SANFORD -- The Sanford Police Department says the United States Department of Justice has asked for a hold on evidence related to the George Zimmerman case. Justice Department officials said earlier this week there was an open investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin. Multiple agencies are working with the civil rights division to evaluate evidence from the federal investigation and recent state trial, the office of public affairs said in a statement issued Monday. The filing would begin a 30- to 90-day period that will determine whether the city is eligible for Chapter 9 protection and define how many claimants might compete for the limited settlement resources that Detroit has to offer. CRENSHAW (CBSLA.com) — Crowds of anti-Zimmerman protesters shut down part of the 10 Freeway in Crenshaw Sunday evening.
About 200 demonstrators stood on the freeway to block traffic.
Many held signs with Trayvon Martin’s likeness, other held signs asking for “justice” and “peace.”
Traffic was stopped on the EB and SB 10 Freeway for about 30 minutes.
Another group splintered off from this group and disrupted traffic on Crenshaw Boulevard, said police.
In the 10 Freeway protest, there were reports that some of the protesters threw water bottles, batteries and rocks at police near 39th and Crenshaw.

In recognition of Independence Day, Gallup has released a poll on whether American citizens are still proud to be American. Ninety-three percent of Republicans indicate that they are “extremely/very proud” to be American while only 85 percent of Democrats feel the same way. Eighty-one percent of political Independents indicate they are “extremely/very proud.” Likewise, 89 percent of poll respondents who identified themselves as conservative are “extremely/very proud,” to be American compared to 76 percent of liberals.
