MSNBC: Sarah Palin not invited to Rolling Thunder (editors note Rolling thunder website says differently)

WASHINGTON — One day after Sarah Palin announced her bus tour, a group sponsoring a Memorial Day weekend event she plans to attend said they never invited her. "She wasn't invited. We heard yesterday she came out with a press release she was coming to Rolling Thunder," Ted Shpak, national legislative director of Rolling Thunder, told "Andrea Mitchell Reports." Shpak is one of three members of Rolling Thunder's current leadership who says he had no idea Palin was coming until it was posted on her website. On Thursday, the former governor of Alaska and potential GOP presidential candidate announced her bus tour on her political action committee's website, Sarahpac.com. The tour is to ...

GOP presidential hopefuls shift on global warming

WASHINGTON (AP) -- One thing that Tim Pawlenty, Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney have in common: These GOP presidential contenders all are running away from their past positions on global warming, driven by their party's loud doubters who question the science and disdain government solutions. All four have stepped back from previous stances on the issue, either apologizing outright or softening what they said earlier. And those who haven't fully recanted are under pressure to do so. The latest sign of that pressure came Thursday when New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he was pulling his state out of a regional agreement to reduce greenhouse gases, saying it won't ...

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani speaks during a demonstration against Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's appearance at the United Nations in New York September 24, 2009. Credit: Reuters/Patrick Andrade (Reuters) - Rudy Giuliani came out on top of a new survey of the 2012 Republican presidential primary field, even though the former New York Mayor has not so far jumped into the race. Many Republican voters quizzed in the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released on Friday said they were not very satisfied with the current crop of candidates who will battle for the right to take on President Barack Obama in the November 2012 election. Giuliani, with 16 percent support, ...

Wisconsin man charged with plan to attack abortion clinic

(Reuters) - A Wisconsin man who allegedly planned to shoot a doctor at a Madison abortion clinic was charged on Friday under a federal law that allows freedom of access to the clinics, prosecutors said. Ralph Lang, 63, of Marshfield, was staying at a Motel 6 when his .38-caliber handgun discharged into an unoccupied room across the hall, according to the federal criminal complaint. Madison police were called after Lang told a motel clerk that the gun went off, and he was worried that the bullet might have hit someone. Lang, who was arrested for reckless endangerment, told police that he had a gun "to lay out abortionists because they are killing babies," the complaint said Lang ...

Gov. Rick Scott Uses Sheriffs To Eject ‘Liberal-Looking’ People From Budget Signing Event In Town Square
Post Date: 2011-05-28 10:02:22 by Ferret Mike

Anxious over their increasing unpopularity, Republicans lawmakers across the country are banning media from chronicling the blowback at public events. Florida’s now deeply disliked Gov. Rick Scott (R) adopted a similar tactic yesterday at a “campaign-style” budget signing ceremony at a town square in The Villages retirement community in Central Florida. Before putting his pen to the $69.7 billion state budget, Scott took an ax to $615 million of what he called “shortsighted, frivolous, wasteful spending.” Scott conveniently failed, however, to mention exactly what some of those “frivolous” programs were, including ones that provide help for the most ...

Texas Leads the Way with ‘Loser Pays’ Reform; Blow to Trial Lobby

Texas Leads the Way with ‘Loser Pays’ Reform; Blow to Trial Lobby by Capitol Confidential Texas took yet another step this week that is certain to tighten its grip on the designation as the nation’s leading state for business. Governors in other states looking to improve their jobs situation should give serious consideration to mirroring the Lone Star State’s aggressive pro-jobs, pro-growth agenda. On Tuesday the Texas Senate, under the leadership of Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and despite an aggressive lobbying effort by the Trial Lobby, voted unanimously in favor of “loser pays” tort reform legislation. On Wednesday, the House, which had passed a similar ...

A welcome surprise. “I think that’s wonderful,” said Gerri Tramel, president of one of Rolling Thunder’s Tennessee chapters. “Anybody that’s involved -- Republican, Democrat, independent, whatever -- if you’re involved with our veterans, I think that’s wonderful. Rolling Thunder spokesman slams Palin bus tour as a ‘big distraction’

Sarah Palin is kicking off her One Nation bus tour this weekend at the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C. Rolling Thunder spokesman Ted Shpak said Friday that the former Republican vice presidential candidate was a “big distraction” from their mission of trying to bring awareness to prisoner of war/missing in action issues. “She wasn’t invited,” he told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “We don’t endorse nobody. We have our program after our run down at the Lincoln Memorial and she’s not invited to speak. We’re not endorsing her.” “I know it’s an open event,” Mitchell noted. “She can get on the back of a ...

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the longest serving chief executive in the state's history and a politician who has never lost an election, said Friday he will consider seeking the Republican nomination for president. The outspoken conservative, who for months said he wasn't interesting in running for the White House, said he will consider entering the race after the Texas Legislature adjourns Monday. What do you do when you offer a toast to the Queen of England in front of a hundred people and everyone ignores you? Like our Buffoon in Chief, you realize you have made an ass of yourself, put your glass down and wait until their national anthem is finished. Obama doesn’t respect national traditions; especially, those of the US and England, but in case any of his handlers read these lines, instead of letting him make a fool of himself, remind him that no one reads a note card to say a toast and no one talks when the British National Anthem is being played. It is a little late now, the whole world considers him a classless slob, but it would be nice if he would refrain from ...

Fifth Graders Challenge NOAA’s Hurricane Prediction with One of Their Own Washington, D.C. – The same organization that challenged NOAA to bragging rights for the best hurricane forecast last year using a trained chimp armed only with a pair of dice and a craps table is challenging the agency again: This time by putting two fifth graders up against the multi-billion-dollar federal agency. “NOAA may have beaten our trained chimp, Dr. Hansimian, last year,” said David Ridenour, vice president of the National Center for Public Policy Research. “But he was really only our second banana. Let’s see how NOAA can do against opponents with opposable thumbs.” ...

Meadia presents one of the most harsh slap downs of Barack Obama's middle east peace position that I have seen in a while. Whose word no man relies on. Who never said a foolish thing Or ever did a wise one. What a perfect description of Barack Obama. Maybe you’ve already seen this already but it is worth repeating. The difference between real effective leadership and an egomaniac. First, here is President George W. Bush announcing the capture of Saddam Hussein in 2003. ”The success of yesterday’s mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq . The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator’s footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope ...

DES MOINES — Though she couldn’t be there in person, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) made good on her commitment to speak to Polk County Republicans and members of the media Thursday night through a live-streamed video. Bachmann postponed her trip to Iowa Thursday, opting to stay in Washington to vote on the renewal of the Patriot Act bill, which would permit domestic intelligence access to business records and conduct roving wire taps to pursue terrorists. Some had hoped Bachmann would use the Thursday dinner to formally announce her candidacy for president, and certainly rumors swirled that Iowa would be the stage for it. However, the Congresswoman said Thursday night she ...

n an emotional assault on the Republicans, new Democratic Party Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz today called the GOP agenda "anti-women" and "a war on women" that will backfire on Republicans in the 2012 election and provide a cushion for President Obama's re-election bid. "It's just so hard for me to grasp how they could be so anti-women as they are," she said at a breakfast roundtable with reporters. "The pushback and the guttural reaction from women against the Republican's agenda out of the gate, the war on women that the Republicans have been waging since they took over the House, I think is going to not only restore but possibly ...

Congress would take away Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor train service and invite investors to bid for the right to develop high-speed rail under a plan outlined yesterday by a House Republican. Tweet Be the first to Tweet this!.ShareThis . The Boston-Washington corridor is the most viable region for true high-speed trains averaging 110 miles or more per hour, said House Transportation and Infrastructure chairman John Mica. But Amtrak has failed to provide fast service, despite tens of billions of dollars in federal aid, he said. Amtrak’s Acela trains reach 150 miles per hour in places, but trip times average only 83 miles per hour between Washington and New York and 72 miles per ...

Senate votes to renew anti-terrorism provisions

(Reuters) - The Senate passed a bill on Thursday to renew three expiring provisions of the anti-terrorism Patriot Act, rejecting demands for additional safeguards of civil liberties. The vote was 72-23. With the provisions set to expire at midnight on Thursday, the House of Representatives was expected to give swift final congressional approval to the Senate-passed bill. Democrats and some Republicans favored more protections for law-abiding citizens. But congressional leaders, racing the clock and possibly short on votes, agreed to a four-year, unaltered extension of the provisions to track suspected terrorists. President Barack Obama is traveling in Europe. White House spokesman Nick ...

Unanimous rejection By POLITICO STAFF | 05/26/11 5:22 AM Updated: 05/26/11 12:13 PM Close The budget proposal released by the White House back in February didn’t win a single vote in the Senate on Wednesday— the final tally was 0-97. Senate Republicans pushed for the vote as a counterpoint to the defeat of Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan. POLITICO’s David Rogers reports: “The vote on the president’s plan turned into a rout, with neither Republicans nor Democrats voting in favor of taking it up. At one level, the 97-0 vote showed how out-of-date the February requests can seem after so much has changed in the spending debate already this year. But for Democrats, ...

EPA Administrator confirms no water contamination from fracking Thomas Lifson It is close to an article of faith on the left that any hydrocarbon-based source of energy must cause severe pollution problems. The extraordinary benefits to America from cheap natural gas released by the fracking technique have been fought with ginned-up propaganda about purported water pollution. But yesterday, under oath, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson admitted that there have been no (as in zero) instances of ground water contamination from fracking, despite the propaganda that has convinced many progressives that fracking is a devil's bargain. Watch the video in which Jackson states: "I'm ...

On May 13, 1985, in the twilight of the Cold War, residents of Philadelphia were ruthlessly bombed from the sky. The enemy government was conducting a political mission, but innocent inhabitants of that distinctly American city were caught up in the attack. After ten thousand rounds were fired at civilians over a period of two hours, a helicopter swooped in and dropped C-4 and Tovex explosives, destroying 65 houses. Five children were slaughtered in the strike. The perpetrator was not the Soviet Union, or else the attack might have escalated into international conflict. It certainly would have made it into textbook timelines and become part of the nation’s consciousness. No, those ...

WASHINGTON —The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld an Arizona law that revokes the business licenses of companies hiring illegal immigrants, in a closely watched case testing state efforts to stop people from crossing the border. By a 5-3 vote, the court rejected arguments from a coalition of business and civil rights groups, including the Chamber of Commerce and ACLU, that the Arizona law conflicts with overriding federal immigration policy and could lead to race discrimination. Arizona has taken the lead among the states to crackdown on illegal immigration. A separate law in that border state requires police to investigate the status of anyone an arresting officer suspects may be ...

Imagine if Bush, instead of Obama, had just committed the diplomatic blunder of toasting the Queen during the playing of God Save the Queen, when you’re not supposed to drink?
