Obama’s horrifyingly bad speech Post Date: 2011-08-08 16:49:49 by no gnu taxes

He was a half hour late. His head turned from side to side as if he were attending a tennis match. He practically never looked in the camera, as if he were averting our gaze. And those were the strong parts of President Obamas disastrous speech. It was a bit like a slow-motion car crash. After a while, one stopped listening to the blather and simply watched the stock ticker go down and down. And down some more. Obama had all weekend and the best he could come up with was a reiteration of his plea for a balanced approach to deficit control. Thats right. We have a tumbling stock market, over 9 percent unemployment and a flight to gold (some investment advisers say it ...

July went into the record books as the fourth-warmest month in U.S. history as temperature marks fell across the country, the National Climate Data Center said. The average daily high temperature in July was 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 Celsius), 2.7 degrees warmer than the 1901-2000 norm, according to the center in Asheville, North Carolina. Oklahoma and Texas had their warmest months ever. Only seven of the lower 48 states -- all west of the Rockies -- experienced a July average temperature near or below the 20th century average, according to the report released today. The other 41 had an above-normal, much-above-normal or record warmest July. From May to July, a ...
President Zerobama Has Officially Jumped the Shark Post Date: 2011-08-08 15:56:21 by smokestack

I think we can all agree that Barack Obama has been a much worse President than anyone had feared. Liberals are now grumbling that they didn't see that he was "spineless" and are now praying for Hillary Clinton to primary him in 2012. Conservatives look at his broken promises, abysmal job performance, and possible extra-constitutional actions as proof that Mr. Obama is more inexperienced and naive than they thought. But this afternoon he has officially jumped the shark. For those who don't know, "jumping the shark" is when a television show or movie does something ridiculous. Thereafter, the program is never as good as it was before and quickly goes downhill. ...
Breaking: Dow Tumbles 75 Points as Obama Speaks Post Date: 2011-08-08 14:28:28 by no gnu taxes

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is taking a beating as President Obama continues to speak. Towards the beginning of his speech, the index was down 375 points. As I write now it is down 450. Obama's blaming of everyone else and trotting out the same old "solutions" are not helping. The S&P average is down a total of 5% on the day. The NASDAQ is also down 5% on the day. This is becoming a run. We need leadership now. In addition, between the time he announced the speech and gave it, the Dow fell another 100 points. Comment: It's getting to the point where you would have to be a Wisconin State Fair rioter to be able to stomach the site of that Kenyan asshole.

acqueline Kennedy-Onassis believed Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was behind the assassination of her husband, according to tapes recorded by the former first lady just months after President John F. Kennedy's death, the Daily Mail reports. The tapes, which are set to be released by ABC News, reportedly reveal that Kennedy-Onassis believed then-vice president Johnson, along with businessmen in the South, planned the Nov. 22, 1963, assassination of her husband in Dallas, Texas. "The tabloid reports about the content of the tapes are totally erroneous," an ABC News spokesperson said in a statement to FoxNews.com. "ABC News isn't releasing any content from those ...
Liberal Bob Schieffer Makes Obama Crony Axelrod Look Like an Idiot (Not Hard, Really) Post Date: 2011-08-08 13:03:47 by smokestack

During his interview with Obama 2012 campaign strategist David Axelrod, "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer played a clip of President Obama talking with NBC's Matt Lauer a few weeks after he took office. Here's what a newly inaugurated President Obama said: PRESIDENT OBAMA: that's exactly right. And â and, you know, a year from now I think people â are gonna see that â we're starting to make some progress. But there's still gonna be some pain out there. If I don't have this done in three years, then there's gonna be a one-term proposition. Schieffer, reminding Axelrod that we are nearing that ...

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) The Army has approved an atheism-themed concert event at Fort Bragg after months of disagreement about the show. Sgt. Justin Griffith, a Bragg soldier and military director of American Atheists, says the event could be a turning point for military personnel who don't belong to any religious tradition. Griffith had tried to organize the festival this year, but canceled it in the spring after saying the Army post wasn't treating the secular event the same way it had helped an earlier Christian concert. The event is scheduled for March 31, 2012. Famed atheist Richard Dawkins is slated to speak, along with musicians and other entertainment. Bragg spokesman ...

Mitt Romney will continue his attacks on President Barack Obama at events Monday, hitting him over the recent U.S. downgrade from Standard & Poor's. Campaigning in New Hampshire, the Republican presidential frontrunner will tout his own history with S&P as governor of Massachusetts, when the state received credit rating upgrades, according to the campaign. "When I was governor, S&P awarded Massachusetts with a credit rating upgrade for our sound fiscal management and the underlying strength of our economy. This didn't happen by accident," Romney will say. "The president's failure to put our nation's fiscal and economic house in order has caused a ...

President Barack Obamas administration will offer states relief from the nations main public-education law if they agree to his schools agenda. States can avoid provisions of the No Child Left Behind law if they sign off on yet-unspecified administration reform, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and White House domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes said Aug. 5 in a press briefing. The Education Department has pushed states to adopt national academic standards and merit pay for teachers. No Child Left Behind requires that more students pass standardized tests each year to receive federal funding. The administration has criticized the laws focus on holding ...

Ginther, 63, from Texas, won multiple million dollar payouts each time. Luck?: Ms Ginther won four lots of vast sums on lottery scratch cards, half of which were bought at the same mini mart First, she won $5.4 million, then a decade later, she won $2 million, then two years later $3 million and finally, in the spring of 2008, she hit a $10 million jackpot. The odds of this has been calculated at one in eighteen septillion and luck like this could only come once every quadrillion ...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Nearly 15% of the U.S. population relied on food stamps in May, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. The number of Americans using the government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) -- more commonly referred to as food stamps -- shot to an all-time high of 45.8 million in May, the USDA reported. That's up 12% from a year ago, and 34% higher than two years ago. The program provides monthly benefits to low-income individuals and families, which they can use at stores that accept SNAP benefits. To qualify for food stamps, an individual's income can't exceed $1,174 a month or $14,088 a year -- an amount that is 130 ...

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Corrado Piccoli's sisters believed one of their other siblings had his Purple Heart. So it was a shock when a Vermont Army National Guard officer showed up at Mary Piccoli's door one day, telling her he had the medal, awarded posthumously after her brother was killed in action during World War II. "You better sit down. I have a story to tell you," Adeline Rockko was told when her sister called earlier this year with word of Capt. Zachariah Fike's discovery. "We had no idea it was even missing." On Sunday, Fike will give the Piccoli family Corrado's Purple Heart and other medals he earned while fighting with the Army's 45th Infantry ...
Obama deserves blame for credit downgrade Post Date: 2011-08-07 10:30:13 by smokestack

Standard and Poors explanation for why it downgraded U.S. debt is written in such a way that it can be seized upon by all ideological stripes. The statement cites the unwillingness of Republicans to raise taxes and of Democrats to agree to entitlement cuts. And the rating agencys discourse about the political dysfunction will provide column fodder for Washington pundits who long for the days when both parties would work together to reach compromises. But make no mistake, when all the dust settles, it will be difficult for President Obama to escape blame for this. Defenders of Obama will attempt to pin the blame on his predecessor, President Bush, and on intransigent Tea Party ...

BLAME OBAMA FOR STANDARD AND POOR’S DOWNGRADE OF AMERICA’S AAA CREDIT RATING Post Date: 2011-08-06 11:42:11 by smokestack

No doubt the talking heads, pundits, and journalists in the mainstream media will blame the Bush Administration, Republicans in Congress, and even the Tea Party for Standard and Poors downgrade of Americas AAA credit rating for the first time in 70 years, but responsibility for the countrys financial mess and staggering levels of debt belongs to the Ruler and his Bread and Circuses administration for their unprecedented government spending and borrowing. Since President Obama took office in January 2009, the United States has embarked on the most ambitious failed experiment in Washington meddling in US history. Huge increases in government spending, massive federal ...

Will S&P Downgrade Be Another Y2K Scare? [Full Thread] Post Date: 2011-08-06 09:49:29 by lucysmom

It isnt yet clear what the impact of the S&P downgrade of the US to AA+ will have. There are good reasons to believe, despite the media hyperventilating, that it wont add up to much, and may perversely hit wobbly stock markets more than Treasury yields. But there is a much bigger issue, namely S&Ps highly questionable conduct, the lack of any analytical process behind this ratings action, and the political implications. Will the S&P Downgrade Have Much Immediate Impact? Although I run the risk of being proven wrong, there are lots of reasons to think that the reaction in the Treasury market to the news will be underwhelming. We might see some reactions ...
Downgrade Nation -- Downgraded President Post Date: 2011-08-06 09:13:20 by smokestack

On Feb. 7, 2010, the secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, was asked whether persistent deficits put the United States in danger of losing its AAA credit rating. Absolutely not, he said. That will never happen to this country. A little over a year later it did, when the ratings agency Egan-Jones downgraded the United States to AA. Egan-Jones, though a member of the cartel of ten credit-rating agencies recognized under federal law, is not one of the Big Three (Moodys, Standard & Poors, and Fitch), and its ratings do not generate the same kind of headlines. But it is an interesting firm, and not beloved by the other agencies. One reason for that ...

S&P has dropped the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA+: The United States credit rating was cut for the first time when Standard and Poors lowered it from triple-A to AA+, citing the countrys looming deficit burden and weak policy-making process. Standard and Poors on Friday revised the nations rating downwards to a AA+ with a negative outlook, despite a push back from the White House, which said the rating agencys analysis of the US economy was deeply flawed. It was the first time the US was downgraded since it first received a triple-A rating from Moodys in 1917; it has held the S&P rating since 1941. S&P further warned: The ...

This is a terrible day. For the first time, the creditworthiness of the United States has been called into question by an independent entity, Standard and Poors, which has downgraded the countrys credit rating from AAA to AA+. Its statement features this terrifying phrase: The political brinksmanship of recent months highlights what we see as Americas governance and policymaking becoming less stable, less effective, and less predictable than what we previously believed. S&P assigns blame to all players, and by seeing a negative outlook down the road, is saying it expects to downgrade to a simple AA within two years. The Left will and is already ...
