An 80-year-old tavern owner in Englewood believes it's "unjust" that he is facing charges after shooting a burglar, but believes he will prevail in court. "It's wrong," Homer "Tank" Wright said as he walked into his bar after being released from jail this afternoon. "Unjust that I can't protect me." Awakened by his 75-year-old wife, Wright confronted a 19-year-old burglar who had broken through some plywood over a bathroom window in hopes of stealing liquor, according to police. Wright grabbed his 38.caliber pistol, loaded with four rounds, and shot the intruder in the leg. The suspect was arrested -- but so was Wright. Because of prior ...
Michigan: Hutaree Militia Members Acquitted, Conspiracy Charges Dropped In Domestic Terrorism Case Post Date: 2012-03-27 16:03:45 by Brian S

DETROIT A federal judge dismissed the most serious charges Tuesday against seven members of a Michigan militia who were rounded up as homegrown extremists accused of plotting war against the U.S., saying their expressed hatred of law enforcement didn't amount to conspiracy against the government. The decision is an embarrassment for the government, which secretly planted an informant and an FBI agent inside the Hutaree militia four years ago and claimed members were armed for war in rural southern Michigan. U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts granted requests for acquittal on the most serious charges: conspiring to commit sedition, or rebellion, against the U.S. and conspiring ...

The Art of NOT Being Governed, by James C. Scott. This book looks specifically at one region of the world in order to tell the story of anarchy anarchy in the sense of no sovereign authority able to define the law and live above the law (it is in this sense that I use the term throughout). The region the author describes is the highland area of Southeast Asia, from Vietnam west to the easternmost tip of Northeast India. The subtitle of the book is: An Anarchist History of Southeast Asia. I find this intriguing. One of many objections raised to anarchy as a means of organizing society is that of a lack of examples where anarchy has "worked" in the past. Anarchy: It ...
What Are They Hiding? Oklahoma Senate Kills Provision To Drug Test Politicians Post Date: 2012-03-27 11:27:00 by Brian S

The Oklahoma Senate has dropped legislation that would require politicians throughout the state to be drug tested along with people receiving temporary public assistance. The bill, passed by the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services on Monday, would still require applicants for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program to undergo a mandatory drug test. The Department of Human Services estimates 22,000 people in Oklahoma receive TANF benefits, which helps poor families with children pay for living expenses, including rent, heat, utilities and personal care items. Democrats in the Oklahoma House who opposed the legislation added an amendment that required anyone ...

The Left No Longer Finds Dissent Patriotic Erick Erickson Workforce Fairness is releasing a series of videos chronicling left-wing intimidation, including showing up at peoples houses to harass them and their families. Were pleased to debut the first of the videos here at RedState. The videos document a growing trend in American civic discourse the use of intimidation against private citizens to punish dissent. Listen to Media Matters For America and other outlets on the left and they claim they are outraged at Rush Limbaugh for using the word slut. Theyre OK with it when the left does it. High court throws out human gene patents Post Date: 2012-03-26 21:19:16 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court on Monday threw out a lower court ruling allowing human genes to be patented, a topic of enormous interest to cancer researchers, patients and drug makers. The court overturned patents belonging to Myriad Genetics Inc. of Salt Lake City on two genes linked to increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Myriad's BRACAnalysis test looks for mutations on the breast cancer predisposition gene, or BRCA. Those mutations are associated with much greater risks of breast and ovarian cancer. The American Civil Liberties Union has been arguing that genes couldn't be patented, a position taken by a district court judge but overturned on appeal. The ...

The Senate voted 92-4 Monday to begin an election-year floor debate over Democratic legislation to repeal oil industry tax breaks, a plan thats unlikely to ultimately pass but provides a platform for partisan warfare over gasoline prices. The procedural vote advanced Sen. Robert Menendezs (D-N.J.) plan that would raise billions of dollars by removing incentives for the largest oil-and-gas companies, and also extend several green energy and energy efficiency tax breaks. Further votes are expected later this week. Most Republicans oppose the bill but GOP members voted Monday for a motion that allows debate to proceed, a tactical move that shows they believe the fight will be ...

Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin was suspended from school because he was caught with an empty plastic bag with traces of marijuana in it, the boys family attorney has confirmed. Trayvon was killed while serving out the suspension in Sanford Florida, where his fathers girlfriend lives. A community watch volunteer who thought he looked drugged out and suspicious called police and later wound up in a fight with him. The two scuffled and volunteer George Zimmerman shot Trayvon, killing him. He has not been charged. Tens of thousands of people are expected to converge on Sanford on Monday for an afternoon rally to protest the killing, which occurred one ...
'Cracker' T-Shirt Hits Florida Streets... Post Date: 2012-03-26 13:56:37 by Brian S

Expanding the definition of cracker, a t-shirt featuring the photo of the man who shot Trayvon Martin is now available for purchase. As seen at right (click to enlarge), the shirt has a picture of George Zimmerman and the words Pussy Ass Cracker. Zimmerman, a 28-year-old Hispanic, killed Martin, 17, last month while acting as a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Florida. The shirts pussy ass cracker line is apparently a reference to lyrics from the rapper Pliess song 100 Years, which bemoans stiff sentences handed out by racist judges.

Doug Wead, a New York Times best selling author and a senior adviser for the Ron Paul presidential campaign, writes on his blog today that Alex Hayes, director of establishment Republicans in Washington State, made the claim that the Romney-Santorum-Gingrich campaigns are pushing a common slate of candidates in Washington State to block Ron Pauls campaign from taking delegates. The apparent move on the part of the Romney-Santorum-Gingrich campaigns is to block citizens favoring Ron Paul from taking over the Washington State delegation to Tampa, Wead writes. Ron Paul has gained delegates at the expense of both Romney and Santorum. States such as Missouri, where ...

(Reuters) - George Zimmerman is not a racist and cried for days after shooting dead a black Florida teenager, a black, longtime friend of Zimmerman said on Sunday in a sympathetic portrayal of a man maligned by critics as a trigger-happy bigot. Zimmerman, 28, a white Hispanic, shot Trayvon Martin, 17, in what he said was self defense during an altercation in the gated community Zimmerman was watching on February 26 in Sanford, Florida. After attracting little notice initially, the case gained widespread attention, sparking protests and renewing a national debate about race. "He couldn't stop crying. He's a caring human being," Joe Oliver, 53, a former television news ...
Trayvon Martin's ten day suspension Post Date: 2012-03-26 01:33:15 by A K A Stone

A twitter message, allegedly sent by Trayvon's older brother, suggests Trayvon was suspended for assaulting a bus driver. Trayvon Martin was on a suspension from school when he was tragically shot last February 26th. His school, Dr. Micheal M. Krop Senoir High School, has not given any details. His family has also evaded the issue. According to the Kansas City Star, the length of the suspension was ten days. This suggests a very serious offense. If Trayvon Martin was suspended for a violent act, it would alter the public's perception of the events surrounding his death. Trayvon's older brother, Stephen Martin, appears to have sent Trayvon a twitter message five days before ...

Police in Kansas City are investigating a possible hate crime after a 13-year-old boy was doused in gasoline and set on fire. According to Allen Goin’s mother, the attack occurred just as her son was getting home from school. She said, “They rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open…one of them poured gasoline, then flicked the Bic and said, ‘This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve white boy.’” The police say the boy was engulfed in a “large fireball,” but was able to beat out the flames to call 911 and his father. In addition to suffering first degree burns, he has lost his eyebrows, eyelashes, and part of the skin on his face. There is also long-term concern ...
Across The US, Black Churches Amplify The Call For Justice After Death Of Trayvon Martin Post Date: 2012-03-25 17:52:26 by Brian S

African-American community churches around the nation are amplifying the cries for justice in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Martin was shot while wearing a hooded sweatshirt as he walked home on a rainy night in a gated community. The neighborhood watch volunteer who shot him, 28-year-old George Zimmerman, is the son of a white father and Hispanic mother, and the demands to charge him in Martin's slaying have increased. In religious centers from Florida to Atlanta, New York and Chicago, many preachers and their congregations wore hooded sweatshirts in Martin's memory. But while the call continued to be for the arrest of shooter George Zimmerman, there were also ...

Why Obama's Birth Certificate Matters, Especially Now Post Date: 2012-03-25 10:41:50 by A K A Stone

There was a time when someone could perhaps justify sitting on the fence on the matter of Barack Obama's birth certificate. There were those on the left who could chalk doubts about its authenticity up to conspiratorial internet paranoia. As for the right, there was every reason to worry about being the victims of an Alinsky-style setup designed to marginalize opponents. In other words, let the other side double down on an incredible claim, and then, at the most opportune time (October surprise?), provide irrefutable evidence to the contrary and make them look like deluded wackos. So, for a long time, there might have been reason to watch, wait, and let the wheels of investigation ...
Is There An Imposter In The White House? An Excerpt from "Hope Is Not A Strategy" Post Date: 2012-03-25 09:19:27 by A K A Stone

There is something very wrong when the sitting president refuses to divulge huge pieces of information about his background. What is he hiding? Maybe the “birthers” were a little extreme, but is there something wrong with this “manufactured candidate,” whose history remains sealed from public view? What is he hiding?
Could the “Hawaii birth certificate” be a forgery? Is there something much worse—like “sponsorship” by an unnamed special interest? I don’t know. I do know that the man in the White House now is an imposter. The only question is which kind of an imposter: an incompetent “pretender” or a genuine phony, a “Manchurian candidate,” who is a liberal, ˝ black and ˝ white, and an ...

Former Vice President Dick Cheney had a heart transplant Saturday and is recovering at a Virginia hospital, his office said.
An aide to Cheney said he had been waiting for a transplant for more than 20 months and does not know the identity of the heart donor.
"Although the former vice president and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift," aide Kara Ahern said in a written statement that was authenticated by several close associates of the former vice president.
Cheney was recovering Saturday night at the Intensive Care Unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after ...
Republican Lawmaker Thinks Women Are Better Off Beaten Than Divorced Post Date: 2012-03-24 17:52:59 by Brian S

Ive had people tell me that using the phrase war on women is an exaggeration. After all, they argue, women arent in any sort of physical danger. Yes, politicians may be trying to force them into a role the mother, the wife, the stay at home caregiver that they may not entirely want, but no one is trying to literally hurt them. Wrong. Meet Wisconsin Rep. Don Pridemore. Hes best known for his avid support of Wisconsins puppy mills, but he is the co-sponsor of the bill that declares single mothers are a cause of child abuse. Pridemore apparently is positioning himself as an expert on abuse, since he also has some very helpful advice for women ...
