That's interesting. Wonder if he stops by. It's in this paragraph. Thirdly, and most importantly, Johnsons routine opportunism highlights Gessings most important refutation. Gessing begs the question and claims that Johnson is running as a fiscal conservative now. Gessing thus slides over the many previous contradictions: e.g. does Johnson favor free-trade agreements (as he did here), or would he have vetoed NAFTA (as he suggests here, on the absurd grounds that a law whose effect is felt by business almost entirely in across the board tariff cuts benefits big businesses over small)? Where does he stand on Social Security reform? The lack of a consistent Johnson ...
2017 Bentley Continental Supersports: The Superlative Bentley Post Date: 2017-01-05 22:07:57 by Gatlin

The new 12-cylinder Bentley Continental Supersports is essentially a rolling superlative. Not only is it the most powerful Bentley ever, with its 700- horsepower W-12 engine, its also the quickest and the fastest Bentley ever, with its maker claiming a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 209 mph. Those are the sorts of numbers befitting the Supersports models position above the GT Speed at the top of the Continental hierarchy. Compared with the Speed, the Supersports squeezes another 67 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque out of the twin-turbo 6.0-liter W-12, for totals of 700 hp and a whopping 750 lb-ft. It employs larger turbochargers making more boost and ...

Cars That Broke Bad (Or just Broke) Post Date: 2016-10-31 11:03:21 by Deckard

Automotive good ideas gone bad range far and wide whether its a classic fail like the exploding Pintos of the early 70s or a late-model train wreck like the Pontiac Aztek. Here are ten automotive atrocities that will be remembered for as long as the warranty claims (and class-action lawsuits) linger: * The entire American Motors Corp. (AMC) lineup From dreadful dreadnoughts like the malformed Matador to demented detritus like the Gremlin and Pacer, no other automaker ever managed to build such a seemingly endless conga line of bizarre, poorly conceived (and often, poorly built) cars within such a short span of time (from the late 1960s ...
Small hack to help with DNS probs (for Linux users only) Post Date: 2016-10-21 19:19:07 by Pinguinite

If you have a Linux system, you can circumvent the DNS problems -- a little bit -- through a simple change on your computer. Edit the file "/etc/hosts" Add a line in it for the IP address and domain name that you frequent. So for Libertysflame.com, it would be like this: 72.14.183.194 libertysflame.com You can do the same for www, if needed, like this: 72.14.183.194 www.libertysflame.com Having both lines with the same IP address is fine. You can do the same for any other web sites you frequent. You just have to find out the appropriate IP address for each domain name. One way to do that is to open a console window and type: dig [domainname.com] Or whatever domain name ...
Songs from my band (Avant Garage) Post Date: 2016-10-21 15:04:54 by Deckard

Back in the late 80's and early 90's I was in a band called "Avant Garage". We started out as a cover band, playing bars and clubs in the Minneapolis area, starting out as "The Verselles". We went through several drummers and changed our focus to writing our own songs. Anyways, we recorded a demo tape in 1992 and a few days ago I was going through my cassette collection and discovered the tape. After recording it with Audacity and cleaning up some of the hiss, I put the entire album (10 songs) on SoundCloud. They styles range from power pop to garage, rock, alternative, rockabilly, yet there's a certain cohesion throughout the entire album. In my opinion, ...
Air Force Maj. Harold Hering - An Unsung Hero of the Nuclear Age Post Date: 2016-10-21 07:50:07 by Gatlin

An Unsung Hero of the Nuclear Age Maj. Harold Hering and the forbidden question that cost him his career. It was a risk. Dedicating a book to someone I'd had had a five-minute phone conversation with three decades ago. Someone who, last I'd heard, had become a long-haul trucker and whom I'd given up trying to track down. But I went ahead and dedicated my new book, How the End Begins: The Road to a Nuclear World War III, to Maj. Harold Hering because Maj. Hering sacrificed his military career to ask a Forbidden Question about launching nuclear missiles. A question that exposed the comforting illusions of the so called fail-safe system designed to prevent ...

A University of Houston grad student active in the local Black Lives Matter movement is suddenly all for police patrols in his neighborhood after he was robbed at gunpoint outside his apartment. Jerry Ford Jr., described as one the leaders of the BLM movement on campus, tells KTRK that he spotted the young man loitering outside his apartment one evening last week but thought little of it. But when he went to unlock the door, the man pulled a gun and stole Fords wallet and cell phone. Ford lives at an apartment complex just a few blocks from the UH campus in an area that has seen a spate of robberies and thefts in recent weeks, including the burglary of dozens of vehicles. ...

Gene Wilder Dies at 83; Star of ‘Willy Wonka’ and ‘Young Frankenstein’ Post Date: 2016-08-29 20:47:46 by Stoner

Gene Wilder, who established himself as one of Americas foremost comic actors with his delightfully neurotic performances in three films directed by Mel Brooks; his eccentric star turn in the family classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; and his winning chemistry with Richard Pryor in the box-office smash Stir Crazy, died early Monday morning at his home in Stamford, Conn. He was 83. A nephew, the filmmaker Jordan Walker-Pearlman, confirmed his death in a statement, saying the cause was complications of Alzheimers disease. Mr. Wilders rule for comedy was simple: Dont try to make it funny; try to make it real. Im an actor, ...

THE Punisher has taken no time to settle in to his role and make good on his nickname. Rodrigo Duterte, 71, swept to power in the Philippines seven weeks ago aboard promises of a crackdown on the countrys huge criminal networks. Drug dealers were in his sights. The death toll from his crackdown on that particular industry is nearing 2000, according to some estimates. His next focus: The Philippines own terror network, Abu Sayyaf, a group often referred to as Islamic States baby brother. Abu Sayyaf was started in the 1990s and recently pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. They make their money from kidnappings and ransoms and this week they made ...

In the spring of 1966, riding high on the artistic success of Rubber Soul, the Beatles went into the studio to begin crafting what would become their greatest record. It is spring 1966, and the Beatles are ensconced in Londons EMI Studios, where they have embarked upon their latest manipulation of time. The Christmas season just passed had seen the release of the bands sixth album, Rubber Soul, a game-changer of a disc that wedded American rhythm and blues to English folk music, as if the two genres were meant to go together all along. The Beatles, as the popsmiths-cum-pied pipers for teenyboppers, the lovable lads behind A Hard Days Night, were no more. Their ...

Nicholas Young, 36, of Fairfax, Va., was arrested Wednesday morning at Metro Transit Police headquarters in Washington and his employment was terminated.
