Forum News Service: Tom Cherveny Angela Brown of Madison, Minn., has signed off on an agreement that will lead to the dismissal of a child endangerment charge against her for giving her 15-year-old son cannabis oil to treat his seizures and pain from a traumatic brain injury. Five of the six cops in a tiny Missouri city quit after voters elected their first black female mayor. Two full-time and three part-time officers in Parma resigned shortly before Tyus Byrd was sworn in on Tuesday, KFVS reported. Outgoing Mayor Randall Ramsey told the station the cops gave no notice and were joined by the city attorney, clerk and water treatment supervisor. They cited “safety concerns” in their resignation letters, according to Ramsey. Byrd, who had previously worked as the city’s clerk, has declined to comment about the rash of walk outs but said she wasn’t able to find the letters. Parma, which sits in southeast Missouri, has a dwindling population ...

AMERICANS CHOOSE MEDIA MESSAGES THAT AGREE WITH THEIR VIEWS
Post Date: 2015-04-19 23:54:17 by Gatlin

A new study provides some of the strongest evidence to date that Americans prefer to read political articles that agree with the opinions they already hold. Researchers found that people spent 36 percent more time reading articles that agreed with their point of view than they did reading text that challenged their opinions. Even when they did read articles that countered their views, participants almost always balanced that with reading others that confirmed their opinions. The study is important because it is one of the first to record what people actually read and link these findings to their views on the same topics. “We found that people generally chose media messages that ...

Scott Walker has attended gay wedding reception

NASHUA, N.H. – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has attended a wedding reception for a gay couple, he said Sunday, though the potential 2016 contender still believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. “That’s certainly a personal issue. For a family member, Tonette and I and our family have already had a family member who’s had a reception. I haven’t been at a wedding,” Walker said when msnbc asked whether he would be willing to attend a gay wedding. “That’s true even though my position on marriage is still that it’s defined between a man and a woman, and I support the constitution of the state. But for someone I love, we’ve been at a ...

Eagles signing Tebow on Monday [Full Thread]

He’s back. After a two-season exile, the man who took the Broncos to the divisional round in 2011 before being summarily dumped for Peyton Manning will have a new job in the NFL. Per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Tim Tebow will sign with the Eagles on Monday. (Yes, Glazer has the scoop, even though Tebow works for ESPN.) Traded to the Jets in March 2012, Tebow had a single, disastrous season in New York. Cut by the Jets, the Patriots gave him a look in the 2013 offseason, training camp, and preseason. Tebow didn’t make the 53-man roster, and he hasn’t been heard from again. The Eagles gave Tebow a workout on March 16, and they reportedly would be inclined to sign him only if ...

St. Louis Police Just Shot Man Who Was Talking About ‘Revolution’
Post Date: 2015-04-19 17:55:20 by Deckard

Another African American man has been shot and killed by Missouri police officers even though he was not attacking anyone, and had no firearm of any kind. This happened in the midst of ongoing protests all over the nation, and especially in Ferguson and St. Louis, regarding police shootings of African American men. This case has already been justified by the police who said that Thaddeus McCarroll, 23, “had a knife.” But McCarroll was locked in his mother’s house, and he was no threat to officers. Instead, his mother called the police when she said her son had been “talking about revolution” and locked himself in the house. Instead of showing up and getting ...

This is How Good Cops Act: Heroic Officer Refuses to Shoot Man Despite Dangerous Confrontation

In a rare and beautiful moment, an Ohio police rookie actually did the right thing and did not shoot a man who was actively trying to get himself killed.  The restraint and courage this veteran embodies was all captured on his body camera and will hopefully be an inspiration to police everywhere. New Richmond Police Officer Jesse Kidder, 27, was attempting to arrest a man on Thursday who had allegedly murdered his best friend and his fiance.  The officer was warned by a dispatcher that the man may attempt suicide by cop. He had been spotted by an investigator earlier in the evening who claims that Wilcox told him that he had a gun. In the extremely intense footage, Wilcox is seen ...

Why I, Unlike Senator Rubio, Would Not Attend a Gay Wedding

Senator Marco Rubio, one of our most attractive and charismatic leaders in the rising generation, just announced he’s running for president. So naturally he’s being peppered with the one question uppermost in the minds of American voters: What do you think of gay marriage? Rubio is getting this hit, in part, because he’s trying to negotiate a Third Way: He’s for traditional marriage but will “respect” the rights of states to disagree. He thinks states should have the right to decide the definition of marriage, but (unlike Ted Cruz) he refused to sign onto an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to leave the definition of marriage to the states, and he says ...

Worse than Sandusky: School Cop Whose Job was to 'Protect' Students, Repeatedly Raped 22 Boys

Pittsburgh, PA — When famous football coach, Jerry Sandusky raped multiple young boys it was a worldwide scandal. However, when a public servant whose job was to “protect” school children, instead commits dozens and dozens of rapes on a school campus, no one bats an eye. Twenty-two victims in total are mentioned in a lawsuit against former school resource officer, Robert Lellock. The lawsuit details how this serial child rapist would repeatedly walk into classrooms and remove his victims one by one. He would then lock himself and the young boys in the janitor’s closet where the sexual assaults would take place. "They were charged with the welfare and protection of ...

Boston, MA — A cyclist in Boston filmed an interaction that confirms what many people already know. The duty of the police is not to protect society, but to enforce the law. In fact, there is an oft-cited DC Court of Appeals case that legally set this precedent; cops do not protect citizens.Warren v. District of Columbia held that police do not owe a specific duty to provide police services to citizens based on the public duty doctrine. They are to enforce the law only. The Boston cyclist who goes by the YouTube handle, Me You, witnessed first hand, the complacent and lackadaisical attitude of police when it comes to public safety. The entire interaction was caught on his bike ...

Bernard Goldberg Calls Out Fox’s Pandering On Cliven Bundy And More

Last night, Bernard Goldberg had another conversation with Bill O’Reilly about Fox News bias. O’Reilly continued to deny Fox’s lack of fairness and balance. But Goldberg stuck to his guns, citing among other things, Fox’s championing of criminal, racist rancher Cliven Bundy as an example. This was Part 2 of a discussion that began last week on The O'Reilly Factor. Goldberg made it quite clear again that he hearts Fox News. But he was not buying O’Reilly’s continued insistence that Fox is not a conservative operation. “Liberals in the media go easy on their people and tough on conservatives, and conservatives in the media go easy on their people and ...

Where Are The Cliven Bundy Supporters Now?

One year ago, Cliven Bundy sought help in his stand against the federal government.  He believed he owned the right to graze his cattle for free on federal land, and he wanted an army to back him in his self-proclaimed range war. Bundy’s family has had a long history of encounters with the law, so it’s no surprise that those who responded to his call-to-arms had their own troubles and grudges with the government. During the Bundy Ranch “peaceful” standoff, supporters threatened government employees and officials, pointed firearms at law enforcement officers, harassed the press, called in bomb scares to local businesses, set up roadblocks on public roads, and formed ...

The owner of a southwestern Oregon mining claim embroiled in a land-use dispute with federal authorities asked militia groups Thursday afternoon to stop sending volunteers to back him against government agents. “We don’t need any more volunteers, we’re not under attack, this is not the Bundy Ranch,” said Rick Barclay, co-owner of the Sugar Pine Mining Claim, told the Mail Tribune. “Please stop calling the BLM and threatening their personnel.” The claim’s owners contacted the local Josephine County Oath Keepers chapter after the U.S. Bureau of Land Management ordered them to file a plan of operations for the gold mining activities or remove all their ...

John Geer, a 46-year-old dad of two, told police officers, “I don’t want to die today” before one cop shot him once in the chest. Geer, according to other officers on the scene as well as Geer’s own father, who witnessed the police killing of his son, had his hands up when Fairfax County, Virginia, Officer Adam Torres fired at him from about 15 feet away — as Geer stood in the doorway of his own home, newly released documents show. Greer was calmly speaking with the officers, was charged with no crime, his girlfriend had reported a domestic disturbance and then left his townhouse unharmed. Shortly after John Geer informed the officers he was going to lower his hands ...

Wednesday, Craft was charged with persistent disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and a tobacco violation. Luckily for Craft this incident was captured on multiple cell phone videos. According to the police report, the student was confronted by his unit principal after they saw him smoking an e-cigarette in the building, which is against school policy, as well as state law. The unit principal requested that Craft hand it over. When he refused, the school resource officer got involved. Craft also ignored Officer Ivanovics when he told him to ...

Mark Brewer is a decorated Air Force veteran who fought in the global war on terror. But last month, he became a casualty in the drug war. In late March, the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the federal government could take more than $60,000 of Brewer’s cash with civil forfeiture, even though he was never charged with a crime. The decision lets many Midwestern states continue to take property from people who have done nothing wrong. A former military police officer and weapons specialist, Brewer earned several medals during his service in the Air Force, before he was medically discharged in 2008. Brewer said he developed Posttraumatic Stress Disorder after a deployment in ...
