California air regulators on Friday voted to ban diesel truck sales by 2036. The California Air Resources Board unanimously approved the measure called Advanced Clean Fleets, which would prohibit the sale of new diesel big rigs by 2036 and force trucks to produce zero-emissions by 2042. New commercial trucks, such as garbage trucks, delivery trucks and other medium and heavy-duty vehicles, would need to convert to electric under the rule, CNBC reported. Click for Full Text!
Without Nuclear Power, Germany's Energy Future Looks Short of Energy Post Date: 2023-04-27 00:24:00 by Charles_Byrd

For all of the terrible political decisions made in recent years, it's not often that you get to see a country's government effectively contemplate national suicide. At least, that's the way it feels to watch German officials boldly stumble into the country's energy future, which looks all too much like a future without energy. Berlin politicians' commitment to green ideology, which had already gone down a series of unproductive paths, recently culminated in the closure of Germany's last nuclear power plants without a credible plan for keeping the lights on or the economy producing. Electric Vehicles: Volt Farce Post Date: 2023-04-18 02:11:26 by Charles_Byrd

Central planners have a way of brushing unpleasant and inconvenient questions away without bothering to come to an answer. Those promoting electric vehicles (EVs) are no exception. One of those awkward questions concerns how already shaky electricity grids, undermined by the decarbonization process, are going to cope with the extra demand that will come with EVs. In its latest pro-China, anti-working class move, the Biden administration aims to force two-thirds of new cars to be all-electric by 2032. The Environmental Protection Agency plans to ratchet up emissions standards starting with the 2027 model year to force automakers to sell ever-fewer gas-powered and even hybrid cars. Supposedly 'sustainable' electric cars are getting junked over minor damage Post Date: 2023-03-21 00:07:16 by Charles_Byrd

Insurers are being forced to write off many electric vehicles with only minor damage to battery packs, sending the batteries to scrap yards and hindering the climate benefits of going electric, Reuters reported. Battery packs typically represent roughly half the cost of an electric vehicle, sometimes costing tens of thousands of dollars, often making it more economical for insurers to consider a car as totalled than replace a battery pack, according to Reuters. While many carmakers, including Ford and GM, told Reuters that their battery packs were repairable, many are unwilling to share key data with third-party insurers to help assess damage. California's gasoline-car sales ban now infecting an entire continent Post Date: 2023-02-15 20:33:31 by Charles_Byrd

The European Parliament approved legislation Tuesday that will ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the European Union after 2035. The new legislation mandates that all passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold in the 27 member countries of the European Union (E.U.) have zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2035, a requirement which will effectively ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles in the bloc, Reuters reported. The E.U.s new rules come months after the U.S. states of California and Washington announced similar bans in August 2022 on new gas-powered vehicle sales after 2035, a target that president John Bozzella of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a ...

Gavin Newsom called a special legislative session in December to tax Californias oil refiners out of their "excessive" profits, he was following a well-trod path of Golden State governors blaming the oil and gas industry for the states high energy prices. Geological Study Refutes Green Energy Agenda: Not Enough Metals to Replace Oil Post Date: 2023-02-13 16:16:09 by Charles_Byrd

Many points are made when discussing the green energy agendas infeasibility. It has been noted that wind and solar cant provide our energy needs, that powering the United States with wind would require an area three times Californias size. It has further been asserted that electric-car production and use actually cause more pollution than the gasoline status quo. Its not just that electric vehicles manufacture creates massive releases of CO2 (not a pollutant, mind you), either; its also that the mining of the metals and minerals required for their production causes environmental damage. Yet theres a kicker here, too, a point seldom made: Even if we ...
The deadly reality of eliminating fossil fuels Post Date: 2023-02-11 00:39:15 by Charles_Byrd

It's been interesting to watch the increasing obsession with pushing green energy and the corresponding push-back against fossil fuels. Anyone with a brain knows this is a recipe for disaster, but the world is hurtling down that path anyway. The strange thing is the left doesn't want to wait until the infrastructure is in place to support a smooth transition. No, they want this transition done NOW, the peasants be damned. Electric cars have always been more expensive to buy than the gasoline- powered cars normal people buy thats why electric buyers can also harvest taxpayer subsidies but that initial price was supposed to be offset by much lower operating cost. Fuller a Pioneer of Solar Energy Post Date: 2023-02-06 16:09:15 by Charles_Byrd

Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) was a creative thinker who came up with amazingly innovative ideas. Although he didn't invent the geodesic dome, he recognized its potential, invented the word with which we refer to it today, and popularized it. His "dome" got Fuller a lot of attention. However I would argue that another of his ideas for which he has received little attention and credit was far more important. This idea, which he proposed in the 1930s, was to connect the entire planet into a single electrical grid. Such a grid could help save us from a runaway climate. Click for Full Text!
Of Whales and Wind Farms: Greenpeace Silent on Whale Deaths Linked to Ocean Wind Project Post Date: 2023-02-02 23:05:41 by Charles_Byrd

On Tuesday, the eighth whale since December 5 washed up on the New York/New Jersey shoreline. While officially the cause of the whale deaths is not yet known, many conservationists believe that a massive offshore wind project may be a contributing factor to the deaths of the humpback whales. Greenpeace, an environmental organization who largely made their name and reputation by standing up to commercial whaling vessels, has been oddly silent about the whale deaths. The organizations main fight now seems to be tackling the specious claim that fossil fuel emissions are leading to out-of-control global warming, which some scientists believe is leading to all kinds of chaotic weather, ...

Environmental advocacy groups continue to oppose mining efforts within the US, despite pushing for a green future through electric vehicles that require large amounts of copper and other mined resources. The advocacy groups, the Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Earthjustice and Center for Biological Diversity have pushed to decarbonize the grid and the auto market in the coming years, but continue to advocate against mining projects that would support the green transition. The advocacy groups on Tuesday celebrated the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) Final Determination that restricted the possible mining of 1.4 billion tons of copper, gold, molybdenum, ...

When I talk to fellow economists about fossil fuels and climate change, they sound pretty reasonable. They know that high per-capita GDP is awesome. They know that high per-capita GDP requires a lot of energy. They know that we get almost all of our energy from fossil fuels. They know that solar and wind are currently a grossly inadequate substitute for fossil fuels. But theyre still deeply worried about carbon-fueled climate change, especially extreme tail risk. What, then, is to be done? Click for Full Text!

Swiss Plan Exposes Folly of Relying on Electric Vehicles Post Date: 2022-12-08 21:30:10 by Charles_Byrd

In June of this year, the European Union (EU) placed a ban beginning in 2035 on the sale of new cars with combustion engines. But with winter and potential energy shortages coming, one EU nation, Switzerland, is working on a plan that could ban electric vehicles (EVs) from being used for nonessential journeys. That plan exposes the lie that EVs can be a reliable replacement for gas and diesel-powered transportation. Switzerland is bracing for an energy crisis this winter due to its reliance on imports to sustain the country through the colder months, reported The Telegraph. Click for Full Text!

After Nikola Tesla Proved Wireless Electricity was Possible, A Startup Finally Made it a Reality Post Date: 2020-08-16 18:36:23 by Deckard

Nikola Tesla is not the subject of American social studies or science classes. American children do not learn about him in school and this is in spite of the fact that he is considered one of the most influential scientists ever. His visions were motivated by altruism and providing a benefit to all of humanity, not just those who can afford it. One of the ways Tesla envisioned helping the world was providing it with extremely low-cost, or even free, electricity. But with the cost of wires running across continents, this was a futile task. So, Tesla thought outside of the box getting the wires out of the picture entirely. Now, his vision is finally coming to fruition. In 1901 Tesla ...
2.9 Billion Bird Deaths Linked to Solar, Wind Post Date: 2019-09-23 22:01:44 by Tooconservative

Feathers at the foot of a wind turbine. Bird droppings at the base of a solar panel. A coroner could use these signs to establish the cause of mass bird death. And a novelist could pen a murder mystery titled: Death by Renewable Energy. In 1969, there were far more active coal plants in America than today. However, in 1969, there were also 2.9 billion more birds in America. In the last decade alone, 289 coal plants have closeda 40 percent reduction. Meanwhile, wind turbines and solar panels are going up at a record pace and scientists are reporting a full-blown crisis in the disappearance of 29 percent of North American birds. Cats eat more birds than wind turbines ...
