CA teacher fights back against Union Support of cop-killer Mumia Post Date: 2011-05-24 13:18:49 by Happy Quanzaa

A few weeks ago I brought you the story of the California Federation of Teachers, passing a resolution reaffirming support for convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. He was convicted of killing, execution-style, Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. Despite numerous appeals and efforts by far leftists to spring him from prison, hes serving a life sentence in an open-and-shut case. The Fraternal Order of Police issued a strongly-worded letter to American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, parent union to the CFT. The unions absurdly radical action is now producing its consequences. I received an email from a CFT and AFT member ...

. The GOP crowd seems to be getting bigger and bigger and it just added ::pause:: a black guy. Ooooo, President Obama should really be scared now. The Republicans have their very own black guy. According to Politico, Herman Cain, the Atlanta businessman and one-time pizza king, drew a crowd that his campaign says hit 15,000 people as he formally announced his presidential candidacy Saturday with a fiery critique of Barack Obama and a promise to alter the course of the election by appealing to grassroots voters in early states and beyond According to ...
Post-Post Birtherism is a Drag Post Date: 2011-05-24 10:23:44 by Skip Intro

I keep saying it, and it keeps being true: Few Internet products are as entertaining as WorldNetDaily articles. They marry sensational concepts with prose and facts that are mostly recycled from previous, sensational articles. Watching the site adapt to the end of the "birther" moment has been amusing, because almost all of the reporting from 2008 onward is being repurposed in the service of new stories. To wit: "Now Popular Republicans 'Not Natural-Born Citizens'" by Joe Kovacs. The hook is Bobby Jindal's newly released birth certificate; the argument is that there's "strong evidence" that the Founders didn't want the children of ...
My wife is now a US citizen (and possibly a total dumbass) Post Date: 2011-05-24 09:38:03 by no gnu taxes

My wife was sworn in as a US citizen on Friday. At the ceremony, they stressed the right to vote, among other things. I asked her if she was now going to vote, and she said she planned to. When I asked her if she knew who she wanted to vote for, she said "I think Day-MOH-crah, that's the best right." (I don't discuss politics with her.) Oh, she also felt free to lecture me that I don't have the right to complain unless I started voting more often than I do. I told her she's never heard me complain. She said she sees on the computer where I talk bad about the Kenyan WH usurper, and I told her she's never seen my name on there. She said that's because I use ...
'Minority Report' Long Range Facial Recognition Systems Are Coming Post Date: 2011-05-23 22:55:52 by A K A Stone

Ever heard of a company called Digital Signal Corporation? Neither had I. Well, remember the movie Minority Report, how cameras everywhere would scan Tom Cruise, instantly recognizing him to either welcome him into the shopping mall or send the cops after him? The same sort of facial recognition technology is exactly what Digital Signal Corporation is intoexcept these guys are for real. Marketwire recently reported that DSC received $15 million to develop three dimensional long-range biometric facial recognition technology. Hmm, I wonder what exactly DSCs technology will be used for? Makes me think of the cameras being mounted on more and more police cars that are ...

A Phoenix woman on Monday gave birth to a baby boy she carried just outside her womb. Doctors at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix delivered the child through surgery Monday morning. Both the baby and the mother, Nicolette Soto, 27, were doing fine, said Rainey Daye Holloway, a hospital spokesperson. Doctors said the pregnancy is rare. They were still determining where the egg first implanted itself and where it grew outside the uterus, Holloway said. Surgeons believe Soto had a corneal pregnancy, where the egg grew just outside the uterus. The area is surrounded by walls that are not supposed to stretch enough to accommodate a baby, said Rodney Edwards, one of Soto's ...
Tax cheats among recipients of stimulus money Post Date: 2011-05-23 22:42:25 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON (AP) Thousands of companies that cashed in on President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package owed the government millions in unpaid taxes, congressional investigators have found. The Government Accountability Office, in a report being released Tuesday, said at least 3,700 government contractors and nonprofit organizations that received more than $24 billion from the stimulus effort owed $757 million in back taxes as of Sept. 30, 2009, the end of the budget year. The report said the tax delinquents accounted for nearly 6 percent of the 63,000 contractors and grantees examined, and it cautioned that the real number might be higher because the known tax debt does ...

ALAMEDA, Calif. California preacher Howard Camping says his prophecy that the world would end was off by five months because Judgment Day actually will come on Oct. 21. The independent Christian radio host said Monday the apocalypse will come five months after May 21, the original date he predicted. Camping, 89-year-old retired civil engineer, says he felt so terrible when his doomsday prediction did not come true on Saturday that he left home and took refuge in a motel with his wife. Rather than give his normal daily broadcast, Camping made a special statement before the press at the Oakland headquarters of the media empire that has broadcast his message. His earlier apocalyptic ...

AUSTIN, Tex (Reuters) Texas lawmakers are set to slash funding for the agency responsible for fighting wildfires in the midst of a historic wildfire season in which some 2.5 million acres have burned. The Texas Forest Service faces almost $34 million in budget cuts over the next two years, roughly a third of the agency's total budget. The cuts are in both the House and Senate versions of the proposed state budget. The Forest Service has about 200 firefighters and offers assistance grants to volunteer fire departments. Bibi owned Obama Post Date: 2011-05-23 13:08:32 by no gnu taxes

Say what you will about Friday's joint press availability with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Hussein Obama, this much is clear: Bibi owned Obama. Rush Limbaugh wishes Bibi could run for President of the United States, and urges potential Republican candidates to watch and listen. Benjamin Netanyahu: "We cannot negotiate with a Palestinian government backed by Hamas. Hamas just attacked you, Mr. President, for getting rid of Bin Laden." Netanyahu is saying this to our young man-child president. We can't go back to the '67 borders. So you strip everything else away here, folks, and it's obvious to me who's coming off as the more serious man in that ...

"Everybody's going to know people who are dead," said CNN iReporter Zach Tusinger, who said his aunt and uncle died in the tornado. Looks like Andrea needs a whambulance! President Obamas recent speech on the Middle East was highlighted by his call for Israel to return to its pre-1967 borders before the Six-Day War in which Israel occupied land in Jordan, Syria, and Egypt. Obama believes that any meaningful negotiation for peace requires an acknowledgment of those old borders, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes those borders are indefensible and many Republicans dont think Israel should have to give up any more than it already has. NBCs Andrea Mitchell weighed in on the debate and suggested that of all people it was Netanyahu not showing Obama respect. Mitchell explain ...
FLASHBACK: In 2008, Herman Cain praised TARP, chided "free market" purists Post Date: 2011-05-23 09:34:07 by go65

Coming off a debate performance that received rave reviews from Frank Luntz's panel, former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain now finds himself in the cross hairs. And Slate's Dave Weigel was fed some damaging oppo -- an October 2008 column in which Cain gave his full-throated support for the Wall Street bailout, the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). In the column, Cain wrote: Wake up people! Owning a part of the major banks in America is not a bad thing. We could make a profit while solving a problem. But the mainstream media and the free market purists want you to believe that this is the end of capitalism as we know it. It is not for several reasons that they have ...
Herman Cain: My plan to not raise the debt ceiling won’t work Post Date: 2011-05-23 09:31:17 by go65

Herman Cain has been adamant in the past that Congress shouldnt make a deal to raise the debt limit, but today on Fox News Sunday he admitted that his plan to not raise the debt ceiling wont work now because Congress has allowed the situation to become a disaster. I have to wonder why he would give that plan as an answer in the first place. If he believes that the debt limit ideally shouldnt be raised, then OK. But idealism and practicality must meet somewhere and up to this point I havent heard Cain suggesting they should make a deal for any reason whatsoever. In fact just the opposite. He said just the other day that I wouldnt raise it. I would force the ...

Amtrak Seeks Investors for High-Speed Plan Post Date: 2011-05-23 02:03:04 by socalv8

Amtrak is asking investors to submit proposals by June 10 to help finance its plan for 220-mile-per- hour train service in the Northeast corridor, Al Engel, vice president of high-speed rail, said. We want to engage the private sector as much as we can, Engel said at a press briefing today at the U.S. passenger rail services Washington headquarters. Amtraks $117 billion plan calls for the taxpayer-supported railroad to develop and operate the high-speed service. It would be completed by 2040 and serve the corridor between Boston and Washington. At least half the money would need to come from government sources, Engel said. Twenty-six entities have ...

AMHERST, N.Y. A congressional race that may test voter support for a controversial Republican plan to overhaul Medicare remains tight before Tuesdays special election, with a new poll suggesting that the Democrat now has a slight edge. The special election to fill a House seat in upstate New York was supposed to be an easy victory for Republican Jane Corwin, left. But support for Democrat Kathy Hochul, right, is growing. Democrat Kathy Hochul has been campaigning in the western New York district against the House GOP plan to remake Medicare. She had support from 42% of likely voters in a survey released Saturday, compared to 38% for Republican Jane Corwin. Republicans have ...

Top Ten Reasons to Support Herman Cain for President By C. Edmund Wright Even those conservatives who will not vote for Herman Cain to win the Republican nomination should hope that he does run -- and that his candidacy lasts a long time during the nomination process, perhaps even succeeding. Not the least of reasons is that a Cain candidacy would be a hoot. And I do not mean that in a derisive or condescending way at all. I mean that it would be the kind of doggone honest and refreshing campaign the country needs. It would be the opposite of the stale McCain run. Cain does not speak Washington drivel, and he's not afraid to take a strong position. Dare I say it? He'll call a ...

In light of recent findings that al Qaeda was mulling targeting railroad lines to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, a senator from New York is calling for tighter rail security. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer proposed an increase in rail security and an Amtrak version of the Secure Flight "no-fly" list. The proposal stems from material taken from Osama bin Laden's Pakistani compound showing al Qaeda was in the early stages of planning an attack to derail trains on September 11 of this year Click for Full Text!
