For Utah's Jews, Jon Huntsman Is Their Kind of Mormon Post Date: 2011-09-28 14:13:43 by Ferret Mike

Romney Earns Suspicion By Wearing Religion on His Sleeve Who Is Jack? Utahs Jews say Jon Huntsman is the kind of Mormon they are comfortable with. Mitt Romney, despite earning national appeal among Jewish Republicans, rubs many the wrong way. Salt Lake City In Utah, former governor Jon Huntsman is known in some circles as a Jack Mormon, local parlance for someone who might claim affiliation with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but is less than active in his local Mormon Church. And among Utah Jews, that seems to count as a definite plus. Jews would be more comfortable with the Jack Mormon than an ethical Mormon as president, said ...

The Man in the Middle Puts George W. Bush in the Forefront Post Date: 2011-09-28 11:17:57 by no gnu taxes

As time passes, and the distance between George W. Bushs presidency and the present grows, we can gauge his biggest decisions and his fortitude with greater circumspection. And the deeper understanding that comes through time helps us see that many of the decisions that elicited the most outrage while he was in office have proven, with time, to be some of his best. Moreover, from the perspective of the highly secularized administration occupying the presidency today, its surreal to reflect on how important President Bushs faith was to him and to those around him. As well as how focused and tenacious that faith made him once the role of war president was thrust ...
Elizabeth Warren: "There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own" Post Date: 2011-09-28 10:49:34 by Ferret Mike

-- An August video of Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren on the campaign trail is heating up on the internet, and some commentators are pointing to the clip - in which Warren makes a case for progressive economic policies - as evidence that the newly minted Democratic candidate could give incumbent Republican Senator Scott Brown a run for his money. In the video (at left), which was filmed at an event in Andover, Mass., Warren rebuts the GOP-touted notion that raising taxes on the wealthy amounts to "class warfare," contending that "there is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody." Warren rejects the concept that it is possible for ...
Florida will likely hold Jan. primary, threatening presidential calendar Post Date: 2011-09-28 09:04:29 by go65

Washington (CNN) -- Florida is now expected to hold its presidential primary on the last day in January 2012, a move likely to throw the carefully arranged Republican nominating calendar into disarray and jumpstart the nominating process a month earlier than party leaders had hoped. Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon told CNN on Tuesday that a state commission exploring potential primary dates is likely to choose January 31 to hold the nominating contest. If that happens, it would almost certainly force the traditional early states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada to leapfrog Florida and move their primaries and caucuses into early- to mid-January. "We are expecting ...

A CNN/ORC poll released today shows the approval rating for the tea party movement at its lowest point since polling began in 2010. The conservative/libertarian movement is viewed favorably by just 28 percent of Americans down from its all time high of 38 percent last November while 53 percent have a negative opinion of it, also a record. Conversely, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's approval rating is at an all-time high even better than when she was the nation's First Lady with 69 percent of Americans holding a favorable view of her, compared to 26 percent who do not. Clinton's popularity eclipses even First Lady Michelle Obama, who has a 65 ...

What part of Liberals are hypocrites dont you people understand? Its been 66 days since President Barack Obama authorized military action against Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. However, last Friday marked an important date, signaling Congress most authorize the military action or U.S. forces will be required to withdraw in accordance with the War Powers Resolution. But that date passed with little fanfare, especially from a Democratic Party in Congress that was very vocal about former President George W. Bushs incursion into Iraq. On Laura Ingrahams Thursday radio show, Washington Post columnist George Will emphasized that despite the law not being ...

Heres yet more good news for Democrats. National Journal reports: One of the Democratic partys leading pollsters [Stanley Greenberg] released a survey of 60 Republican-held battleground districts today, painting an ominous picture for congressional Democrats in 2012. The poll shows Democratic House candidates faring worse than they did in the 2010 midterms, being dragged down by an unpopular president who would lose to both Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. The story goes on to say that instead of an overall anti-incumbent sentiment impacting members of both parties, voters are taking more of their anger out on Democrats. When voters were asked whether theyre ...
Harris Poll: Ron Paul Would Beat Obama 51-49 Post Date: 2011-09-27 14:22:03 by Capitalist Eric

A new Harris Interactive poll released today reveals that Congressman Ron Paul would defeat Barack Obama 51-49 in a hypothetical run off, one of only two Republican candidates who would stand a good chance of preventing Obama from securing a second term in the White House. Only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney would beat Obama, according to the poll, which found that Obama would defeat every other Republican candidate, including Rick Perry. The survey is another indication that Paul is quickly moving into second place to become Romneys main challenger as Rick Perrys campaign crashes and burns. The poll was conducted in mid-September and surveyed 2,462 US adults. Its findings reveal ...
Dumbass Obama White House Doesn't Know Which of the 57 States is Which Post Date: 2011-09-27 13:02:23 by no gnu taxes

Looks like someone in the White House press office needs to brush up on their U.S. geography. The press office issued credentials to those reporters and photojournalists who are covering the presidents trip this week to Washington state, California, and Colorado. The credential even provides a handy graphic highlighting (in white) which states the president will visit. The only problem? Wyoming is highlighted, not Colorado. To be fair, both states are square, nearly identical in size, and stacked next to each other. But we doubt our third grade teachers would buy that!

Actually, if you DID vote for Obongo you're a racist. Niggers only voted for Obongo because he's a nigger. Humans only voted for Obongo because of racial guilt. Nobody voted for Obongo for any reason other than race. Therefore, all who voted for him are racist. Nobody voted for the chimp for his ideas - he didn't have any. Liberals were so determined to get a nigger into office that they were willing to do anything, including destroy the country - and they did. People are getting damn sick of (Shouldnotbe)Freenigger and his uppity monkeyshines. When someone plays the same character in 20 movies in a row, even brain-dead zombies will start to get tired of it. People are going ...
Health reform lawsuit appears headed for Supreme Court Post Date: 2011-09-26 19:33:45 by A K A Stone

JENNIFER HABERKORN The Obama administration chose not to ask the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to re-hear a pivotal health reform case Monday, signaling that its going to ask the Supreme Court to decide whether President Barack Obamas health reform law is constitutional. The move puts the Supreme Court in the difficult position of having to decide whether to take the highly politically charged case in the middle of the presidential election. The Justice Department is expected to ask the court to overturn an August decision by a panel of three judges in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that found the laws requirement to buy insurance is unconstitutional. The suit was ...

Black Pastor Sues Obama & Democratic Party for Racism Written on September 25, 2011 by Ann-Marie Murrell I recently interviewed a man who is suing the Obama administration for racial discriminationagainst white people. Normally I wouldnt describe anyone by their skin color, but its interesting to note in this instance that the man filing the lawsuit is Black. Reverend Wayne Perryman began the lawsuit (case C11-1503) along with journalist Robert Parks because he was fed up with all the rhetoric coming from the left, blaming all of Obamas failures on race. Perryman and Parks began researching the Democrat Party and became enraged when they noticed the Democrat ...
Americans Express Historic Negativity Toward U.S. Government Post Date: 2011-09-26 11:52:26 by A K A Stone

This story is the first in a weeklong series on Gallup.com on Americans' views on the role and performance of government. PRINCETON, NJ -- A record-high 81% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the country is being governed, adding to negativity that has been building over the past 10 years. Majorities of Democrats (65%) and Republicans (92%) are dissatisfied with the nation's governance. This perhaps reflects the shared political power arrangement in the nation's capital, with Democrats controlling the White House and U.S. Senate, and Republicans controlling the House of Representatives. Partisans on both sides can thus find fault with government without necessarily ...

It's A Catastrophe For Gold And Silver Post Date: 2011-09-26 11:05:53 by Skip Intro

US futures are down modestly in ultra-early trading, but the real disaster: gold and silver, both of whom have been getting wiped out lately. Form FinViz, this quick look at the previous metals "complex" tells you all you need to know. Silver, of course, is in the worst shape, as it's been making big down moves like this day after day, and is now about to be 50% lower from its late-April high. Gold, of course, was above $1900/oz just a few days ago. If you haven't seen a multi-year silver futures chart, you're really missing out.
Herman Cain Takes On Morgan Freeman For Calling Tea Party Racist Post Date: 2011-09-26 09:04:14 by Happy Quanzaa

As NewsBusters reported Friday, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman during an interview on CNN said members of the Tea Party are racists willing to do whatever they can to "get this black man" out of the White House. After his win in Saturday's Florida straw poll, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain responded to Freeman during an interview with Fox News's Neil Cavuto (video follows with transcript and commentary): NEIL CAVUTO: Morgan Freeman, the actor, has been very critical of Tea Parties, and said that what theyre doing is racist based, and going after and unseating Obama has at its underpinnings racism. Im paraphrasing here, but what do you ...
Welcome to the Police State: NYC Cops Mace Peaceful Protestors Against Wall Street Post Date: 2011-09-25 11:08:55 by lucysmom

Im beginning to wonder whether the right to assemble is effectively dead in the US. No one who is a wage slave (which is the overwhelming majority of the population) can afford to have an arrest record, even a misdemeanor, in this age of short job tenures and rising use of background checks. Now at least in New York (and I hope readers in other cities will chime in) the right to assemble seems to be pretty much a dead letter. I was in Sydney during the global protests against the Iraq War, and I was told that the New York demonstrations (which were already hindered by typically lousy winter weather) were pretty much blocked by the police. Protestors were tying to gather at the UN, ...

ORLANDO The alarm bells are ringing for Rick Perrys presidential campaign. The Texas governor, who leaped to the top of national polls immediately after his August kickoff, finds himself suddenly reeling from a pair of setbacks in the countrys most prominent political battleground. First, Perry drew a round of scathing reviews for his unfocused debate performance in Orlando Thursday night. Then he suffered a thumping defeat in the Florida GOPs straw poll to long-shot candidate Herman Cain, no less that amounted to a vote of no confidence from dissatisfied activists. The back to back stumbles added up to the worst week of Perrys still-young ...
Obama's likability is keeping him afloat Post Date: 2011-09-24 11:41:06 by Ferret Mike

DENVER -- Public opinion polls show that people like President Barack Obama personally, even if they don't agree with his policies and have been hurt by them. It's this likability factor that's keeping him afloat politically as the 2012 election nears. And it gives his team hope that Obama can win a second term despite high unemployment and sour attitudes about his policies and the country's future. Across the country, some people who have lost their jobs or their homes since Obama took office nonetheless say they want him to succeed. What's more, they're working to help re-elect him because of the affinity they feel for him. It's a bright spot in an otherwise ...

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) A civil liberties group said Friday that an Alabama town should not start an alternative sentencing program that would give non-violent offenders a new choice: Go to jail, or go to church. Starting next week, the program will allow a city judge to sentence misdemeanor offenders to work off their sentences in jail and pay a fine, or go to church every Sunday for a year. Offenders who select church can pick the place of worship but must check in weekly with the pastor and the police department. If the one-year church attendance program is completed successfully, the offender's case will be dismissed. "It's an easy choice for me," Bay Minette ...

THE WEEKLY STANDARDs official reaction to last nights Republican presidential debate: Yikes. Most wont express publicly just how horrifiedor at least how demoralizedthey are. After all, they still want to beat Obamaas do we. And they want to get along with the possible nominee and the other candidates and their supporters. They dont want to rock the boat too much. But maybe the GOP presidential boat needs rocking. FreedomWorks Suggests Tea Party Opposition To Romney Is Softening Post Date: 2011-09-23 21:54:24 by go65

ORLANDO -- The head of an influential Tea Party group that has been outspoken against Mitt Romney signaled Friday that their opposition to the former Massachusetts governor is softening as Rick Perry falters. "Romney has an opportunity to rehabilitate himself," Matt Kibbe, chairman and CEO of FreedomWorks, told The Huffington Post in an interview. Perry, the Texas governor, who entered the race about six weeks ago, has stumbled after a meteoric start, Kibbe said. "It looks to me like Rick Perry has been buttoned down by political handlers. He was being very cautious last night. It was as if someone told him he wasn't allowed to say what he wanted to say, so he sort of ...
