In Trump Era, Many Political Activists Follow Their Leader, Not Their Principles Post Date: 2017-04-20 05:56:41 by Deckard

The reward centers of the brain light up when partisans reject information that contradicts their political preferences, the same way drug addicts' brains do. Politics is a team sport, so it has always required a certain flexibility on matters of principle. But two recent studies suggest that, for many Americans, only one principle really matters: following the leader. And the Trump administration is proving it in spades. An idealized account of how we reach our political loyalties might look something like this: First, we study the issues, weighing the facts and the applicable ethical standardsliberty, justice, equality, fairness, etc. Having thought long and hard, we then reach ...

Never Forget: Hero Cop Who Blew Whistle on OKC Bombing Did NOT Commit Suicide Post Date: 2017-04-19 20:20:46 by Deckard

Oklahoma City, OK Instead of being treated as the hero he truly was, Sgt. Terrance Yeakey was silenced by his own government in an effort to keep him from exposing their complicity in one of the largest mass murders in American history which senselessly ended the lives of 168 people, including 19 children. According to his widow, instead of being showered with accolades by the US government for his heroism, Yeakey was killed, with his death being framed to look like a suicide (although a very poorly staged one) only days before receiving the police departments Medal of Valor for his heroic rescue efforts on day of the Oklahoma City bombing. On May 11, 1996, only days ...

By Justin Gardner In May 2004, one year after the U.S. commenced a full-scale invasion of Iraq, the New York Times issued a half-baked apology for its abysmal coverage of the intelligence used to convince America that Iraq was a threat. Looking back, we wish we had been more aggressive in re-examining the claims as new evidence emerged or failed to emerge, wrote the NYT editors. They also lamented their dependence on Iraqi defectors who made spurious claims to further the goal of regime change. It was a grudging admission that the famous newspaper played a critical role in pushing lies and propaganda, to lead the U.S. into a pre-emptive war of ...
