Snow's characterization became an issue on Sunday for White House chief of staff Josh Bolten, who struggled on NBC's "Meet the Press" to answer whether Bush agreed with his spokesman that destruction of unwanted fertilized embryos was tantamount to murder? "The president thinks that that embryo, that fertilized embryo, is a human life that deserves protection," Bolten said. "I haven't spoken to him about the use of particular terminology," Bolten said. Said Snow on Monday: "I overstepped my brief there, and so I created a little trouble for Josh Bolten in the interview. And I feel bad about it."

$4 Per Gallon For Gas? Experts Say That Will Likely Be The Price Before Summer's End (CBS) CHICAGO With the conflict in the Middle East escalating, gas prices are inching toward $4 per gallon. As CBS 2s Holly Gregory reports, even though the price of crude oil dropped overnight Tuesday, a break in gas prices is not expected. With violence raging in Israel and Lebanon and higher demand for gas in the summer, $4 per gallon is a very real possibility. Not too long ago, gas was only 99 cents a gallon, but prices have risen steadily in recent years. It was only a few years ago that prices of less than $2 a gallon were the norm. Drivers are not the only ones feeling pain at the pump. ...

The Great Test of This Generation Naming and defeating the enemy, Islamic fascism. An NRO Primary Document Editors note: This is the text of a speech Sen. Rick Santorum (R., Pa.) delivered at the National Press Club Thursday. When I came to Washington in 1990 Karen and I were expecting our first child. Like most Americans we were worried about a slowing economy, competition from Japan and the high deficit. But we were also relieved by the end of the Cold War and talk of a peace dividend. In the 1990s I felt my job representing Pennsylvania in Congress was important, but in retrospect the issues confronting us were not relative to what we are confronted with today. In 16 years ...
NEW YORK DOLLS DUE JULY 25TH - FIRST IN 32 YEARS Post Date: 2006-07-21 23:03:20 by TLBSHOW

With Arthur Kane gone, it's just David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain from the original glam-bam brat pack, and some cultists may have a problem with "authenticity." But get over it: This first new Dolls album in 32 years is not just a legitimate entry in their catalog, it's a great one. Johansen, apparently having bathed in the fountain of youth, still spits out syllables like a teen with the munchies eating beef jerky. Having acquired decades of wisdom, his new lyrics manage to capture an adult sense of rock'n'roll community one had forgotten could even exist in this, as one title puts it, "Punishing World." Few lyricists are as shrewd as Johansen, making the ...

ORLANDO, Fla. - Mickey Mouse made this medium-sized city loom much larger in the public eye than its population would suggest, but this year it has been running up a big-city statistic its residents would be better off without. In less than seven months this city of about 215,000 reported 33 homicides, more than it's seen in any full year except one. It's only three shy of its 1982 record, and on pace to have one of the 15 worst per-capita murder rates in the country. Victims include a 6-year-old apparent child abuse victim who died of severe head injuries and a 22-year-old shot in the back of the head for unknown reasons. Shortly after New Year's, a transient stabbed near a homeless camp ...
Disaster drill preps Los Angeles for the inevitable Post Date: 2006-07-21 14:12:05 by TLBSHOW

Helicopters swooped in and unloaded cops to quell angry crowds -- with batons that never made contact and rubber bullets that were only props in a disaster response drill. Federal military and Southern California law enforcement teamed up for an elaborate simulation of a disaster response system that authorities hope would avoid the horrors following Hurricane Katrina last August. US Marines and navy medics joined Los Angeles police, sheriffs and fire departments, making this one of the first large-scale inter-agency, federal and local training exercises to date. The three-day drill took place on Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base between Orange and Los Angeles Counties, home to ...

BUSH@NAACP: MISSED OPPORTUNITY By Michelle Malkin · July 20, 2006 01:32 PM Via AP, the White House makes nice with the grievance-mongers at the NAACP: Bush Acknowledges Racism Still Exists Full text of the speech is here. What a squandered opportunity. Bush could have hit back hard at the race exploiters who shamelessly accused him of hating black people and suppressing black votes and causing Hurricane Katrina. As for the lingering existence of racism, the President could have used his platform to excoriate NAACP leftists for doing and saying nothing while liberal bigots relentlessly attack minority members of his administration and the Republican Party. Could have. But ...

A powerful storm system pounded the St. Louis area early Wednesday evening, packing wind gusts that pelted people in cars with debris, toppled street lights and snapped branches. At least 385,000 households lost power. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said high winds, lightning and thunderstorms smacked most of the St. Louis metro area from St. Charles County east to Madison County. The storm moved quickly north of St. Louis County, but turned south. Meteorologists said the storm was unusual because "the gust front" blew through the area first, tipping over tractor trailers and shattering car windows, toppling trees and power lines and pushing dust and debris ...

NEW YORK Less than four months before Election Day, the latest FOX News Poll finds that voters strongly favor the Democrats on key issues such as the economy and gas prices, and give the minority party a double-digit lead for control of Congress this fall. For most of President Bushs second term in office, more Americans have said they disapprove than approve of his job performance and that is again the case in this new poll. The presidents approval rating dropped to 36 percent, down from 41 percent approval two weeks ago and 40 percent in mid-June. Bush lost ground this week among some key constituent groups, such as Republicans, whites and men. Overall, 53 percent of ...

The activist, Alan Senitt, was attacked in the Georgetown area on Sunday, his throat was slit and police say the attackers attempted to rape his companion. It was the 13th homicide in the city this month. Robberies are up 14 percent, and armed assaults have jumped 18 percent in the past 30 days. On Wednesday, U.S. Park Police were looking for connections between the latest Mall robberies and three similar incidents in the area in late May. There have ...

They said Shreiteh demanded the boy pay for the yo-yo, but Howard told him it was already opened and he didn't want it. Authorities said Shreiteh ...

Bag Searches Become Routine on NYC Subway It was billed as a necessary counterterrorism tactic after the deadly mass transit bombings in London: Anyone entering the city's sprawling subway system could be subjected to a random search of backpacks, briefcases and shopping bags. One year and countless searches later, the practice once thought of as a temporary imposition, with the potential to trample civil rights, remains in effect and is barely causing a stir. "We consider it a valuable tactic to use," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in a recent interview. "It's not a panacea, it's not a cure-all, but it's another tool in our toolbox." Officials won't say how ...

One former intelligence field officer says, and two other CIA officials confirm, that the alleged plot by Muslim extremists to bomb the Holland Tunnel in New York City was nothing more than chatter by unaffiliated individuals with no financing or training in an open forum already monitored extensively by the United States Government, Raw Story has learned. "The so-called New York tunnel plot was a result of discussions held on an open Jihadi web site," said Philip Giraldi, ...
