D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray sent a letter to the National Park Service on Friday demanding full and complete reimbursement of the $1.6 million incurred by hosting protest camps on federal land at Freedom Plaza and McPherson Square. Our citizens cannot be expected to pay for the consequences of a decision in which they have no say, Mr. Gray said in the letter. While many cities across the globe have seen protesters take to the streets, the Occupy groups have camped on federally controlled land since October and racked up city costs in overtime, public sanitation and park and street maintenance and cleaning, Mr. Gray said in his letter to Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. ...

My Time at Walmart: Why We Need Serious Welfare Reform During the 2010 and 2011 summers, I was a cashier at Wal-Mart #1788 in Scarborough, Maine. I spent hours upon hours toiling away at a register, scanning, bagging, and dealing with questionable clientele. These were all expected parts of the job, and I was okay with it. What I didnt expect to be part of my job at Wal-Mart was to witness massive amounts of welfare fraud and abuse. I understand that sometimes, people are destitute. They need help, and they accept help from the state in order to feed their families. This is fine. It happens. Im not against temporary aid helping those who truly need it. What I saw at Wal-Mart, ...

WASHINGTON The Obama administration and at least one of its allies say they are pleased that Russia has decided to support U.N. Security Council action aimed at halting violence in Syria but wont support Russias proposed resolution unless changes are made. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Friday that Russias surprise introduction of a Security Council resolution on Syria was an important step and a sign of growing unity on the importance of opposing Syrian President Bashar Assads regimes brutal crackdown on reformers. Its clear from the steps that Russia took that more and more of the international community is coming ...

FREMONT, Calif. — A Silicon Valley security expert, ordered to shut down his in-home, online one-man sperm bank, vowed Tuesday to fight federal regulators because he is helping “the 99 percent.” Trent Arsenault faces up to a $100,000 fine and as much as a year in prison if he does not comply with the order issued more than a year ago. “It’s sort of like my way of helping the 99 percent,” he told KTVU. “A lot of the people who come out, who request the sperm cannot afford the traditional sperm bank method or their insurance plan doesn’t cover those fertility treatments that can run up into the thousands of dollars. I’m helping those childless couples have babies.” Since 2006, Arsenault ...

Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: The emergence of Ron Paul has stunned quite a few people in this state. Everyone has been focusing right now on Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney and how they slug it out for the nomination. But in this state, he is the guy with the big momentum and, in the latest poll, within just a percent point of the presumed frontrunner here. That is for the moment Newt Gingrich. The Texas congressman joins me right now. Congressman, what do you make of these numbers? And what do you think of the possibility you win this state? REP. RON PAUL, R-TX, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Well, I guess that is very possible now, and the numbers are more or ...

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) Jessica Lynch was just 19 when the world first saw her a broken, blond soldier caught on combat video in Iraq, her face wearing something between a grimace and a grin. The Army supply clerk was being carried on a stretcher after nine days as a prisoner of war. She had been captured along with five others after the 507th Maintenance Company took a wrong turn and came under attack in Nasiriyah on March 23, 2003. Eleven of her fellow soldiers died. Lynch had joined the Army at 18 to earn money for college and become a school teacher. This Friday, at 28, she completes that mission. She'll spend Thursday finishing her training as a student teacher at ...

U.S. industrial production unexpectedly dropped in November for the first time in seven months, an indication of a pause in manufacturing as 2011 comes to a close. Output at factories, mines and utilities declined 0.2 percent after a 0.7 percent gain in October, figures from the Federal Reserve showed today. Economists forecast a 0.1 percent advance, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey. Factory production, which makes up 75 percent of the total, decreased 0.4 percent, also the first decline since April. A slowing economy in Europe may limit shipments from American manufacturers and restrain the industry thats been a source of strength for the recovery. While ...

(Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images/AFP) With the approval from the Oval Office the only thing keeping a terrifying law that will allow for the indefinite detention and torture of Americans from passing, presidential hopeful Ron Paul has finally unleashed on the legislation. Although President Barack Obama had originally insisted that he would veto the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin revealed recently that the bill in its current wording was ...

Just days ago, CBS national news printed new details about Department of Justice operation "Fast & Furious." Internal memos show that agents actually discussed using the operation as a "false flag" to justify taking away the 2nd amendment rights of US citizens. Congress is currently investigating Fast & Furious. Attorney General Eric Holder has already been caught making at least one false statement under oath. Gun rights advocates have been asking why Republicans aren't calling for criminal charges against Eric Holder. Many have criticized FOX News for giving the story little coverage. CBS national news has been breaking most of the new details related to ...

WASHINGTON -- In the time between his tenure as Speaker of the House and his candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, Newt Gingrich presented himself as a ideological bridge of sorts: someone who was eager to find policy twists that would gather the support of both parties. It is what spurred his advocacy for Medicare Part D and a watered down version of President Bush's immigration reform plan. It also produced a series of strange-bedfellows moments. The most famous of these was when Gingrich appeared with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an ad campaign orchestrated by Al Gore to pressure Congress to fight climate change. Less discussed are the ...

Obama Campaign Collecting GOP Emails Post Date: 2011-12-14 12:31:04 by A K A Stone

The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website. The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat. The Democratic National Committee last month released a video that seemed designed to damage Mitt Romney, the GOP candidate feared most by the Obama campaign. The ...
The Rich Are Not Conservative (The 1%) Post Date: 2011-12-12 12:37:50 by A K A Stone

The latest Gallup Poll confirms what most of us had suspected all along: the rich -- that top one percent, the folks whom radical leftists like OWS rail against -- are not as conservative as the rest of us. The greater conservatism of the 99% rest of us is slight -- one percentage point -- but it does bring home the fact that many of those with wealth are rather happy with the struggling middle class keeping to its place. Wealth is not income. The income of the middle class comes from hardworking folks; often husband and wife both hold full-time jobs, trying to reach a level of security, comfort, and leisure which people like leftist Senator Jay Rockefeller or Senator John Kerry have ...

Supreme Court will hear Arizona immigration case Kagan recuses herself Post Date: 2011-12-12 11:31:05 by A K A Stone

The Supreme Court announced Monday it will take the case of Arizonas tough immigration crackdown law, adding yet another contentious clash between the Obama administration and the states to its docket. The case, which has attracted national attention, pits Arizona against the Obama administration, which sued and won court orders blocking implementation of most of the law at both the district and appeals court levels. Arizonas law spawned a host of copycat laws in other states, and most of them have likewise seen their key provisions blocked by court challenges from the administration. At stake is Arizonas goal of granting state and local police the power to check the ...
It Turns Out, The Fastest Growing Emerging Market Is Right Here In The US Post Date: 2011-12-12 10:48:44 by A K A Stone

Richard Bernstein recently published his five favorite investment themes. One of those themes: "Overweight of smaller US stocks, with an eye for smaller, domestically-oriented financials." One characteristic that makes this sector attractive is its extraordinary earnings growth potential. From Bernstein's 2012 outlook: We continue to believe that the best secular investment theme in the global equity markets is US small cap stocks. Smaller US companies are starved for capital much the way that emerging markets, energy, and commodities were ten years ago. By definition, capital starved companies higher cost of capital translates to higher expected returns for ...
Romney Calls on Gingrich to Return Freddie Mac Money Post Date: 2011-12-12 10:45:57 by A K A Stone

Asked this morning if Newt Gingrich should give that [Freddie Mac] money back, on Fox and Friends, Mitt Romney said he thought Gingrich should. I sure do, Romney responded. He was on a debate saying that politicians who took money from Freddie and Fannie should go to jail, which is outrageous in itself. But, look, he says he was in the consulting business. Thats very different than the consulting business other people have been in. He was in the business of connecting folks with government. He was on K street.
Its very different than the private sector. Romney appears to be referring to these remarks Gingrich made in the October ...

In October, the Alameda County Sheriffs Department turned parts of the campus of the University of California in Berkeley into an urban battlefield. The occasion was Urban Shield 2011, an annual SWAT team exposition organized to promote mutual response, collaboration and competition between heavily militarized police strike forces representing law enforcement departments across the United States and foreign nations. At the time, the Alameda County Sheriffs Department was preparing for an imminent confrontation with the nascent Occupy movement that had set up camp in downtown Oakland, and would demonstrate the brunt of its repressive capacity against the ...

Senator Levin revealed - It was Obama who required the Indefinite Detainment Bill INCLUDE U.S. Citizens as part of the wording! Well now we know, for those who have been holding out "hope" that Obama will veto the 1031 Indefinite Detainment Bill against holding U.S. Citizens without rights to a trial or lawyer or charges for the rest of their lives.... It was Obama who required the bill have the language of U.S. Citizens being held without rights in the bill! The only reason he would veto it, is because it does not give him the absolute power as he wants! Obama wants absolute Dictatorial Powers and the Senate gave it to him? I posted some of his Lies during his campaign. ...

After hitting the man with his umbrella, Bill tells the police the man was assaulting him and tries to get them to arrest him! The police apparently told him you can't press charges on someone who never laid a hand on you, to which Bill was apparently outraged! After you watch that video, check out this video of Bill O'Reilly lying about this incident with an "ex-police detective" who says Bill had every right to assault the man! It's one of the most bizarre backwards interviews I've ever seen, I wonder if idiot neo-cons watching are going to go around assaulting people ...

GOProuds Outing of Rick Perry Pollster Tony Fabrizio Backfires, Outs Them Instead Posted by Lori Ziganto Earlier this week, Governor Perry released a campaign ad which contained a line about gays being able to serve in the military, but children not being allowed to pray in schools. The theme of the ad was ending President Obamas war on religion. It was, of course, met with the usual and expected responses from various quarters. Im not going to defend nor bash the ad; its neither here nor there to me. What I found most disturbing, and most telling, was GOProuds reprehensible, bullying and bigoted response to the ad. A report surfaced that ...

The Core of the Patriot Act Was Drafted in 1995
By Joe Biden Everyone knows that the Patriot Act was drafted before 9/11. But few know that it was Joe Biden who drafted the core provisions which were included in that bill
in 1995. CNET reported in 2008: Months before the Oklahoma City bombing took place, Biden introduced another bill called the Omnibus Counterterrorism Act of 1995. It previewed the 2001 Patriot Act by allowing secret evidence to be used in prosecutions, expanding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and wiretap laws, creating a new federal crime of terrorism that could be invoked based on political beliefs, permitting the U.S. military to ...
