A larger-than-life statue of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan has been removed from Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach, California after it was damaged by vandals. The crooks attempted to steal the bronze statue using a chain and truck, according to Newport Beach police. City crews have since removed the statue because it was leaning forward and to the left. Either someone really didnt like Reagan or they tried to steal it so they can sell it for scrap metal, police Sgt. Kirk Jacobi explained. Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has raised $2 million in campaign contributions in the week since sexual harassment allegations against him became public, his spokesman J.D. Gordon said today. By comparison, the Georgia businessman collected $2.8 million in political donations in the entire June-to-September fundraising period. The release of the fundraising numbers came as Cain's GOP rival Jon Huntsman urged Cain to disclose all the information about the allegations, which have dominated the GOP contest in recent days. "It's got to come out in total," Huntsman said, during an appearance earlier today on NBC's "Meet the Press." ...

Usually, the earth-moving events on an autumn weekend in Oklahoma are at the college football stadiums in Norman and Stillwater. But on this Saturday and Sunday, the earth moved at least 23 times and football was not involved. The quakes, powerful by Midwestern standards, shook towns about an hours drive northeast of Oklahoma City. They began early Saturday and continued intermittently through the weekend. Late Saturday night, the area experienced the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the state. No serious injuries were reported, but minor damage to roads and buildings was reported, according to the Sheriffs Department in Lincoln County, the epicenter for ...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has an interesting take on Herman Cains growing scandal: honestly, he says, these days it seems like women cant take a joke. There are people now who hesitate to tell a joke to a woman in the workplace, any kind of joke, because it could be interpreted incorrectly, he told the National Review. I dont. Im very cautious. Paul, whose own campaign was marked by allegations he mistreated a woman years ago, says the media shouldnt be reporting stories like the one thats put Cain in all the hot water hes in this week. In my election, I had an anonymous girl from college who I still dont ...
Rice: Where's all the foreign policy Post Date: 2011-11-06 13:21:09 by Skip Intro

Condoleezza Rice has a problem with the Republican presidential candidates: They're not having a serious enough debate about world affairs. "Foreign policy ought to be more of the debate than it is," the former secretary of state said in an interview aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "It concerns me that we are not having a discussion about foreign policy, and, obviously, I would suggest that anyone whos going to run for president of the United States spend some time on the basics of foreign policy." "Anyone whos running for president really owes it to the American people to take the time to do that," she added. Rice also had ...

Former Dem. congressman makes U-turn on voter ID laws, says ballot fraud common Published: 10:36 AM 10/24/2011 | Updated: 7:50 PM 10/24/2011 By Neil Munro - The Daily Caller Fraudulent voting by imaginary voters, not racist obstacles to the ballot box, is the most disturbing and common form of voter suppression facing people of all races, says former Alabama congressman Artur Davis, an African-American Democrat. Ive changed my mind on voter ID laws I think Alabama did the right thing in passing one and I wish I had gotten it right when I was in political office, Davis wrote in an October 17 op-ed published in the Montgomery Advertiser. Inmates to Pay for Their Upkeep Post Date: 2011-11-06 09:24:21 by CZ82

Inmates to Pay for Their Upkeep If Jeff Stone, a supervisor for Riverside County, California gets his way, inmates may soon be charged for their daily upkeep in county jails. Cities, counties, states and federal government are facing financial deficits. Without being able to raise taxes, the only way these various government agencies can survive is to cut services and personnel anywhere they can. In some cases, the jails and prisons have been hit hard with cuts, which has led to increased danger for the remaining guards and prison personnel. In other cases, jails have been forced to release some prisoners early along with others that were convicted of lesser non-violent crimes. Jeff ...
Extreme Poverty Is Now At Record Levels: 19 Statistics About The Poor That Will Absolutely Astound You Post Date: 2011-11-06 09:01:00 by A K A Stone

ccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, a higher percentage of Americans is living in extreme poverty than they have ever measured before. In 2010, we were told that the economy was recovering, but the truth is that the number of the very poor soared to heights never seen previously. Back in 1993 and back in 2009, the rate of extreme poverty was just over 6 percent, and that represented the worst numbers on record. But in 2010, the rate of extreme poverty hit a whopping 6.7 percent. That means that one out of every 15 Americans is now considered to be very poor. For many people, this is all very confusing because their guts are telling them that things are getting worse ...

November 5, 2011, 9:01 p.m. Reporting from Hanoverton, Ohio An aggressive Republican drive to weaken the labor rights of government workers appears to have crested, at least in Ohio, where voters are expected to throw out a far-reaching anti-union law this week. The referendum over collective bargaining for public employees, potentially the most important contest in off-year elections around the nation, is being closely watched for clues about shifting voter trends in a state expected to play its usual outsized role in next year's presidential contest. Barely seven months ago, newly elected Gov. John Kasich joined other Republican governors, including Wisconsin's Scott ...

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Was President Barack Obama too busy watching the Operation Repo marathon or something else last Friday night? When KMOX host Charlie Brennan asked now-retired St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa how the traditional call of congratulations from the White House went, La Russa suddenly realized that
it never happened. Thats a good point, I hadnt really even thought about that, replied a surprised-sounding La Russa, who can be forgiven for having a few other things on his mind over the past week. As we were getting into the World Series we had a call from the White House to make sure they had the correct number for my ...

Republicans Want A Mulligan On The Super Committee Post Date: 2011-11-05 12:47:45 by Brian S

The dynamic that forced DC to create a Super Committee as an escape hatch before the US government slammed itself headlong into the debt ceiling the absolutely ironclad, fanatical unwillingness on the part of Republicans to allow any significant revenue increases, no matter what they gain in the process remains unchanged. Therefore, its becoming quite likely that the so-called triggers, automatic and significant cuts to Medicare and the Depart of Defense both, will be pulled. Of course, the entire point of the triggers was for there to be a real incentive for lawmakers to cut a deal any deal instead of sitting on their hands and choosing the path of least ...

MYFOXNY.COM - Swastikas were found painted on the facades of the Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst branches of the Queens Library and on the door of Congregation Tifereth Israel on Thursday. The Anti-Defamation League today condemned the anti-Semitic graffiti. The ADL says there were 133 anti-Jewish incidents reported across New York City in 2010. A nationwide ADL survey released just yesterday found that anti-Semitic attitudes have risen in America. The ADL survey found that 15 percent of Americans - nearly 35 million adults - hold deeply anti-Semitic views. That's up three percent from 2009. "The fact that anti-Semitic attitudes have increased significantly over the past two ...

Republican lawmakers and conservative activists are expressing outrage after the Obama administration announced its objection to adding President Franklin Roosevelt's D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The objection was noted during a congressional hearing on Rep. Bill Johnson's, R-Ohio, bill -- the "World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2011." "It is unconscionable that the Obama administration would stand in the way of honoring our nation's distinguished World War II veterans," Johnson said. "President Roosevelt's prayer gave solace, comfort and strength to our nation and our brave warriors as we fought against tyranny ...

Cain Shows Initial Resilience in the Face of Controversy Herman Cain is showing initial resilience in the face of allegations of sexual impropriety: More than half of potential Republican voters say the controversy is not serious, fewer than a quarter say it makes them less likely to support Cain, and hes running essentially evenly with Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination. Yet the controversy does pose risks for Cain. Just under four in 10 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in this ABC News/Washington Post poll do say the allegations are a serious matter. WikiLeakers may have to think twice before clicking on that “classified” document. It could be the digital smoking gun that points back at them.
Darpa-funded researchers are building a program for “generating and distributing believable misinformation.” The ultimate goal is to plant auto-generated, bogus documents in classified networks and program them to track down intruders’ movements, a military research abstract reveals.
“We want to flood adversaries with information that’s bogus, but looks real,” says Salvatore Stolfo, the Columbia University computer science professor leading the project. “This will confound and misdirect them.” (You can make your own fake doc on the research ...

NEWARK, N.J. A group of nurses claims in a lawsuit a major New Jersey hospital has forced them to assist in performing abortions despite their religious objections. The lawsuit was filed this week in federal court in Newark against the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. It claims the hospital changed its policy in September to require its employees to assist in abortions or be subject to termination. It says the requirement violates state and federal laws. The nurses are seeking an injunction to force the hospital to change its policy and an order prohibiting it from retaliating against them. The hospital says in a statement none of its nurses is required to ...

POLITICO has learned that one of the women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s received a payout of about $45,000 as part of her settlement significantly more than the two or three months salary Cain initially recalled the woman obtained. The woman who received the approximately $45,000 is the staffer who Cain has acknowledged formally lodged a complaint about his behavior. Cain described her in a Fox News interview as a writer in the communications department. The compensation the woman received as part of her departure package was far more than that what a mid-level trade association employee in the late 1990s ...

If I were allowed to use the word retarded these days, Id use it to describe the Herman Cain campaign these days. But it is another word weve axed on the list for some legitimate reasons. Truth be told, I sometimes still use it and I think it might fit here. Nonetheless, Ill go with stupid. The Cain Campaign has made it official. It believes the Rick Perry campaign is behind the allegations about the women. This is stupid, if not retarded, for a number of reasons, chief among them is that if the Cain campaign believes Curt Anderson is responsible (something Anderson denies even to the Politico, which would give the Politico reason to out him if it were him, and they ...
