Accusation that Voter ID Is Racist Demeans Blacks by Dennis Prager, 06/07/2011 While dining out last week, I periodically looked up at one of the television monitors to see the score of the first game of the NBA finals. As there was no sound on to interrupt diners' conversations, the monitor was in caption mode: One could read rather than hear the words spoken. At the conclusion of the game, an announcer was interviewing a member of the victorious Miami Heat players. I saw from the captions the player saying the words "they isn't." Closed captions display the words spoken. They don't correct for poor grammar. All I could think was: How can a grown man in America ...

Attack Ad Goes Gangsta in California By Robert Stacy McCain on 6.16.11 @ 6:09AM Guy Benson called it "appalling... misogynistic
overtly racist, sexist, and generally despicable... totally beyond the pale." What inspired Benson to unload every pejorative in his vocabulary was an online video attack ad against Los Angeles City Council member Janice Hahn, the Democratic candidate for Congress in next month's special election in California's 36th District. Liberals were up in arms about the obnoxious rap-themed video -- the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee used the word "immediately" twice in demanding that Republicans denounce the ad -- but ...

Via Playbook, John McCain raps the Republican presidential field for what he sees as an isolationist strain that's emerging as the candidates shift away from strict hawkishness on foreign policy, and which cropped up at the New Hampshire debate last Monday. From the pre-taped interview with "This Week:" McCAIN: Well, I was more concerned about what the candidates in New Hampshire the other night said. This is isolationism. There's always been an
isolation strain on the Republican Party that Pat Buchanan wing of our party. But now it seems to have moved more center stage, so to speak.

The Chinese Government Is Buying Up Economic Assets And Huge Tracts Of Land All Over The United States In 2011, America is for sale and the communist Chinese are eager buyers. The Chinese government is using sovereign wealth funds and Chinese state-owned enterprises to buy up economic assets and huge tracts of land all over the United States. Many of our politicians hail all of this "foreign investment" as something that is "good for America", while many others see something much more sinister going on here. In any event, this is a trend that is rapidly accelerating and that is causing great concern among patriotic Americans. In my recent article entitled "China ...

(Reuters) - Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is returning home to Tucson for the weekend for the first time since she left the state for treatment after she was shot in the head in January, her office said on Friday. The Arizona Democrat, who was discharged on Wednesday from a Houston hospital, will not make any public appearances or grant interviews during the visit, and instead plans to see family, her office said. "We've been dreaming of this trip for some time," Giffords' husband, Navy Captain Mark Kelly, said in a statement. "Gabby misses Tucson very much and her doctors have said that returning to her hometown could play an important role in her ...

Ronald Reagan is widely regarded as the greatest American president since Franklin Roosevelt, possibly the greatest of the 20th century, and definitely one of the greatest ever. His centenary this year has elicited a cavalcade of conservative encomia. All try to distill the essence of his leadership and transmit it to a new generation. Rare, however, are those who didnt much care for him as president but whose opinions and convictions have shifted over time. Their assessments, however, make sense: his presidency created a new voting demographic (Reagan Democrats) and, often overlooked, the towering Republican legend had been more than half his life a loyal Democrat. As a ...

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- Oregon State Police say they have uncovered what they believe is the largest outdoor marijuana growing operation in state history. A group of bear hunters came upon the marijuana this spring and reported it to local police. On Wednesday, a state police SWAT team and an Oregon Army National Guard air team raided the site, located in a remote section of Wallowa County in northeast Oregon. More than 91,000 plants, ranging in size from starter plants to 10 inches, were removed or destroyed by police over a two-day period. La Grande Police Sgt. John Shaul describes the marijuana growing operation as "staggering," and says it encompassed a more than one-mile ...

OMAHA, Neb. Federal regulators say the utilities running both of Nebraska's nuclear power plants have taken the steps needed to protect them from flooding from the Missouri River. Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Victor Dricks said Friday that Omaha Public Power District's Fort Calhoun plant near Blair and Nebraska Public Power District's Cooper plant near Brownville are safe. Floodwaters are already surrounding the Fort Calhoun plant. The river has risen 1.5 feet higher than Fort Calhoun's 1,004-foot elevation above sea level, but the water is being held back by an 8-foot-tall flood barrier. Dricks says the Omaha Public Power District's preparations ...
Mitt's Tea Party problem? Not so fast. Post Date: 2011-06-17 14:53:07 by go65

So, does Mitt Romney have a Tea Party problem? Its easy to imagine that conservative small-government activists would be sour on the former governor, whose leadership in liberal Massachusetts yielded legislation characterized by compromise and front-page photos shared with a grinning Ted Kennedy. Romneys support of the Obamacare-resembling Massachusetts health care law, his onetime embrace of abortion rights, and his coiffed New England image have earned him slaps from foes -- recently from the likes of former Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the anti-tax group Club for Growth. But a peek into the most recent NBC/WSJ pollindicates that Romneys favorability among Tea Party backers ...

Obamanomics is the final nail in the coffin of Keynesian economic theories. From Investors.com: You have to wonder whos advising Democrats these days. With the economy stuck in a two-year, Obama-dug rut, their only new economic growth idea is to raise taxes and hike federal spending. According to The Hill, Democrats are so frustrated with President Obamas passivity on the economy that theyre actively working on a fresh stimulus package that would include significant new spending on roads and other infrastructure, paid for by closing various tax loopholes. Didnt their first stimulus include infrastructure spending? Remember Obamas stimulus at ...

The index of U.S. leading indicators rebounded in May after declining for the first time in almost a year, a sign economic growth may pick up by the end of 2011. The Conference Boards gauge of the outlook for the next three to six months rose 0.8 percent after a revised 0.4 percent decline in April, the New York-based group said today. Economists forecast a 0.3 percent gain, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey. Manufacturing and the rest of the economy may benefit in coming months from cheaper fuel prices and the easing of supply bottlenecks stemming from the earthquake in Japan. An expansion the Federal Reserve says is moderate may ensure ...

TAMPA, Fla. Mitt Romney sat at the head of the table at a coffee shop here on Thursday, listening to a group of unemployed Floridians explain the challenges of looking for work. When they finished, he weighed in with a predicament of his own. I should tell my story, Mr. Romney said. Im also unemployed. He chuckled. The eight people gathered around him, who had just finished talking about strategies of finding employment in a slow-to-recover economy, joined him in laughter. ARLINGTON, Va. - Authorities shut down major roads around the Pentagon after a man with a backpack was found in Arlington Cemetery early Friday and his 2011 Nissan was located in the bushes near the Pentagon's north parking lot off Route 27/Washington Boulevard. WTOP has learned bomb squad investigators are now searching the man's Fairfax County home. The road closures created a traffic nightmare for commuters coming into D.C. and Arlington Friday morning. "This is an unfolding situation," says James McJunkin, assistant director in charge at the FBI. "We've closed all the areas around Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon that we feel need to be closed," ...

London, June 17: A new survey has revealed that nearly half of dads in America, who under 45, say they have at least one child out of wedlock. A Pew Research Center report highlights the changing roles of parents as U.S. marriage rates and traditional family households fall to historic lows. When a father cant provide monetarily for his offspring, he often becomes estranged, the Daily Mail quoted Beth Latshaw, an assistant sociology professor at Appalachian State University, who researches changing paternal roles, as saying. She pointed to an economic advantage for college graduates hired at companies with better benefits and family-friendly policies, contrasted with ...

Though the quake was 50 miles southwest of Anchorage, most of the calls coming into the center ...

A senator from Kentucky continues to question how two Al-Qaeda cooperatives living in Kentucky went undetected for so long. Two Iraqi men living in Bowling Green were arrested back in May for conspiring with the terrorist group to kill U.S. Citizens abroad. Senator Rand Paul spoke to NEWSFIRST about the arrests Thursday, saying he still wants to know how they got here. "I want to know why the taxpayers are being forced to subsidize, give them government housing, government food stamps, how they got in here without a significant background check and why does America want to have 18,000 refugees coming here under asylum," Paul said. Senator Paul says he thinks more safeguards ...

The bipartisan leadership of the Senate Armed Services Committee says it suspects counterfeit electronic parts are infiltrating U.S. military weapons systems and is calling on the Chinese government to allow committee staffers into the country to investigate. Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Carl Levin, D-Mich., say it is vitally important to U.S. interests to rid American systems of the parts. "[C]ounterfeit electronic parts pose a risk to our national security, pose a risk to the reliability of our weapons systems and pose a risk to the safety of our military men and women," Levin said. He added that many at the Pentagon and within its contractors believe the threat comes from ...

President Obama has proposed a number of specific policies to tackle the jobs crisis, but they have gone nowhere because Republicans say that their top concern is the deficit and debt. Those of us worried about the debt - and I would strongly include myself - need to remember that if unemployment doesn't go down fast, the deficit is going to get much worse. If you're serious about deficit reduction, the single most important factor that will shrink it is to have more people working and paying taxes. I want to focus on one of Obama's proposals because it actually would add very little to the deficit, it has some Republican supporters and it would have an immediate effect on ...
