That its fundamentally dishonest hasnt stopped Mitt Romney from repeating his central critique of Barack Obamas foreign policy over and over the idea that the president went around the world and apologized for America. So it shouldnt be surprising that Romneys response to the attacks on U.S. diplomatic installations in Egypt and Libya was rooted in the same caricature of Obama as apologizer-in-chief.Its disgraceful, Romneys statement, which was released late Tuesday night, read, that the Obama administrations first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with ...
Buchanan: Has Obama called Bibi’s bluff? Post Date: 2012-09-11 11:49:59 by Brian S

9/11/2012 04:22 AM RESIZE: AAA Print What is Bibi Netanyahu up to? With all his warnings of Irans nuclear capability, of red lines being crossed, of breakout, of the international community failing in its duty, of an existential threat to Israel, what is the prime ministers game? The answer is apparent. Bibi wants Irans nuclear program shut down, all enrichment ended, all enriched uranium removed and guarantees that Iran will never again start up a nuclear program. And if Tehran refuses to surrender its right even to a peaceful nuclear program, he wants its nuclear facilities, especially the enrichment facility at Fordow, deep ...

Why Is Putin Stockpiling Gold? Russia Is Bulking Up Its Gold Reserve Post Date: 2012-09-07 14:28:16 by Brian S

I cant imagine it means anything cheerful that Vladimir Putin, the Russian czar, is stockpiling gold as fast as he can get his hands on it. According to the World Gold Council, Russia has more than doubled its gold reserves in the past five years. Putin has taken advantage of the financial crisis to build the worlds fifth-biggest gold pile in a handful of years, and is buying about half a billion dollars worth every month. It emerged last month that financial gurus George Soros and John Paulson had also increased their bullion exposure, but its Putin thats really caught my eye. No one else in the world plays global power politics as ruthlessly as ...
Senior Catholic Cleric: 'If Jews Want Respect, They Must Respect Others' Post Date: 2012-09-07 11:25:43 by Brian S

The "price tag" vandalism this week of the monastery at Latrun, in which the culprits sprayed the building's facade with the words "Jesus is a monkey" and set the front door alight, prompted a fierce statement of condemnation signed by Catholic church leaders here. One of the statement's senior signatories, who holds the title of custos (Latin for guardian ) of holy sites on behalf of the Vatican, is a Franciscan priest of Italian origin named Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa. Prior to the church's statement, which questioned what was going on in Israeli society that would prompt such an act, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the vandalism, calling ...
Iran’s Strategic Diplomatic Victory Over The Washington-Israeli Axis Post Date: 2012-09-06 15:15:59 by Brian S

by James Petras / September 6th, 2012 Iran chaired, hosted and led the recently rejuvenated Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting in Teheran, attended by delegates from 120 countries, including 31 heads of state and 29 foreign secretaries of state. Even the United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, notorious mouthpiece of Washington, felt obligated to address a forum attended by two-thirds of the member countries of the UN, despite State Department and Israeli objections. Any objective evaluation of the meeting, its venue, the attendance, resolutions and political impact leads to one paramount conclusion: the NAM meeting was a strategic diplomatic victory for Iran and a ...
THE REPUBLICANS CROSS THE RUBICON Post Date: 2012-09-05 12:03:06 by Capitalist Eric

During the 1980s NPR was continually on the case of the Reagan administration. NPR certainly had a Democratic slant, and a lot of its reporting about the Reagan administration was one-sided. Yet, NPR was an independent voice, and it sometimes got things correct. In the 21st century that voice has disappeared, which was the intention of the George W. Bush regime. Bush put a Republican woman in charge who made it clear to NPR producers and show hosts that the federal part of their funding was at risk. Money often over-rules principle, and when corporations added their really big money NPR collapsed. Today the local stations still pretend to be funded by listeners, but if you have noticed, ...

A lack of macroeconomic stability, the business communitys continued mistrust of the government and concerns over its fiscal health were some of the reasons for the downgrade, according to the annual survey. "A number of weaknesses are chipping away at its ...

CAIRO (AP) -- Egypt's Islamist leadership took a new move Tuesday to put its stamp on the country's government, appointing members of the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood as provincial governors and installing ultraconservatives and other Islamists in the state's top human rights body and a powerful media council. The shake-up was the latest step by President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood to reshape state institutions that were long the monopoly of ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak, his ruling party and the military that backed him. Supporters have praised the moves as part of a drive to cleanse the system of Mubarak loyalists after Morsi was inaugurated in late June ...
Israeli Settlers 'Desecrate Christian Monastery'; Church Leaders Decry Vandalism, 'Teaching Of Contempt' For Christians In Israel Post Date: 2012-09-04 17:33:34 by Brian S

Israeli police are investigating after vandals attacked a famous Christian monastery - setting fire to its door and spray-painting "Jesus is a monkey" on the wall. The Latrun Monastery, on occupied land in the Ayalon Valley, 15 miles west of Jerusalem, was daubed with pro-settler graffiti. Officers believe it was in possible retaliation for the eviction of 50 families from the nearby unauthorised Migron settlement on Sunday. Migron, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, was cleared after an Israeli court ruled it had been illegally built on Palestinian land. The settlers left the area quietly and moved to temporary housing at another settlement, but eight youths who protested ...

China manufacturing dips to a nine-month low in August Post Date: 2012-09-02 22:35:01 by A K A Stone

China's manufacturing activity fell to a nine-month low in August, adding to fears that its economy is slowing faster than estimated. The official Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell to 49.2, the lowest reading since November 2011, data released over the weekend showed. PMI is a key gauge of manufacturing activity and a reading below 50 shows contraction. Analysts said China was being hurt by a slowdown in global and domestic demand. "China's manufacturing sector continues to struggle, weighed down by a significant domestic slowdown, a wholly unsupportive external climate and a completely insufficient policy response," Alistair Thornton of IHS Global Insight said ...

LONDON Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu called Sunday for Tony Blair and George Bush to face prosecution at the International Criminal Court for their role in the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq Tutu, the retired Anglican Churchs archbishop of South Africa, wrote in an op-ed piece for The Observer newspaper that the ex-leaders of Britain and the United States should be made to answer for their actions. The Iraq war has destabilized and polarized the world to a greater extent than any other conflict in history, wrote Tutu, who was awarded the Nobel prize in 1984. Those responsible for this suffering and loss of life should be treading the ...

Because Israel views the threats by the government of the IRI in conjunction with its efforts to develop nuclear weapons and means of delivery as existential threats, Israel will take all actions necessary, specifically including unilateral and preemptive military action, to protect its citizens from the threats posed by representatives of the government of the IRI and to assure Israel's continued survival. To minimize civilian casualties, the population of Iran should immediately and permanently evacuate populated areas ...

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) A senior Iranian nuclear official says the sole reactor at the countrys Bushehr nuclear power plant has reached full capacity. Iranian deputy nuclear chief Mohammad Ahmadian said Saturday the reactor was brought to its full capacity of 1,000 megawatts Friday evening. The reactor went into operation for the first time last year at minimum capacity. The Islamic Republic built the nuclear power plant in the southern Iranian port of Bushehr with Russian help. The facility is a cornerstone of Irans drive to become a technological leader among Muslim nations, with efforts such as a space program and long-range missile development. The United ...
U.S. Scales-Back Military Exercise with Israel, Affecting Potential Iran Strike Post Date: 2012-09-01 12:24:20 by Brian S

Seven months ago, Israel and the United States postponed a massive joint military exercise that was originally set to go forward just as concerns were brimming that Israel would launch a strike on Irans nuclear facilities. The exercise was rescheduled for late October, and appears likely to go forward on the cusp of the U.S. presidential election. But it wont be nearly the same exercise. Well-placed sources in both countries have told TIME that Washington has greatly reduced the scale of U.S. participation, slashing by more than two-thirds the number of American troops going to Israel and reducing both the number and potency of missile interception systems at the core of the ...

Vice premier says mixed messages from foreign powers help discredit the military option against Iranian nuclear facilities. Vice Premier Moshe Ya'alon said on Friday he feared Iran did not believe it faced a real military threat from the outside world because of mixed messages from foreign powers, including the United States. "We have an exchange of views, including with our friends in the United States, who in our opinion, are in part responsible for this feeling in Iran," he told Israel's 100FM radio station. "There are many cracks in the ring closing tighter on Iran. We criticize this," he said, also singling out UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for ...

Republican Senators Plan To Introduce Resolution Pledging Military, Economic And Diplomatic Backing For Israel Should It Strike Iran Post Date: 2012-08-29 13:46:15 by Brian S

TAMPA, Fla. (JTA) -- Republican senators plan to introduce a non-binding resolution pledging military, economic and diplomatic backing for Israel should it strike Iran. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told JTA on Tuesday that he and Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) were drafting the resolution for introduction next month in the Senate. Graham, attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa this week, said he was seeking Democratic co-sponsors. The resolution would underscore the Senate's hopes for peace and for sanctions to force Iran to make its nuclear program more transparent, he said. "But in the event Israel had to take preventive action, we would have their back," ...
The RNC shouldn’t honor Ron Paul at the convention [Full Thread] Post Date: 2012-08-29 10:05:09 by calcon

With the cancellation of the first night of the Republican convention in Tampa, organizers scrambled to adjust the schedule and find space across the remaining three nights for events originally slated for Monday. Unfortunately, it appears that convention planners missed an opportunity to reverse the ridiculous and regrettable decision made by the Romney campaign to feature a video tribute to retiring congressman Ron Paul, who has not even endorsed Governor Romney. Paul did win as many as 175 delegates, and his acolytes are already trumpeting their supposed success in influencing the platform that will be unveiled in Tampa. Romneys political advisers are of course more concerned with ...

U.S. Funds Israeli Missile Defense But Can’t Get the Technology Post Date: 2012-08-24 21:07:30 by We The People

The United States has spent over $200 million on a highly effective missile defense system and plans to spend nearly $700 million more on it yet U.S. troops in the field, including the highest-ranking military officer in the land, are still largely at the mercy of insurgents rockets. Why?The answer is that U.S. taxpayers have been shelling out big bucks for the defense of a foreign country; and that country, in turn, has been unwilling to disclose to Washington the details of the missile defense system it is funding. All the while, a company owned by that same countrys government is raking in profits manufacturing and selling the system. The country in question is Israel, ...
Presstitute Media Cover-up Culture Post Date: 2012-08-21 10:51:12 by Capitalist Eric

Conspiracy theories have now blossomed into what the smug presstitute media calls aconspiracy culture. According to the presstitutes, Americans have to find some explanation for their frustrations and failings, so Americans shift the blame to the Bilderbergers, the Rothschilds, the New World Order and so forth and so on. Readers will not be surprised that I disagree with the presstitutes. Indeed, the conspiracy culture is the product of the presstitute medias failure to investigate and to report truthfully. I am certain that the Western media is worse than the Soviet media was. The Soviet media devised ways for helping the public to read between the lines, whereas the ...
Obama 'cancelled missions to kill bin Laden THREE TIMES after getting cold feet - until Hillary Clinton stepped in Post Date: 2012-08-20 18:21:28 by jwpegler

Barack Obama cancelled three operations to kill Osama bin Laden before finally going ahead with the mission at the insistence of Hillary Clinton, according to a new book. The explosive allegation is contained in an expose by journalist Rich Miniter, who argues that the White Houses carefully-crafted narrative of Obama as a decisive leader who dispatched the al-Qaeda leader despite the doubts of advisers is a myth. Bin Laden was eventually killed by US Navy SEALs inside his compound in Abbotobad, Pakistan in May 2011. The killing of bin Laden is at the centre of Obamas re-election campaign and is likely to be highlighted yet again by his aides on the eleventh anniversary of ...
