At the heart of this case, Lorie Smith, owner of Creative 303 LLC, wants to design web pages for weddings. It was already the case that certain conservative websites have had to eliminate their comment sections under threat from Big Tech, which has the ability to take those sites offline (as it did with Parler). Now the New York state government has gotten in on the act, instituting a hate speech law that compels any site allowing comments to police its users speech or face punishment. As law professor Eugene Volokh puts it, the state wants to conscript us to violate the Constitution. The law, which took effect Saturday, sparked an 11th-hour lawsuit filed by the nonprofit group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) on behalf of ...

"In my mind, what the DEA [Drug Enforcement Administration] is essentially doing is telling a diabetic who's been on insulin for 20 years that they no longer need insulin and they should be cured. They just don't understand what chronic pain is." That's what Gretchen Elliott's brother told Vice at his sister's funeral last month. Gretchen and her husband Danny committed suicide because they could no longer endure a pain that doctors were terrified of treating. It was the most recent of the many dreadful outcomes that follow when cops practice medicine. Click for Full Text!

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon never should have interfered with the FBI's investigation of government records that former President Donald Trump retained after leaving office, a federal appeals court ruled last week. The decision, which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit issued late Thursday, allows the Justice Department to resume its examination of some 13,000 documents that the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago in August. Special Counsel Jack Smith is considering whether Trump or his underlings committed federal crimes by keeping the records at his Palm Beach resort. Cannon threw a wrench into that investigation on September 5, when she agreed with Trump that a special ...

When the final tally comes in for the Georgia runoff, the country should expect the candidate behind in the count to take to the courts. Initial data from the November 2022 general election indicates more than 25,000 Georgians may have voted illegally in the general election. And the problem appears poised to repeat itself when voters cast their ballots in the states runoff election for senator on Dec. 6, 2022. Absent a win by a substantial margin by either Republican challenger Herschel Walker or Democrat incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, litigation, with the potential ordering of a new election, seems likely a scenario that would have proved disastrous to the country had ...
