#38. To: JoeSnuffy (#17) Everyone should be patriotic to the nation they live in, and are a citizen of. However, ISRAEL is the HOLY LAND of Jews AND Christians, and it MUST be preserved for the Jews to live/rule there so that all other faiths can visit there in peace. When the Muslims held OUR Holy Land in the past, they prevented Jews AND Christians from visiting our most sacred places ther THAT cannot stand, and can never ever be allowed to happen again...and THAT alone is why the US must always support Israel. Egypt: Gaza Blockade A Failure, Border Stays Open Post Date: 2010-06-07 12:15:59 by Brian S

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) -- An Egyptian security official declared the blockade of Gaza a failure Monday and said his country will keep its border with the Palestinian territory open indefinitely. Keeping that crossing point open long term would ease the blockade imposed by Israel three years ago to isolate and punish Gaza's Hamas rulers. It also restores a link to the outside the world for some of Gaza's 1.5 million Palestinians. Egypt opened its border with Gaza soon after Israel's deadly raid on an international flotilla of activists trying to break the blockade a week ago. Israel has not publicly protested the Egyptian move, but officials declined to comment Monday. In ...

TEHRAN The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to Gaza this week in the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory by Iran's regional archfoe Israel. Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the state IRNA news agency late on Sunday that the decision to send the ships was taken after a meeting with the foreign ministry. "One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week," Adibzadeh said. He said the Red Crescent has called for Iranian volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels. ...

Joint Chiefs Chair Says Al Qaeda in Iraq Has Been 'Devastated' Published June 07, 2010 ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. A string of setbacks for Al Qaeda's affiliate in Iraq has left the insurgent group "devastated" and struggling to cope with a double whammy of a leadership vacuum and a money squeeze, the top U.S. military officer said Sunday. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he found it particularly encouraging that gains against Al Qaeda have been made in operations carried out jointly by U.S. and Iraqi military forces. That makes it more likely, Mullen said, that after U.S. troops leave in 2011 the Iraqi government will be able to ...

Five terrorists were killed and no commandos were hurt. According to IDF brass, this incident indicated that the terrorist unit was trying to carry out a large scale attack. Israel’s ‘Audience of One’ is Much Less of a Captive Post Date: 2010-06-07 00:25:55 by Brian S

Israel may accept its isolation from the world community but the US has found its allys position in maintaining a blockade of Gaza untenable and has agreed that an impartial inquiry into the deadly raid is needed, says James Zogby. As expected, Israel matched its use of overwhelming force against the passengers on the Mavi Marmara with an equally vigorous attempt to shape both how the story played out in the US media and the official response from the US government. To that end, the Israeli government prepared talking points, enlisted the efforts of their lobby, and mobilised a virtual army of activists to monitor, respond to and pressure the press as ...

Israel's Reputation In Tatters As EU, World Powers Review Relations Post Date: 2010-06-06 20:33:56 by Brian S

Israel's relations with the European Union were already fragile before Israeli commandoes killed at least nine people in a pre-dawn raid on an aid ship bound for the Gaza Strip on Monday. The relationship between the EU and Israel, which was severely damaged by Israel's execution of the 2008 Gaza war, had been recovering slowly despite on-going concerns over Israel's plans to build some 1600 settlements on occupied Palestinian land. Now the naval operation against the Gaza aid flotilla, which has drawn international condemnation, may have irrevocably damaged ties between the two sides. The EU was joined by Russia in calling for an impartial probe into the Israeli operation ...

The Israeli Defense Force has issued a "clarification" admitting it manipulated audio of its raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla
On Friday, the IDF released audio of what it said was an exchange between Israel Navy officers and the crew of the Mavi Marmara, the main vessel in the flotilla. In it, voices could be heard telling the Israeli soldiers to "go back to Auschwitz" and "we're helping Arabs go against the US -- don't forget 9/11, guys."
But flotilla passengers quickly began disputing the veracity of the audio clip
Investigative journalist Max Blumenthal reports that the head of the Free Gaza movement, Huwaida Arraf, could be heard on the videotape asserting the flotilla's right ...

International fallout from Israel's bloody boarding of a flotilla offshore Gaza intensified, moving beyond angry denunciation from Israel's foes to protest measures in some Western countries. In Sweden, dockworkers are set to launch a weeklong boycott of Israeli ships and goods, a union spokesman said Saturday according to Associated Press. Peter Annerback, a spokesman for the Swedish Port Workers Union which has around 1,500 members, said workers are urged to refuse handling of Israeli goods and ships during the June 15-24 boycott. Norway's military says it has canceled a special operations seminar because the Defense Ministry objected to the inclusion of an Israeli army ...

Firearms may have been thrown overboard by passengers of the Mavi Marmara, Israel Radio reported Friday, citing IDF sources. According to the report, gun-sights and rifle cartridges not fitting IDF weapons were discovered upon inspection of the ship, leading defense officials to believe that there may have been weapons on board when the ship set out from Turkey aside from the knifes, rocks and slingshots found in the search. Coded messages apparently alluding to scenarios of soldier-kidnapping and soldier fatalities were also found on board ...

The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) branch of U.N.'s Department of Economic and Social Affairs invites in NGOs from around the globe, including the Turkish-based Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH). Thomas Friedman and Jeffrey Goldberg are both suggesting that the flotilla was not a humanitarian mission, but a political setup. How would you respond? I would have to ask you, How the hell would they know? Sitting behind their desks, wherever it was. And the second question I would ask is, Are they known as critics of Israel? And the anwer to that question is no, they are not. I don't fault them for this. But they are known as card-carrying supporters of Israel. OK, you're allowed to do that. But don't expect me to take what you have to say as necessarily the unquestionable truth. Both of these are intelligent journalists and honorable men and all that, but their views are ...

Lift the Siege of GazaPat BuchananFriday, June 04, 2010In June 1948, our wartime ally imposed a blockade on Berlin, cutting off and condemning to death or Stalinist domination 2 million Germans, most of whom, not long before, had cheered Adolf Hitler. Harry Truman responded with the Berlin airlift, in perhaps the most magnanimous act of the Cold War. For nine months, U.S. pilots flew into Tempelhof, carrying everything from candy to coal, saving a city and earning the eternal gratitude of the people of Berlin, and admiration everywhere that moral courage is admired. That was an America that lived its values. And today, President Obama should end his and his country's shameful silence ...
