Wilson in the Mirror Post Date: 2006-05-23 08:48:15 by continental op

Wilson in the Mirror by John M. Peters It was early in the new century, and an American President with fundamentalist Christian values declared war upon a foreign ideology. He took the nation to war to fulfill America?s mission to make the world safe for democracy, and to free oppressed peoples in developing nations. That was President Woodrow Wilson. Wilson?s personal belief system would plunge an unwilling nation into World War I with the loss of untold lives, domestic liberties and capital. President Bush lends credence to the adage that history repeats itself. The men, their ideologies and their policies are eerily similar. Both men left state governorships to ascend to the ...
Crying for a Horse Post Date: 2006-05-23 08:44:19 by continental op

Crying for a Horse by Mark G. Brennan For those of us who are not avid horse racing fans, this weekend effectively ended our interest in the sport until next year. Until this past Saturday there still existed the potential for a Triple Crown winner. Unfortunately the tragic injury befalling Barbaro at the Preakness Stakes erased that possibility. Now the nation waits with bated breath to find out if Barbaro will even survive his broken ankle. For horse racing fanatics like Judi Hunt of Aberdeen, Washington, who has listened to or seen each and every Triple Crown race since 1948, the reaction was as expected. The New York Times reported Ms. Hunt as saying, "I cried yesterday when the ...
The Da Vinci Code … the movie, the myth and what to do about it Post Date: 2006-05-22 09:48:56 by A K A Stone

I, along with millions of others around North America and the world, went to see Ron Howards movie The Da Vinci Code last night. The purpose of this article is not to point out the major errors in the book or the movie (see below for a list of excellent resources), but to discuss the film, its potential impact and to offer believers a biblical response to the book and movie. First, some background: * I dont see a lot of movies in the theaterI have a pretty busy schedule. * I would, however, have gone to this one, even if it was not an assignment for this article, and Ill outline my reasons below. * I am not a movie criticbut I like to think critically about ...
Saying No to Bush's Yes Men Post Date: 2006-05-17 08:10:49 by A K A Stone

Saying No to Bush's Yes Men By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN President Bush has slipped in one recent poll to a 29 percent approval rating. Frankly, I can't believe that. Those polls can't possibly be accurate. I mean, really, ask yourself: How could there still be 29 percent of the people who approve of this presidency? Personally, I think the president can reshuffle his cabinet all he wants, but his poll ratings are not going to substantially recover ever. Americans are slow to judgment about a president, very slow. And in times of war, in particular, they are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I think a lot of Americans in recent months have simply lost confidence in this ...
J.K. Galbraith Celebrated Power, Not Freedom Post Date: 2006-05-16 08:04:38 by continental op

Staples used to have an advertisement in which the clueless boss comes to Dilbert's cubicle with a visitor in tow. "Dilbert, meet our new executive vice president," says the boss, adding, "He's tall, so we know he'll go far." "I also have executive-style hair," says the new VP, and the boss interjects, "Which we think will turn silver." Indeed, if being tall and having silver hair is what is required for being "distinguished," then the late John Kenneth Galbraith certainly fit that description. I used to refer to him as the "Dilbert economist" in reference to the Staples advertisement. However, although Galbraith was revered by ...
Laura Bush doesn't believe bad polls Post Date: 2006-05-14 12:42:39 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush said on Sunday she does not believe opinion polls showing her husband's approval ratings at record low levels. Interviewed on Fox News Sunday, Laura Bush said she did not think people were losing confidence in President George W. Bush, despite a series of polls showing support for him at its lowest point in his five-year presidency and among the lowest for any president in the past 50 years. "I don't really believe those polls. I travel around the country. I see people, I see their responses to my husband. I see their response to me," she said. "As I travel around the United States, I see a lot of appreciation for him. A lot of ...
Bush has shown he can wage war, but can he promote peace? Post Date: 2006-05-12 21:13:37 by A K A Stone

n what can only be seen as a breakthrough in a moribund Middle East peace process, Hamas signaled this week that it is ready to accept a proposal for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. The proposal was drawn up and signed by top Fatah and Hamas leaders who are imprisoned in Israeli jails. Although it stops short of accepting Israel's right to exist, it implies a willingness to recognize the Jewish state by calling for the creation of a Palestinian state "in all the lands occupied in 1967," meaning the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Hamas' acceptance of this proposal proves that the Islamist group is willing to moderate its stance and is taking timid ...
No, Virginia, a missile did not hit the Pentagon Post Date: 2006-05-12 20:49:50 by A K A Stone

And no, Virginia, a controlled demolition did not bring down the World Trade Center, not even WTC VII. Nor, for that matter, did our aircraft shoot down United Flight 93 over Pennsylvania. I know that well-meaning people believe all of this, and I am reluctant to challenge their beliefs. But, alas, such beliefs have repercussion. The active bruiting about of such speculations has inspired a media version of Gresham's Law: bad conspiracies driving out the good. Two months before the 10th anniversary of the TWA Flight 800's demise, this bastardized new law threatens to trivialize the most consequential real conspiracy of our time. In writing "Ron Brown's Body" and "First ...

If I were in charge it would be illegal for convenience stores to not operate seperate lines for dopes playing the lottery or getting their past month's worth of lotto quick picks checked by the computer to see if they hit it big while everyone else waits to buy their newspaper and chicklets. If I were in charge it would illegal for Bums to say "God Bless you" sarcastically when you pass them by and don't give them change. If I were in charge people who cross the street against walk signs and walk as slow as possible while doing it (young black males take extra notice here) will be incacerated for no less than one week no questions asked and treated to Rush Limbaugh style ...
Is US Being Transformed Into A Radical Republic? Post Date: 2006-05-10 23:56:10 by Coral Snake

Is US Being Transformed Into A Radical Republic? By Lawrence Wilkerson The Baltimore Sun 5-10-6 We Americans came not from a revolution but from an evolution. That is in large part why our so-called revolution produced success while most throughout history did not. We came as much from the Magna Carta as from our own doings, as much from British common law and parliamentary development as from the Declaration of Independence and Continental Congress. Unlike the true revolution on the other side of the Atlantic that led to Napoleon's dictatorship and strife and conflict all across Europe, our evolution founded the greatest country the world has ever seen. That was true in every element ...
The Godfather USA Post Date: 2006-05-10 14:05:41 by A K A Stone

To be an American citizen is very much like being the child of a wealthy and unscrupulous criminal Godfather, who appears to be kind and generous to his own children at home, but is unflinchingly treacherous and murderous in conducting his family business, which is based on coercion, domination, exploitation, and violence. The average US citizen enjoys prosperity and relative freedom, but US prosperity derives in large part from the criminal exploitation of, and frequently the outright murder of, millions of innocent people in developing countries throughout the world. Most US citizens choose to remain in a perpetual state of denial regarding the criminal activities of their ...

JOHN W LILLPOP Rush to Judge 'Rush' Finally. After three long years and innumerable human sacrifices to appease the Op-ed gods at the far- left reaches of the universe, the leftist media got its pound of flesh. For about five-to-ten minutes last Friday afternoon, three simple words made irrelevant the election and re-election of George Bush, GOP control of the House and Senate, and confirmation of two conservative judges to the Supreme Court. The three magic words? 'Rush Limbaugh arrested!' Reaction at most 'news57' outlets on the Internet was wild jubilation, subdued only by an occasional outbreak of mass hysteria. Only Matt Drudge and precious few others actually had the story ...

A while ago, I and my friend Raisedeyebrows were banned for making jokes with ALS's name in it by Goldi-Lox. The same forum owner has implied that I am computer hopping to create a dummy account. What she has done by doing this is reveal confidential information about posters on Liberty Post. It is nobody's business where one posts from, or whom they are friends with. I got my friend interested in posting at LP and in recent months when his interest in posting returned, he prodded and pushed me to get back into the frey. Goldi-Lox is a hypocrite. She has been advised via E mail by me that she is dealing with two people. She has also been advised she has revealed confidential information. ...
On the evils of American 'Multiculti' Post Date: 2006-04-30 15:04:03 by A K A Stone

Not much logic to history. Big names in civilizations come and go, at the whim of unpredictable trends and processes. One of the ugly realities of modernity is that the world has become a junkyard of failed ideologies. To live in the present is like trying to relax on the comfortable porch of a home surrounded by unsightly putrid piles of garbage. (The upside of this situation is that the thinking person can identify the values which are worth cultivating, simply by noting what is missing in the failed ideologies). One ugly ideology of the present is what I call Americanism: the politics, culture, and morality of the United States since the mid-twentieth century.
I admit that ...

If You Are Democrat Or Republican, You Are A Fool Or A Wimp By Douglas Herman Exclusive to http://Rense.com 4-21-6 "Vote: the instrument and symbol of a freeman's power to make a fool of himself and a wreck of his country." -- Ambrose Bierce (Devil's Dictionary) I've known lots of fine folks who proudly called themselves registered Republicans or Democrats. Heck, many of my own siblings have voted Republican or Democrat. I respect and admire millions of otherwise sane folks who have voted for either party. I admire them, but never for their voting. If you call yourself a Democrat today you are either a fool or hopelessly naïve. If you call yourself a Republican you are ...
The disintegrating Republican Party Post Date: 2006-04-23 10:56:40 by Jhoffa_

The disintegrating Republican Party The ever-widening divide within the Republican Party is going more to destroy the GOP than anything the Democrats might try. The immigration reform debate has highlighted a long-standing fissure in the GOP between the elitist Rockefeller business wing and the party's conservative populist base. Whether the two groups can continue to coexist and preserve the Republican majority is increasingly doubtful as conservatives begin to consider -- and in some cases cheer -- the possibility that the GOP may lose control of Congress this fall. The two camps are deeply divided. The business elites are interested in a large supply of cheap labor and support ...

Iran, You Ran, Let's Bomb Iran When all else fails and you're becoming Nixon 2.0, why not just nuke someone, and smirk? It's just like playing blackjack in Vegas. Invariably, sitting right next to you is some guy, eyes shifty and body twitchy and making weird sounds with his mouth and smelling vaguely of sawdust and horse manure and dead dreams, with a huge pile of chips he is quickly turning into a very small pile of chips. He is suffering. He is playing terribly, grumbling, sneering at the dealer, talking to the cards like they were his personal slutty harem ("C'mon you dumb bitches, do me right," etc.), complaining to his very angry God who is apparently no longer coming ...

Bush authorized the leak of, and let's not beat around the bush and call it an 'intelligence report' like the yellow bellies at Reuters, the name of CIA agent Valerie Plame as a political stunt in retaliation for Joe Wilson's refusal to be the snake oil salesman for their rigged war, is the final nail in the coffin proving we have a dictatorship in Washington. Dictatorships are not always defined by funny hand salutes and gas chambers. The dictionary definition mentions neither, but it does mention ...

A Collapsing Presidency Will it take the country down with it? By Paul Craig Roberts 3-20-6 The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center finds that President Bush's support among the American people has fallen to 33 percent. Even more devastatingly, the survey finds that people's most frequently used one-word description of President Bush is "incompetent." The chief chaplain for the New York City Corrections Department told a Tucson audience that "the greatest terrorists in the world occupy the White House." Two years ago when New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was suppressing demonstrations at the Republican National Convention, the chief chaplain would have ...

Neoconus Nefarious - Understanding The Wild Neocon By Douglas Herman Exclusive To http://Rense.com 3-20-6 Since introduction into the wild, the once-domesticated Neocon (Latin: neocunus nefarious), has despoiled surrounding habitats and populations. While habitat destruction is not, in itself, the single greatest depredation of neocons-gone-wild, such widespread destruction replicates with each report that scientific researchers record. Neoconus Nefarious, the feral cross-breed of the larger, less aggressive species of Paleoconus Americanus, is far more dangerous and unpredictable. Field research has shown that Neoconus can attack without provocation. Also, Neoconus Nefarious often ...

We must have forgotten it. What it was. Not the America Bush talks about or Cheney plots to create, but the Old School idea that was referred to as the American Dream. Do you remember it? How did it go? Heres what I remember. The American Dream- the freedom/right to find someone you love to share your life with. Do a decent weeks work for a decent weeks pay. Raise a couple of children in a house you own. Get those kids a decent education in a safe environment that will allow them to pursue their dreams. Retire at a decent age and enjoy your golden years in peaceful pursuit of your hobbies and interests. That was it. So simple, so easy and so out of reach at this point its ...
Order Out Of Chaos In Iraq Post Date: 2006-03-10 18:14:05 by A K A Stone

It is now clearer than ever before that the blueprint for Iraq from the very start was to deliberately allow the country to descend into chaos and encourage Muslim to kill Muslim as the Neo-Con juggernaut of ethnic cleansing roars on to steamroll its next victim. We don't even need to cast our eye over recent incidents to know that staged managed events and psychological operations are taking place in Iraq. The Pentagon admitted that the April 9 2003 Saddam statue toppling was orchestrated not by joyous Iraqis but by a Marine colonel, with a psychological team using loudspeakers to urge onlooking Iraqis to assist. Close angle shots of the scene broadcast live worldwide gave the impression ...
Another War for Israel; The Amen Corner Howls For War With Iran Post Date: 2006-03-06 10:43:02 by Brian S

A prominent public official finally said what we've been saying all along in these pages: "The U.S. presence in Iraq is hurting the worldwide war on terrorism and benefits only Iran and al-Qaeda, U.S. Rep. John Murtha said on Sunday. 'The only people who want us in Iraq are Iran and al-Qaeda,' Murtha said on CBS's Face the Nation political talk show. 'And I talked to a top-level commander the other day and he said China wants us there also. Why? Because we're depleting our resources
our troop resources and our fiscal resources.'" Not to worry: Iran, it seems, is next on our hit list, and this is largely at the behest of the one beneficiary of the Iraq war Murtha fails to ...

Editor's note: Harry Browne, libertarian author and activist, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006. The following piece originally appeared on http://Antiwar.com Nov. 20, 2001. We reprint it in memory of this great friend of peace and liberty. I love America. I love every concept the Statue of Liberty stands for that individual liberty is held above the objectives of government; that, as Washington and Jefferson said, America imparts good will toward all and threatens no one; that this country is so big-hearted and prosperous it can welcome people from all over the world fleeing oppression or poverty. I love the Bill of Rights the most noble document ever written to define the ...
