures. To bring ...

(CNN)-In his first informal comments following the death of Osama bin Laden, President George W. Bush said he was not overjoyed at the news of the bin Laden's death but it was a good call to mount the Navy SEAL operation into Pakistan and go after the terrorist leader. According to ABC News, Bush told a crowd of 1,800 hedge fund managers in Las Vegas that the mission he initiated to track down bin Laden almost ten years ago following 9/11 was not "out of hatred but to exact judgment." Still, "The guy is dead. That is good," Bush said. "Osama's death is a great victory in the war on terror." The former commander-in-chief who ...

There is nothing sinister about the gray hooded sweatshirt anymore, no mystery behind the aviator sunglasses. Once, they were among the hallmarks of Ted Kaczynski, the anarchist Unabomber who killed three people and injured almost two dozen more during a nearly 20-year reign of terror. Now, his old clothes adorn a mannequin in a sterile government office in an online photo tagged Unabomb0001. This is the first of 51 lots of Kaczynskis personal belongings that the government will auction online next week in what amounts to Uncle Sams version of eBay. The bidding begins Wednesday, but the Justice Department has posted pictures of the goods to its Flickr stream to drum up ...

Will Donald Trump run for President? Post Date: 2011-05-13 20:00:56 by A K A Stone

PALM BEACH, Fla. - Time may be running out for Donald Trump to decide whether he'll run for president. Last week former Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich and Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul from Texas announced they're in the race, and NBC reportedly wants an answer from Trump on whether he'll be back next year for "The Apprentice." Trump got a little taste of hardball politics that could come if he runs for the White House. President Barack Obama hit him with some political jabs at Trumps push to get the president to release his birth certificate. He can get back to focusing on the issues that matter like did we fake the ...

Hackers who breach and cause substantial harm to critical infrastructure systems would face a mandatory minimum three-year prison sentence if the White House gets its way. The Obama administration is requesting the mandatory prison sentence in a legislative proposal it submitted to Congress on Thursday, which outlines a long but vague list of cybersecurity provisions the White House would like included in upcoming bills. The list includes a number of changes to laws governing hacking (.pdf), as well as laws authorizing the federal government to assist private companies in securing their computer networks when asked to mitigate threats. The administration also wants to create a national ...

Texas county official says "stupid" feds sparked fire SAN ANTONIO | Fri May 13, 2011 6:22pm EDT (Reuters) - The fight between Texas and Washington, D.C., over wildfires in the Lone Star State just got nastier. A county official in the Texas Panhandle is now blaming a federal agency for starting one of the fires through carelessness. Tom Edwards, the county attorney in rural Motley County east of Lubbock, said on Friday that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives was responsible on Tuesday for sparking a fire that consumed 150 acres. "You can quote me on it: That bunch has a real corner on stupid," Edwards told Reuters. Tom Crowley, a ...

Medicare Rationing Leads to Private Insurance Rationing by Capitol Confidential Conservatives looking to balance the federal budget know the importance of reining in the cost of Medicare. But how you reduce the cost of the program is almost as important as whether you reduce the cost. The implications are enormous and here is why. Burke Balch, the Director of the Powell Center for Medical Ethics, has done extensive research into the intricate connection of policy provisions contained in the ObamaCare legislation that all lead America down the road to rationing. Balch sees three avenues to rationing, with the primary danger coming from the creation of the new Independent Payment Advisory ...

Whenever you hear the word alien in stalker cases, a shrink is not far behind.
A man accused of stalking Donald Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka, was remanded by a New York judge to a psychiatric facility for further evaluation after confessing that E.T.'s may have been to blame for his continued harassment of the Apprentice star.
So where will he be phoning home from?
A Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday determined that 28-year-old Justin Massler was incapable of understanding that he violated an order of protection prohibiting him from contacting Trump or members of her family. The decision was based on preliminary findings of two court-appointed psychiatrists.
As a result, per ...
Jindal: Decision on opening spillway could come Saturday Post Date: 2011-05-13 15:33:56 by go65

(CNN) -- As the Mississippi River slowly swelled downstream Friday, residents were making preparations for the expected flooding to come, even as federal authorities pondered whether to use a key mechanism to redirect much of the water. It is "extremely likely" that the Morganza Spillway will be opened by Saturday night or Sunday morning at the latest, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Friday. And although he emphsized that no decision had been made, he warned residents in the areas around the spillway to expect flooding and plan accordingly. Opening the spillway could lower anticipated cresting levels along the lower Mississippi River and divert water away from Baton Rouge and ...
Daniels closer to deciding on presidential bid [Full Thread] Post Date: 2011-05-13 13:40:08 by go65

INDIANAPOLIS -- With 1,100 people chanting "Run Mitch, Run," Gov. Mitch Daniels took the stage here Thursday night and did something he's never done before: He introduced his wife Cheri, and then he turned the microphone over to her to address the sold-out crowd. It was Cheri Daniels' first-ever speech at a big political event in all the years she has been Indiana's First Lady. And with speculation over whether her husband will enter the presidential race now at a fever-pitch, her mere presence at the podium for the annual state GOP dinner had everyone searching for clues and hidden meanings. The question was heard over and over: Did her willingness to step into the ...
Ron Paul launches 2012 presidential run in "spirit of liberty" Post Date: 2011-05-13 13:00:39 by We The People

Ron Paul, the 75-year-old Texas congressman whose libertarian-infused beliefs have put him at odds with Republican orthodoxy, launched his third presidential campaign in New Hampshire Friday, telling an Exeter town hall audience that "the people have awoken." "The revolution is spreading, and the momentum is building," he said. "Our time has come." Pointing to the role of technology in spreading his beliefs, Paul suggested that an "intellectual revolution" is underway and has helped people understand that "government isn't the solution, government really has created the problem." Paul said that the federal government should not be an ...
TORTURED REASONING Post Date: 2011-05-13 12:40:39 by no gnu taxes

Just when it looks like John McCain has reformed from his RINO ways, the old John McCain resurfaces. His tortured reasoning is very damaging for several reasons:
1. There was no reason for him to opine on the subject of water boarding.
2. He is clearly wrong.
3. He gives cover to a weak administration with regard to critical national security issues.
Water boarding is not torture. One of the statements I heard on Fox News the other night was some loudmouthed liberal saying that no one who has ever been water boarded has called it anything but torture. Excuse me, but I was personally water boarded as part of my SERES (Survival Escape Resistance Evasion) training in 1968. Unlike ...

The vast majority of Americans agree that CIA enhanced interrogation techniques led to the killing of Osama bin Laden. But the question remains: Why is Obama's Attorney General, buddy, and chief "get back at The Man" thug Eric Holder still pursing prosecution against those who made this happen? Among Obama's many hypocrisies and blatant political moves, this ranks as the most stubborn. What has happened in the wake of killing bin Laden, other than his seven wives updating their Facebook status to "single"? There has been nothing about dropping the prosecution of the CIA agents who were doing their jobs. Obama takes his normal time for an "I, me, ...
Horrible RINO John McCain Defends Obama, Smears Former CIA Director Mukasey, Misleads on Panetta’s Comments & Makes America Less Safe Post Date: 2011-05-13 12:33:22 by no gnu taxes

It is now well documented that enhanced interrogation techniques provided the information that led the US to Osama Bin Laden. But, many diehard liberals insist that not only are enhanced interrogation methods torture, but they don’t work.
Today John McCain smeared former CIA Director Mukasey and played word games Leon Panetta on enhanced interrogation techniques to defend his flawed position. Just last week CIA Director Panetta confirmed that waterboarding gleaned information that led us to Bin Laden.
Awful RINO John McCain put America at a greater risk for another massive terrorist attack by misrepresenting Panetta’s previous statements on waterboarding and by misrepresenting the ...

Those who are old enough to remember the Reagan years in the 1980s can recall the name given to the Reagan foreign policy. In the heat of the cold war, President Reagan, unaware that the microphone in front of him was hot, leaned into it and said jokingly; My fellow Americans, I have just signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes. This was the beginning of what Reagans opponents called cowboy diplomacy. After Reagan left office, the phrase was tucked away and saved until a later day when a Republican President decided to try and protect America using force. Thus, during the Bush years, the phrase found its way back ...
