Left-wing talking heads wrongly blame Andrew Breitbart while helping Anthony Weiner spread his lies Post Date: 2011-06-09 08:18:59 by no gnu taxes

Following the salacious tweets and Facebook posts seen by just about anyone with an Internet connection, it has been astounding to watch certain members of the mainstream media defend Rep. Anthony Weiner by either uncritically reporting his own lie that his account was "hacked," blaming the scandal on someone else (i.e., blogger Andrew Breitbart) or simply ignoring it altogether. Start with CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, who opined, "In his [Weiner's] defense, the person behind this is Andrew Breitbart . . . and his stories tend to fall apart." So rather than examine Weiner, whose account was, of course, never hacked, many members of the media focused on the ...
Amtrak: The Great American Train Wreck [Full Thread] Post Date: 2011-06-09 03:36:02 by socalv8

Amtrak trains make passes by my office a few times day as they travel to and from Niagara Falls and points north, including Toronto. Despite the fact that the Falls is one of the most popular tourism destinations on the planet and the rail system stretches across an international border to a region ripe with economic activity, its very rare that I see anyone in the passenger cars. Its patently obvious that public transportation via rail is unpopular, if not useless, in the United States. Thats more than just an anecdotal observation; the proof is in the statistics. According to Amtrak, 78,000 passengers travel on their network daily. Considering we are a nation of ...
Obama's Worst Week, Pawlenty's Best Post Date: 2011-06-09 03:28:40 by socalv8

If next year the American people pull the plug on the Obama presidency, mark down the past week as the beginning of the end . . . and what looks like the real beginning of Tim Pawlenty's candidacy. Incumbency isn't merely a function of political inevitability but of the fact that a presidency commands potent tools of self-restoration. Barack Obama's decision to kill Osama bin Laden was one such weapon. But we now see that this welcome May Surprise was insufficient to thwart the one force bigger than the American presidencythe U.S. economy. As of this week, it's looking like a long mudslide through the economy to November 2012. The Washington Post/ABC poll out Tuesday ...

MILWAUKEE Chaos on the school bus and the I-Team catches it all. Our story starts with a fed up mom. She says her little girl who is only 4 years old is hit, tormented, has her glasses broken by other kids and that it happens all the time. She says MPS hasn't done anything about it so I-Team reporter Rob Koebel takes the case and wait till you see what your tax dollars are paying for now. A school bus ride that is out of control, little children in danger ride after ride. We follow the girls entire bus ride cameras rolling. We spot bus number 83. On board -- a little 4 year-old girl. One day last winter, I went out to eat at this Vietnamese joint Ive been eyeing for years. The next day, there was an epic earthquake in Japan; the quake led to a tsunami killing thousoands, and the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear reactor. I guess I wont eat at that restaurant again. God only knows whatll happen. In related news, Joan Walsh at Salon reports on yesterdays tenth anniversary of the Bush Tax Cuts: I know, a congressman confessed to Tweeting a crotch shot to a woman who is not his wife, along with other online indiscretions that may wreck his marriage. Thats big news. [Or is it? - Ed.] The 10th anniversary of tax cuts that helped ...
Bachmann Aides: Palin "Unstable" Post Date: 2011-06-08 13:14:42 by go65

Rep. Michele Bachmanns prospective 2012 campaign appears increasingly set on a collision course with former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The coming confrontation is being driven by a belief in Bachmanns camp that the same grassroots, conservative primary voters and caucus-goers may have to choose between the two womenand that they will choose Bachmann if she presents herself as a more seasoned, reliable, and serious conservative than her high-profile rival. The apparent effort to draw distinctions broke into the open Tuesday when her new top strategist, Ed Rollins, dismissed Palin as not serious in a radio interview. He suggested in an interview with POLITICO ...

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain will headline a Wednesday rally in downtown New York to protest a regional global warming compact. Cain joins the Koch-affiliated Americans for Prosperity's rally, which is scheduled for noon and is expected to draw a couple of hundred tea party supporters who want to put an end to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. AFP last month notched a big win when it got New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to drop out of the 10-state cap-and-trade program for power plants. Now, AFP is looking for more states to take Christie's lead. Mike Proto, the group's spokesman, said Cain is the only GOP White House contender to accept a request to speak at ...
Does Hillary Have a Lesbian Connection to Weinergate? Post Date: 2011-06-08 11:15:28 by no gnu taxes

People are motivated to follow their darker instincts by lust for money, power, or sex. In mid-2007, rumors started to circulate about Huma Abedin a stunningly beautiful staffer working for Hillary Clinton. The wagging tongues of Washington asked logical questions about Huma. If Hillary is bisexual (as had long been thought and occasionally uttered in public), what is the nature of her relationship with the dark eyed enchanting Abedin, a young lady from a strict Muslim family? Is the fact that Huma was never seen twice in the same designer outfit and lived in a $649,000 condo explainable because she was trading sexual favors with Hillary for a fabulous lifestyle? If so what does that ...
NJ Court: No Shield Law For Message Board Posters Post Date: 2011-06-08 11:03:12 by Brian S

(06-07) 16:03 PDT Trenton, N.J. (AP) -- People who post to online message boards don't have the same protections as mainstream journalists when it comes to keeping their sources secret, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. The court said in a unanimous ruling against a Washington state woman that New Jersey's shield law provides broad protection to the news media and is not limited to traditional news outlets like newspapers and magazines, but does not apply to message board posters. "To ensure that the privilege does not apply to every self-appointed newsperson, the Legislature requires that other means of disseminating news be `similar' to traditional news ...
Top GOP Lawmaker Refutes Tea Party Claims About The Debt Ceiling Post Date: 2011-06-07 20:24:10 by Brian S

In an interview released by ABC News Monday, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said that he had no reason to doubt Treasury Secretary Tim Geithners warning that the U.S would start defaulting on its obligations if the debt limit was not raised by Aug. 2. Secretary Geithner feels August 2 is his deadline, Cantor told ABC News Jonathan Karl. I dont question the Secretary of the Treasury other than to say were trying to get in place real spending reductions trillions of dollars of spending reductions if the president wants us to increase the credit limit of this country by trillions of dollars. Cantors message seemed to be at odds ...

Via the Daily Caller and Politico, if jabs like this are already being thrown before Palins even in the race, how brutal will things be in six months when the two of them and Herman Cain are battling for the grassroots vote in Iowa? Good lord. Its going to be a long, hot, nasty summer, my friends. Sarah has not been serious over the last couple of years, Rollins told Brian Kilmeade on his radio show, Kilmeade and friends. She got the Vice Presidential thing handed to her, she didnt go to work in the sense of trying to gain more substance, she gave up her governorship.

Short-term frustration for long-term gain." Woods has been struggling with injuries to his left knee and Achilles' tendon. He will miss the U.S. Open for the first time since 1994. The Masters is now the only major he has never missed since turning professional in 1996.

Applying for welfare in Florida? Here. Go pee in this bottle. Post Date: 2011-06-07 16:31:32 by no gnu taxes

That sound you hear is the ACLU howling in protest. Florida Governor Rick Scott, a Republican, just signed a bill that requires welfare applicants to get drug tested. The theory behind it is that if taxpayers are required to get drug tested at work, then the people supported by their tax dollars should be required to meet the same strict standards. Seems fair to us. drug-test CBS Miami has the pee particulars: The bill also requires that those who apply for welfare must pay for the drug testing out of their own pockets. However, the cost would be reimbursed if the person passes the drug test. Republicans said the measure was needed because if taxpayers are screened at their place of ...

Chrysler has repaid every dime and more of what it owes American taxpayers for their support during my presidency. President Obama, June 4, 2011 This post has been updated. With some of the economic indicators looking a bit dicey, President Obama traveled to Ohio last week to tout what the administration considers a good-news story: the rescue of the domestic automobile industry. In fact, he also made it the subject of his weekly radio address. We take no view on whether the administrations efforts on behalf of the automobile industry were a good or bad thing; thats a matter for the editorial pages and eventually the historians. But we are interested in ...
Paul Revere, Sarah Palin and Wikipedia Post Date: 2011-06-07 13:26:29 by go65

The argument over whether Sarah Palin was misinformed about the historical facts of Paul Reveres ride has moved to where bar bets go to be settled: Wikipedia. Since Ms. Palin described the ride last week while she was visiting Boston, Wikipedias Paul Revere article page has been the site of a mini edit war. And the page has gone from a little-visited one 2,000 or so page views a day to a more heavily trafficked one, with54,000 on Saturday when Ms. Palins comments were gaining the most news attention. Over the course of the weekend, people added sentences to the Revere article that repeated Ms. Palins claims. It can be hard to discern ...
Former KKK Organizer Runs For Congress, Believes Obama Backlash Will Work In His Favor Post Date: 2011-06-07 12:58:42 by no gnu taxes

A former organizer for the white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan said Wednesday he is running as a Republican for Congress because he believes people will back him as part of a backlash to Barack Obama, the countrys first black president. But John Abarr, a 41-year-old night auditor at a Great Falls hotel who lost a local Republican legislative primary in 2002, could have a hard time getting any backing from Montana Republicans as he campaigns for the states lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in next years election. His platform promises to legalize marijuana, increase mental health programs, keep abortion legal, abolish the death penalty because he argues ...

Considered a Washington outsider with little name recognition, Herman Cain tried to make his case to conservative Christian voters Saturday, expressing nothing less than confidence. "Stupid people are running America," Cain said at the Faith and Freedom Conference in Washington, according to ABC News. "We will put a conservative in the White House and I've got a good feeling his name is going to be Herman Cain." Cain, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, was the last to speak at the two-day conference. His speech followed that of more recognized GOP presidential hopefuls and candidates such as Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Tim Pawlenty and ...

California's 'Nigger Hill' Outrage Post Date: 2011-06-07 10:59:44 by no gnu taxes

Outrage over the name "Nigger Hill" has prompted officials in California to vote for replacing 36 controversial gravestones that ignited a firestorm across the Golden State. The graves hold the bodies of black pioneers from a California Gold Rush settlement called Negro Hill, which was formed after two African-Americans struck gold there in 1849. The federal government moved the bodies from the El Dorado County mining town in 1954 to make way for a dam. Concrete headstones were erected by the U.S. government declaring that the settlers came from "Nigger Hill". The bigoted text carving was not merely on one gravestone but on 36 consecutive engravings, each one a ...

The public opinion boost President Obama received after the killing of Osama bin Laden has dissipated, and Americans disapproval of how he is handling the nations economy and the deficit has reached new highs, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. The survey portrays a broadly pessimistic mood in the country this spring as higher gasoline prices, sliding home values and a disappointing employment picture have raised fresh concerns about the pace of the economic recovery. By 2 to 1, Americans say the country is pretty seriously on the wrong track, and nine in 10 continue to rate the economy in negative terms. Nearly six in 10 say the economy has not started to ...

How creepy? Creepy enough that ABC posted this footage (which was recorded a few days ago, of course) just within the past hour and then sent around the link via e-mail. I didnt go hunting through their archives for it, in other words; theyre pushing it on people tonight themselves because, understandably, they (a) want to atone for having aired this guys lies as news last week and (b) presumably want the world to see what an almost pathologically fluid liar he was when cornered. The last 80 seconds of it will have you squirming in your seat not only the way he claims to be the innocent target of a hoax but his insistence on lecturing the interviewer for assuming ...
