Denver police are investigating reports of gunfire directed toward a campaign field office for President Barack Obamas re-election campaign Friday. According to The Denver Post, there were people inside the office when a shot was fired at the building, but no one was injured. Police told KCNC-TV they do not know whether the shot was fired intentionally, or whether it was a stray bullet. Sam Levin, a reporter for the alternative newspaper Westword, posted a picture on Twitter showing one of the large windows at the front of the building had been shattered. I have zero details about what happened here, Levin wrote. But Obama 9th and Acoma campaign headquarters ...

The liberal media loved Obama to death Post Date: 2012-10-10 18:41:09 by calcon

It was in Denver one week ago that the long-running romance between Barack Obama and the national press -- aka the "Slobbering Love Affair," as Bernard Goldberg put it -- hit the wall. The motel bill, unpaid these many long months and ages, at long last came due. It had been the real thing, not a commonplace fling with your generic Democrat, but the love of a lifetime, the genuine article, the sum of all dreams: He was not just a Democrat, he was also a liberal. He was not just a liberal, he also biracial, also multinational; also hip, cool, and clever. He was themselves as they wanted to be. Like them, he was gifted at writing and talking (and, as it turned out, not much beyond ...
State officials walk fine line in explaining faulty accounts of Libya attack (Lying Liars Alert) Post Date: 2012-10-10 16:30:21 by calcon

The House panel looking to get to the bottom of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya was instead confronted Wednesday with officials walking a fine line, as they delivered the State Department's nuanced position on how the initial narrative of events -- resulting in the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans -- was so off-point. Administration officials have already acknowledged that initial claims the attack was a spontaneous reaction to protests over an anti-Islam film were wrong, and that the strike was a coordinated act of terror. But the explanation for why the incorrect narrative made its way to the public in the first place was proving difficult for ...

Jane Horton began crying on the other end of the phone when she learned that Mitt Romney had been using the story of her husband, Chris Horton, who was killed in Afghanistan, as a part of his stump speech. "Wow," the 26-year-old said. "I had no idea. "To be honest, I've been through a lot and I'm not a super emotional person but it brings me to tears," Horton said in an interview with ABC News, after being informed of her husband's newfound spot on the national stage. "Not that he's telling my story, but that he's telling my husband's story, it means the world to me. "One of the last things my husband said to me before he was ...
Benghazi consulate had only one U.S. security agent, Congress told Post Date: 2012-10-10 14:36:25 by calcon

WASHINGTON -- The former head of a 16-member U.S. military team in Libya said Wednesday the consulate in Benghazi, where the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed, never had the forces it needed to protect itself. Lt. Col. Andrew Wood told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that U.S. security was so weak that in April, only one U.S. diplomatic security agent was stationed in Benghazi. The committee hearing followed assertions Tuesday night by the State Department that it never concluded that the Sept. 11 attack stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans died in what the ...

Democrats on edge amid Obama debate fallout Post Date: 2012-10-10 13:54:53 by calcon

WASHINGTON (AP) It's more than President Barack Obama's lackluster debate performance that has some Democrats on edge a month from Election Day. Party loyalists, in Washington and in battleground states, are fretting that Obama's campaign has been slow to rebound after Republican Mitt Romney's commanding debate. They're worried that the Democratic ticket isn't aggressive enough in blocking Romney's post-debate pivot to the political center. And they fear Romney's new effort to show a softer side gives the Republican nominee an opening with female voters, who are crucial to the president's re-election prospects. "I'm not feeling very ...

Stephanie Caballero is the regional field director for Obamas Organizing For America in Houston, Texas. Former State Department security officer Eric Nordstrom will testify today to the House Oversight Committee about the security failures that led to the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi and the assassination of our Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens. Reuters got an advance look at his prepared testimony last night, and reports that not only did Nordstrom repeatedly request more security for the diplomatic mission, the State Department didnt even bother to respond to his last two requests: A U.S. security officer twice asked his State Department superiors for more security agents for the American mission in Benghazi months before an attack that killed the U.S. ...

Put this another way. When your campaign strategy loses Matt Lauer, Chris Matthews Bob Shrum, and earns four Pinocchios from the Washington Post, where exactly does that leave you? In a fine, feathered mess, thats where. Lauer interviewed Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs this morning on Today, and asked, Is that the kind of political ad that a campaign releases when it feels that it has ideas and solutions on its side, or is that the kind of political ad a campaign releases when it simply wants to get attention? As if on cue, Gibbs insists that Mitt Romney declared war on Sesame Street: Well, Id say Matt Lauer got his answer. The Washington Post ...

Records show calls for more protection in Libya, 230 'security incidents' before strike Post Date: 2012-10-09 21:41:29 by calcon

The U.S. mission in Libya recorded 230 "security incidents" over a one-year period between 2011 and 2012, according to a State Department document that provides the most expansive view yet of the concerns on the ground in the run-up to the deadly Sept. 11 consulate attack. The document was obtained by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is preparing to hold a high-profile hearing on Wednesday featuring security officers who served in Libya. One of them, Eric Nordstrom, claimed in an Oct. 1 email -- obtained by Fox News -- that he had argued for additional security, citing the "number of incidents that targeted diplomatic missions." However, ...

If youve been following the news about Benghazi, youll have two questions after watching this clip. One: Didnt we already know this? Answer: Yes, we did, but not because our government was eager for us to find out. McClatchy published an interview with a Libyan guard wounded in the attack just two days after it happened in which he claimed that there was never any protest. Four days later, Fox News was hearing the same thing from an intelligence source on the ground. Four days after that, Eli Lake of Newsweek reported that there was intelligence early on that the attack was planned and that an Al Qaeda affiliate was involved. Right around the same time, Jay ...
Romney erases Obama advantage among women in new poll Post Date: 2012-10-09 13:12:44 by calcon

Mitt Romney's post-debate surge appears to have all but wiped out President Obama's once double-digit lead among women voters. A new Pew Research Center survey depicted a remarkable swing in the numbers, with Romney pulling even among women in polling late last week. In September, the same polling outfit showed Obama leading by 18 points among women. Among all likely voters surveyed, Romney climbed from an 8-point deficit last month to a 4-point lead. There's little question that his debate performance has played a role. A separate Gallup survey showed registered voters deemed Romney the winner by 72-20 percent, marking the biggest debate victory in Gallup's recorded ...

Voters now give Mitt Romney the nod when it comes to handling national security, and he has recaptured a lead over President Obama when voters are asked who will do a better job on the economy findings that spell bad news for the incumbent. Little more than a week ago, heading into the first debate of the campaign season, Mr. Obama led on the economy and national security, as well as handling of energy, immigration and foreign affairs. In each of those categories he either topped or was just below the magic number of 50 percent support. But that changed in the latest The Washington Times/Zogby Poll conducted by Zogby Analytics, released Monday, which gave Mr. Romney a 48 percent to ...

The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45 lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October. Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing. Romney's favorables are above Obama's now. Yes, you read that right. Romney's favorables are higher than Obama's right now. That gender gap that was Obama's firewall? Over in one night: Currently, women are evenly divided (47% Obama, 47% Romney). Last month, Obama led Romney by 18 ...
Sandusky Sentenced to 30 to 60 Years in Prison Post Date: 2012-10-09 10:28:12 by Brian S

Jerry Sandusky, the ex-Pennsylvania State University assistant football coach convicted of sexually abusing children, was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison, concluding a prosecution that tarnished the schools image and led to the firing of head coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky, 68, appeared today before Common Pleas Court Judge John Cleland wearing an orange jumpsuit and white sneakers. The hearing in state court in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania came almost four months after he was found guilty of abusing 10 boys over a 15 year-period. He was convicted on 45 counts. In a recorded statement played yesterday on a college radio station, the former coach denied the charges and questioned the ...

Republican nominee Mitt Romney is giving a highly pumped-up foreign policy speech hammering President Barack Obama on the recent attacks in Libya.
Here's the full text of Romney's speech:
"I particularly appreciate the introduction from my good friend and tireless campaign companion, Gov. Bob McDonnell. He is showing what conservative leadership can do to build a stronger economy. Thank you also Congressman Goodlatte for joining us today. And particular thanks to Gen. Peay. I appreciate your invitation to be with you today at the Virginia Military Institute. It is a great privilege to be here at an Institution that has done so much for our nation, both in war and in peace.

Princeton Economist: Obama Campaign Is Misrepresenting My Study on Romney's Tax Plan (IN OTHER WORDS OBAMA IS A LIAR) Post Date: 2012-10-08 11:39:50 by A K A Stone

Last night, the Obama campaign blasted out another email claiming that Mitt Romney's tax plan would either require raising taxes on the middle class or blowing a hole in the deficit. "Even the studies that Romney has cited to claim his plan adds up still show he would need to raise middle-class taxes," said the Obama campaign press release. "In fact, Harvard economist Martin Feldstein and Princeton economist Harvey Rosen both concede that paying for Romneys tax cuts would require large tax increases on families making between $100,000 and $200,000." But that's not true. Princeton professor Harvey Rosen tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD in an email that the Obama ...

Ted Kennedy had made a thirty minute stop at the same location a couple of weeks prior. After touring the V.A. hospital, Mitt asked to look at their books. After he spent forty minutes going through their books, he told them, You run a very good place, very tight. Very good. Over the past few months I've railed against corporatism and Big Government. We've discussed how the most sophisticated financial systems (LIBOR) are a sham, and the bankers (HSBC, Jamie Dimon, Jon Corzine) with the best tailors are no better than a dark alley mugger. We've talked about how what politicians, executives, and the media call glitches, errors, snags, and snafus is actually lying, cheating, stealing, and swindling. I've shown how we as a nation have been marginalized by these powers... dumbed down, beaten up, homogenized, and forced to obey often at the end of a barrel of one of their militarized boys in blue. And I know you agree. The articles ...
