‘Busiest day I’ve had in months’: Guns flying off shelves in Albuquerque after gov’s anti-2A move

It would appear that New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s emergency order banning the carrying of firearms in Alburquerque has had an unintended consequence: Sales in the city’s gun stores are booming. ABQ Guns owner Arnie Gallegos told The Epoch Times, “Today was the busiest day I’ve had in months.” Click for Full Text!

God or government? Self-restraint or tyranny?

Last week, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham created a firestorm with an executive order suspending for 30 days the right to concealed or open carry of a firearm in Bernalillo County (where Albuquerque, the state's most populated city, is located). In her order, Grisham declared gun violence to be a "public health emergency," using recent fatal shootings as examples and citing statistics showing that gun violence is the leading cause of death for New Mexicans under age 19. Possession of firearms has been lawful in the United States since the country was founded. And yet we did not have the problem with gun violence even just a few decades ago that we have now. Why ...

Did You Notice That None of the Albuquerque Protestors Burned Anything or Shot Anyone?

The country could take a lesson from the armed protesters who turned out in Albuquerque, New Mexico earlier this week in opposition to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s unconstitutional suspension of Second Amendment rights under the guise of a “public health emergency.” “Justifiably angry New Mexico gun owners who showed up at the protest didn’t hurt anyone, didn’t burn anything, did not clash with police and nobody was arrested or even cited,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “What a stark contrast to the violent ANTIFA demonstrations and urban rioting we have seen in recent years. The New Mexico Governor’s ‘Suspension’ of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Is Both Illegal and Stupid

This is not how the law works in America. As far as I can see, there’s nothing in any New Mexico statute that gives the governor the power to declare an emergency suspending the right to carry, and there’s certainly nothing in the U.S. Constitution that does. If our elected officials were allowed to shelve our unalienable rights every time they believed that those rights were being abused by outlaws, then they wouldn’t be unalienable rights; they’d be privileges. Lujan Grisham knows this — which is why she has said not only that she has “warned everyone that we expect a direct challenge,” but that the arrival of such a challenge is “the way it should ...

New Mexico Governor Faces Call for Impeachment After Banning Concealed Carry

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) is facing growing backlash, including a call for her impeachment, following her executive order banning concealed carry for self-defense in cities like Albuquerque. Breitbart News reported that the governor’s order took effect September 8, 2023, and lasts 30 days, after which Lujan Grisham made clear she will revisit the issue and may possibly extend the ban. For years, gun control organizations have been seeking to dismantle the bipartisan Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). That’s the crucial federal law that shields firearm manufacturers and sellers from frivolous lawsuits designed to bankrupt law-abiding businesses by blaming them for the criminal misuse of lawfully sold firearms or drive the industry to its knees and impose gun control through court ordered settlements. It is what former Clinton Secretary of Labor Robert Reich dubbed “regulation through litigation.” Click for Full Text!

New Mexico Gov. to Suspend Open and Concealed Gun Carry

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an emergency public health order that suspends the open and permitted concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque for 30 days in the midst of a spate of gun violence. The Democrat governor said she is expecting legal challenges but felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week. Cornyn’s Folly Redux: Biden Moves to Expand List of Individuals Who Will Need an FFL to Sell Their Guns

It should be more than obvious that the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that credulous GOP Senator John Cornyn shepherded into law along with Connecticut’s Chris Murphy was nothing but a stalking horse for expanding the federal government’s regulation of firearms. Since it was signed into law, the Biden Administration has interpreted the law’s language in the widest possible ways to institute a de facto 10-day waiting period on gun sales to adults under 21 years of age, strong-arm states into enacting red flag confiscation laws, and yank federal funds from schools with hunting safety and archery programs. University of Michigan Red Flag Confiscation Law Research Determines That More Research Is Needed

The study, published online in The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science in June, examined four types of laws that restrict access to firearms from individuals, including those considered to be at risk of harming themselves or others. These are often known as red flag laws, and place restrictions on people versus weapons. They are opposed by many Republicans and gun rights groups. Michigan passed such a law in May, following 20 other states, in response to the Feb. 13 mass shooting at Michigan State University. Properly implemented firearm injury prevention policies can play a role in preventing gun-related injuries and death, but more research is needed, according ...

The last couple of days I’ve reported on a dystopian motion that was filed seeking to silence journalists from reporting on a high-profile case. Assistant United States Attorney Laura Cofer Taylor applied to the judge presiding over United States of America v. Ervin and Hoover in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, to have journalists John Crump and Richard Hughes censored, any fruits of their labors destroyed, and be subject to any other penalties the court would see fit. Crump and Hughes filed an emergency challenge to Taylor’s request and a group of 17 of the biggest online video journalists joined the pair by supporting them via an amicus brief. As ...

The correct expression when discussing a defensive gun use is “shoot to stop the threat.” That’s what you’re trying to do when when your life or that of a loved one is threatened. You are not trying to commit a homicide, however justifiable that may be in a given situation. Even if you’re aiming at the bad guy’s head or shooting at him or her point-blank. You are shooting to stop the threat. Click for Full Text!

The Illinois Supreme Court on Friday overruled a lower court's ruling and upheld the state's law banning assault weapons in a 4-3 decision. Illinois lawmakers passed the ban in January, months after the mass shooting at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, just outside of Chicago. The shooter legally purchased a semiautomatic weapon and shot parade goers from a rooftop, killing seven and injuring 36. Click for Full Text!

Gun Violence in Red and Blue

With the 2024 field of presidential candidates beginning to take shape, Americans can expect political debates to hit a new level of intensity— especially over crime. The issue emerged as a weak spot for Democrats in the 2022 midterms, raising the question of how the party planned to handle it moving forward. Yet despite some scattered pushback, Democrats have not compellingly repudiated the police and criminal-justice reforms that likely contributed to the Republican edge on the crime question. Expect Democrats to pivot to a bread-and-butter theme: gun control, which allows them to shift the blame for crime to conservative gun control opponents. This approach may have political ...

House Democrats keep pushing for gun control vote

House Democrats want gun control. Senate Democrats want gun control. The White House obviously wants it too. Part of the problem for them is that there’s no chance of it getting to President Joe Biden’s desk for a signature. Sure, they passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act last year, but we all know how little that particular measure was ever going to accomplish, even if everything worked as intended with no unintended consequences.
