War Monger-In-Chief Obama kinetically escalates in Libya, sends in the kinetic drones

Obama has OK'd use of drones in Libya, Gates saysU.S. President Barack Obama has approved the use of armed Predator drones in Libya, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday. Gates told CNN the unmanned Predators would allow for "some precision capability" against the forces of longtime Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, and will offer a "modest contribution" to NATO efforts to support Libyan rebels. NATO, meanwhile, has signaled it may ramp up air strikes on Gadhafi's regime. NATO issued a new warning to Libyan civilians to stay away from military areas - foreshadowing plans for attacks on targets seen as strategically significant in stopping the ...

Apple Sucks Out The Ass. IPhone Spies On You

Security researchers have discovered that Apple's iPhone keeps track of where you go – and saves every detail of it to a secret file on the device which is then copied to the owner's computer when the two are synchronised. The file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone's recorded coordinates along with a timestamp, meaning that anyone who stole the phone or the computer could discover details about the owner's movements using a simple program. For some phones, there could be almost a year's worth of data stored, as the recording of data seems to have started with Apple's iOS 4 update to the phone's operating system, released in June 2010. "Apple has made it possible for ...

Only 26 per cent of Iowa Republicans believe Obama was born in U.S.

Only a quarter of Republicans in critical caucus-state Iowa believe that President Obama was born in the U.S. A massive 48 per cent of GOP voters in the Hawkeye State, who said that they will vote in the first caucus of the presidential election race, said they doubted the President’s place of birth. Some 26 per cent said they believed the President, 26 per cent said they were not sure. The poll gives a boost to Donald Trump’s ‘birther crusade’, which has seen the reality star and entrepreneur push widely discredited questions about Obama’s nationality back into the national spotlight. In the Public Policy Polling survey of 419 usual Iowa Republican caucus ...

Housing Starts in U.S. Increased to 549,000 in March, Exceeding Forecasts

A gain in March housing starts failed to make up for ground lost the prior month, as U.S. home builders continue to struggle almost two years into the economic recovery. Work began on 549,000 houses at an annual pace, up 7.2 percent from the prior month and exceeding the 520,000 median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, figures from the Commerce Department showed today in Washington. Starts fell 19 percent in February to the lowest level in almost two years. Housing, which pushed the economy into the recession, remains the weak link in the recovery and continues to weigh on consumer spending as home prices fall. The prospect of more foreclosures and joblessness forecast to ...

Nature to Get Legal Rights in Bolivia

After decades of exile to environmentalism’s legal fringes, the notion that natural systems could have legal rights is receiving serious attention. Bolivia’s Law of Mother Earth is set to pass. On Wednesday the United Nations will discuss a proposed treaty based on the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth (.pdf), which was drafted by environmentalists last year. Both mandate legal recognition of ecosystems’ right to exist. It’s highly unlikely that the United Nations would pass any such treaty in the foreseeable future, and the discussion has been criticized as a time-wasting political maneuver. But the intellectual argument for nature’s rights ...

The Terminators: drone strikes prompt MoD to ponder ethics of killer robots

The growing use of unmanned aircraft in combat situations raises huge moral and legal issues, and threatens to make war more likely as armed robots take over from human beings, according to an internal study by the Ministry of Defence. The report warns of the dangers of an "incremental and involuntary journey towards a Terminator-like reality", referring to James Cameron's 1984 movie, in which humans are hunted by robotic killing machines. It says the pace of technological development is accelerating at such a rate that Britain must quickly establish a policy on what will constitute "acceptable machine behaviour". "It is essential that before unmanned systems ...

U.S. Taxpayers on the Hook for Portugal Bailout

U.S. Taxpayers on the Hook for Portugal Bailout by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) Recently, Portugal officially requested a $116 billion bailout from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. This makes Portugal the third European nation to seek such a bailout in the past year (Greece got $157 billion; Ireland $122 billion). What most people don’t realize is that the U.S. is the largest contributor to the IMF. Therefore, U.S. taxpayers are paying for Portugal’s bailout which – like the earlier bailouts of Greece and Ireland – was caused by too much government spending and borrowing. Last year, here at BigGovernment.com I warned how the Obama ...

U.S. and Allies Seek a Refuge for Qaddafi WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has begun seeking a country, most likely in Africa, that might be willing to provide shelter to Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi if he were forced out of Libya, even as a new wave of intelligence reports suggest that no rebel leader has emerged as a credible successor to the Libyan dictator. The intense search for a country to accept Colonel Qaddafi has been conducted quietly by the United States and its allies, even though the Libyan leader has shown defiance in recent days, declaring that he has no intention of yielding to demands that he leave his country, and intensifying his bombardment of the rebel city of ...

Over the past few weeks, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has publicly rebuked his Prime Minister Vladimir Putin over Libya, distanced himself from Mr. Putin's model of state capitalism and now, on Chinese television of all places, dared to suggest that his mentor is stuck in the past, and that he himself is the better man to steer Russia for the next six years. Meanwhile, over at the White House, deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, the architect of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's downfall and a man widely perceived both inside and outside Russia as Mr. Putin's strong right arm, is facing at least a tactical defeat, if not a strategic one, at the hands of a trio of oligarchs over a ...

The Department of Water Affairs, a global economic meltdown, illegal mining and heavy rains were responsible for Aurora's financial woes, Zondwa Mandela told parliament's portfolio committee on mineral resources yesterday. Mandela, grandson of former president Nelson Mandela and director of Aurora Empowerment Systems, was called to parliament to account for problems at the company's two gold mines. Mandela, who heads the company with President Jacob Zuma's nephew, Khulubuse, said they had been trying since 2009 to raise money to acquire the provisionally liquidated mines of Pamodzi Gold - Grootvlei in Springs on the East Rand and Orkney in North West - through Aurora. ...

US Drone Strike Kills Two US Soldiers in Afghanistan

The ridiculous inaccuracy of the US drone strikes in Afghanistan and Pakistan has taken another turn for the worse. Reports are now emerging that a US drone strike in Helmand Province actually killed two US soldiers. The official explanation is that they were mistaken for Taliban, US air strikes mistaking Afghan police or soldiers for Taliban are fairly common, and sometimes US aircraft will see a bunch of children gathering firewood and think “Taliban.” Having US drones firing US missiles at US soldiers leaves one wondering how little confirmation is actually needed before missiles are fired. The Pentagon has yet to confirm the story, but says the killings are under ...

France and the UK are calling on NATO to step up its bombing efforts in Libya, despite reports of civilian deaths from an allied airstrike. NATO warplanes in Libya reportedly killed several civilians - including women and children - in a bombing south-west of the capital Tripoli. NATO planes bombed the outskirts of the city of Kikla, 100 kilometres from Tripoli. Libyan state television says the bomb struck an area where police were controlling traffic, and says police and civilians - men, women and children - were killed, although the report was not immediately verified independently. "The entrance to Kikla was targeted by a raid by colonialist aggressors who entered an area where ...

As the world dwindles into chaos between the the tug-of-war of two diametrically opposed views of the world around us, I have studied issues affecting all of us. The issues aren't a function of a political tug-of-war; nope, it is ethics, morals and personal strength. The world around us is going to POT. Face it folks, the liars have repeatedly lied to us in Washington DC no matter whom you voted for or for that matter didn't vote for. Who to change this direction? Who is asking their Congressman? IMF says risks not expected to derail economic recovery

The global economy remains firmly on a path to recovery but threats to growth remain, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said. Among the challenges are rising oil prices, unrest in the Middle East, continued inflation in China and debt problems in Europe. In a new forecast, the IMF says the global economy should grow by 4.4% in 2011, the same figure given in January. But the IMF cut its UK growth forecast for 2011 to 1.7% from 2%. It kept its prediction for UK economic growth in 2012 unchanged at 2.3%. Meanwhile, it raised its forecast for Germany's GDP growth this year to 2.5% from 2.2%, and its forecast for 2012 rose slightly to 2.1%. Oil supply risk On the global economy ...

Kinetic NATObama Bombing Report: Heavy kinetic fighting along eastern Libyan front

Heavy fighting along eastern Libyan front AJDABIYA, Libya (AP) - Heavy fighting raged for a second day around a key front-line city Sunday as rebels struggled to keep control of a buffer zone protecting their main eastern strongholds. Shelling and gunfire was heard across Ajdabiya after forces loyal to Libyan leader launched their most sustained offensive since being driven back by international airstrikes last month. A hospital chief said at least 13 people have been killed since fighting erupted Saturday and a Libyan official claimed government forces downed two U.S.-built helicopters used by rebels. Rebels are desperate to hang onto the city to give breathing room to their main ...

Shelling in East Libya Forces Rebel Kinetic Retreat

Pro-government forces in Libya have shelled rebel fighters near Ajdabiya, challenging the rebels' hold on the city. The attacks Saturday forced rebels to retreat, slowing their westward advance toward the oil town of Brega on the Mediterranean Sea. Brega has gone from regime to rebel control and back again several times since the start of an uprising against the government of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. Meanwhile, the Red Cross says a ship carrying medical supplies has docked in Misrata, a town that has been besieged by pro-Gadhafi forces for weeks. It is the only city in western Libya where rebels have been able to maintain control. Some information for this report was provided ...

Egyptians turn anger on army in Cairo protest

CAIRO (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters turned their anger on the army on Saturday demanding that Egypt's ruling military council hand power to civilians and pressing for former President Hosni Mubarak to be put on trial. The army, which has ruled Egypt since Mubarak was forced out of office on February 11, has become a growing target for a hardcore of protesters who say the generals are colluding with remnants of Mubarak's network and thwarting calls for a deeper purge. "The military council is part and parcel of the corrupt regime. It is made up of heads of the army that have benefited from Mubarak and his 30 years of robbing the Egyptian people," said Abdullah ...

President Obama came into office pledging a new approach to the Middle East. We were told that his middle name -- Hussein -- would give him unprecedented entrée to the corridors of power in that troubled region -- and to the Arab street. Iran We thought a Mideast policy could not be more confused, more feckless than Jimmy Carter's. Carter acceded to, if he did not welcome, the ouster of the Shah in 1979. The Shah was horrible in Carter's eyes. Well, the Ayatollah Khomeini and his mullahs who replaced the Shah were horribler. And still are. Mr. Obama pledged an "open hand" to the mullahs in Tehran. It was spat on. When thousands of young Iranians massed in the ...
