(CNN) -- Former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, a pediatric surgeon turned public health advocate, died Monday. He was 96. Koop served as surgeon general from 1982 to 1989, under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. He was outspoken on controversial public health issues and did much to raise the profile the office of the surgeon general. He died peacefully at his home in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth College said in a news release announcing his death. "Dr. Koop did more than take care of his individual patients -- he taught all of us about critical health issues that affect our larger society," said Dartmouth President Carol L. Folt. "Through that ...

Barack Obama’s war on America’s fresh water supply: China is buying up Lake Michigan’s water

Barack Obama is keeping his promise to lower the sea levels, and he’s starting with the drought plagued Midwest where Lake Michigan water is being shipped by the boat loads over to China! By using a little known loophole in the 2006 Great Lakes Compact, Obama minions are allowing Nestle Company to export precious fresh water out of Lake Michigan to the tune of an estimated $500,000 to $1.8 million per day profit. By draining the precious jewel of the Great Lakes in the middle of America, our federal water managers are allowing the export of our water out of our country across thousands of miles of oceans into the Asian basin plagued by huge population centers who are suffering from ...

The Debate We Have to Win, Otherwise We Lose the Country

Recently a discussion of this story about DC Comics being pressured by homosexual activists to fire one of its writers because he’s on the board of the National Organization of Marriage prompted vigorous debate on my Facebook wall. While perusing through the various comments, it was obvious there still exists much confusion in our country today about the term “rights.” There are two types of rights: unalienable and contractual. Sometimes referred to as a natural right (i.e. “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” reference from The Declaration of Independence), an unalienable right is a right that comes from God and thus can be accessed in your natural state ...

Man charged with felony in Obama mural defacing

A suspect has been charged in a recent defacing of a mural of President Barack Obama near a popular midtown restaurant. Michael Dale Kroetsch, 58, was charged Friday with felony criminal mischief in the 339th State District Court. He was not in custody late Friday afternoon, Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon said. The charge against Kroetsch stems from an incident in the early hours of Jan. 28, in which someone defaced the larger-than-life mural with paint. Surveillance video of that incident helped lead police to file charges against Kroetsch, Cannon said. It was the second act of vandalism against the mural, which is on a building at Alabama and Travis, across the ...

Blame Jane: Ted Turner's son says Fonda made dad a lib

Teddy Turner, son of billionaire media mogul Ted Turner and Republican candidate for Congress, said his father’s marriage to Jane Fonda prompted his major left turn. “I was raised in a different time at the Turner household … a very conservative household with capitalism and all of that kind of stuff,” the younger Turner told Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.” Teddy Turner is running for Congress in South Carolina, where he faces former Gov. Mark Sanford in a Republican primary. His platform includes opposition to taxes and same-sex marriage and he is a global warming skeptic – all positions his father does not share. “Yes, I’m ...

Rand Paul Introduces Sequester Bill

Not only is Senator Rand Paul (R., Ky.) calling out the Obama administration’s “dishonest” doom-mongering on the sequester, he also put forward his own plan, released today, to replace the impending cuts with alternative savings, and to do so “without layoffs,” according to a release from the senator’s office. Paul’s bill would reduce federal spending by more than $85 billion annually by directing the government to: Stop Hiring New Federal Employees ($6.5 billion per year) More than 60,000 people left the federal workforce in 2011. This provision would end the practice of hiring new employees to replace them. Bring Federal-Employee Pay in Line with ...

Rand Paul fears ‘hellfire missiles’ in U.S.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) wants one thing before he’ll allow the confirmation of John Brennan as CIA Director to go forward; he wants assurances “someone eating at a cafe in Boston or New York” won’t have “a Hellfire missile [come] raining in on them,” he said Friday on Fox News. The libertarian scion sent a letter to Brennan’s office at the White House Wednesday asking if the administration has the power to order a lethal drone strike on an American citizen within U.S. borders. Until he gets an answer, Paul has pledged to use “every procedural option at my disposal to delay your confirmation and bring added scrutiny to this issue and the ...

Recent Polls Suggest Calling Someone a Republican is an Insult.

Breaking News: Recent polls suggest the majority of Americans consider being called “Republican” insulting. The independent political polling company NSON Opinion Strategy [1] recently published the results of a case study in which 250,000 randomly selected American voters were asked a series of questions. The details of how and where the study was conducted have yet to be released but the results are clear: 87% of Americans consider the word “Republican” to be synonymous with greed, racism, and violence. Perhaps if the GOP really wants to reinvent themselves they will have to start with a new name.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is returning $600,000 to the U.S. Treasury, money he said he saved through frugally operating his Senate office in the past year. “It’s the only budget I control. ... It’s not enough, but it’s a start,” Paul said at a news conference Wednesday near Fourth and Liberty streets in downtown Louisville. The $600,000, which amounts to about 17 percent of Paul’s $3.5 million office budget, was in addition to about $500,000 he saved two years ago, his first year in the Senate, Paul said. He said the savings were realized by “watching every purchase,” including keeping close tabs on expenditures for “computers, paper, ink ...

SANFORD — Shellie Zimmerman appeared in court Tuesday afternoon and sat silently as a judge refused to dismiss the perjury charge against her. Zimmerman is the wife of George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who's accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, in Sanford one year ago. According to prosecutors, Shellie Zimmerman lied at her husband's April 20 bond hearing when she testified that the couple had no money. In truth, they were awash in cash, according to the couple's financial records. During the previous two weeks, more than $130,000 had come flooding in from online donors contributing to George Zimmerman's defense. ...

Texas parents agree not to pressure teen to have abortion

(CNN) -- The parents of a 16-year-old, pregnant Texas girl agreed Monday in a state court not to coerce her to have an abortion, an anti-abortion group representing the girl said. "We just achieved an agreed order," Stephen Casey, a lawyer and founder of The Texas Center for Defense of Life, told CNN in a telephone interview. "They agreed to it, signed it and it was signed by the judge." Casey had argued that Roe v. Wade, the historic 1973 Supreme Court decision that guaranteed women the right to have an abortion, works both ways. "Roe was about the right to choose," Casey told CNN prior to the order being signed. "This young woman has the right to ...

Pee Down His Leg Chris Matthews: Natural Rights and Second Amendment Are Racist

(Infowars.com) You know establishment liberals are desperate when they start throwing around the race card to defend their attacks on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. On Thursday, that’s exactly what former D.C. cop and MSNBC script reader Chris Matthews did – he called the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre a racist for daring to defend the god-given natural right of self-defense. “Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals,” LaPierre wrote for the Daily Caller on Wednesday. “These are perils we are sure to face – not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just ...

Syracuse, NY -- A national Muslim organization headquartered in the Southern Tier has filed a libel lawsuit against the author of a book that describes the group as the host of terrorist training camps. Muslims of America, based in Hancock, Delaware County, sued Martin Mawyer and his Christian Action Network for $3 million in federal court in Syracuse, seeking to halt the continued publication of his book, “Twilight in America: the Untold Story of Islamic Training Camps in America.” The book takes aim at Muslims of America with false claims that have put the group's members in fear of violent attacks from Mawyer’s followers, the lawsuit said. The co-author of the ...

In bleeding heart, do-gooder San Francisco, most fretting over the scheduled federal budget sequester has revolved around what the across-the-board cuts would mean for the poor. Homeless advocates, for example, have warned that if Congress and President Obama don’t compromise by March 1, the city will lose more than $1 million in homeless assistance grants and $800,000 worth of housing vouchers for low-income AIDS patients. But in emphasizing to reporters after last Tuesday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting that the city’s fairly rosy budget projections for next year would be dramatically worse if sequestration happens, Mayor Ed Lee highlighted something else. No more ...

State of the Union Seating Planners Troll Ted Nugent, Put Him Next to Gay Civil Rights Activist from Portland

After all that brouhaha over Ted Nugent — you know, the guy who threatened to kill President Obama — getting invited to the State of the Union by Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), the hard-talking, pants-shitting rocker was seldom seen throughout the evening. But the one photo of Nugent that did make the rounds was publicized not from Stockman's camp, but rather from that of Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), the congressman who invited Nugent's seatmate — Portland musician Thomas Lauderdale. Lauderdale, best known for founding the "little orchestra" known as Pink Martini, is the anti-Ted Nugent: A liberal, Occupy-Movement-supporting, openly gay civil rights ...

KCTV5 A homeless man who hit the jackpot in his change cup—a diamond ring—showed he had a heart of gold by returning it. The woman who accidentally dumped her engagement ring along with all the spare change in her wallet into the cup noticed the mistake long after she had given the pricey item to the Kansas City man, Billy Ray Harris. Sarah Darling, who hadn't meant to be quite that generous to the man on the street, explained to Kansas City, Mo.'s KCTV that "my rings were bothering me, so I put them in my coin purse." Darling said she didn't realize what she'd done until the next day. "I was so incredibly upset because, more than just the value ...

WASHINGTON – At last night’s White House state dinner honoring former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, Vice President Biden managed to ignite a bit of a firestorm when he addressed the honoree and distinguished guests. After thanking Mayor Barry for his public service and congratulating him on his many accomplishments, the Vice President strayed off-script and embarked on a bewildering oration that left some of the dinner guests uneasy and all of the guests confused. Mr. Biden’s discourse began to meander wildly when his subject matter shifted from Marion Barry to Mrs. Obama’s new haircut. “I’ve always been a big fan of the Beatles,” Biden said, “so I ...

Bare breasts and historical revision in North Carolina

Rev. Mark H. Creech has a problem with bare breasts, and a strange view of history, to boot. The executive director of the Christian Action League of North Carolina Inc., Rev Creech has penned an opinion piece at the Christian Post about breasts and equality. Like most of his ilk, the reverend thinks gays are out to destroy society, women are state-mandated baby factories, and Jesus himself was present for the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Or the Constitution. Or whatever it takes to make America a Christian nation. But today, Mr. Creech has breasts on his mind. A couple of North Carolina Republicans have been pushing a bill to make it illegal for women to fully bare their ...

Rand Paul's State of the Union Response: It's Time For Radicaltarianism

Rand Paul’s rebuttal to Barack Obama’s State of the Union address was by far the most important and interesting of the three speeches Americans got to sample last night. (Marco Rubio’s was the third.) Though hardly perfect, Paul’s speech put a thumb on the two key features of national partisan politics today. First: “It is time for a new bipartisan consensus.” Second: “The path we are on is not sustainable, but few in Congress or in this Administration seem to recognize that their actions are endangering the prosperity of this great nation.” A State of the Union rebuttal can only offer a compressed assessment of our fortunes and our future. But these ...

It’s been a busy 24 hours for Sen. Rand Paul. First the Kentucky Republican delivered the “tea party response” to President Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, webcast by the group Tea Party Express. Today Paul announced he’ll block the confirmation of John Brennan, Obama’s nominee to head the Central Intelligence Agency, until Brennan says whether he believes the president has authority to kill Americans on American soil. “I have asked Mr. Brennan if he believed that the President has the power to authorize lethal force, such as a drone strike, against a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil, and my question remains unanswered. Rand Paul: Ashley Judd 'Doesn't Really Represent Kentucky' (VIDEO)

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told CNN on Sunday that Hollywood actress and Democratic activist Ashley Judd "doesn't really represent Kentucky." "When I heard Ashely Judd might run for office, I thought it was Parliament because she lives in Scotland half of the year," Paul told CNN's Candy Crowley. In a bit of back-handed praise, Paul then said, "Ashley Judd is a famous actress, she's an attractive woman, and presents herself well and from what I understand is articulate." Paul's dismissal of Judd came after he was asked whether he knew if Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had any Tea Party challengers coming forward. Upon review of ...

WICHITA, KS, February 11, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – The woman trying to reopen George Tiller's abortion clinic has claimed that women who choose abortion are motivated by feelings of motherhood in a new interview with a left-wing magazine. “Abortion is about motherhood,” said Julie Burkhart, who hopes to open South Wind Women’s Center on the same grounds as Tiller's late-term abortion facility, in an interview with Mother Jones. Julie Burkhart hopes to take up where George Tiller left off. She said “abortion care” is “about motherhood, because by and large women coming in to have abortions are concerned about the kind of life and the future for ...
