Bin Laden Is Dead – Let’s Come Home! Post Date: 2011-05-11 00:24:55 by jwpegler

Last week marked an important milestone in the war on terrorism for our country. Osama bin Laden applauded the 9/11 attacks. Such deliberate killing of innocent lives deserved retaliation. It is good that bin Laden is dead and justice is served. The way in which he was finally captured and killed shows that targeted retribution is far superior to wars of aggression and nation-building. In 2001 I supported giving the president the authority to pursue those responsible for the vicious 9/11 attacks. However, misusing that authority to pursue nation-building and remaking the Middle East was cynical and dangerous, as the past ten years have proven. It is tragic that it took ten years, trillions ...
Pakistan to let Chinese plunder secret U.S. stealth helicopter downed in Bin Laden raid Post Date: 2011-05-10 21:22:27 by socalv8

The Chinese military could soon get its hands on the wreckage of a secret U.S. 'stealth' helicopter that crash landed in the raid on Osama Bin Laden's compound, Pakistani officials have said. The previously unseen helicopter crashed in the daring dawn raid in Abbottabad earlier this month, with Navy SEALs managing to destroy all but a tail section of the secret aircraft. The U.S. has since demanded the Pakistanis return the destroyed helicopter. But according to ABC news, Pakistani officials have said the Chinese were also 'very interested' in seeing the tail section, with one unnamed official adding: 'We might let [the Chinese] take a look.' Pictures of the ...
Obama Works Osama Into Stump Speech Post Date: 2011-05-10 21:13:54 by socalv8

President Barack Obama added a new applause line in his money trail stump speech: the death of Osama bin Laden. At previous fundraisers, Mr. Obama barely mentioned foreign policy, if at all. But this time, in between putting two women on the Supreme Court and calling for immigration reform, he offered a huge shout out to last weeks operation. And because of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women who wear this nations uniform and the outstanding work of our intelligence agencies, Osama Bin Laden will never again threaten the United States of America. We couldnt be prouder of them, he told some 750 people at a fund-raiser in Austin, Texas, Tuesday. The ...
CATO: How Bush Lost bin Laden Post Date: 2011-05-10 15:41:33 by go65

By spring 2002, less than a year after the initial U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, President George W. Bush decided to pull most of Americas Special Operations Forces and CIA paramilitary operatives off the hunt for Osama bin Laden so they could be redeployed for a possible war in Iraq. Ive written about this before, but I did not know the extent to which the war in Iraq contributed to our loss of bin Laden until I read this piece from the Washington Post: --------- The American campaign [in Afghanistan] was conducted primarily from the air. Despite the pleas from CIA operatives, U.S. officials were reluctant to send in ground troops to flush out bin Laden. They told officers on ...
Where’s Hillary? Hasidic paper breaks the rules by editing Clinton out of White House photo Post Date: 2011-05-10 00:19:57 by A K A Stone

Hillary Clinton's expression, right hand clasped over her mouth in astonishment, is largely responsible for making the above photo iconic--and, to at least one newspaper, sexually suggestive. In the photo, President Obama and his national security team are huddled around a conference table in the White House Situation Room, watching CIA director Leon Panetta narrate last Sunday's raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. The mood is clearly tense. When Women's Wear Daily consulted a coterie of photo editors and designers about why the image is "destined to be one for the history books," Clinton was foremost in their responses. "The Hillary Clinton expression is ...
Japan detects radiation up to 700 milliserverts at Fukushima nuke plant Post Date: 2011-05-10 00:03:55 by A K A Stone

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) on Monday detected radiation levels in the building housing the faltering No. 1 reactor that far exceeded expected levels reaching as high as 700 millisieverts per hour, the utility firm said. The latest readings for the troubled reactor has lead Japans Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency to embark on new radiation shielding measures so that work to bring the crisis under control can go ahead with risks of massive doses of deadly radiation poisoning hopefully being lessened for the TEPCO workers and their affiliates as they attempt to embark on a massive project to install a nuclear fuel cooling system. TEPCO is currently mulling ideas to protect ...
Analysis: Sony woes may cause some to rethink cloud computing Post Date: 2011-05-09 15:33:31 by socalv8

The Sony data breach that compromised the personal data of more than 100 million customers of the Japanese electronics conglomerate may claim yet another victim -- the cloud computing industry. Some businesses are rethinking plans to move to cloud-based computer systems located at remote data centers that can be accessed over the web. Shares of companies that specialize in cloud computing have been some of top-performing stocks over the past year. But the attack on Sony, as well as a massive outage at Amazon.com Inc's cloud computing center, have caused some businesses to put the brakes on plans to move their operations into the cloud. "Nobody is secure. Sony is just the tip of ...
With bin Laden's death, Netanyahu will face Obama the American hero Post Date: 2011-05-09 13:54:04 by Ferret Mike

The assassination of Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has transformed U.S. President Barack Obama from a loser to an American hero overnight. In the zero-sum game between him and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that's being played on the Israeli-Palestinian-American arena, this is bad news for Bibi. Netanyahu has been counting on giving his speech in Washington in three weeks to a strong U.S. Congress, contrasted with a president who was consistently losing ground in public opinion polls, in the media and even within the Democratic Party. On Sunday, Netanyahu rushed to be associated with Obama the winner; in the aquarium of the war on terror, Netanyahu swims like a fish. Until he ...
Get Ready for Another RollerCoaster Ride this week in the Markets:: PIGS:: * European debt crisis Eurozone fights to contain crisis amid new bid to rescue Greece Post Date: 2011-05-07 21:13:25 by buckeroo

Eurozone finance ministers are battling this weekend to contain a mounting sense of crisis about the future of the single currency as details emerge of secret talks on restructuring Greece's debts. Analysts expect a sharp sell-off of the euro when markets open tomorrow morning, as investors digest the fallout from reports â swiftly scotched â that Greece was considering leaving the eurozone. "Perhaps we have crossed a rubicon," said Jonathan Loynes, European economist at Capital Economics. "The knee-jerk response will probably be to push the euro lower. I believe the euro should be at parity with the dollar, not at $1.44 ...
U.S. Targeted Awlaki in Missile Strike Post Date: 2011-05-06 18:50:55 by go65

A U.S. drone strike in Yemen Thursday was aimed at killing Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born radical cleric who is suspected of orchestrating terrorist attacks on the U.S, but the missile missed its target, according to Yemeni and U.S. officials. V The drone strike comes less than a week after a U.S. Navy SEALs killed Osama bin Laden at a compound in Pakistan. Had the drone strike in Yemen been successful, the U.S. would have killed two of the top three most-wanted terrorists in a single week. Mr. Awlaki has emerged as the charismatic frontman of an al Qaeda branch based in Yemen, which the U.S. considers the most active terror group in the world. With bin Laden's death, some ...

It could be argued that Osama bin Laden is roasting in hell right now largely despite, not because of, Barack Obama. Had Obama gotten his way, the world would likely have watched a far different spectacle play out in lower Manhattan on Thursday: the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, rather than an Obama photo-op, 'spiking the football' at the death of Osama bin Laden. Perhaps more than any other person, Obama was responsible for efforts to hinder policies which led to bin Laden's assassination. Or, in words that won't offend our liberal friends, bin Laden's sudden cessation of life-related activities. The Obamamedia is already busy scrubbing history of Bush ...
Osama bin Laden death: Intelligence reveals US rail threat from al-Qaida Post Date: 2011-05-05 20:16:04 by Ferret Mike

Pakistanis walk by the house where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was killed. Information found at the scene has revealed a desire by al-Qaida to attack the US rail network. Photograph: Nathalie Bardou/AP The first intelligence from the treasure trove of computers and hard drives found during the raid on Osama bin Laden's Pakistani hideaway has prompted a warning that al-Qaida wanted to attack the US rail network. The Department of Homeland Security sent a warning on Thursday to American law enforcement officials that material dating back to February 2010 had detailed an al-Qaida aspiration to derail trains in the US by damaging the rails at a valley or bridge so they would crash, ...

I in my innocence was, in the aftermath of SEAL Team Six's disruption of Osama bin Laden's bucolic life in posh Abbottabad, reading editorial comment by the great newspapers of this republic. As always, the Wall Street Journal was superb, pausing to congratulate President Barack Obama for "ordering a special forces mission rather than settling for another attack with drones or stand-off weapons from afar." The Washington Post was, likewise, informative and appreciative of the president's prudent decision to let SEAL Team Six do its thing, skirting the laws of a sovereign nation and acting unilaterally to put a bullet hole in Osama's head. Then I turned to our ...

I have to admit, I read the some of the early Ulsterman articles. Have you? I should clarify though, Ive always thought his articles only represented a clever fiction. The unknown author, the unidentified DC insider, the high level of information covering a broad spectrum partisan politics that cannot be confirmed, all of it screams fantasy. However, I have to wonder if it is possible that a political fiction, presented in Ulstermans Deep Throat style of outing interesting insider information, could end up proving prescient. Ulstermans May 3rd post on the inside workings of the operation to kill or capture OBL, prior to and following the execution of the mission, paints a ...

The head of the CIA admitted yesterday that there was no live video footage of the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound as further doubts emerged about the US version of events.Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, revealed there was a 25 minute blackout during which the live feed from cameras mounted on the helmets of the US special forces was cut off. A photograph released by the White House appeared to show the President and his aides in the situation room watching the action as it unfolded. In fact they had little knowledge of what was happening in the compound. ----- Mr Panetta also told the network that the US Navy Seals made the final decision to kill bin Laden rather than the ...
bin Laden - Obama Credit and Blunder Post Date: 2011-05-03 19:12:08 by jwpegler

In a dramatic late night announcement, President Obama went on national television last night and told the American people that a Navy Seal team killed Ossama bin Laden. The U.S. government announced that they sent bin Laden to his watery grave, probably somewhere in the Arabian Sea. Bravo to Obama and CIA Chief Leon Panetta for brining bin Laden to justice. However, the decisions surrounding the disposition of bin Laden's cold, dead body were not without controversy. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but I wonder why the government didn't keep bin Laden's body around for independent verification. Obama is from Chicago -- a town notorious for winning close elections within the ...

SKY NEWS: Can US Offer Final Proof Of Osama's Death? Post Date: 2011-05-03 07:12:09 by A K A Stone

The circumstances surrounding Osama bin Laden's reported death raise urgent questions over how the US is so sure it got its man. US officials have said DNA testing has proved the al Qaeda leader was killed in a villa in Pakistan. They have also identified him by facial recognition. But photographs of Bin Laden after his reported death have not been released. The fact his body was buried at sea has so far only added to the speculation, although as a Muslim, he had to be laid to rest as quickly as possible. Under Islamic law, people can only be buried at sea if they died there, or if there is a risk their body will be exhumed or dug up if buried in the ground. The release of a ...

(Pakistani) Intel Chief: They Killed “Make Believe Obama” Post Date: 2011-05-02 18:36:56 by Hondo68

Former Pakistani intelligence chief Hamid Gul went on the Alex Jones Show today and characterized the unverified assassination of Osama bin Laden as symbolic theater. Gul said the event was a make believe drama designed to be used for Obama's upcoming re-election campaign. The supposed hit as described by the government and the corporate media is the stuff of folk lore, for legend-making and the ballad, Gull explained. Hamid Gull went on to cite the late Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, who told David Frost in late 2007 that Osama bin Laden was murdered by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who is also one of the men convicted of kidnapping and killing ...
How much did Pakistan know about Osama Post Date: 2011-05-02 16:39:39 by CZ82

Its unclear how much knowledge (if any) the Pakistani government had of Osama bin Ladens whereabouts. But the initial reports are troubling, to say the least. Not only was the terror leader living at a conspicuous compound in a fairly populated suburb of Pakistans capital, but he was also right next door to the Pakistan Military Academy, the New York Times reports: [H]e was killed in Abbottabad, a city of about 500,000, in a large and highly secured compound that, a resident of the city said, sits virtually adjacent to the grounds of a military academy. In an ironic twist, the academy was visited just last month by the Pakistani military chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, ...
