The United States is already engaged in combat operations (within the last year) in at least seven countries; Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen. And the latest rhetoric coming from the Trump administration seems to want to add Iran to the list. Earlier this week, President Trumps National Security Adviser Michael Flynn said Wednesday he was officially putting Iran on notice. On Thursday, when asked to clarify Flynns comments, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer pointed the finger of blame toward Iran. Spicer said, I think General Flynn was really clear yesterday that Iran has violated the Joint Resolution, that Irans ...

Strong passions can erupt in unpredictable ways. The government understands this and desires that strong passions be diverted in a harmless to the government way. Enter the cultivated, culturally and socially enforced obsession with organized, mass spectacle sports. Fuuhhhhhtttttball especially but also the others. These games a new one to keep people busy almost every day, year-round are not so much bread and circuses, as they are often called. They are the vivification of the fictional Two Minutes Hate in Orwells 1984. A means by which the passions the frustrations and anger of men in particular ...

In the first 10 days of Donald Trumps presidency, controversy shrouded the administration. Perhaps nothing drew more opposition and backlash, including from some Republicans, as Executive Order 13769. The order, entitled Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States, sparked protests at airports in major cities across the country as individuals from seven predominately Muslim nations were held at airports or sent back to their country of origin. Within hours of the order, a federal court in Brooklyn granted an emergency stay, and a few days later, acting Attorney General Sally Yates was fired from her position for refusing to ...

A document from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) indicates that Donald Trump took steps last week to outmaneuver nonprofit organizations, leaving them unable to officially campaign against him over the next few years of his Presidency. Filed on January 20th, 2017, the letter states that, while not an official announcement for reelection, Donald Trump has filed an FEC Form 2 in order to "ensure compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act." This is an unprecedented, although legal, move for the President to make. Barack Obama did not file for his 2012 re-election bid until April 2011. Having filed (even if not formally announcing a bid) as a candidate, Trump would be ...

The US federal appeals court has rejected the Trump administration's request to reinstate a travel ban blocked by a federal judge on Friday. The late night ruling means the travel ban will remain suspended until the full case has been heard. The court gave the White House and the states challenging it a deadline of Monday to present more arguments. Two states argued that the travel ban, affecting people from seven mainly-Muslim countries, was unconstitutional. In its appeal, the Justice Department said Judge James Robart had overreached by "second guessing" the president on a national security matter. It also argued that only the president could decide who can enter or ...

WASHINGTON The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is looking to transfer approximately 20 agents to Chicago in an effort to beef up the federal presence in the city, two federal law enforcement officials told CNN Friday. The additional agents will form a new task force, which the ATF referred to in internal documents as the Chicago Crime Guns Strike Force in an effort to stem the citys gun violence. The increase, one official said, has been in the works for some time and is not in response to President Donald Trump tweeting last week that If Chicago doesnt fix the horrible carnage going on

Even in cases of spousal rape. A new law in Arkansas bans most second trimester abortions and allows a womans husband to sue the doctor for civil damages or injunctive relief, which would block the woman from having the procedure. The Unborn Child Protection From Dismemberment Abortion Act, signed into law last week by Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), bans dilation and evacuation procedures, in which the physician removes the fetus from the womb with surgical tools. I went into a business today to take care of some matters and there was a big delay. They kept mentioning there was a "biohazard," and they had to check with officials to see how it should be handled. I'm thinking, WTF? It turns the biohazard was a customer threw up in a public area. Geez, couldn't they just send out the janitor with sawdust and a broom and dust pan like they did when I was in elementary school?

In theater shooting case, justice is anything but swift Post Date: 2017-02-01 11:13:02 by Deckard

Sometimes the circumstances of a shooting make it the focus of a lot of news coverage for a while, only to be all but forgotten as the case is prosecuted.Defendants may be sent to prison on a murder conviction, or sent home with charges reduced or dropped, and we sometimes never hear about it. So when a reader asked what happened to that retired police officer who killed a man in a movie theater north of Tampa, after an argument about a cell phone, I had no idea. I thought it might be an example of a case that got away. That theater shooting happened in January of 2014, after all.Curtis Reeves, then 71, is the retired cop who said he fired the fatal shot in self defense during an argument ...

All of the imperial powers amassed by Barack Obama and George W. Bushto kill American citizens without due process, to detain suspects indefinitely, to strip Americans of their citizenship rights, to carry out mass surveillance on Americans without probable cause, to suspend laws during wartime, to disregard laws with which he ...

For stopping the trooper from killing her dog and getting slammed to the ground in front of her 4-year-old son, Tiffanie was charged with misdemeanor obstruction. Of course, Hupp pleaded not guilty, as the video clearly showed that she was the victim. However, the city railroaded Tiffanie by forcing her to use their public appointed defender, with obvious conflicts of interest. She was given a public defender who was married to a state trooper. She was told she had no legal grounds for ...
