New York's State Liquor Authority has started proceedings that could cost Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and the Beacon Theater their liquor licenses over the use of facial recognition software to ban attorneys who are involved in litigation against the venues or their owner, James Dolan. The agency has levied administrative charges against venues operated by Dolan's corporate entity, Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp.; and if the push is successful, that will mean no liquor sales at sporting events or performances, reports the New York Post. Based on mounting evidence that minors are especially susceptible to false confessions, criminal justice reformers in several states are demanding tighter rules for juvenile interrogations. The latest such push is happening in New York, where reformers hope to pass legislation requiring that minors have access to legal counsel prior to police interviews. NetChoice Seeks Injunction Against California's Disastrous Internet Law Post Date: 2023-03-10 01:39:40 by Charles_Byrd

NetChoice, a trade association that represents tech firms, has sued to block California's Age-Appropriate Design Code Act (A.B. 2273), the state's hamfisted attempt to protect children online. As NetChoice writes in a request for a preliminary injunction filed last month, the law violates the Constitution by "enact[ing] a system of prior restraint over protected speech using undefined, vague terms, and creat[ing] a regime of proxy censorship, forcing online services to restrict speech in ways the State could never do directly." The law will require any business (as defined by California statute) offering online services "likely to be accessed by children" to ...

Oregon has one of the country's most centralized systems of land use planning, and some of the tightest local regulations on homebuilding. State lawmakers are now proposing to use the former to overcome the latter. Working its way through the state Legislature with bipartisan support this year is H.B. 2001. It would require cities and counties to hit state-set housing production goals for both market-rate housing and subsidized affordable housing. Click for Full Text!

During his Fox News show on Monday night, Tucker Carlson presented surveillance video from the U.S. Capitol on the day of the January 6 riot, which he obtained from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (RCalif.), as evidence that the conventional depiction of that event is misleading. He noted that Democratic politicians, journalists, and commentators have routinely described the breach of the Capitol as "a deadly insurrection." His assessment: "Everything about that phrase is a lie. Very little about January 6th was organized or violent. Surveillance video from inside the Capitol shows mostly peaceful chaos." According to a New York Times article about the controversy ...
