The U.S. Department of Education has officially opened an investigation into allegations that an Arizona high schools campus-wide Redneck Day amounted to a federal civil rights violation. The kerfuffle giving rise to the investigation arose back in May at Queen Creek High School on the outskirts of Phoenix. The student council hatched a plan to energize students for prom week that included a faculty adviser-approved Redneck Day. The point was to dress like and spoof Duck Dynasty, an A&E reality TV show which follows a wealthy, eccentric Louisiana family. Its not exactly clear how dressing like a hillbilly was going to ...

Chris Mills frequently gives tours of St. Elizabeths Hospital, a former mental institution where the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is building a $4.5 billion headquarters. Its the largest construction project in the District of Columbia since the Pentagon was completed in 1943. So theres a lot of ground to cover. Mills prefers to chauffeur his guests around the place in a golf cart. A cheerful 55-year-old with a neatly trimmed mustache, Mills, who is managing the project for DHS, tells visitors to look out for animals. There are loads. Herds of deer, a flock of wild turkeys, and a bald eagle reside in the fenced-in facility. They might not last long outside. St. ...
Holder takes on Texas over voting laws after court ruling Post Date: 2013-07-25 12:32:05 by We The People

Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday the Justice Department will ask a San Antonio-based federal court to force Texas to get permission from the federal government before it can make any additional changes to its voting and election laws. The challenge to Texas' authority comes after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a portion of the Voting Rights Act. The high courts 5-4 decision invalidated a rule that singled out certain states, like Texas and North Carolina, and forced them to get Justice Department approval before changing their election rules. The Voting Rights Act was a major turning point in black Americans struggle for equal rights and political power. The ...

That study has finally been released and it likely doesnt produce the narrative that the White House wanted. While it offers insight into gun violence and how to identify and prevent it from occuring, CNS News dug into the study and notes that it points to firearms as an important deterrent to crime and that instances of gun violence have fallen over the last five years: Self-defense can be an important crime deterrent, says a new report by the Centers for Disease Control ...

Barack Obama, to hear his advisers tell it, has finally found The One he has been looking for: John McCain. We have been looking literally for years for someone we can cut deals with, and finally someone has stepped up, a White House official said. West Wing aides say they now talk with McCain roughly every other day. McCain, to hear fellow Republicans tell it, has finally found The Two he has needed to make such conversations worth the bother: Sen. Chuck Schumer, a Democrat who can actually get things done in the Senate, and Denis McDonough, a White House chief of staff who actually cares what senators say and think and do. While Obama and party leaders clash endlessly and ...

In an interview with Breitbart Friday, Paul declared that he will oppose any attempts by the federal government to save the struggling city. "I basically say [Obama] is bailing them out over my dead body because we dont have any money in Washington," he told the conservative news site. Paul added that bankruptcy can often lead to positive change ("You get to start over," the senator reasoned) and that state and local leaders are the ones who need to make the right choices to get Detroit back on its feet. Clearly something went wrong. I feel bad for anybody who loses a kid, but if you looked at the case and you don't make it -- there was some racial profiling, no question about it. But something happened that changed the dynamic of that night, and I know -- that's probably not a popular opinion among most people but just looking at the evidence I agreed with the verdict. I just feel bad because I don't like when race gets out in the media because I don't think the media has a pure heart, as ...

The first claim is likely to be intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED). To be successful, Zimmerman will have to show that conduct of Al Sharpton and NBC was so extreme and outrageous that it transcended all bounds of decency; that they acted with either the purpose to cause Zimmerman extreme emotional distress or acted with reckless disregard ...
