Sacramento, CA A video taken by protesters is raising some serious questions after it captured police officers wearing a modified version of the American flag on their official gear. The modified version of the flag being worn by officers entails one thin blue line, which police often contend represents the barrier between anarchy and a civilized society, between order and chaos, or between respect for decency and lawlessness. However, citizens increasingly perceive this as a symbolic line that represents the separation and differentiates police from the rest of society, representing a blue code of silence amongst the brotherhood of cops. All colors on the flag are ...

IRS finally reveals list of tea party groups targeted for extra scrutiny Post Date: 2016-06-06 09:02:35 by IbJensen

More than three years after it admitted to targeting tea party groups for intrusive scrutiny, the IRS has finally released a near-complete list of the organizations it snagged in a political dragnet. The tax agency filed the list last month as part of a court case after a series of federal judges, fed up with what they said was the agencys stonewalling, ordered it to get a move on. The case is a class-action lawsuit, so the list of names is critical to knowing the scope of those who would have a claim against the IRS. But even as it answers some questions, the list raises others, including exactly when the targeting stopped, and how broadly the tax agency drew its net when it went ...
Ron Paul: Why almost everyone has the whole bathroom debate wrong Post Date: 2016-06-06 05:50:51 by buckeroo

Debates over the U.S. government's foreign and economic policies have recently taken a back seat to the debate over what bathroom transgender individuals should use. The two sides of the debate both believe that government has the legitimate authority to tell private businesses who they should allow to use their facilities. Few on either side of this debate defend the right of private property owners to decide for themselves who may and may not use their bathrooms. Some say government must be involved in this issue in order to ensure that private businesses do not violate individual rights. Those who make this claim are accepting the idea that rights are no more than a gift from the ...

Washington (CNN)Top Republican officials and donors are increasingly worried over the threat Donald Trump's attack on a judge's Mexican heritage could pose to their party's chances in November -- and about the GOP's ability to win Latino votes for many elections to come. Trump is under fire for repeatedly accusing U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing a lawsuit involving Trump University, of bias because of his Mexican heritage. Those concerns intensified Sunday after Trump said he would have the same concerns about the impartiality of a Muslim judge. House and Senate GOP leaders have condemned Trump's remarks about Curiel, while donors have openly ...

Last month, when health officials reported they discovered a pathogenic connection between raw milk from a Pennsylvania dairy and two illnesses in 2014 one in California and the other in Florida a wave of disbelief and condemnation began rippling out from the raw milk community. News stories about the announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sparked a flurry of online comments from raw milk drinkers and producers who disparaged the governments science and scientists. A common thread through many of the posts was disbelief that laboratory analysis could actually prove the pathogen samples from the two patients and the dairy were the same strain ...

A California elementary school student has one simple wish: Make school dress codes great again. Third-grader Logan Autry, 9, said officials at Powers-Ginsburg Elementary School in Fresno told him to remove his Make America Great Again hat because it could stir negative emotions in other children. The red baseball cap with the phrase printed in white capital letters has become almost synonymous with the campaign of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. The principal told me to take it off, and I still didnt take it off, Autry told Fox and Friends on Saturday. And she said it was against the dress code to wear the hat, ...

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina sued the federal government, becoming the latest health insurer to claim it is owed money under the Affordable Care Act. The suit, filed on Thursday in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C., says the U.S. failed to live up to obligation to pay the insurer more than $147 million owed under an ACA program known as risk corridors, which aimed to limit the financial risks borne by insurers entering the new health-law markets. The suit argues that the federal government violated the language of the health law, as well as a contractual obligation to the North Carolina insurer. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina ...

Legalizing marijuana is a hazy question once you've seen addiction up close Post Date: 2016-06-05 11:06:55 by Gatlin

Ive spilt more than youve smoked, my brother-in-law, lets call him Marty, bragged to my husband in the throes of his addiction. A measure to legalize recreational marijuana is heading toward the California ballot in November. Marty would have been thrilled but then, he didnt bother much with voting. My vote, too, would have been a no-brainer some years ago. Legalize it, tax it, make it safer, I would have said then, back when I felt more certain about everything, when I viewed addiction as a lack of self-discipline and personal weakness. I never dreamed it could take down an entire family. My husband helped his older brother move frequently in ...

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) This Silicon Valley city and its police department are facing mounting complaints of a tepid and tardy law enforcement response to attacks of Donald Trump supporters after a political rally. Videos circulating online show physical clashes occurring in front of San Jose police officers dressed in riot gear and standing stoically in a line outside the convention center where Trump spoke. Critics also complained that assaults occurred on side streets near the venue that lacked police presence. Potentially more could have been done, said San Jose Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio, chairman of the councils public safety committee. The questions about ...

What Does It Mean to Be a Republican? Post Date: 2016-06-05 07:24:28 by buckeroo

Donald Trumps surge has been anything but subtle. He climbed the polls throughout the primary season while his rivals exited the race one by one. His controversial rhetoric rarely made a dent on a campaign built on ardent, loyal supporters. And now, Trumps candidacy is complicating the relationship between party identification and party allegiance within the GOP. Historically, party identification is weaker among Republicans than Democrats. A Pew Research analysis released in 2015 found 23 percent of Americans identify as Republicans compared with 32 percent who identify as Democrats. The findings align with a pattern in the United States. As Pew put it: For more than 70 ...

How the illegal immigrant hiring train works. Post Date: 2016-06-04 21:08:02 by no gnu taxes

I talked with a Mexican guy who explained it to me. I guess I probably knew this already, but it was good to here somebody on the inside confirm it. It is wealthy Americans who hire illegal immigrants. Oh, it's not just some fat cat at the top calling the shots. It's a conglomeration of a number of different individuals and companies with common interests. They partner together. They typically subcontract to companies or "hiring consultants" for labor. These contracted personnel are legal Latinos. The Americans make sure that these people are legal. However, they then wash their hands of anything these subcontractors do. The subcontractors then hire mostly illegals. ...

Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who obtained Homeland Security documents on the incident. It was only later that U.S. officials discovered his associations. Hunter told Fox News on Friday that the ...
