The production, trade, and consumption of marijuana (cannabis) by adults should be perfectly legal. Period.Yet having said that, the U.S. has a long history of drug restriction begining with the Harrison Narcotics Act (1914) which regulated many so-called hard drugs. Interestingly marijuana was excluded from the law. At the state level, Massachusetts enacted the first statewide cannabis prohibition in 1911 followed by California in 1913. Prohibitions soon spread throughout New England and then to most of the country by the early 1930s. The general public hostility to marijuana use (nurtured by media hyperbole) climaxed with the passage of the federal ...

While Scott Walker wants to move on, Ted Cruz plans to fight. In a nutshell, those are the battle lines being drawn over gay marriage among the 2016 GOP presidential aspirants. [READ: Supreme Court Greenlights Gay Marriage] After the Supreme Court punted on state rulings, how to define legal matrimony again veered into sharp focus, with two polar opposite approaches being outlined by the Wisconsin governor from a blue state and a Texas senator from a deep red one. For us, its over in Wisconsin, Walker acknowledged, citing the high court move that means a lower court decision to accept gay marriage in his state is the final word on the subject. And Walker, who faces ...

With Republicans in Congress split over the best approach to President Obamas executive amnesty and with many establishment Republicans splitting from grassroots Republicans on the issue of illegal immigration more generally its clear that immigration will be a hot-button primary issue in 2016. Thats nothing new: Governor Rick Perry of Texas saw his campaign flounder not on his oops moment, but on his proclamation that those who didnt back in-state tuition for illegal immigrants were heartless. But the bases passion on the immigration issue has only escalated thanks to President Obamas precipitous and illegal actions in failing ...

Kinloch, Missouri Theda Wilson, the former mayor of a Missouri town says that she was assaulted by police after she called 911 to report a burglary in her apartment complex. In the back of my apartment I called 9-1-1 thinking they were going to help, Wilson said. Unfortunately, help is rarely what actually arrives when the police are called, as Wilson soon found out. As the police arrived, Wilson approached them and let them know that a suspicious person was seen going in and out of a nearby building. That is when police told her that she was under arrest, and instead of explaining anything they moved to physically apprehend her. Naturally, not knowing why she ...

Without putting any words in my mouth, you can absolutely say that Im seriously interested, said Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, in the lobby of the Marriott late Friday night.

Brandon Smith (R) was charged with driving under the influence and wants the case dismissed citing that lawmakers are privileged from arrest. His attempt to circumvent the hand of justice have thus far proven to be successful too. On Wednesday a judge delayed Smiths arraignment after his attorney filed this request. The Bush Massacre of the Reaganites (must read history of the Bushes) Post Date: 2015-01-23 09:12:56 by A K A Stone

This week marks the twenty-sixth anniversary of the massacre of the Reaganites by newly elected President George H.W. Bush that effectively ended the prospect of institutionalizing Reaganism as the governing principle of the Republican Party and America. We call it the massacre of the Reaganites because, in a well-thought-out and carefully crafted purge, on Inauguration Day 1989 practically every conservative who remained in government at the end of President Ronald Reagans second term, and certainly any conservative of any political consequence, was fired or forced to resign from their post in the federal government. Even those who had worked tirelessly to ...

"We found there hasn't been much of a change of anything ... Basically, officers aren't seeing much of a change in how they do police work."That's what an unnamed Denver police officer told CBC's Reg Sherren, who traveled to Colorado to assess how marijuana legalization had impacted the state in the one year since it was legalized. The officer's quote is telling: Contrary to the myths promulgated by opponents of marijuana legalization, states like Colorado and Washington that have legalized recreational use have not devolved into lawless hellscapes after all. Crime is down: Marijuana-related arrests, which made up almost 50% of all ...

Venturing down a line of legislative reasoning that apparently sees threats to the republic in convenience store clerks, security guards, globe-trotting journalists, and shopkeepers nervy enough to do business in troubled neighborhoods, Rep. Mike Honda (D-YouGottaBeKiddingMe) offers up HR 378, The Responsible Body Armor Possession Act. Yes, it is in fact a bill intended to limit people's ability to own gear that reduces injuries and death caused by bullets. While the text of the bill isn't yet available, it looks like a rehash of legislation introduced last year that would ban "body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ...

A Georgia lawmaker has proposed a bill, aptly named Baby Bous law, that would restrict the issuance of no-knock raids. The bills namesake, Baby Bounekahm Bou Bou Phonesavanh, suffered third-degree burns to his chest and face after sheriffs deputies in Habersham County raided a house in the middle of the night in May of 2014. They were looking for a person who did not live there, over a $50 drug sale, and threw a flashbang grenade into the infants crib. According to the bills sponsor, State Sen. Vincent Fort, there was also a stunning new revelation in the case of 19-month-old Bou-Bou, involving a lie. We know that theres evidence ...

President Obama, for all the flak he took from Republicans over his combative State of the Union address, now is running into turbulence from members of his own party who could prove an even bigger barrier to his agenda. Democrats from across the political spectrum spent Wednesday taking aim at parts of the presidents platform. Though in the minority, they hold sway because Democratic defectors particularly in the Senate could make the difference in helping Republicans pass key legislation, and even override a presidential veto. Already, a top-ranking Senate Democrat has renewed pressure on Obama to slow his diplomatic outreach to Cuba and to Iran. House and ...

(CNN)A federal investigation has not found enough evidence to charge Darren Wilson with the federal crime of depriving Michael Brown of his civil rights, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation. The FBI has completed its investigation into the August shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, and sent the findings to the Justice Department, a law enforcement official and a separate U.S. official said Wednesday. Justice Department prosecutors will not recommend civil rights charges against Wilson, who killed Brown, because there is not sufficient evidence to support charges, a U.S. official told CNN. The New York Times first reported the development Wednesday. A grand jury decided ...
