Muslim Students at Catholic University Complain Christmas Gets Too Much Attention Um, how is that surprising at a Christian school? Post Date: 2017-12-09 10:01:04 by IbJensen

Muslim students who knew they were enrolling into a Catholic university are now expressing dismay that come Christmas time, the campus is decorated for the holiday season. They want Islamic holidays to receive the same attention even though they represent just a small fraction of the entire student population. Loyola University Chicago is 60% Catholic and 40% a mixture of other religions, including other Christian denominations, Jewish, etc. The individual categories arent broken down. However, out of a total of 16,673 students for this academic year, only about 800 Muslims are enrolled. Thats less than 5%, yet, they want their traditions to be represented equally. A piece ...

Sanders remains under federal investigation for a land deal she made as president of Burlington College in Vermont in 2010.) A federal investigation launched in 2016 into possible bank fraud by Jane Sanders, wife of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, is still underway -- with a potential grand jury review possible. The probe could thwart Sanders 2020 presidential ambitions -- as well as the Vermont political plans of Jane Sanders' daughter, Carina Driscoll. Individuals questioned by the FBI confirmed to ...
Where Is Trump's Infrastructure Plan? Post Date: 2017-12-08 17:51:53 by Willie Green

He promised one within 100 days of taking office. It's now day 322.
Infrastructure was essential to Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. His enthusiasm for a $1 trillion building plan to overhaul America’s roads, bridges, and other vital facilities set him apart from his spending-shy Republican opponents, and the idea was also popular with voters. Last November, just after his electoral victory, he promised to have an infrastructure bill before Congress in his first 100 days in office. In a February speech to Congress, he reaffirmed his commitment to fast action on infrastructure.
But 100 days in, Trump had yet to release even a rough draft of his infrastructure plan. In May, the White House ...
Appeals Court: Forcing A Teen To Masturbate So Cops Can Take Pictures Is A Clear Violation Of Rights [Full Thread] Post Date: 2017-12-08 09:33:42 by Deckard

from the well-no-shit dept I cannot imagine what it must be like as an appellate court judge to have to write these words (h/t Brad Heath): Construing the facts in the light most favorable to [Trey] Sims, a reasonable police officer would have known that attempting to obtain a photograph of a minor childs erect penis, by ordering the child to masturbate in the presence of others, would unlawfully invade the childs right of privacy under the Fourth Amendment. I don't know which is sadder: the fact that this case -- the absolute nadir (so far!) of stupid teen sexting prosecutions -- even exists or that the lower court somehow found in favor of the officer (now deceased) ...
Report: Pennsylvania State Police Academy fostered cheating Post Date: 2017-12-08 08:20:14 by Deckard

State Police Academy instructors helped create a climate of cheating by sharing answers with cadets and using the same testing material for decades, allowing graduating classes to pass down study guides to newer cadets, a special state investigation shows.Released Friday by the Office of Inspector General, the report also faulted instructors for using outdated lessons and for giving tests that failed to keep pace with current law or American Red Cross first aid regulations. The investigation, which involved 8,160 man-hours and 105 interviews, was conducted following a public cheating and discrimination scandal involving a 2015-16 cadet class at the storied institution outside ...
Innocent, Sober Man Jailed for 5 Months Because Negligent Cops Thought He Was Drunk Post Date: 2017-12-08 08:16:41 by Deckard

Macungie Township, PA Imagine being imprisoned for being completely innocent and one hundred percent free of drugs and alcohol in ones system. While there are many who may be tempted to think it could never happen to them, to Wilfredo Ramos Jr., the possibility quickly became a reality. Ramos was arrested and spent five months behind bars for being completely sober. Problems with law enforcement agents started for Ramos when he was stopped by Pennsylvania State Highway Trooper Justin M. Summa and Kevin Vanfleet on June 16, 2014. He was on his way to visit his mother when he was pulled over near Schantz Road in Upper Macungie Township. Summa believed he smelled alcohol ...

The Oregon engineering board fined Mats Järlström for exercising his First Amendment rights. Now, finally, it admits it's not allowed to do that.Image courtesy Institute for JusticeMore than three years after it targeted Mats Järlström for, essentially, doing math without a license, the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying has admitted they were wrong to do so. As Reason has previously reported, Järlström landed in the board's crosshairs in 2014, after his wife received a traffic ticket in Beaverton, Oregon. A trained electronics engineer, Järlström had used his knowledge to critique the timing of the red light ...

SCOTUS To Lower Courts On The Travel Ban: Knock It Off Post Date: 2017-12-07 09:49:26 by IbJensen

The U.S. Supreme Court appears somewhat irritated with federal courts that have repeatedly barred the Trump administration from enforcing immigration policies halting the entry of certain classes of migrants and refugees. The high courts latest orders sent three clear signals to lower courts, all of which are positive signs for President Donald Trump. First, the Supreme Court is quite clearly expressing its view that the government will prevail on the merits of this dispute. The Court would not grant an application with these facts if a majority of the justices did not believe the administration will ultimately be vindicated. As such, the orders appear to be a signal to the 4th and ...

A criminal justice system that operates in the dark is arbitrary, unjust and criminal. In Oklahoma this year, a Kafkaesque set of sealed motions, secret orders and closed-door hearings completely shut out a criminal defendant, his public defenders and the public. A trial judge served as handmaiden for the prosecutors, even failing to notify the defendant and his lawyers of the kangaroo court proceedings until after they had occurred. The defendant, who is appealing his convictions and maintains his complete and actual innocence, was denied an opportunity to challenge the state's legal arguments for hiding information about a crime lab analyst's shoddy work on his case that could ...
Wedding Cakes Have Nothing To Do With Free Speech Post Date: 2017-12-07 08:26:01 by Deckard

Authored by Jacob Hornberger via Ther Future of Freedom Foundation, The New York Times recently carried an interesting article on the wedding-cake controversy that is now before the U.S. Supreme Court. The article pointed out that prominent lawyers who specialize in First Amendment cases are vexed by the controversy. The facts of the case are simple: A Colorado bakeshop refused to create a wedding cake for a gay couple. The state charged the baker with unlawful discrimination. Those vexed lawyers are having trouble deciding whether the baker has a First Amendment right to refuse to create a wedding cake for the gay couple. Some of them say yes and some say no.Floyd Abrams, who ...

When Alex Bowen, who described himself as pretty inebriated, stopped at a Waffle House in South Carolina at 3 AM, he stood at the register for 10 minutes, awaiting service. Finally, he ...went outside to look for an employee, and then went back in. Thats when I got hot on the grill with a Texas bacon cheesesteak melt, said Bowen. He cooked his go-to meal and even cleaned up when he was done. While he was cooking, he saw the one employee who was fast asleep. That worker didnt awaken, despite Mr. Bowens clatter in the kitchen and his taking some selfies to document his drunken escapade. When he posted his pictures on social media, the story went ...
“Zero Evidence”: Former Prosecutor Confirms Mueller Investigation Is A Witch Hunt With No Actual Evidence Of Trump-Russia Collusion Post Date: 2017-12-07 07:06:25 by Deckard

There is no discernible evidence of any conspiracy between Russia and Donald Trump so Robert Mueller is conducting a fishing expedition in a desperate attempt at finding any kind of criminal behavior, according to former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy. While there is already ample evidence that Mueller is nothing more than a deep state operative with the goal of taking out the elected president by any means necessary, the fact that yet another high-profile former prosecutor has publicly come out against his witch hunt just goes to show how bad it has actually gotten. McCarthy made clear that the way that Muellers team is operating is not even ...

What youll learn in this film you wont learn in school
this is perhaps one of the greatest tricks of the elite. Convincing us we are learning what we think is ultimate truth when in reality much of the time they are careful lies. Two conspiracies that are about as big and a globally important as the extraterrestrial coverup are the JFK assassination and what happened in NYC on 9/11. Examining the utter lies of 9/11 and creating media about it has awoken millions and millions of people to the truth of how our world really works behind the curtain. This has been a hugely important event when it comes to that. Recently, the long classified JFK files have ...
Can We Fix Law Enforcement? (It’s Not Much to Ask . . .) Post Date: 2017-12-07 05:12:20 by Deckard

Its fine to talk theory what would be ideal. But while working toward that, what about practical changes that dont require a sea change evolution in consciousness? For example, what can be done in practical terms about law enforcement? That there is a problem is as obvious as Caitlyn Jenners Adams apple. The big problem tyrannical laws based on the tyrannical idea that its legitimate to order people around and abuse them for not causing any harm to anyone isnt going to be solved absent a sea-change evolution in consciousness. But there are some obvious fixes that would make things a lot better right now ...

Several of the police officers who were once praised for protecting citizens by getting guns off of the streets in Baltimore are now facing federal charges after it was revealed they were stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and firearms from innocent citizens. Baltimores Gun Trace Task Force was once considered an elite group of officers who raided homes across the city, in search of illegal firearms. Now, Sgt. Thomas Allers has become the ninth officer to face charges in relation to his work with the group. Allers was the supervisor of the task force, and he is charged with stealing more than $100,000 during a three-year period. He is expected to plead ...

Meet the Special Interests Keeping Marijuana Criminalized Post Date: 2017-12-05 08:56:51 by Deckard

Americans overwhelmingly agree that marijuana should be legal, so why isn't it? So glad you asked... In this era of political polarization, when Americans seem to agree on absolutely nothing, let me reassure you. We overwhelmingly agree that cannabis should be legal. 1 in 5 Americans have (state) legal access, 1 in 2 have experimented with it, and more than 1 in 10 smoke regularly. Southern California yuppies are publicly winning prizes for growing the same plant that landed Georgia teenagers in prison. Half of states allow at least limited use, and a few attract elite cannabis tourism. Federally, the drug remains fiercely criminalized, despite irrefutable ...

Volkswagen AG executive Oliver Schmidt is due to be sentenced this week for cheating Uncle. He faces seven years in federal prison and up to $400,000 in fines. His professional life is, of course, kaput. He will never work again. Starbucks, perhaps. And his personal life is probably ruined, too. Not many wives stand by their convicted felon. Schmidt is only 48 years old and his life is over. All because he along with other VW executives and engineers cheated on federal emissions tests, which amounts to the same thing as making a right turn on red when theres clearly no traffic around. A violation of statute; no actual harm caused to ...

The quick resolution of Phil Parhamovich's case shows once again that standing up to money-grabbing bullies can pay off.Institute for JusticePhil Parhamovich went to court in Wyoming on Friday, hoping to convince a judge that he deserved a new hearing on the question of whether the state gets to keep the $91,800 that police took from him during a traffic stop last March. Instead the judge ordered the return of Parhamovich's money after he testified that it belonged to him and he had no desire to surrender it. Attorney General Peter Michael said his office will return the money rather than pursue the case further. Parhamovich, a Wisconsin musician, was on tour when he was pulled over ...

The Supreme Court is expected to take up this week the case over whether a Colorado baker discriminated against a gay couple because he declined to bake a cake for their wedding. The case Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission asks the high court to balance the religious rights of the baker against the couples right to equal treatment under the law. Similar disputes have popped up across the U.S. The decision to take on the case reflects renewed energy among the court's conservative justices, whose ranks have recently been bolstered by the addition of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the high court. Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in ...

Goat Yoga Gets Baaaaaa-nned By D.C. Twits Post Date: 2017-12-04 07:29:05 by Deckard

Good, old-fashioned goats and the ancient Hindu practice of yoga are two things that don't seem to go together. And yet, last year, a small farm in Corvallis, Oregon started offering classes that combined the two. Goat yoga is exactly what it sounds like: the practice of yoga in the presence of goats. Soon these classes had a 900-person waiting list for an hour of ritual calisthenics with a bunch of horned ruminants. Within a year, the unlikely trend had spread across the nation. "We would go through the different asanas and the different flows," explains Amanda Bowen, a goat-yoga instructor with GoatToBeZen in Maryland, "and the goats will come around and interact ...
