The Tale of Two Sons

The Tale of Two Sons Luke 15:11-32 March 10, 2006 The text before us, like so many texts, a very familiar text and yet there are so many unfamiliar elements to it, and that's the genius of our Lord as a teacher. Anybody who knows this story knows the story that we call the story of the Prodigal Son. You might be interested to know that it has been considered by some people, no less that Charles Dickens, the greatest short story ever written. Also by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the greatest short story ever written. Now that makes you think about...what am I missing? Is there something there that I haven't seen? And there really is. To get us into the story a little bit, I just want to ...

"The sweet psalmist of Israel." — 2 Samuel 23:1

The sweet psalmist of Israel. —2 Samuel 23:1 Among all the saints whose lives are recorded in Holy Writ, David possesses an experience of the most striking, varied, and instructive character. In his history we meet with trials and temptations not to be discovered, as a whole, in other saints of ancient times, and hence he is all the more suggestive a type of our Lord. David knew the trials of all ranks and conditions of men. Kings have their troubles, and David wore a crown: the peasant has his cares, and David handled a shepherd's crook: the wanderer has many hardships, and David abode in the caves of Engedi: the captain has his difficulties, and David found the sons of Zeruiah ...

We All Will Be Surprised On Judgment Day

A lot of people are going to be surprised on judgment day. Because the things they do to believers they are really doing to Jesus himself personally. Everything from ISIS beheading Christians to North Koreans abusing believers in prison camps to that person at work who makes fun of you because of your faith. They’re not hurting mere humans, but everything they do they’re doing to Jesus himself, As Saul found out. “But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. Now ...

The Roman Governor Who Fulfilled Prophecy (NOT Pontius Pilate)
Post Date: 2015-08-05 11:11:11 by redleghunter

About twenty years or so before Pontius Pilate assumed control of Judea, a procurator by the name of Caponius was installed by Rome. The year was 6 AD. His governorship would set in motion the fulfillment of one of the most important predictions found in the Bible. To understand this, we need to go back to an event that took place 1850 years or so before the birth of Christ. As Jacob’s life was drawing to a close, he called together his twelve sons. He provides one of the most important prophecies of Scripture. As recorded in Genesis 49, the patriarch tells his sons what would befall them (or more specifically, what would happen to their descendants) as history progressed. Each son ...

Insanity Defense

At the end of a rather long day, I swung by Neil Cavuto's show on Fox News and was perhaps rather blunt about the current state of both the Republican and Democrat races. First, the Republican presidential campaign. Rand Paul calls the commanding lead of Donald Trump "temporary insanity" on the part of the voters: Steyn stated, "Rand Paul says this is temporary insanity on the part of whatever it is, 20-something percent of the Republican base. I think it was Einstein who said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting a different result. And the base supported the Republican Party establishment, delivered them a huge victory in 20 ...

Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative—More Anti-White Blaxploitation By The “Talented Tenth”

Roger Scruton once observed that the reason Cultural Marxism holds such enormous appeal for our ruling elites is not because it is philosophically true, but because it confers on them the power to manipulate others and reconfigure the social order. This—and nothing less than this—is the driving force behind President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative to “mentor” young black males. To the untrained eye, My Brother’s Keeper gatherings held at the White House and elsewhere seem harmless enough. President Obama stands up and gives a windy speech about policing and social justice, packaged in such a way that does not directly assail whites. Participants ...

What Is Sin? The Essence and Root of All Sinning

Why are we spending an entire pastors’ conference talking about sin? Let me give you just one glimpse into why I suggested to the team last summer that we focus on sin. I was reading Stephen Westerholm’s new book, Justification Reconsidered; and I was deeply moved by chapters two and three where he focuses on the relationship between Paul’s view of sin and the doctrine of justification. Westerholm is dealing with the New Perspective on Paul, a movement among New Testament Scholars in the last fifty years that goes something like this: For the last five hundred years or more, the church — Protestants in particular — has misunderstood what the Judaism of the first ...

We are cursed, as the Chinese say, to live in "interesting times", about which there is much to say - the Iran deal, for example, or the Allaku Akbar guy running amok in Chattanooga. Yet the dead sloth that is the Republican Party has finally roused itself to spend the last 48 hours hammering Donald Trump for impugning the honor of John McCain. As his criminal-immigrant surge demonstrates, Trump's support comes almost entirely from Americans who feel the political class passes its time talking about nothing that matters to them. So feel free to spend the weekend talking about John McCain. QED, as Trump is unlikely to say. On the matter of McCain, in June 1998 the Senator ...

A rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) drew about 300 supporters in deeply conservative Alabama – including one woman who has never voted in 22 years of eligibility. The event for the Vermont independent, who is running for president as a Democrat, happened Sunday at the Good People Brewing Company in Birmingham, reported AL.com. One of the those supporters was 40-year-old Elizabeth Hewitt, of Blount County, who said she has never felt like her vote mattered because she never heard a candidate’s message that resonated with her until Sanders. “I didn’t like either candidate,” she told the newspaper. “I didn’t care who won because I felt it didn’t ...

Many are called, but few chosen

Wednesday, July 15, 2015"For many are called, but few chosen."Matthew 22:14 What did Jesus mean? What was He telling us when He said, "For many are called, but few chosen."? If you, as a Christian man have learned anything from the misuse of "Judge not, that ye may not be judged," Matthew 7:1 and "Lord, behold, here are two swords." And He said unto them, "It is enough". You should have learned that one of the most important keys to understanding Scripture is Context, Context, Context. For looking at "For many are called, but few chosen." all alone is not going to give you context, it is instead going to either leave you ...

Many people don't believe in the Rapture of the Christian Church, or even know just what the Church is. There are many differing opinions on all phases of the End Times. The only valid opinions come from what we read in the Holy Bible. I will post an article tomorrow that doesn't skimp on references giving chapter and verse. I believe in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church. More on that tomorrow.

Do You Heap Burning Coals on Your Enemy’s Head?

Taken out of context from the Bible, the question seems rather odd. On face value, heaping burning coals on the head of anyone, friend or foe, see just downright un-Christian. But that is what we read in the Book of Romans 12:20b “… you will heap burning coals on his head.” Indeed, we are encouraged to do this very thing, something that no matter how we look at it, conjures up negative images. The question is, what does this phrase mean? Where does it come from? Before we begin to look at the phrase in detail, let us first look to God so that we set our understanding on the firm foundation of Who and What God is, for the phrase is found in the Holy Bible, which is the very ...

It Is Now Appropriate To Begin Serious Discussions as to Whether Pope Francis is, in fact, The Antichrist.

Always accept gifts that blaspheme our Blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Crucified for Our Sins and the Sins of the World, with a big, shit-eating grin. It’s just good manners. Communism has murdered well over one hundred million people in the last century alone, a massive percentage for being Christian. If one adds the abortions, it is probably closer to a billion souls. Our Blessed Lord and Savior shown crucified on a hammer and sickle is, by all metrics, worse than Our Lord shown crucified on a swastika. This is flat-out blasphemy. And Pope Francis stands there, nods and grins. He should have shaken his head “no”, and very demonstratively physically rejected it, ...

Jimmy Carter Says Jesus Would Approve Of Gay Marriage

But his religious beliefs don't keep him from supporting every American's right to marry the person they love.HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill asked Carter on Tuesday whether he believes Jesus would approve of gay marriage, and Carter said he does."I believe Jesus would. I don't have any verse in scripture. ... I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that's just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don't see ...

Baylor drops ban on 'homosexual acts'

The world's largest Baptist university has dropped a ban on "homosexual acts" in its sexual conduct policy. After years of appeals from students, alumni and others, Baylor University revised its sexual conduct policy, dropping the ban on gay sex to "state more plainly the expectations of the university," a Baylor spokeswoman said Tuesday. "These changes were made because we didn't believe the language reflected Baylor's caring community," spokeswoman Lori Fogleman said in an email. Baylor's old policy called "homosexual acts" a misuse of "God's gift," along with sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, incest ...

Romans chapter 4 is the chapter. Open your Bible, we're going to look at Romans 4 for a little bit tonight. There was a little girl who secretly and quietly had saved up enough money to buy her father a present for Father's Day. But when she had all her money collected, she was very concerned and so she went to her mother and said, “I can't be going down town every month to make payments. Mother, is there a store where they let you pay for the whole thing at once?” That's the kind of question a child would ask. And it is also true that there are religions in the world, in fact all false religions believe that you buy your salvation on some kind of an installment ...

I love actual history. Not the stuff the left makes up, but real, actual history.Anthony Johnson was an Angolan who achieved freedom in the early 17th century Colony of Virginia, where he became one of the first black property owners and slaveholders. Held as an indentured servant in 1621, he earned his freedom after several years, which was accompanied by a grant of land. He later became a successful tobacco farmer. Notably, he is recognized for attaining great wealth after having been an indentured servant and has been referred to as “'the black patriarch' of the first community of Negro property owners in America". Johnson was captured in his native Angola by an enemy ...

Ephraim is a cake not turned. —Hosea 7:8 A cake not turned is uncooked on one side; and so Ephraim was, in many respects, untouched by divine grace: though there was some partial obedience, there was very much rebellion left. My soul, I charge thee, see whether this be thy case. Art thou thorough in the things of God? Has grace gone through the very centre of thy being so as to be felt in its divine operations in all thy powers, thy actions, thy words, and thy thoughts? To be sanctified, spirit, soul, and body, should be thine aim and prayer; and although sanctification may not be perfect in thee anywhere in degree, yet it must be universal in its action; there must not be the ...

TALK SHOW HOST MICHAEL SAVAGE ANNOUNCES POPE FRANCIS IS THE FALSE PROPHET FROM REVELATION

POPE FRANCIS IS ON AN UNSTOPPABLE COLLISION COURSE WITH PROPHETIC DESTINY “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.” Revelation 16:13 (KJV) Radio talk show host Michael Savage must be a regular reader of NTEB, because we’ve been saying this from the moment Pope Francis was elected to rule the Vatican corporation. People used to laugh when we said that Francis was fulfilling the role of the False Prophet from the book of Revelation, but after 2 years of his rule, no one is laughing any more. “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he ...

"Help, Lord." — Psalm 12:1 The prayer itself is remarkable, for it is short, but seasonable, sententious, and suggestive. David mourned the fewness of faithful men, and therefore lifted up his heart in supplication-when the creature failed, he flew to the Creator. He evidently felt his own weakness, or he would not have cried for help; but at the same time he intended honestly to exert himself for the cause of truth, for the word "help" is inapplicable where we ourselves do nothing. There is much of directness, clearness of perception, and distinctness of utterance in this petition of two words; much more, indeed, than in the long rambling outpourings of ...

"The Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad." — Psalm 126:3 Some Christians are sadly prone to look on the dark side of everything, and to dwell more upon what they have gone through than upon what God has done for them. Ask for their impression of the Christian life, and they will describe their continual conflicts, their deep afflictions, their sad adversities, and the sinfulness of their hearts, yet with scarcely any allusion to the mercy and help which God has vouchsafed them. But a Christian whose soul is in a healthy state, will come forward joyously, and say, "I will speak, not about myself, but to the honour of my God. He hath brought ...

Biblical Name Eshbaal Found Outside of the Bible

The Biblical name Eshbaal has been found for the first time in an ancient inscription. Incised before firing on a 3,000-year-old pithos (large ceramic storage jar), the inscription was discovered at the site of Khirbet Qeiyafa in Israel. Researchers Yosef Garfinkel, Mitka R. Golub, Haggai Misgav and Saar Ganor have published their study of this inscription in a forthcoming issue of the journal Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research (BASOR). The Eshbaal inscription reads “[ ] | ¾šb¿l | ùbnú | bd¿” (“¾Išba¿al son of Beda¿”) and was written from right to left in the Canaanite alphabetic script. The name ¾šb¿l, commonly translated as ¾Išba¿al (or Esh-Ba¿al—“man of Ba¿al”), is ...
