A worker at the Dollar General Store in Wrightsville was arrested Thursday and charged with spanking a customer's child with a belt. Wrightsville Police Chief Paul Sterling said he had never encountered a case like this before. Sterling says he and an investigator went to the Dollar General Store after receiving a call from the child's father that his son had been spanked by a store worker with a belt. Apparently, the 8-year-old boy was running around the store and got into a confrontation with 39-year-old Emilia Graciela Bell. Bell told investigators the boy threw a cookie at her and that's when she removed her belt, chased the boy down and spanked him behind the counter. ...

The Transfer of Public Lands Act is sponsored by Rep. Yvette Herrell, R-Alamogordo, and Sen. Richard C. Martinez, D-Espanola. In a prepared statement, Herrell said New Mexico has a rich history of farming, ranching, hunting, fishing and oil drilling. The video starring President George W. Bush's black Scottish terrier was a hit, drawing 24 million online tourists the first day. It also helped reopen the White House after it was closed to tourists the previous holiday season following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Rand Paul: No fighter jets, tanks for Egypt Post Date: 2013-02-01 08:56:51 by A K A Stone

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul sought Thursday to block the transfer of F-16 fighter jets and Abrams tanks to Egypt.
“I think it particularly unwise to send tanks and our most sophisticated fighter planes to Egypt at a time when many are saying the country may be unraveling,” Paul said on the Senate floor.
Lockheed Martin shipped 20 F-16s to Egypt last year while General Dynamics signed a contract to deliver parts for 125 Abrams M1A1 tanks to be manufactured in Egypt the year before, the New York Times reported.
U.S. aid to Egypt has been controversial since the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak and the ascendancy of the Muslim Brotherhood under new President Mohamed Morsi. But ...

Edward I. Mr. Kochs spokesman, George Arzt, said the former mayor died at 2 a.m. from congestive heart failure. He was being treated at New York-Presbyterian Columbia Hospital. Mr. Koch had experienced coronary and other medical problems since leaving office in 1989. But he had been in relatively good health despite or perhaps because of his whirlwind life as a television judge, radio talk-show host, ...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Monday that he is opposed to potential executive action by President Barack Obama on the issue of gun violence, calling such a move monarchical. "I'm against having a king," Paul told CBN News. "I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress -- that's someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch." Vice President Joe Biden, the leader of Obama's task force on gun violence, suggested last week that the president would be willing to take executive action to address the matter. At a press conference Monday, Obama confirmed Biden's ...

(Reuters) - A Manhattan federal judge refused to block a New York City regulation requiring people who perform circumcisions and use their mouths to draw away blood from the wound on a baby's penis to first obtain written consent from the parents. U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald on Thursday refused to issue a preliminary injunction against the change to the city's health code, which some members of the city's Orthodox Jewish communities called an unwarranted government intrusion on religious freedom. In September, the New York City Board of Health voted to require mohels, who perform circumcisions, to obtain advance consent that tells parents about the risk of a ...

Piers Morgan isnt the only CNN host pushing a ban on semi-automatic guns. Fareed Zakaria hammered anomalous U.S. gun laws on Thursday afternoon and pointed to other countries for the strict gun control that America should strive for. And I think that Sandy Hook has been a huge turning point and there is a shift of consciousness. We are becoming more aware of just how anomalous the U.S. is, said the host of CNNs foreign affairs show Fareed Zakaria GPS. So the real challenge here is going to be to take this shift in national consciousness and actually drive it through to make it a shift in policy. Whats the policy Zakaria ...

(NaturalNews) As of the time of this writing, if you search on Google for the URL of the United Way Sandy Hook fundraising page (see instructions, below), you will get a Google search result saying the page was created on December 11, 2012. What's so odd about that? The Sandy Hook shooting took place three days later, on December 14, 2012. If your head is suddenly ringing with shouts of "conspiracy theory!" you're not alone. This kind of news immediately sets off red flags with most people, including myself. "Is this for REAL?" I found myself asking when I first saw this. So I grabbed a screen shot from Google search results, and you can see that below. Yep, ...

Speaking on The Andrea Tantaros Show with Jason Mattera, which debuted this week, the Kentucky Republican said that while he hasnt ruled a presidential run in 2016 in or out, the GOP is going to have to turn to somebody like him to win enough voters to beat a Democrat. We are going to have to have somebody a little bit different than weve had in the past, he told Tantaros on the show that replaced the Laura Ingraham Show on ...

Do You Live in a “Death Spiral” State? Post Date: 2013-01-06 11:14:00 by A K A Stone

Three years ago, I put together a Moocher Index that measured the degree to which non-poor people in a state were benefiting from redistribution programs. As you can see if you click on the nearby table, Vermont was the worst state, followed by Mississippi, Maine, New York, and Massachusetts. I confessed that my Moocher Index was a crude and imprecise tool, but it was one of my most popular posts in the early days of this blog. Probably because it was a way of measuring the degree to which people were being lured to ride in the wagon of government dependency (a very disturbing trend put in visual form by these two cartoons). So I was very interested when I found that somebody ...
