WASHINGTON Theres nothing like a natural disaster to test the depth of politicians preference for small government. And so it turns out that after after superstorm Sandy battered the East Coast, Mitt Romney is far more supportive of the government agency in charge of coordinating disaster relief. Only last year, as Romney hewed to the right while battling for the GOP nomination, he appeared to suggest in a debate that the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be shuttered and its responsibilities left to the states. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, thats the right ...
To live and die in Benghazi, Post Date: 2012-10-31 12:03:44 by calcon

What is it like to spend your last moments on earth fighting for your life? To have devoted your life, and your life's work, to a great nation -- to serve it well and honorably -- and serve for it with courage and distinction, to all come down to a last, frantic few seconds, spent defending you and your fellow Americans and call for the cavalry to come help, and no cavalry comes--and you die. This is what the two former Navy SEALs, under the employment of CIA, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, faced in their final moments in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. It is not a question of could we have sent forces in to help.We could. We could have sent forces to help as they were within a few ...

MANTOLOKING, N.J. (AP) A fire has broken out in a New Jersey shore town that was hit hard by Sandy. Video from WNBC-TV in New York shows flames reaching in the sky over Mantoloking. There's a large cluster of flames and smaller fires spread out from it. It's not clear what's burning. The small town, which sits between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay, suffered severe damage during the storm. Some of the destructive waters have receded in New Jersey's Toms River and the heavy lifting has begun. Using boats, and trucks, rescuers dragged about 200 stranded people to safety away from the waterlogged town and the devastated barrier islands. But many of those ...

Power companies raced to assess damage, clear trees and begin restoring electricity to more than 6.1 million people left without electricity by super-storm Sandys passage through the eastern U.S., warning some blackouts may persist through next week. As winds calmed and flood waters receded yesterday, utilities mobilized tens of thousands of workers from as far away as California and Canada to start repairs. FirstEnergy Corp. (FE) crews hovered in helicopters to trace fallen power lines in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while Consolidated Edison Inc. (ED) workers in New York used household fans to dry equipment at a 14th Street substation inundated by record floods a day earlier. ...

When Local 6 asked the senator what he thought the key factors are this election year, Hurricane Sandy was not on the list. Paul said, "We've got 23 million people out of work, not looking for work and we've got gas prices that have doubled and we've added $6 trillion to the debt trying to stimulate the economy with government ...

On Monday, U.S. military officials denied claims from a Washington Times blog that Gen. Carter Ham, former head of U.S. Africa command, may have been fired due to an intent to disobey defense secretary Leon Panetta's order to "stand down" while the Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi were underway. This story is gathering steam as Charlie Woods, father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, went on the Glenn Beck show this past weekend to claim that President Barack Obama had shown no remorse for his son's death during their meeting. (YouTube Video) Over the weekend, a source inside the Pentagon informed Times reporter James Robbins that Gen. Ham wanted to send special forces units to ...

WASHINGTON, D.C. President Obama will travel to New Jersey tomorrow to view the destruction wrought by Hurricane Sandy on the state. Scheduled to appear with Governor Chris Christie, Obama has suspended personal appearances at campaign events to respond to the storm. Speaking at the Red Cross headquarters in Washington today, Obama said his thoughts and prayers were with those who lost loved ones in the devastating hurricane, which has claimed at least ten lives in New York City alone. Obviously this is something that is heartbreaking for the entire nation, he said, And we certainly feel profoundly for all of the families whose lives have been upended, and are ...

NEW YORK | Tue Oct 30, 2012 2:18pm EDT (Reuters) - Millions of people were left reeling in the aftermath of monster storm Sandy on Tuesday as New York City and a wide swathe of the eastern United States struggled with epic flooding and massive power outages. The death toll climbed to at least 30. Sandy, which crashed ashore with hurricane-force winds in New Jersey overnight as the biggest storm to hit the country in generations, swamped parts of New York's subway system and Manhattan's Wall Street district, closing financial markets for a second day. As the weakened but still sprawling storm system continued its trek inland, more than 1 million people in a dozen states along its ...

*** MASSIVE VOTER SUPRESSION***** Post Date: 2012-10-30 12:35:31 by calcon

I have uncovered a massive case of voter suppression that is sweeping the democratic strongholds throughout the nation. The culprit is the republican generated storm referred to as hurricane Sandy. Romney through a coalition of the mormon church, bain capital, the Illuminati have construed a weather machine to suppress democratic voters. They know it would have been easier just to post a help wanted sign outside of the polling places but they wanted to be more subtle. Of course, i could be wrong and god has just grown tired of the libs or perhaps the mormons have been right all along. I know one thing, i won't be going to frisco this week. BTW, nothing pisses these bay area douches ...
Abortion advocacy hurts Obama in swing states Post Date: 2012-10-30 12:33:06 by A K A Stone

President Obama's support for abortion and taxpayer funded birth control could kill his chances to win swing voters in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin and Florida, and possibly his reelection, according to a new poll. Likely voters by a 49 percent to 25 percent margin, or two-to-one, say they are less likely to vote for Obama because he included taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare. A whopping 54 percent are less likely to back him due to his vote against a law to give equal treatment to babies born alive after a failed abortion. And 69 percent reject the administration's mandate that forces faith-based institutions to provide insurance that covers birth control. "This survey ...
Gallup: Romney +7 in Early Voting Post Date: 2012-10-30 12:25:02 by calcon

I honestly thought that Democrats had the edge on early voting since theyve been pushing it so hard. But according to Gallups polling, Romneys up 7: Romney Leads Among Early Voters, Similar to His Likely Voter Lead Thus far, early voters do not seem to be swaying the election toward either candidate. Romney currently leads Obama 52% to 45% among voters who say they have already cast their ballots. However, that is comparable to Romneys 51% to 46% lead among all likely voters in Gallups Oct. 22-28 tracking polling. At the same time, the race is tied at 49% among those who have not yet voted but still intend to vote early, suggesting these voters could cause ...

The presidential candidates have canceled all campaign events on Tuesday, but Republican New Jersey Chris Christie seemed to be stumping for President Barack Obama by appearing several networks to praise the federal response to Hurricane Sandy. In an interview on NBC, Christie called Obama outstanding for expediting relief efforts. He also told MSNBC that Obama deserves great credit. He gave me his number at the White House and told me to call him if I needed anything, Christie said. The New Jersey governor even took his message to Fox News, saying that Obama had helped tremendously. I spoke to the president three times ...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Much of New York was plunged into darkness Monday by a superstorm that overflowed the city's historic waterfront, flooded the financial district and subway tunnels and cut power to nearly a million people. The city had shut its mass transit system, schools, the stock exchange and Broadway and ordered hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to leave home to get out of the way of the superstorm Sandy as it zeroed in on the nation's largest city. Residents spent much of the day trying to salvage normal routines, jogging and snapping pictures of the water while officials warned the worst of the storm had not hit. By evening, a record 13-foot storm surge was threatening ...
Seawater Flooding Subway Tunnels; NYC Subways Could Be Crippled For Days Post Date: 2012-10-29 21:52:44 by Brian S

UPDATED | Floodwaters rushed through Lower Manhattan on Monday night, inundating subway and automotive tunnels and likely forcing a prolonged shutdown of New York Citys mass-transit system. No clear estimate was available, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority did not provide a timetable for reopening the subways. But the extent of flooding and the height of the storm surge appeared likely to meet or exceed the level of a 1992 noreaster that forced the temporary closure of subway tunnels for both the MTA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The likelihood of damage to underground infrastructure from a wave of corrosive saltwater made the chance of a quick ...

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is stepping in to the Indiana Senate race to defend Republican Richard Mourdock, who ignited a firestorm Tuesday when he said that pregnancies caused by rape are "something God intended to happen." A top Paul advisor told Business Insider that the Senator's political action committee, RAND PAC, is making a "six-figure" media buy in Indiana and plans to go on air Friday with an ad attacking Mourdock's Democratic opponent Joe Donnelly for voting against a bill that would have blocked foreign aid to Pakistan. According to the advisor, the ad will be similar to one that RAND PAC ran in Missouri earlier this month to support Republican ...

WASHINGTON - Almost everyone in Washington, D.C. has boarded up and hunkered down Monday afternoon as Hurricane Sandy began to pound the Mid-Atlantic. Almost everyone. Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, assigned to stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, were still on-duty as wind and rain lashed the area. Despite the worsening weather conditions, soldiers remained to guard the tomb, which has been guarded continuously since 1948. As of this time, there are no plans to remove the guards from their posts.
