The US power grab in Africa Post Date: 2011-10-21 06:50:46 by A K A Stone

Beware of strangers bearing gifts. Post-modern Amazon and United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally landed in Tripoli - on a military jet - to lavish praise on the dodgy Transitional National Council (TNC), those pportunists/defectors/Islamists formerly known as "North Atlantic Treaty Organization rebels". Clinton was greeted on Tuesday "on the soil of free Libya" (her words) by what the New York Times quaintly described as an "irregular militia" (translation: a heavily armed gang that is already raising hell against other heavily armed gangs), before meeting TNC chairman Mustafa Abdel-NATO (formerly known as Jalil). The bulk of the US gifts - ...

Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was killed Thursday in his hometown of Sirte, after National Transitional Council (NTC) forces captured the town. He was apparently found hiding in a concrete drainage pipe. According to the BBC, Gaddafi was reportedly killed by Mohammed al-Bibi, a young man in his 20s, who said that Gaddafi said simply "don't shoot" before the man opened fire. Gaddafi was apparently found with a golden pistol, which was subsequently brandished by the revolutionary fighters in celebration.

(10-20) 13:27 PDT Cherry Hill, N.J. (AP) -- For decades, Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi was seen as an international villain, but for Susan Cohen he was a personal enemy, one she read up on daily for more than 20 years. Her 20-year-old daughter was one of the 270 people many of them New York and New Jersey residents killed when Pam Am Flight 103 was blown out of the sky by a terrorist bomb over the Scottish town of Lockerbie on Dec. 21, 1988, allegedly at Gadhafi's behest. "This was sort of like Dracula: Is Dracula really dead?" said Cohen, of Cape May Court House, N.J. "It's great now that we know. I didn't want him to go to a trial. When you ...

Poster Comment:Wild footage of Kaddafi still alive, but the crap beaten out of him just before being murdered by his excited Muslimaniacal captors/executioners. If you listen, you can clearly hear "ALLAHU AKBAR!!" orgasmically screamed as Kaddafi is marched onward toward his eventually 0bama-aided illegal execution. Muzzie-on-Muzzie "justice"? I have no love for Kaddafi, but this just make the US look like a co-thug. THIS is exactly the way 0bama and his Commie-brethren street thugs would treat conservative Americans IF they could.

(Reuters) - Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi died of wounds suffered in his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, a senior NTC military official said. "He was also hit in his head," the official said. "There was a lot of firing against his group and he died." There was no independent confirmation of his remarks.

'One super-corporation runs the global economy'... and it could be terrifyingly unstable Post Date: 2011-10-19 18:54:02 by A K A Stone

A University of Zurich study 'proves' that a small group of companies - mainly banks - wields huge power over the global economy. The study is the first to look at all 43,060 transnational corporations and the web of ownership between them - and created a 'map' of 1,318 companies at the heart of the global economy. The study found that 147 companies formed a 'super entity' within this, controlling 40 per cent of its wealth. All own part or all of one another. Most are banks - the top 20 includes Barclays and Goldman Sachs. But the close connections mean that the network could be vulnerable to collapse. The 1318 transnational corporations that form the core of ...
US Hawks Behind Iraq War Rally for Strikes Against Iran Post Date: 2011-10-18 12:22:16 by Brian S

WASHINGTON - Key neo-conservatives and other right-wing hawks who championed the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq are calling for military strikes against Iran in retaliation for its purported murder-for-hire plot against the Saudi ambassador here. Leading the charge is the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI), the ideological successor to the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), which played a critical role in mobilizing support for "regime change" in Iraq in the late 1990s and subsequently spearheaded the public campaign to invade the country after the 9/11 attacks. The group sent reporters appeals by two of its leaders for military action on its letterhead Monday. In a column ...
Ahmadinejad ‘Laughs’ at Murder Plot Post Date: 2011-10-18 12:04:18 by Brian S

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has denied Tehrans involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S., saying everyone laughs at the accusation. The U.S. administration is sorely mistaken, Ahmadinejad told Al Jazeera. The economic problems of the U.S. are very serious, and by accusing Iran it's not going to solve any problem." He added, Terror is for people ... who don't have any logic. The people of Iran are pro-logic. Ahmadinejad may have bigger things to worry about: The Washington Post reports that Irans nuclear program is beset by problems, including malfunctioning equipment and parts shortages. ...
Warming Revives Dream of Sea Route in Russian Arctic Post Date: 2011-10-18 08:54:13 by war

ARKHANGELSK, Russia Rounding the northernmost tip of Russia in his oceangoing tugboat this summer, Capt. Vladimir V. Bozanov saw plenty of walruses, some pods of beluga whales and in the distance a few icebergs. One thing Captain Bozanov did not encounter while towing an industrial barge 2,300 miles across the Arctic Ocean was solid ice blocking his path anywhere along the route. Ten years ago, he said, an ice-free passage, even at the peak of summer, was exceptionally rare. But environmental scientists say there is now no doubt that global warming is shrinking the Arctic ice pack, opening new sea lanes and making the few previously navigable routes near shore accessible more ...

Palestinian groups are planning celebrations to mark Israel's imminent release of hundreds of prisoner "heroes" in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Israeli President Shimon Peres received late Saturday the files of Palestinians prisoners to be pardoned as part of the deal for Shalit's release, his office said. On Tuesday, 477 Palestinian prisoners, including 27 women, are expected to be freed in the first stage of a deal for the return of Sergeant Shalit, who has been held for more than five years by Palestinian militants in Gaza. Gaza's Hamas rulers plan to release Shalit, captured in a cross-border raid in 2006, with the understanding that another 550 ...

Germany said European Union leaders wont provide the complete fix to the euro-area debt crisis that global policy makers are pushing for at an Oct. 23 summit. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has made it clear that dreams that are taking hold again now that with this package everything will be solved and everything will be over on Monday wont be able to be fulfilled, Steffen Seibert, Merkels chief spokesman, said at a briefing in Berlin today. The search for an end to the crisis surely extends well into next year. Group of 20 finance ministers and central bankers concluded weekend talks in Paris endorsing parts of Europes emerging plan to ...

Captured: Manssor Arbabsiar was arrested in September for an alleged plot to blow up the Saudi Ambassador in Washington A friend of a former Texas used car dealer accused of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador in the United States says he never thought of his one-time business partner as politically motivated, much less a key player in a potential terrorist act. Manssor Arbabsiar was known as 'Jack' to his friends because his name was too hard to pronounce, said David Tomscha, who briefly owned a used car lot with him in the Texas Gulf Coast city of Corpus Christi. Tomscha said his friend was likable, albeit a bit lazy. The news came in the wake of shocking ...

Liam Fox Resignation Exposes Tory Links To US Radical Right Post Date: 2011-10-15 18:58:35 by Brian S

David Cameron has been accused of allowing a secret rightwing agenda to flourish at the heart of the Conservative party, as fallout from the resignation of Liam Fox exposed its close links with a US network of lobbyists, climate change deniers and defence hawks. In a sign that Fox's decision to fall on his sword will not mark the end of the furore engulfing the Tories, both Liberal Democrat and Labour politicians stepped up their demands for the prime minister to explain why several senior members of his cabinet were involved in an Anglo-American organisation apparently at odds with his party's environmental commitments and pledge to defend free healthcare. At the heart of the ...

Inspired by the Occupy Wall St movement and Spain's "Indignants", demonstrators from Asia to Europe took to the streets. Riot police in Rome charged hundreds of protesters and fired water cannons, while a group of activists set alight a defence ministry annex nearby. Flames could be seen coming out of the roof and windows of the building on Via Labicana as firefighters struggled to tame the blaze. Dozens of masked protesters could be seen in the area, which had not been cordoned off. The violence was said to be caused by hooded militants known as "black blocks," who have infiltrated demonstrations in the past. There were no immediate reports of injuries. ...

Suspected US air strikes took out a raft of top Al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen barely two weeks after a drone killed US-born jihadist cleric Anwar al-Awlaqi, provincial and tribal sources said on Saturday. The seven killed in Friday evenings triple raid included a son and cousin of Awlaqi, as well as three other members of his tribe and the media chief of Al-Qaedas feared Yemen arm, the sources told AFP. The Yemeni defence ministry confirmed that seven Al-Qaeda militants, including its regional media chief, had been killed in a raid. But it reiterated its standard denial of US involvement in offensive operations on Yemeni soil and insisted its own forces carried it out. A member ...
Missing Libya Missiles Find Their Way to Gaza Border Post Date: 2011-10-14 11:26:27 by Brian S

Some of the thousands of surface-to-air missiles that have gone missing since the collapse of the Gadhafi regime in Libya have now turned up just miles from the Israeli border. U.S. officials say there were 20,000 Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles in Libya before the uprising, and thousands have disappeared in the looting of Moammar Gadhafi's arm caches. According to the Washington Post, many of those Russian-made anti-aircraft weapons are being sold in Egyptian black markets, and so many are available the price has dropped from $10,000 to $4,000. Egyptian officials told the paper they have intercepted looted Libyan weapons, including anti-aircraft guns, missiles and artillery, on ...

MADRID Indignant activists, angered by a biting economic crisis they blame on politicians and bankers, vow to take to the streets worldwide on Saturday in a protest spanning 71 nations. It is the first global show of power by the movement, born May 15 when a rally in Madrids central square of Puerta del Sol sparked a protest that spread nationwide, then to other countries. As governments cut deep into welfare spending to try to trim huge sovereign debts, the protests have grown and this weekends demonstrations are being organised in Madrid, New York and around the world. United in one voice, we will let politicians, and the financial elites they ...
Iranian Terror Plot: Fake, Fake, Fake Post Date: 2011-10-13 20:39:39 by jwpegler

Fake, fake, fake Im talking about the latest anti-Iranian propaganda coming out of Washington, which claims the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were involved in a plot to take out the Saudi ambassador to the US and blow up both the Saudi and Israeli embassies. The narrative reads like a formulaic melodrama: two Iranians, one a naturalized US citizen, purportedly approached someone they thought was a member of a Mexican drug cartel according to the indictment [.pdf], it was a sophisticated drug cartel, not the plebeian sort and proposed paying him $1.5 million to murder Adel al Jubeir, the Kingdoms ambassador in Washington oh, and ...

By Leila Fadel, EL ARISH, Egypt Large caches of weapons from Libya are making their way across the Egyptian border and flooding black markets in Egypts already unstable Sinai Peninsula, according to current and former Egyptian military officials and arms traders in the Sinai. Egyptian security officials have intercepted surface-to-air missiles, most of them shoulder-launched, on the road to Sinai and in the smuggling tunnels connecting Egypt to the Gaza Strip since Moammar Gaddafi fell from power in Libya in August, a military official in Cairo said. Arms traders said the weapons available on Sinais clandestine market include rockets and antiaircraft guns. The seizures ...
Biggest U.S. Free-Trade Accord Since ’94 Passed Post Date: 2011-10-13 10:53:04 by Brian S

The U.S. Congress approved free- trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama, bringing an end to years of stalemate and offering what supporters said was the biggest opportunity for exporters in decades. The bills go to President Barack Obama, who spent two years seeking to broaden Democratic support for pacts revised from initial agreements reached by his predecessor. The South Korea deal, the biggest for the U.S. since the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1994, removes duties on almost two-thirds of American farm exports, and phases out tariffs on more than 95 percent of industrial and consumer exports within five years. Yesterdays step may diminish concern that ...

Hiring Narcos to Murder the Saudi Ambassador? If It's True, Tehran Is Pretty Dumb Posted by Tim Padgett Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 4:56 pm If Iranian government operatives really did try to contract a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S., as the Obama Administration alleges today, then they weren't just being diabolical. They were being fairly stupid. Granted, the Zetas the drug mafia that Iranian-American Manssor Arbabsiar allegedly thought he was dealing with on behalf of Tehran are certainly Mexico's most bloodthirsty: they are the narcos that brought beheadings and wholesale massacres of innocent civilians to the nightmarish ...

Just when you think the Middle Easy couldn't get any weirder, along comes an Iranian plot to assassinate the ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Washington. The plot has was described by FBI Director Robert Muller as plucked right out of a Hollywood script if so, it would be a truly awful Hollywood script. None of it measures up to Iran's unsurpassed skill in conducting assassinations. As for motives, there are no convincing ones. According to the Department of Justice indictment, an Iranian-American used-car salesman attempted to recruit a Mexican drug cartel to carry out the hit. Other parts of the plan included bombing the Israeli embassy in Washington, as well as the Israeli ...
