A Charlotte man is behind bars after investigators say he threatened to kill President Obama during the Democratic National Convention. Investigators told WBTV that Donte Jarmar Sims, 21, was arrested on Wednesday, charged in a felony criminal complaint accusing him of threatening the president's life. Friday, WBTV learned Sims is scheduled to be in federal magistrate's court in Charlotte Tuesday morning. The threats were done via Sims' Twitter account on Monday morning. The first tweet was sent out at 10:06 a.m. on Monday when Sims tweeted, "Well Ima Assassinate president Obama this evening !... Gotta get this monkey off my chest while he's in town." "Ima ...

Obama Just Another Ivy League A--hole

John Cusack: 'Is Obama Just Another Ivy League A--hole?' "Is the President just another Ivy League A--hole shredding civil liberties and due process and sending people to die in some s--thole for purely political reasons?" So asked perilously liberal actor John Cusack Saturday in an article published by Truthout: Mr. Obama, the Christian president with the Muslim-sounding name, would heed the admonitions of neither religion's prophets about making war and do what no empire or leader, including Alexander the Great, could do: he would, he assured us "get the job done in Afghanistan." And so we have our democratic president receiving the Nobel Peace Prize as ...

21 Ways Rich People Think Differently

World's richest woman Gina Rinehart is enduring a media firestorm over an article in which she takes the "jealous" middle class to task for "drinking, or smoking and socializing" rather than working to earn their own fortune. What if she has a point? Steve Siebold, author of "How Rich People Think," spent nearly three decades interviewing millionaires around the world to find out what separates them from everyone else. It had little to do with money itself, he told Business Insider. It was about their mentality. "[The middle class] tells people to be happy with what they have," he said. "And on the whole, most people are steeped in fear ...

Paul Ryan’s speech Wednesday night may have accomplished one good thing: It finally may have dispelled the myth that he is a Serious, Honest Conservative. Indeed, Mr. Ryan’s brazen dishonesty left even his critics breathless. Some of his fibs were trivial but telling, like his suggestion that President Obama is responsible for a closed auto plant in his hometown, even though the plant closed before Mr. Obama took office. Others were infuriating, like his sanctimonious declaration that “the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.” This from a man proposing savage cuts in Medicaid, which would cause tens of millions ...

An Infantilizing Speech

Maybe I am getting older and crankier, but that struck me as an exceptionally infantilizing speech that Mitt Romney just gave, politically speaking. There were good bits in it, particularly in the soft-focus autobiographical stuff. He actually sounded like he choked up talking about missing the days when they’d wake up to find a pile of kids in their bedroom. He got a genuine laugh from a genuine joke. I’ve never cared much whether Romney seems “authentic” or “genuine” because those qualities in a politician are faked – what you’re seeing is the ability to seem genuine, seem authentic. If Romney lacks those qualities, they have ...

Speaking of Abortion...

Todd Akin's misguided and incorrect statements about "legitimate rape" has stirred up yet another hornet's nest about America's currently longest lasting polarizing issue -- abortion. We are fortunate today to have much more medical evidence about what really happens in the womb than we had when the Supreme Court overreached and set abortion policy in stone in 1973. Our current medical understanding demonstrates that both sides are incorrect of their view of how a pregnancy starts and how life develops. A pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall. This happens about the 6th day after fertilization. However, half of fertilized eggs ...

Why, As A Conservative, I Don't Hold Out Much Hope For Romney/Ryan

I know, I know, it isn't considered couth to point out the truth about the candidates the GOP opts to run for President. Especially when the "option" is a hard core Marxist like Barack Obama. GOP loyalists have all sorts of wacky excuses to dismiss the truth about their candidates. For example, when I point out that Mitt Romney supports several socialist ideas and governed as a moderate while in Massachusetts, I get the same, tired, excuse that he was just being a "realist". He was governing a "blue state" after all, they say. Of course, my response to that claim is, ok, IF Mitt Romney wins in November BUT in two years Democrats retake the House and Senate ...

Rep. Paul Ryan Isn’t The Savior We Need

Unquiver your arrows all you GOP partisans and blind Republican loyalists! For I am here for you to take shots at. I am painting a big, red bulls-eye on myself for you to attack because I am here to tell you something you do not want to hear; the truth. By now we are all well aware of Representative Paul Ryan’s proposed budget for 2012. We are also all aware of the talking points, especially the one where it would shave over six trillion dollars of federal spending over the next ten years. Those talking points led the American Spectator’s Peter Ferrara to call the Ryan proposal full of, “Real, Powerful Spending Cuts”[1]. But fortunately even Mr. Ferrara, sucked in by ...

Whittaker Chambers said that “the great failing of American conservatives is they do not retrieve their wounded.” He had it right, as Todd Akin can testify. In an interview that aired last Sunday, Akin, the Republican candidate for Senate in Missouri, was asked whether he opposed abortions for women who had been raped. Akin’s reply: “From what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. … If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down … . “But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and ...

After his great victory in Desert Storm, George H.W. Bush went before the United Nations to declare the coming of a New World Order. The Cold War was yesterday. Communism was in its death throes. The Soviet Empire had crumbled. The Soviet Union was disintegrating. Francis Fukuyama was writing of “The End of History.” Savants trilled about the inevitable triumph of democratic capitalism. Yet, in 2012, sectarianism, tribalism and nationalism are all resurgent, reshaping a world where U.S. power and influence are visibly receding. Syria is sinking into a war of all against all that may end with a breakup of the nation along ethno-sectarian lines — Arab, Druze, Kurd, Sunni, ...

Mitt Romney, the liberal Democrat’s choice for president

It was Christmas Holiday party weekend in the neighborhood. Interestingly several folks approached me to say essentially the same thing — “Will you guys* please stop screwing around and just nominate Mitt Romney. Otherwise we’ll be forced to vote for Obama again.” *I’m the token Republican in a sea of blue state leftists, so naturally they think I have some kind of direct pipeline to either GOP or Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Headquarters, or something. If only they knew… Almost unanimously they don’t like Obama. The reasons vary (alas some even feel that he hasn’t driven the country far enough to the left). I heard “weak,” ...

Americans witnessed a remarkable drama this week when some of our most exalted politicians frantically scrambled to reassure voters that they, too, believed that the United States ought to permit the deliberate killing of at least some innocent human beings. They apparently did so to persuade the public they are caring, compassionate and -- above all -- reasonable people. The drama started when Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee in the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, expressed his view that no innocent human being ought to be deliberately killed. However, that was not the only thing Akin expressed. "What about in the case of rape. Should it (abortion) be legal or not?" ...

Here is the simple explanation for what is happening with the the global economy that anybody that can bear to look at and think about can understand. If you follow this to it's logical conclusion, you will understand why there is a push for globalism. I will try to sum that up once I finish explaining the economic reality that is the engine driving it. Economies only thrive when they have such an excess of goods that they can sell them for a profit after meeting the needs of their own people. You have a closed circle when you are only selling to each other and nobody profits unless they steal from their neighbors through laws or taxes. The ONLY way to create the wealth necessary for ...

Who Built America

The rebuilding begins this November. President Obama recently made a stunning remark about business owners in America's free enterprise economy. After dismissing the hard work and ingenuity of successful individuals, the president said, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." Who? Ultimately, the government. Yet this was only the latest version of the president's four-year disparagement of American entrepreneurialism. In 2008, then-candidate Obama said he intended to "spread the wealth around" -- not his own wealth through voluntary transactions, of course, but the earnings belonging to American families ...

GOP Insider: How Religion Destroyed My Party

Having observed politics up close and personal for most of my adult lifetime, I have come to the conclusion that the rise of politicized religious fundamentalism may have been the key ingredient in the transformation of the Republican Party. Politicized religion provides a substrate of beliefs that rationalizes—at least in the minds of its followers—all three of the GOP’s main tenets: wealth worship, war worship, and the permanent culture war. Religious cranks ceased to be a minor public nuisance in this country beginning in the 1970s and grew into a major element of the Republican rank and file. Pat Robertson’s strong showing in the 1988 Iowa presidential caucus ...

Is Violence the Answer?

Can violence be the answer to some of our problems. Our government says violence is the answer. They do. It took violence to form our nation in the Revolutionary war. Good old Abe Lincoln said violence is the answer to states want autonomy from the Federal government. Fast forward to our day. They said violence is the answer in Afghanistan. They said it is again in Iraq. Then we got a new president. He said violence in the answer in Libya. He says violence is the answer in Yemen. They say violence might be the answer in Syria and Iran. He has claimed that unleashing violence through unmanned drones is the answer. Liberal statists have said for years that violence is the answer for ...

The recent assault on the National Security Five is only the most recent example of the fear our elites have about discussing and understanding radical Islamists. When an orchestrated assault is launched on the right to ask questions in an effort to stop members of Congress from even inquiring about a topic -- you know the fix is in. The intensity of the attack on Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) as well as Republican Reps. Trent Franks of Arizona, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Tom Rooney of Florida and Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia is a reminder of how desperate our elites are to avoid this discussion. Yet consider this rush to silence questions in light of our history of unpleasant surprises ...

If You Liked the Iraq War, You'll Love Romney's Foreign Policy

Romney's trip abroad has demonstrated that his foreign policy operation is "bush league" in more ways than one. By now the entire world has gotten a chance to see that Mitt Romney is no foreign policy or diplomatic genius. He went to Britain and insulted his host's preparation for the Olympic Games -- leading major British papers to run banner headlines like: "Mitt the Twitt" and "Nowhere Man." He massively damaged whatever ability he might have had to broker Middle East peace were he elected president by theorizing that the economic difficulties of Palestinians stemmed from their inferior "culture." On his visit to Poland, Romney ...

For me, the first sentence of a New York Times article, the Monday after the Aurora, Colo., shooting, says it all: "Unhindered by federal background checks or government oversight, the 24-year-old man accused of killing a dozen people inside a Colorado movie theater was able to build what the police called a 6,000-round arsenal legally and easily over the Internet, exploiting what critics call a virtual absence of any laws regulating ammunition sales." Reflecting on the movie theater massacre in Aurora, it's hard to say what is more shocking: the fact that such a troubled young man was so easily able to buy an assault rifle, a shotgun, two handguns, and a 100-round drum; the fact that he ...
