Austria to close 7 mosques, expel imams in crackdown
Post Date: 2018-06-08 06:57:14 by IbJensen
BERLIN Austria's government said Friday that it is closing seven mosques and plans to expel imams in a crackdown on "political Islam" and foreign financing of religious groups. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said the government is shutting a hardline Turkish nationalist mosque in Vienna and dissolving a group called the Arab Religious Community that runs six mosques. The actions by the government are based on a 2015 law that, among other things, prevents religious communities from getting funding from abroad. Interior Minister Herbert Kickl said the residence permits of around 40 imams employed by ATIB, a group that oversees Turkish mosques in Austria, are being reviewed ...

Trump: Trade War With Canada Justified Because Brits Burned the White House in 1814
Post Date: 2018-06-07 05:03:32 by Deckard
I mean, sure, that makes as much sense as any other reason.During a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last weekend, President Donald Trump reportedly justified his decision to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum by invoking...the burning of the White House by British troops during the War of 1812. At least, that's what CNN is reporting this afternoon. Here's how they put it, citing information from "sources familiar with the call: "Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a 'national security' issue. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, 'Didn't you guys burn down the White House?'" That is, ...
The Trump Effect: Boeing Will Terminate Selling Aircraft To Iran
Post Date: 2018-06-06 19:31:43 by Tooconservative
On Wednesday, as a result of President Trumps decision last month to pull the United States out of the disastrous nuclear deal, Boeing announced it will not deliver aircraft to Iran. A Boeing spokesman stated, "We have not delivered any aircraft to Iran, and given we no longer have a license to sell to Iran at this time, we will not be delivering any aircraft. We did not factor the Iran orders into our order backlog either." Boeing had already delayed the delivery dates on the Iran planes; during the Obama Administration, Boeing obtained U.S. Treasury licenses to begin conducting business. In December 2016, Boeing announced it would sell 80 aircraft valued at $16.6 ...

Clapper: The U.S. Meddled In Foreign Elections And Conducted Regime Change In The "Best Interests Of The People"
Post Date: 2018-06-04 12:30:38 by Deckard
Former head of US Intelligence James Clapper just admitted that the United States was simply looking out for citizens of various countries "when we tried to manipulate or influence elections or even overturned governments," a statement directly at odds with the moral high ground claimed by President Obama and other US officials on the topic of Russian election meddling. In an interview with Bloomberg's Tobin Harshaw published Saturday, Clapper - who is promoting his new book "Facts and Fears," said "I guess the way I think about that is that through our history, when we tried to manipulate or influence elections or even overturned governments, it was ...

Post Date: 2018-06-02 11:40:13 by Deckard
And if other countries respond with similar tariffs, the U.S. could lose more than 600,000 manufacturing jobs.A new study says the American automobile industry will lose 195,000 jobs over the next three years if President Donald Trump presses forward with a plan to impose 25 percent tariffs on imported cars and auto parts. That's on top of the existing tariffs on steel and aluminum, which are already forecast to whack automakers and other manufacturing jobs. According to the study, which was released by the D.C.-based Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE), a 25 percent tariff on automobiles and auto parts would cause production in those industries to fall by about 1.5 ...
Trump Goes Full Neocon as Bolton Adds Fred Fleitz as NSC Chief of Staff
Post Date: 2018-06-01 09:28:46 by Deckard
During the Trump campaign, I wrote a book on the influence of Frank Gaffney, the fringe neocon who has made a career pulling fire alarms, telling us Islam will destroy western civilization and enslave us to Sharia law. Earlier this week Trumps national security adviser John Bolton installed Fred Fleitz as the National Security Councils executive secretary and chief of staff. Fleitz worked for Bolton at the State Department during the Bush administration. He is a senior staff member at the Center for Security Policy (CPS), a hardline neocon think tank founded by Gaffney. Its raison detre is taking out the mullahs in Iran, who are invariably described as ...

It also plans to pursue litigation at the World Trade Organization relating to Chinese intellectual property abuses. The big picture: Its a show of force that has surprised some sources close to the White House who believed Trump would defer any aggression towards China until after the North Korea summit.A source close to the White House who has a keen understanding of the internal dynamics on China told me that this is an "initial ...
Poland would like a permanent U.S. military base [Full Thread]
Post Date: 2018-05-28 19:02:28 by Tooconservative
Word has leaked out that Poland has delivered a proposal requesting a permanent American military base in their country and theyre willing to put up a couple of billion dollars to help make it happen. What should have been a fairly normal diplomatic request, however, has turned into a complicated mess before it could even be officially announced. Questions were immediately raised as to not only how or if this should happen, but even who came up with the proposal in the first place. (Politico) Poland wants a permanent U.S. military presence and is willing to pony up as much as $2 billion to get it, according to a defense ministry proposal obtained by Polish news portal Onet. ...
Russia Just Blinked in Syria and It Isn’t an Accident
Post Date: 2018-05-28 14:53:02 by Tooconservative
When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse.Osama bin Laden, terrorist mastermind and, as it turned out, prophet. One of the many signature accomplishments of the Obama administration was inviting Russia to take a role in the war in Syria. If one were writing a John le Carre-style novel one could draw a straight line from our withdrawal from Iraq to the rise of ISIS to the Arab Spring to our attempt to overthrow Assad to the rise of ISIS to the increase of Iranian power to using the Russians as our intermediary with Iran to negotiate the now-defunct Iran nuclear deal to a Russian military presence in Syria. But as Irans ...
Your Tax Dollars Bankroll Afghan Child-Molesters
Post Date: 2018-05-28 12:53:41 by Deckard
Donald Trump was hailed by the media last August when he announced he was sending more U.S. troops to fight in Afghanistan. A Washington Post editorial praised his principled realism and saluted a rare but welcome story of self-correction (since Trump had portrayed Afghanistan as a lost cause when he was a presidential candidate). A New York Daily News op-ed praised the president because Trump said win and victory more times in 15 minutes than President Barack Obama did in eight years. CNN cheered that expanding the Afghan war allowed Trump to stake out a more conventional presidential posture. Trump assured the ...

And as a result of the chaos, millions would likely die, according to the report ...

Germany Playing Kissy-Face With IranÂ’s Mullahs Is Going To Cost German Companies Plenty
Post Date: 2018-05-26 01:30:35 by Tooconservative
Ive posted a few times on the efforts on the part of some European countries, Germany, in particular, to continue to trade with Iran despite US sanctions (see here | here). This, of course, is nonsense. German, and European, companies that are hit with sanctions are cut off from US markets and, more importantly, their bankers are subject to sanctions, too. Two important things happened today that, hopefully, will hammer home to Europe that their plan to resist US sanctions on Iran wont work. First, we have Ambassador Richard Grennell. Grennell, youll recall, is the guy who gave the Washington Post a brief bout of fecal incontinence when he tweeted, shortly after ...

The Great German Meltdown by Victor Davis Hanson
Post Date: 2018-05-24 14:00:47 by tpaine
The Great German Meltdown by Victor Davis Hanson Wednesday, May 23, 2018 Every 20 to 50 years in Germany, things start unraveling. Germans feel aggrieved. Ideas and movements gyrate wildly between far left and far right extremes. And the Germans finally find consensus in a sense of victimhood paradoxically expressed as national chauvinism. Germanys neighbors in 1870, 1914, 1939and increasingly in the presentusually bear the brunt of this national meltdown. Germany is supposed to be the economic powerhouse of Europe, its financial leader, and its trusted and responsible political center. Often it plays those roles superbly. But recently, its been cracking ...
Trump lawyer 'paid by Ukraine' to arrange White House talks
Post Date: 2018-05-23 16:13:51 by Jameson
Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 (£300,000) to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump, according to sources in Kiev close to those involved. The payment was arranged by intermediaries acting for Ukraine's leader, Petro Poroshenko, the sources said, though Mr Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by US law. The meeting at the White House was last June. Shortly after the Ukrainian president returned home, his country's anti-corruption agency stopped its investigation into Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. A high-ranking Ukrainian ...
Pompeo to Iran: Get ready for "strongest sanctions in history"
Post Date: 2018-05-22 04:29:46 by Tooconservative
Mike Pompeo offered both a clenched fist and an open hand to Iran in his first major policy speech. At the Heritage Foundation this morning, the new Secretary of State pledged never to repeat the mistakes of past administrations and rejected entirely the effort to renegotiate the JCPOA, the executive agreement created by the Obama administration. Instead, Pompeo offered to open full diplomatic and economic ties with Tehran, but only if they comply with twelve basic requirements for non-proliferation and the end of state-sponsored terrorism: If Iran agrees to US "requirements," Pompeo says US prepared to end all principal components of its ...
Germany’s military is dysfunctional and they have no plans to fix it
Post Date: 2018-05-22 03:08:28 by Tooconservative
This weekend I was writing about the dismay being expressed by various European leaders these days as they come to realize that the status quo is changing and they cant simply take advantage of the United States anymore. One area where thats abundantly clear is found in the subject of military spending. Western Europe, in particular, has had a pretty smooth ride since the Second World War, being able to save a lot of money by not funding large military forces and relying on America to keep them secure. Nowhere is this more evident than in Germany. While we touched on this briefly yesterday, there are some recent developments in the news coming out of Europe which merit a closer ...
ISIS Militants Leave Damascus Under Evacuation Deal As Assad Takes Full Control Of Capital
Post Date: 2018-05-21 13:19:36 by Tooconservative
Islamic State fighters began evacuating their last remaining positions in southern Damascus on Sunday under an agreement with the Syrian government, which was reached after months of furious fighting, according to a war monitor and local reports. The brief ceasefire allows IS militants safe passage out of Damascus to camps in Syrias eastern desert, where the group still clings on to some territory. Their departure marks the fall of all rebel and militant Islamic groups in Damascus and gives Syrian President Bashar al-Assads government full control of the capital region for the first time since the countrys civil war broke out in 2011. At dawn, six buses of IS ...
