The land of steady habits has a money problem.Connecticut, the richest state in the nation, has racked up $74 billion in debt. Its finances have more in common with Puerto Rico than Massachusetts, as the home of Americas financial wizards struggles to pay off its massive obligations big as the bills come due on decades of mismanagement. While ballooning payments for public employees guaranteed pension and health benefits for public employees and teachers are the main cause of Connecticuts fiscal misery, the state continued borrowing with the abandon of a teenager let loose in a Forever 21 with her parents credit card. Jobs lost during the recession have not ...

Tom Bean, TX In America, there are two sets of laws one for the government class of police, politicians and well-connected elite and one for everybody else. This corrupt system punishes the citizens for crimes the elite commit with impunity. The recent DUI stop of City Councilman Benjamin Vincent in Tom Bean, Texas, illustrates this corruption and shows how it can be detrimental to the safety and well-being of citizens. Last Sunday, Vincent was pulled over by Whitewright police officer Andrew LeFevre after he was seen swerving all over the road, driving into oncoming traffic, and sliding through intersections. When the officer initiated conversation with Vincent, ...

Yesterday, Republican lawmakers blocked a bipartisan proposal designed to allow Veterans Affairs doctors to recommend medical marijuana as a substitute to big pharmas opioids where the drug is legal for veterans. The House Committee stopped the Veterans Equal Access amendment from moving to debate on the House floor by keeping the measure out of the VA funding bill for next year. One of the sponsors of the bill, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore), said in a statement he was bitterly disappointed on the failure to amend the proposed legislation. For years, TFTP has been reporting on the disturbing practice of police shooting peoples pets and claiming they feared for their lives. However, the following account may be the worst weve ever seen. Not only did the cop shoot the dog, but called him close enough so that he wouldnt waste his bullets, presumably, when he dispatched the dog. Alliance Ohio Police Officer Josh Tenneys body camera captured all the moments leading up to the dogs killing. For over 2 minutes, Tenney called out to the dogs who were not on their leashes. He appeared to be trying to get them to come to him. Come here puppy! he said quite affectionately. But ...

I was on the operating table being put under anesthesia. All of a sudden I found my self drifting towards a bright light in the distance. I kept getting closer and closer. Then suddenly I was playing halfback for the Detroit Lions in a tough game against the Packers. Stafford handed me the ball facing a a packer defense stacked against the run, but I made a determined, hard fought run for a 5 yard gain. However, at the end of the run, I was slammed down hard by a Green Bay defender. I knew a flag would be tossed, but none was. I got up furious at the lack of a call, waving my arms and shouting wildly. Then I found myself drifting back into the darkness. The next thing I knew, I was in ...

Mattis told the services to conduct a review of the requirements for mandatory force training that does not directly support core tasks, according to a Friday memo obtained by Military Times. In other words, Mattis wants a full examination of all the hours of burdensome, irrelevant training service members have to undergo before deployment. I want to verify that our military policies also support and enhance warfighting readiness and force lethality, Mattis said. Mattis also asked for a review into what should be done about permanently non-deployable service members. The memo states that the review will be headed by a working group under the Pentagons ...

Accusations of incompetency can undermine even the most talented of politicians. Just ask George W. Bush (Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina) or Barack Obama (HealthCare.Gov). But while the events and news over the last 24 hours seem like just another day for the Trump White House, they expose a level of dysfunction and chaos that could leave a lasting mark for a president who said back in February that he was running a fine-tuned machine. Consider: The White House couldnt say what happens to the transgender Americans who are currently serving in the U.S. military after Trump announced that they couldnt serve in any capacity. (Thats something that the ...

In recent years its become increasingly difficult for ordinary Americans to ignore the fact that their local police departments are becoming militarized. Just a couple generations ago, the police were armed with pretty much the same weapons that civilians could own. They drove vehicles that, without decals and sirens, wouldnt be out of place at an ordinary car dealership. They wore uniforms that were comparable to clothes worn by other civilian government employees. Now they carry assault rifles, drive armored vehicles, and on occasion they wear camouflage. They look and sometimes act, just like soldiers in a warzone. So what made our police departments so militarized? You can ...

Did you see the $2 million dollar bathroom? That's what New York City government spent to build a "comfort station" in a park. I went to look at it. There were no gold-plated fixtures. It's just a little building with four toilets and four sinks. I asked park users, "What do you think that new bathroom cost?" A few said $70,000. One said $100,000. One said, "I could build it for $10,000." They were shocked when I told them what the city spent. No park bathroom needs to cost $2 million. An entire six-bedroom house nearby was for sale for $539,000. Everything costs more when government builds it. "Government always pays above-average prices for ...
