On Tuesday, January 3rd, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated labeling for mifepristone (generic for Mifeprex) that would allow pharmacies to dispense the drug. In a 3-2 decision, the Idaho Supreme Court Thursday upheld three abortion- related laws, including the “trigger” law which took effect immediately after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last June. A report released by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General on the FBI’s shoddy oversight of its operations also alluded to the bureau possibly having employees secretly operating in the media. The FBI Washington Field Office announced that it was increasing its reward for information regarding the Capitol Hill pipe bomber days before the second anniversary of Jan. 6. Two pipe bombs were found at the Republican and Democratic National Committees leading the FBI to conduct an investigation and offer an initial reward of $100,000. The engine supplier for Lockheed Martin’s highly-sought F-35 fighter jet has suspended deliveries while an investigation into a December accident proceeds, Defense News reported Wednesday, stalling hundreds of planned jet deliveries. The Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO), the Defense Contract Management Agency and engine maker Pratt & Whitney came to a “mutual agreement” to block new engine deliveries on Dec. 27, the JPO told Defense News. The JPO grounded a small group of newer jets after an F-35B variety crashed on a Texas runway earlier that month and is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. The Biden administration just gave the okay for the U.S. Postal Service to ignore state abortion bans and send abortion drugs through the mail in all 50 states. The Hill reports the U.S. Department of Justice issued the legal opinion to the U.S. Postal Service and independent mail services Tuesday in response to several recent Biden administration decisions that allow abortion drugs to be sold through the mail or at a pharmacy. A study of men by Lifeway Research released last week found that “Nearly four-in-10 men with either a girlfriend or a wife who had an abortion say they had the most influence on the decision to terminate the pregnancy,” according to Michael Gryboski. It's a victory for the privacy of landlords and renters in Zion, Illinois, as the city has formally agreed to change its rental inspection laws to comply with Fourth Amendment protections against warrantless searches. The mayor and City Council of Zion, population just under 25,000, passed a rental inspection ordinance in 2015 that required all property owners to apply for certification for any residences they wanted to lease. Part of the requirement to get a rental certificate was to allow any rental unit to be inspected by city officials every year.
