Election's Over -- So Obama's FEMA now says drop dead

They fly into disaster areas, but flee from raindrops. FEMA disaster recovery centers in Hurricane Sandy-ravaged sections of the city that were supposed to provide assistance to hurricane victims went MIA Wednesday morning, posting signs saying that they were closed due to the approaching Nor'easter. The temporary shuttering of the facilities, which help victims register for disaster relief, as well as city food distribution centers come even as many of those still reeling from the monster storm were not told that they had to leave the battered areas. On Tuesday, Mayor Bloomberg said that residents in the low-lying portions of Staten Island and the Rockaways were advised to leave ...

Did Inflammatory Remarks About Rape and Abortion Doom GOP Candidates?

Candidates who sparked controversy during campaign season didn't fare so well in this election. The campaign season of 2012 was littered with gaffes by politicians. A number of pro-life candidates made some very public, roundly rebuked remarks about rape and a woman's right to abortion—and drew the ire of voters of both genders and on both sides of the political spectrum. And while at first it seemed that some of these candidates would be able to survive their unpopular remarks, now that the results are in, it's clear that nearly all of them did not. Todd Akin (Republican; U.S. Representative for Missouri's 2nd congressional district, running for U.S. Senate seat) ...

Election 2012: Ron Paul’s Revenge!

What’s particularly nervy — galling, really — about the idea that the US ought to be spreading our democratic system across the globe is the fact that we don’t have anything close to democracy in this country. Nor do we have what the Founders intended to create: a republic, where the power of the state is limited by the Constitution. This is underscored every time Americans go to the polls, where they are confronted with “choices” determined by lawmakers whose chief interest in life is getting reelected with as little opposition as possible. These guardians of the polity have made it virtually impossible for so-called third parties — i.e. parties not ...

Several 'Ron Paul Republicans' win closely contested House races

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul will retire from Congress next year after serving for 12 terms, but several Republicans influenced by the iconic libertarian-leaning lawmaker will be arriving to take his place. Thomas Massie won the race to replace retiring Kentucky Republican Rep. Geoff Davis, beating Democrat Bill Adkins by 20 percentage points. Massie, an ally of Paul’s son, Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, raised nearly 10 times as much money as Adkins, according to the Lexington-Herald Leader. Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash, who was already vying to be the House’s next “Dr. No” in his first term, was re-elected with 58 percent of the vote. Democrat Steve ...

ABC News Projects Massachusetts Will Elect Democrat Elizabeth Warren to U.S. Senate Over Incumbent Republican Scott Brown

ABC News projects that Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic Senate candidate in Massachusetts, will win her race, picking off a Republican seat for the Democrats in the battle for control of the Senate. Billed as one of the most important races in the fight to control the Democratic-led Senate, the contest pitted Warren against Sen. Scott Brown, the incumbent who shocked the political establishment in 2010 with his victory in a special election to fill the seat that the late Sen. Ted Kennedy held for 47 years. Sen. Sherrod Brown victorious in Ohio despite onslaught of outside spending

Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio defeated his Republican challenger Josh Mandel on Tuesday night. The Democratic senator faced an onslaught of outside campaign spending from conservative groups like Crossroads GPS, which spent more than $6 million on the Ohio race. The race was dominated by outside spending for both candidates. More than $16.6 million was spent to oppose Brown, while only about $2.2 million was spent in his favor. Mandel also faced $11.1 million in outside campaign spending, nearly half of that came from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Click for Full Text! House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's California home was burglarized on Monday, according to the U.S. Capitol Police and the Napa County Sheriff's Office.. Napa County officers responded just before 3 p.m. Monday after being contacted by an alarm company monitoring Pelosi's home near St. Helena, about 60 miles north of San Francisco. They found two broken doors – one to the house and one to an adjacent pool house – Capt. Tracey Stuart of the Napa County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday in a phone interview. No one was home at the time of the break-in, Stuart said, and it was not immediately clear what, if anything, was stolen. ~snip~

The Washington Post published an interesting editorial yesterday, entitled "What kind of president would Obama be in second term?" I have my own thoughts, but let's take a quick look at this article, which provides us with a serious, even scholarly, set of questions and prognostications. At the end of this editorial, I'll provide an action point that people can take advantage of regarding the election. But first, we'll review how Obama and his challenger, Mitt Romney, might act if in power over the next four years. The Post article is a great jumping-off place. The article begins by pointing out that even if people think they know who Barack Obama is and what he ...

In-person, early voting numbers down from 2008 in Cuyahoga County

CLEVELAND - The door has officially shut on early voting in Ohio, while we won’t know the results of those early ballots until shortly after the polls close at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, we can look at the numbers to see who voted and who hasn’t. First off, fewer people voted early in-person in Cuyahoga County this year compared to four years ago, off about 9,000 votes or 16.6 percent. While much has been made about the reduced hours and lost weekend voting this year, the numbers remained on a pace ahead of 2008 heading into the final week, but trailed off dramatically over the last seven days. Weather no doubt a factor with the remnants of Superstorm Sandy drenching northeast Ohio ...

Robotic assassination campaigns directed from the Oval Office. Cyber espionage programs launched at the president's behest. Surveillance on an industrial scale. The White House already has an incredible amount of power to monitor and take out individuals around the globe. But a new wave of technologies, just coming online, could give those powers a substantial upgrade. No matter who wins the election on Tuesday, the next president could have an unprecedented ability to monitor and end lives from the Oval Office. The current crop of sensors, munitions, control algorithms, and data storage facilities have helped make the targeted killing of American adversaries an almost routine affair. ...

Gary Johnson: Obama will win (Gary Johnson has already given up)
Post Date: 2012-11-05 23:01:32 by A K A Stone

Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson said Monday he thinks President Barack Obama will defeat Mitt Romney to win a second term. “I think Obama’s going to win, that’s what I think,” Johnson told POLITICO in an interview. “[My vote is] really spread out, meaning I don’t think there’s any state that I’m going to do better than another.” Johnson, who’s on the ballot in 48 states and the District of Columbia, hovers in single digits in the polls. The former two-term New Mexico governor declined to single out any state where he expected to do particularly well but said he had no regrets about how he ran his campaign. ...

APWith three days to go until Election Day, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released today shows President Barack Obama maintaining his advantage over Mitt Romney when it comes to the electoral college map.Nationally, the poll shows the race virtually deadlocked, with Obama holding a slight lead over Romney among likely voters, 48% to 47%. But results from Ipsos' tracking in the swing states shows Obama with an edge in several crucial battlegrounds — including Ohio, whose 18 electoral college votes are considered critical to either candidates' path to 270 electoral votes.According to the survey, Obama leads Romney among Ohio's likely voters, 48% to 46%. A nor’easter may bring gusty winds, heavy rain and even snow this week across much of the U.S. East Coast that was hit by Hurricane Sandy last week. Winds of 45 to 55 miles (72 to 89 kilometers) per hour are expected to accompany coastal flooding and precipitation in New Jersey as the storm moves up the coast from Nov. 7 to 9, according to Mitchell Gaines, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. “This nor’easter will have greater impact than usual because of the impacts of coastal storm Sandy,” Gaines said by telephone. “It’s another storm on top of an area that really doesn’t need another storm.” The winds from ...

Ron Paul is an Official Write-In Candidate in California and Other States
Post Date: 2012-11-04 23:43:32 by Hondo68

Ron Paul will be a certified write-in candidate for president in California. Official write-in status means Ron Paul's write-in votes will be counted just as if he were on the ballot in that state. Paul supporters have met the requirements put forth by the California Secretary of State. The write-in ticket also includes Judge Andrew Napolitano for vice president. Paul supporters argue that the winner of Tuesday's presidential election is certain to be one of two candidates who both support the indefinite military detention of US citizens (NDAA,) sanctions and possible strikes on Iran, the continuing bail-outs of major banks which could wind up costing US taxpayers as much as $23 ...

Obama's lead widens among LGBT voters, reports Harris/Logo TV survey

A follow-up poll conducted online in the United States by Harris Interactive, on behalf of Logo TV, shows that LGBT voters remain firmly on the side of supporting President Barack Obama for re-election. In the days following the last of the presidential debates, Obama’s 44-point lead among LGBT voters in August expanded to 52 points by late October, reported Harris Interactive. According to the survey, Obama’s increased support among LGBT voters does not stem from an uptick in views that he is the pro-LGBT candidate. Rather, it appears likely that having already established himself as a trusted ally on LGBT issues, LGBT voters who were initially unsure of their vote were open ...

White Working-Class Voters Expanding Presidential Battleground Map

I’ve got to admit, it’s somewhat comical to watch the debate over polls that regularly takes place on Twitter. Partisans on both sides are questioning samples, methodology, and each other. And while they’re obsessing over the minute details of often-questionable polling, they’re missing the fundamental story of this election: President Obama is on track to perform at a historically low level among white voters, and he needs to compensate by attracting overwhelming support from minorities, along with a big turnout by them. The story is the same no matter which poll is your personal favorite. Pew, one of the most respected in the business, showed Obama winning only 37 ...

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, “Fewer than 200 people showed up to watch Wonder perform a handful of his hits at the early voting event in support of President Barack Obama.” The Washington Post reports that the crowd was only 50. The Plain Dealer added that Obama for America Ohio tweeted its 34,000 follower about the event shortly before Wonder took the stage at 10:30. Even though there was a shuttle bus standing by, Steve Wonder’s performance reportedly did not motivate anyone in attendance to actually head to the polls. ” ‘I do a song. You go vote. You come back. We do some more music,’ [Wonder] said before opening with ‘Sir Duke.’ ...
