John Yoo Wipes the Smirk off Jon Stewart's Face Post Date: 2010-01-14 09:05:31 by dont eat that

On his show last night, Stewart fessed up to having been bested by Yoo, likening the experience to interviewing sand. The reaction from the liberal blogosphere to torture memo author John Yoo's Daily Show appearance last week has been decidedly muted. That's because Yoo badly (but politely) outclassed Stewart in a subtle, thoughtful conversation the latter clearly wasn't prepared to have. While deftly summing up the liberal case against Bush administration interrogation polices, Adam Serwer at The American Prospect blog also offered up a thoroughly damning assessment of Stewart's performance with Yoo: Put simply, Stewart failed to make Yoo look ...

SAN FRANCISCO A proponent of California's same-sex marriage ban warned voters in a letter during the 2008 campaign that gay rights activists would try to legalize sex with children if same-sex couples had the right to wed, according to evidence presented Wednesday in a lawsuit seeking to overturn the measure. San Francisco resident Hak-Shing William Tam, a defendant in the lawsuit, discussed the letter to Chinese-Americans church groups during a legal deposition taped last month. Tam wrote that legalizing same-sex marriage was part of a broader gay agenda. "On their agenda list is: legalize having sex with children," states the letter, which also cautioned that ...

Budget deficit sets December record of $91.85 billion reflecting fallout from deep recession WASHINGTON (AP) -- The federal budget deficit hit an all-time high for the month of December, and the red ink for the first three months of the current budget year is rising at a more rapid pace than last year's record clip. The massive tide of red ink, reflecting the continued fallout from a deep recession and a severe financial crisis, highlights the challenge facing President Barack Obama as he pledges to get control of runaway deficits. The Treasury Department said Wednesday that the deficit last month totaled $91.85 billion, the largest December deficit on record and a bigger imbalance ...

WASHINGTON President Barack Obama says he has not succeeded in bringing the country together, acknowledging an atmosphere of divisiveness that has washed away the lofty national feeling surrounding his inauguration a year ago. "That's what's been lost this year ... that whole sense of changing how Washington works," Obama said in an interview with People magazine. The president said his second-year agenda will be refocused on uniting the country around common values, "whether we're Democrats or Republicans." "We all want work that's satisfying, pays the bills and gives children a better future and security," Obama said in the ...

Five years and $3 billion yields NO embryonic stem cell treatments January 13, 2010 at 12:28 pm by Steve McGough Filed under Featured Leave a comment E-mail Post No cures. No treatments. Californias Prop. 71 initiative that pushed $3 billion in funding towards embryonic stem cell research five years ago has failed. The program promised to release cures and treatments held up by President Bushs stupidity. There have been plenty of advancements including treatments to illness using adult stem cells. Even the Catholic church is a supporter of stem cell research, which many find completely unbelievable since they do not understand the difference between ...

A scuffle broke out as Meehan tried to block McCormack and determine if he was an operative of a rival campaign. Coakley is seen ignoring McCormack. The trip prompted criticism, since Coakley was in Washington seeking money from lobbyists while polls show a tightening ...

On February 17, at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, DC, a young Nigerian terrorist named Farouk Abdul al Faisal attempted to board United Airlines flight 1497 to Stuttgart, Germany. He had eluded detechtion by the FBI, and was not on the Terrorist Watch List. He seemed to have succeeded in his aims. Al Faisal had not counted on an alert TSA employee, as none had been encountered before. TSA agent Michael Trabinney noticed that Faruouks cheeks were puffed out strangely. He pulled the young African aside for further screening and discovered in his mouth a condom filled with black powder and a detonator. Trabinney sounded the alarm and Farouk was arrested. The ...

In a sign of serious worry about the increasingly tense battle for Ted Kennedys seat, the Democratic National Committee and the Martha Coakley campaign have blasted a private memo to top national Dem donors claiming internal polling shows the race is very tight and making an urgent appeal for donations. The memo, which was sent over by a source, is the latest sign that the campaign surge of GOPer Scott Brown has caught the Dem establishment off guard. It admits that the mobilization by big national conservative groups for Brown is working and acknowledges that the Dem camaign is having trouble moving independents. Our internal ...

A potential wave of new regulation and higher taxes may be scaring many businesses from hiring, prolonging any rebound in employment, say business groups and economists. The prospect of increased federal and state regulation and taxes has been particularly disruptive to the hiring plans of small- and medium-sized businesses, which have historically generated about two-thirds of the nations jobs. Hunt for Osama Over? Obama Steers Clear of Bin Laden References Post Date: 2010-01-13 03:53:06 by WhiteSands

Terrorism and the national security agenda continue to define U.S. foreign policy, as they did during the Bush administration. Yet there is one person who is missing from the language of President Obama and his advisers -- Osama bin Laden, the FBI's most-wanted terrorist. Former President Bush defined his war on terror in light of bin Laden. He famously pronounced in December 2001 that he wanted the al Qaeda mastermind captured "dead or alive." So, too, did Obama when he was running for president. In a debate on Oct. 7, 2008, he declared, "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority." He kept up that strong ...

The labour force contracted by 661,000. This did not show up in the headline jobless rate because so many Americans dropped out of the system. The broad U6 category of unemployment rose to 17.3pc. That is the one that matters. Wall Street rallied. Bulls hope that weak jobs data will postpone monetary tightening: a silver lining in every catastrophe, or perhaps a further exhibit of market infantilism. The home foreclosure guillotine usually drops a year or so after people lose their job, and exhaust their savings. The local sheriff will escort them out of the door, often with some sympathy just like the police in 1932, mostly Irish Catholics who tithed 1pc of their pay for ...

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, the man charged with trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane on December 25, pleaded not guilty Friday to six federal charges. AbdulMutallab was arraigned in a Michigan federal courtroom Friday afternoon. The court hearing came a day after President Obama released a report on the incident that said officials had "sufficient information" to have foiled the failed attack that but a variety of errors kept investigators from uncovering the plot. AbdulMutallab faces a federal indictment issued Wednesday, including an attempt to murder the other 289 people aboard. The seven-page indictment charges AbdulMutallab with attempted use of a weapon of mass ...

Don't expect Chris Simcox to quit this year's Republican Senate race to make way for J.D. Hayworth. Simcox, the founder of the border-watch group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, announced his intention in April to challenge four-term incumbent Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the state's GOP primary. But most of the attention over the past couple of months has centered on Hayworth, a former congressman and current KFYI-AM (550) radio host who is considering his own run. Hayworth, a firebrand on the illegal-immigration issue, and Simcox likely would compete for some of the same voters and campaign contributors. "No way in hell," Simcox told The Arizona Republic when asked ...
Sarah Palin will headline first-ever Tea Party Convention Post Date: 2010-01-07 06:26:39 by A K A Stone

Almost 1-1/2 years since she shook up American politics with her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is set to headline another landmark political event: the first-ever Tea Party Convention next month in Nashville, Tenn. On its face, the gig would seem a step down for Ms. Palin, one of conservative Americas most popular and polarizing figures (not to mention major thorn in the side of the Obama White House). But with an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll ranking a generic Tea Party as more popular than either Democrats or Republicans, and Palin herself rivaling the charming Mr. Obama in poll popularity, many ...

Legislation intended to reform Wall Street and protect consumers is currently waddling along in the House of Representatives, moving as best a 1,200-page document can. Bloomberg columnist David Reilly decided to read all of HR 4173 (the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act) and found plenty of gristle among its provisions that could make any taxpayer ill. For instance, the bill authorizes the Federal Reserve to provide up to $4 trillion in emergency funding if the financial sector collapses again. Representing more than twice as much that the federal government spent on the current crisis, the money would not be released unless there is at least a 99% ...
The UN and Interpol How the UN will gain power Post Date: 2010-01-07 06:02:52 by A K A Stone

It is interesting that the man who cast aside the US Constitution like a rag, and imposes his own laws without consent, has agreed to allow an international police authority to overrule the US government. Barack Obama signed an Executive Order giving express permission for Interpol to supersede the laws and police authorities of the USA. Some have seen this as heralding loss of sovereignty. The truth is, the USA already lost it when it voted for Obama. Before the election he promised to hand over sovereignty to the UN, and this will indeed occur if the people allow him to carry on implementing his own Executive Orders without the consent of Congress or the people! Interpol Interpol ...

Watch as arrogant police hide from and lie to the public. Watch the one member of the secret police barely open his window - then close it as reporters came over. Remember public funds are paying this arrogant secret police-person's salary and for the cruiser he's driving and the window he closed on the reporter in order to hide his face. Notice how they made up stories about FAA flight restrictions. Great reporting. Horrible police department because their actions demonstrate an US vs. THEM mentality with regards to the public. There's an old saying the police should remember - "don't bite the hand that feeds you." Perhaps this video will show how serious ...

Ann Coulter is against body scans because she doesn't think they'll find anal bombs. Speaking on Fox News' O'Reilly Factor Tuesday night, Coulter declared she was opposed to the Transportation Security Administration's new push to add body scanners to airports in an effort to detect terrorist's explosive ...
To Hell With Standards....We Want More Minorities......Chicago Police To Scrap Entrance Exams Post Date: 2010-01-07 05:35:05 by A K A Stone

The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam, sources tell Fran Spielman. Dropping the exam would bolster minority hiring and avert legal battles, according to one source, while others confirm that the exam could be scrapped to open the process to as many people as possible. However, the lack of an exam would make Chicago the lone major city without one, and experts contend that the exam is integral to eliminating unqualified applicants. The CPD has tried in recent years to boost minority hiring by offering the police exam online and turning to minority clergy to help in the recruitment effort. But those efforts have met with frustration. ...
