Negotiators in Brussels worked well into the night on Tuesday in order to codify a new carbon-dioxide emissions tariff on imported goods that climate alarmists contend are heating the planet. Among the goods set to be targeted for the new “carbon tax” are iron, steel, cement, fertilizers, aluminum and electricity. Dubbed the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the new taxation mechanism was hailed as “the first of its kind” by the European Parliament. Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai was sentenced to a jail sentence of five years and nine months on December 10 after being convicted of fraud in a contractual dispute. Lai, the 75-year-old founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper, had just finished a 20-month jail term due to various charges, such as his role in demonstrations and gatherings deemed illegal by the pro-Beijing regime. Every day doctors kill about 40 Canadians. The government euphemism for this is “Medical Assistance in Dying”. Under Canada’s euthanasia legislation MAiD is open to anyone who is experiencing “unbearable physical or mental suffering from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable”. A Vancouver woman named Jennyfer Hatch died on October 23 at the hands of a MAiD doctor. She was suffering from a rare disease, Ehlers–Danlos syndrome, which gave her constant pain. The Biden administration has secured the release of WNBA star Britney Griner from Russia in a prisoner exchange for Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who was serving a 25-year sentence in the US. Griner was arrested in Russia on February 17 on a drug charge for the possession of cannabis oil in vape cartridges.
