The editor of the disgraced entertainment magazine, Noah Shachtman, removed a key line from a story about James Gordon Meek, the former top producer at ABC News whom FBI agents arrested in February. Kids Are Stealing Hyundais and Kias. Government Officials Blame Hyundai and Kia—and TikTok. Post Date: 2023-03-22 23:40:17 by Charles_Byrd

All across the country, young people are stealing cars and taking them for joyrides, including teenagers who don't have driver's licenses. The trend is dangerous, having resulted in at least 14 recent crashes and eight deaths. And government officials in New York and California know exactly who to blame: carmakers. And for good measure, TikTok. In July 2022, a TikTok user posted a video with the hashtag #kiaboyz in which young men steal a Kia using a USB cable. "You don't need a key, bro," one says as he uses the cable's plug to start the car. Known as the "Kia Challenge," the video went viral, and copycats followed. As the video demonstrated, certain ...

A Kansas bill banning transgender athletes from girls and womens sports was vetoed by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly for the third year in a row Friday, setting up a hotly contested fight in the Republican-controlled Legislature to override her. Kellys action was expected because of her two previous vetoes. Kansas Republicans made Kellys vetoes a major issue in multiple television attack ads when she ran for reelection last year, winning narrowly. Click for Full Text!

In the hours after Silicon Valley Bank collapsed on March 10, Pentagon officials who work directly with startups that develop national-security technologies grew increasingly concerned. Would startups that had money in the bank need to stop work? If that happened, would there be supply-chain disruptions? Would a company under financial stress put its intellectual property at risk? States Try to Reform Prostitution Laws—for Better and Worse Post Date: 2023-03-17 18:59:28 by Charles_Byrd

State lawmakers in at least six states have recently introduced bills related to sex work. Some of these measures would decriminalize prostitution, while others would stipulate stronger criminal penalties for prostitution. States considering the former have the right idea. Decriminalizing prostitution has been linked to an array of positive outcomes, from lower rates of sexual violence and sexually transmitted infections overall to less violence against sex workers. It means fewer law enforcement resources wasted on policing consensual activity between adults, freeing up time and money for stopping and solving serious crimes. It's supported by organizations including Amnesty ...

Nicholas Chappelle spent almost a year in an Oregon prison after he was wrongfully convicted of driving with a suspended license. The reason for his incarceration? A shoddy DMV database. And the worst part is he's not alone. While it's unclear just how many Oregonians have been wrongfully arrested or convicted due to errors in the database, at least 3,000 licenses have been mislabeled as indefinitely suspended. At least five wrongful arrests or convictions have been identified. Click for Full Text!

HOW GAY MARRIAGE CHANGED AMERICA Post Date: 2023-03-15 18:18:32 by Charles_Byrd

In November 2022, the ACLUs deputy director for transgender justice came out against gay marriage. I find it disappointing how much time and resources went into fighting for inclusion in the deeply flawed and fundamentally violent institution of civil marriage, Chase Strangio wrote on Instagram. Two months later, Taylor Silverman, a female skateboarder who gained prominence after objecting to the inclusion of biological males in womens athletic competitions, criticized gay marriage from the opposite direction: I used to think gay marriage was ok until all of the things that conservatives warned us would happen next actually happened. Now it seems it really was ...

Should a biological male who identifies as a female be permitted to compete against a biological female in public-school sports? The State of West Virginia has asked the Supreme Court to vacate an injunction entered by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in an important case involving transgender participation in womens sports in public schools. The case revolves around a West Virginia law, known as the Sports Act, which was passed to ensure equal opportunities and fair play for all student athletes. In essence, the Act requires public schools to designate sports teams based on biological sex at birth, and ensures that biological males ...

One could only imagine the attitude of the usual pro-abortion newspapers The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Texas Tribuneif a judge they liked asked the parties involved in a an abortion case not to tell the world of the timing of their first appearance in court. But if they disapproveas they most certainly do of U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Kacsmarykthere is nothing he could say or do that would not be very irregular, or part of a series of highly unusual steps, or unprecedented. So what was Judge Kacsmaryks motive in what the newspapers insist is limiting transparency? Click for Full Text!
Parents' Statutory 'Bill of Rights': A massive transfer of power over children from parents to government Post Date: 2023-03-13 01:29:06 by Charles_Byrd

On February 2 of this year (2023), the North Carolina Senate passed SB 49, which bears the deceptive title of "Parents' Bill of Rights." It transfers massive open-ended powers over children to the federal and state governments and to the "governing body" of the school. The parents are "granted" enumerated rights [1], and every such right is qualified by exceptions which may be carved out at any time by the various levels of government. This is a profoundly evil piece of work; and if it passes the House, parents in North Carolina with minor children would be wise to consider leaving the state and taking their children with them. Civilizations (and nations) ...

The Kentucky State Senate passed a bill Friday that would be the nation's second ban on drag performances in front of children. The state joins neighboring Tennessee, which passed the first law limiting such shows from being held in public places or private venues with minors present. The bill, which passed 26-6 along party lines with one abstention, bans "adult performances," defined as "live sexually explicit performance ... or a live performance involving male or female impersonators, who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest in sexual conduct, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration, which taken as a whole lacks serious literary, ...

Pennsylvania is considering a bill that would require parents to receive vaccine information from a medical professional in order to submit an objection to school vaccine requirements. Senate Bill 390 would mandate that parents submitting a religious or moral objection to vaccine requirements obtain certification from a person authorized to administer vaccines that the person has provided the parent with scientifically accepted information about the risks and benefits of vaccines. The state currently requires only a signed letter from parents stating their moral or religious objection to the vaccine. Click for Full Text!

Five owners of restaurants in Boston's North End, a historically Italian neighborhood where 88% of residents are white, are suing Mayor Michelle Wu on claims of sexual and ethnic discrimination after her announcement that summer outdoor dining guidelines will prohibit the use of street space for outdoor dining tables in the neighborhood. According to the city's new ordinances, there will be only a few restaurants that will have adequate sidewalk space to allow outdoor dining, which will leave the North End businesses less competitive, reports The Daily Caller.
