Panda blood compound 6x more powerful than current antibiotics Post Date: 2013-01-01 17:32:58 by A K A Stone

In what could be either very good news or very bad news for our fluffy black and white friends, it's been discovered that panda blood contains an antibiotic compound that's vastly more powerful than anything we've got right now. Researchers at the Life Sciences College of Nanjing Agricultural University in China have extracted a compound called cathelicidin-AM from the blood of giant pandas. Cathelicidin-AM is what's called a gene-encoded antimicrobial peptide, a natural antibiotic that's produced by a panda's immune cells. Testing has shown that cathelicidin-AM can kill even drug resistant strains of bacteria and fungi, and it can do in one hour what conventional ...

Obama hopes to enact new gun-control measures in 2013 President Obama on Sunday said he would make gun control a priority in his new term, pledging to put his full weight behind passing new restrictions on firearms in 2013. I'm going to be putting forward a package and I'm going to be putting my full weight behind it, Obama said in an interview aired on NBCs Meet the Press. I'm going to be making an argument to the American people about why this is important and why we have to do everything we can to make sure that something like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary does not happen again. In the wake of the Dec. 14 ...

An animal rights group will pay Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus $9.3 million to settle its part of a lawsuit stemming from claims the circus abused its elephants. The circus company's owners announced the settlement with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Friday. The animal rights group was one of several that in 2000 sued the circus' owner, Feld Entertainment Inc., claiming elephants were abused. Courts later found that the animal rights activists had paid a former Ringling employee to bring the lawsuit and that the man didn't have the right to sue the circus. The Vienna, Va.-based Feld Entertainment then sued the animal rights ...

Privacy Concerns Surface with Government Plan to Install “Black Box” Monitors in All New Cars Post Date: 2012-12-27 23:23:55 by A K A Stone

Federal safety regulators want all new cars installed with so-called black boxes, similar to those on airplanes, to help the government and auto manufacturers learn valuable lessons from accidents on the road. But the idea has stirred concerns among consumer groups and civil libertarians who fear the data in the black boxes might be used inappropriately unless legal safeguards are established. Under a new rule (pdf) proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), carmakers would be required to equip all new vehicles with event data recorders (EDRs) starting in September 2014. Some new automobiles already have a black box, although their ...
Google Hired A Man Who Believes He Will Bring His Father Back To Life Post Date: 2012-12-27 22:48:50 by A K A Stone

A lot of what they build in Silicon Valley these days is pretty mundane: sexting apps, social games, and new ways to "share" things over the Internet. So it's pretty exciting when you hear about someone who has some really crazy ideas for what the future might hold. One such person is a new Google hire named Ray Kurzweil. The geeks among you already know who he is. But I only learned about him from a Bloomberg BusinessWeek story by Ashlee Vance. In it, Vance writes about Kurzweil's plans to
Bring his dead father back to life.
Help humanity live long enough to live forever and "transcend biology."

WASHINGTON (AP) Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who topped an illustrious military career by commanding the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991 but kept a low public profile in controversies over the second Gulf War against Iraq, died Thursday. He was 78. Schwarzkopf died in Tampa, Fla., where he had lived in retirement, according to a U.S. official, who was not authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. A much-decorated combat soldier in Vietnam, Schwarzkopf was known popularly as "Stormin' Norman" for a notoriously explosive temper. He served in his last ...

Chicago Tribune, Six Other Papers Drop Associated Press Though widely claimed, the ownership of both AP and Reuters by the Family Rothschilds could not be proven to my satisfaction. Both sources are the basis of media cover ups and government lies. CNN has also dropped AP but not FOX News. The Chicago Tribune has announced that starting in January, the Chicago-based paper and several other Tribune-owned papers will be dropping the Associated Press as its chief wire service. Along with the Chicago paper, six other Tribune-owned papers will also be dropping the AP. Those papers are the Baltimore Sun; the Orlando Sentinel; the South Florida Sun-Sentinel; the Hartford Courant; the Morning ...
Tea party stays on the sidelines as Obama, Republicans in Congress tackle fiscal cliff Post Date: 2012-12-26 15:51:35 by Jasmine

The tea party movement has been nearly invisible in the intensive lobbying campaign over the fiscal cliff, even as Congress and the White House debate the issues of government spending and national debt that are at the core of the movements identity. In many ways, the tea party was made for this moment. The grass-roots opposition to President Obamas agenda that arose in 2009 has been so focused on fiscal concerns that leaders once prevented speakers at tea party rallies from even discussing abortion and other social issues. And in fact, it is the tea party that helped bring the country to this moment. The automatic spending cuts at the heart of the year-end fiscal ...

Richard Adams, who nearly four decades ago legally married his male partner in Colorado and, in the first lawsuit of its kind, tried unsuccessfully to have their marriage recognized by the federal government, died on Dec. 17 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 65. In April 1975, Mr. Adams and his partner, Tony Sullivan, wed in Colorado, one of a half-dozen gay couples granted marriage licenses there by the Boulder County clerks office. Though Boulder County stopped issuing such licenses almost immediately, the couples marriage, which lasted until Mr. Adamss death, was never legally voided. Their case, in which a marriage between same-sex partners is recognized on the ...

Definitely an interesting, if not controversial, invention for the field of law enforcement, a new set of handcuffs delivers electric shocks like a taser. Covered in detail on Patent Bolt recently, a patent application for an advanced set of handcuffs was published by the U.S. Patent & Trademark office during late November 2012. Filed by a group called Scottsdale Inventions during late 2010, technology that could potentially go into the handcuff design includes an accelerometer, a location sensing device, a microphone; a camera and a biometric sensor to measure a detainees physical state. However, the group has also designed the handcuffs to house electrodes that would deliver ...

Agenda 21 Is Being Rammed Down The Throats Of Local Communities All Over America Post Date: 2012-12-24 09:50:57 by A K A Stone

Have you ever heard of Agenda 21? If not, don't feel bad, because most Americans haven't. It is essentially a blueprint for a "sustainable world" that was introduced at the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. Since then, it has been adopted by more than 200 counties and it has been modified and updated at other UN environmental summits. The philosophy behind Agenda 21 is that our environmental problems are the number one problem that we are facing, and that those problems are being caused by human activity. Therefore, according to Agenda 21 human activity needs to be tightly monitored, regulated and controlled for the greater ...

Police in Alexandria, Va., said Sunday that the Idaho Republican was pulled over after his vehicle ran a red light. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. without incident. He was transported to the Alexandria jail and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about 5 a.m.. "There was no refusal (to take sobriety tests), no accident, no injuries," Donaldson said. "Just a traffic stop that resulted in a DUI." Donaldson ...

I dont think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, I need an assault weapon to go hunting, Cuomo said, according to the New York Times. There is a balance here I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters. Cuomo indicated the state will likely force some kind of permit process on owners of semi-automatic assault weapons. In addition to generating revenue and expanding the size and reach of government, the effort will allow the state to confiscate the weapons of citizens who do not comply. Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an ...

Eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them Gun Free Zones are supposed to protect our children, and some politicians wish to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms. Those same politicians and their families are currently under the protection of armed Secret Service agents. If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children, then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/eliminate-armed-guards-president-vice-president-and-their-families-and-establish-gun-free-zones/6RDGkxLK

What everyone must understand is that American politics doesn't work the way you'd think it would. Most people presume that government officials would never willfully withhold penicillin from men with syphilis just to see what would happen if the disease went untreated. It seems unlikely that officers would coerce enlisted men into exposing themselves to debilitating nerve gas. Few expected that President Obama wouldpreside over the persecution of an NSA whistle-blower, or presume the guilt of all military-aged males killed by U.S. drone strikes. But it all happened. Really thinking about all that may make it easier to believe what I'm about to tell you. It may seem like ...
Invention: Exploding ink Post Date: 2012-12-23 10:50:43 by A K A Stone

A very unusual ink-jet printer cartridge, containing explosive ink, has been patented by Qinetiq, the commercial spin-off of the British Ministry of Defence. The ink is a mixture of very fine aluminium particles, each 1 micrometre in diameter, particles of copper oxide 5 micrometres wide, epoxy varnish and alcohol. The ink is stable in liquid form, making it safe to print onto conventional paper, but forms an explosive fuse once dry. An engineer can easily sketch out a printable fuse using computer imaging software, modifying the delay in milliseconds by changing the length, thickness and pattern of the line on the paper. The ink can then be printed between a small strip of metal and a ...

A Harris County gun shop owner received a letter Saturday threatening him, his family and his employees. "Live by the gun. Die by the gun. You will not live to see Easter," reads the typed letter that was mailed Thursday in Houston and arrived Saturday at Jim Pruett's Guns & Ammo. Jim Pruett was photographed and quoted in the Houston Chronicle last week saying that restricting sales of military-style arms wouldn't prevent tragedies like the Connecticut massacre. "All it's going to do is make it difficult for law-abiding citizens to get the best protection they can for their home against, especially in Texas, gangs motivated by the drug cartel," Pruett ...

EAGnews.org: Former President Obama grillout buddy and self-described communist Bill Ayers came out this month to discuss how leftists can mold America to their liking: through access to schools. Ayers is famous for, in 1969, helping found Weather Underground, a self-described communist revolutionary group that bombed public buildings including police stations, the Pentagon, and the U.S. Capitol to provoke social unrest. Ayers also directed a school that allowed no grades or report cards in an effort to discourage competition. A 1973 book Ayers coauthored was dedicated to Sirhan Sirhan, the convicted assassin of Robert Kennedy. He has spoken and written frequently on education and ...
