Kahlili, in the interview, then talks about making contact with the FBI, which eventually led him to the CIA. The importance of preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons is made clear in the interview, not to mention the Obama administration's incompetent and misguided policy on Iran. Excerpt: We lost the biggest opportunity in 2009, when, unfortunately, President Obama was wheeling and dealing behind the scenes, sending letters to Ayatollah Khamenei assuring him that America wouldn't interfere with Iran's internal matters, giving the regime the green light to suppress and kill -- all with the hopes of negotiations at the October meeting in Geneva... New Mideast Talks Another Exercise in Futility

New Mideast Talks Another Exercise in Futility Jonathan S. Tobin 06.24.2011 - 2:14 PM The New York Times is reporting today both the Israelis and the Palestinians have signaled they will agree to take part in a new round of peace negotiations. The purpose of these talks is reported to be an effort to avert a confrontation in the United Nations in September over the Palestinian bid for the world body to recognize their independence without making peace with Israel. That Israel would agree to new talks is not a surprise. It was not the Israelis who walked away from the negotiations in the first place. That was the Palestinians’ choice, and it reflected not so much their impatience ...

Those Fake Chinese Microchips Were Made To Disarm US Missiles
Post Date: 2011-06-28 14:44:15 by Capitalist Eric

Last year, the U.S. Navy bought 59,000 microchips for use in everything from missiles to transponders that turned out to be counterfeits from China. Wired reports the chips weren't only low-quality fakes, they had been made with a "back-door" and could have been remotely shut down at any time. If left undiscovered the result could have rendered useless U.S. missiles and killed the signal from aircraft that tells everyone whether it's friend or foe. Apparently foreign chip makers are often better at making cheap microchips and U.S. defense contractors are loathe to pass up the better deal. The problem remains with these "trojan-horse" circuits that can be ...

Iran's Revolutionary Guards tested 14 missiles on Tuesday, the second day of war games intended a show of strength to the Islamic Republic's enemies in Israel and Washington. The Iranian-made surface-to-surface missiles, with a maximum range of 2,000 km (1,250 miles), were fired simultaneously at a single target, the official IRNA news agency reported. The head of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division emphasized Iran's preparedness to strike Israel and U.S. interests in the event of any attack on Iran. "The range of our missiles has been designed based on American bases in the region as well as the Zionist regime," Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh told the ...

Greek Strikers Shut Down Transport, Government as Papandreou Seeks Backing

Greek police fired tear gas to disperse protesters in the center of Athens as labor unions shut down government services before a vote by lawmakers on austerity measures that may determine if the nation can avoid a default. Unions began their fourth general strike of the year at midnight, protesting Prime Minister George Papandreou’s five- year plan of budget cuts and asset sales. Police estimated about 12,000 people joined marches on the first day of the 48-hour walkout. Hooded youths faced volleys of tear gas as they attacked police, smashed windows at a McDonald’s Corp (MCD) restaurant and set a van on fire in the square in front of Parliament. “We are determined to ...

Alleged Dyke Hillary Clinton State Dept. ‘Instrumental in Sealing Deal’ For Lady Gaga’s Gay Pride Gig in Rome

(CNSNews.com) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday that the State Department played an instrumental role in “sealing the deal” for pop-rock star Lady Gaga to perform at a gay pride rally in Rome, Italy. Clinton specifically pointed to a letter that David Thorne, the U.S. ambassador to Italy, sent to Lady Gaga urging her to participate in the event. “And then there is the work that our embassy team in Rome has been doing,” Clinton said. “Two weeks ago they played an instrumental role in bringing Lady Gaga to Italy for a Euro Pride concert. “Now as many of you know Lady Gaga is Italian American and a strong supporter of LGBT rights,” said ...

Forecasts for Growth Drop, Some Sharply

A drumbeat of disappointing data about consumer behavior, factory sales and weak hiring in recent weeks has prompted economists to ratchet down their 2011 economic forecasts to as little as half what they expected at the beginning of the year. Two months ago, Goldman Sachs projected that the economy would grow at a 4 percent annual rate in the quarter ending in June. The company now expects the government to report no more than 2 percent growth when data for the second quarter is released in a few weeks. Macroeconomic Advisers, a research firm, projected 3.5 percent growth back in April and is now down to just 2.1 percent for this quarter. Both these firms, well respected in their ...

Russia: Iran's Nuclear Plant To Start Up In August
Post Date: 2011-06-27 12:10:38 by Brian S

MOSCOW (AP) - A top Russian diplomat reportedly says Iran's first nuclear power plant will finally start up in August. Moscow and Tehran signed a US$1 billion contract to build the 1,000-megawatt Bushehr plant in 1995, but delays—the latest caused by the replacement of damaged equipment and an attack of malicious software on the plant's computer system—left the plant unfinished for years. Russian Deputy Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying Monday that the plant is "completed" and will start up in early August. The United States and some of its allies believe the plant is part of an Iranian attempt to develop nuclear ...

Netherlands abandoning multiculturalism

Netherlands abandoning multiculturalism Thomas Lifson In a landmark turnabout, one of the cornerstones of contemporary liberalism is being rejected by one of the fountainheads of liberalism. The politically correct doctrine of multiculturalism is heading for decline, as Holland, one of the most socially liberal societies on earth, is reversing its former policy of multiculturalism. Soeren Kern, writing for Hudson New York, covers an important story that has gotten almost no notice from the American media, which wishes to pretend that multiculturalism works just fine: A new integration bill (covering letter and 15-page action plan), which Dutch Interior Minister Piet Hein Donner ...

House Rejects Move To Cut Funds From Libya Mission
Post Date: 2011-06-24 14:25:34 by Brian S

The House of Representatives rejected a bill that would have cut off support for the NATO mission in Libya, a surprising victory for the White House in its power struggle with Congress. The vote on funding followed the rejection earlier Friday of another measure that would have authorized current level of military force Libya for one year, which was seen as a rebuke to President Obama. Despite growing frustration in Congress over the White House's handling of the Libya mission, the failure of the back-to-back votes in the House will preserve the status quo for now, allowing the U.S. military to continue operations in Libya. The attempt to strip funding was in large part an attempt ...

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin said supporters of Israel must be prepared for a U.N. General Assembly vote recognizing a Palestinian state in September, saying the Palestinians have "the upper hand" in pushing through such a resolution. The Palestinians have a solid bloc of allies in the General Assembly, whereas the measure likely will not pass if brought before the U.N. Security Council, Cardin (D-Md.) said Wednesday during a speech at a conference here on the Middle East sponsored by The Israel Project. "We have to be prepared for a U.N. vote that is negative," Cardin said. "There will be consequences." Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) echoed ...

The former self-appointed spokesman for the collective of hacktivists known as "Anonymous" revealed Tuesday what he called a massive U.S spying program against the Arab world. In an email to about a dozen journalists, Barrett Brown said his Project PM had uncovered the nature of the U.S. spying operation known as Romas/COIN and its replacement called Odyssey. "For at least two years, the U.S. has been conducting a secretive and immensely sophisticated campaign of mass surveillance and data mining against the Arab world, allowing the intelligence community to monitor the habits, conversations, and activity of millions of individuals at once," Brown wrote. JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Egypt has relaunched its investigation into Ilan Grapel, the dual U.S.-Israeli citizen arrested in Egypt on spying charges. The investigation into Grapel was suspended after his first attorney resigned last week, but it was relaunched on Tuesday. Grapel is being interrogated without the assistance of an interpreter because he speaks Arabic fluently, the Egyptian newspaper al-Masri al-Youm reported Wednesday. Grapel has faced his eighth interrogation since being arrested earlier this month at his hotel in central Cairo for allegedly spying on Egypt. Grapel is accused of being an Israeli Mossad agent. Egyptian security officials said he entered the country shortly after ...

U.S. envoy Ross: Bold steps must be taken to keep Israel Jewish and Democratic

United States President Barack Obama's special assistant, Dennis Ross said Wednesday that bold steps need to be taken to make sure that Israel remains a Jewish Democratic state, but emphasized that no one can force an agreement on Israel and the Palestinians. Speaking at the Presidential Conference in Jerusalem, Ross said the greatest danger Israel faces today is sitting aside and waiting for something to happen. In order to stop the delegitimization of Israel in the world, Ross said that Israel must return to the negotiating table. Ross and U.S. diplomat David Hale are due to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his advisers to push for the renewal of Mideast peace talks. ...

Obama versus Osama: guess who the Egyptians prefer?

First the good news: U.S. President Barack Obama is more than twice as popular in Egypt as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad. Now, the bad news: the American president's standing has never been worse in Egypt, plummeting since 2008, when he received a 25 percent favorability rating, to 12 percent in 2011. Even Osama Bin Laden, the late al Qaeda leader, was more popular this year, with a 21 percent favorability ranking. The Iranian leader fared worse, dropping from 21 percent favorability rating in 2008 to a miserable 5 percent. The findings are drawn from a public poll of Egyptian views in the aftermath of the public uprising that brought about the resignation of Egypt's ...

Obama Warns Of New U.S. Tactical Spats With Israel

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama warned that new "tactical" disagreements loomed between Israel and Washington, but vowed to leverage his administration's "creative powers" in the cause of peace. Obama, who has had a testy relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke at length on the stalled peace process at a fundraiser for his 2012 reelection campaign grouping Democratic friends of Israel. He said that as a difficult, challenging time loomed in the Middle East over the next few years, one inviolable principle was that the bond between the United States and Israel "isn't breakable." "What is also going to be true ...

As CEO of the federal government, the president, Barack Hussein Obama, bears ultimate responsibility for the Gunrunning scandal perpetrated by the Justice Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Let's use the yardstick Obama himself used when he blamed bank and corporate CEOs for the recession. By that yardstick, Obama must take the blame for the ATF gun scandal. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearings on activities of the Justice Department and its ATF reveal the scandalous behavior of Obama's government. Now, though, it appears the Obama administration is about to dump certain ATF bureaucrats, blaming the whole scandal on ...

MOSCOW — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday he wanted a second Kremlin term but it was still early to say whether he would run for re-election in 2012, noting he could not imagine competing with Vladimir Putin. With just nine months left before Russians will go to polls to elect a new president, neither Medvedev, 45, nor his mentor Prime Minister Putin, 58, have put forth an official bid to run amid intensifying claims from businesses and observers that the continuing uncertainty was hurting Russia's investment climate. "I will tell you one thing: I believe that any leader who holds the post of president simply must want to run. "Another issue is whether ...

LE BOURGET (France), June 20 (RIA Novosti) France has transferred to Russia all the technology it asked for under a $1.7-billion deal for two French-built Mistral class amphibious assault ships for the Russian Navy, a Russian arms exporter said on Monday. Under the deal signed on Friday, the first warship will be delivered in 2014 and the second in 2015. "The French side has transferred all technologies, including the Zenit-9 [command and control] system, as well as two other systems," said Anatoly Isaikin, head of the Rosoboronexport state-controlled arms exporter. A formal contract for the construction of the two Mistral class ships will be signed separately at a later date, ...

Convicted US Spy Pollard Not Allowed To Attend Father's Funeral Despite Israeli Requests

The White House had spurned requests by Israel to let Jonathan Pollard visit his father before he died Saturday. Morris Pollard was buried Monday in Mishawaka, Ind., without his son present. The only mention of Jonathan Pollard during the graveside service was when his sister said one of their father's few regrets was "not being able to help his son achieve freedom." Pollard has been in prison in the U.S. since 1985 and was sentenced to life in prison two years later. The elder Pollard was a retired biology professor at the University of Notre Dame and was 95 when he died.
