China Enforces New Cybersecurity Rules in Tibet
Post Date: 2023-02-05 00:07:07 by Charles_Byrd

A new Chinese cyber law in Tibet materialized on Wednesday (Feb. 1), with the government declaring harsher punishments for anyone found to be stirring “public disorder by engaging in separatist acts.” The law, initially passed in 2016, was formulated to boost digital state surveillance and censorship in the region. These new measures enable the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to single out Tibetans for online activity regarded by authorities as critical of Chinese rule in the region. Click for Full Text!

National Conservatives Can't Find a Good Excuse for Viktor Orbán's Inflation Disaster
Post Date: 2023-02-02 22:56:00 by Charles_Byrd

Viktor Orbán is a hero to American national conservatives. So when in January 2022 the Hungarian Prime Minister announced he would supplement price caps on fuel and mortgage rates by mandating that sugar, flour, sunflower oil, chicken breasts, pork legs, and certain milk products be sold to consumers at lower October 2021 prices, some of this anti–free market cohort celebrated his decisive action to "protect families" from inflation. "But, but, but, what would Milton Friedman say!" tweeted Compact magazine editor Sohrab Ahmari, mocking advocates of market economics. This was "the party of the state for the win." Well, we know what Friedman would ...

Is the Japanese Low Inflation–Low Interest Rate Model at an End?

The macroeconomic situation in Japan seems to be coming to a head. When the Bank of Japan, under its President Haruhiko Kuroda, announced on December 20, 2022, that it would raise its interest rate ceiling on ten- year Japanese government bonds from 0.25 percent to 0.50 percent, share prices in Tokyo plummeted and the Japanese yen appreciated sharply. The “Kuroda shock,” which in the eyes of some observers heralded a turning point in Japan’s thirty-year low, zero, and negative interest rate policy, sent shock waves through the international financial markets. Meanwhile, the markets are betting against the Bank of Japan being able to keep its self-imposed interest rate ...

Japan Faces Demographic Disaster

Japan’s Prime Minister has warned that his country will fall over an economic and social cliff unless it reverses its population decline. “Our country is on the brink of being unable to maintain the functions of society,” said Fumio Kishida at the beginning of this year’s Diet session. Mr Kishida’s apocalyptic statement is by no means news. Japan’s population has been shrinking for years. Rural towns are being abandoned. The number of people in nursing homes is constantly rising. Schools are closing because there are no children to fill the classrooms. Click for Full Text!

Xi Jinping Lures CELAC Summit to Embrace Belt and Road Initiative

Authoritarian Chinese leader Xi Jinping participated in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) summit last week, encouraging the Western Hemisphere to adopt the Belt and Road Chinese debt-trap scheme and stating that China views the region as a “key partner in enhancing solidarity.” CELAC is a left-leaning platform that can be likened to the Organization of American States (OAS). It is presently conducting a head-of-state conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosted by socialist President Alberto Fernandez. Argentina is a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner, as are various other members of the coalition. Click for Full Text!

Even as the National Health Service struggles with a shortage of doctors, the British government has ordered medical schools to hold to a previously announced cap and admit no more than 7,500 medical students this year. The cap was put in place to limit the cost of educating medical students. It costs the government £160,000 (about $200,000) to educate each new physician. Click for Full Text!

Chinese Province to Let Unmarried People Have Children to Tackle Falling Birth Rate

Health authorities in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan will permit unmarried individuals to have children, raise a family, and qualify for benefits previously allocated only to married couples in the most recent attempt to boost the country’s plummeting birth rate. Although the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mandates that only married women are lawfully permitted to give birth, record low marriage and birth rates in recent years have prompted the provincial authorities to revise a 2019 rule to include singles who want to have children. Taliban terrorists detained three Afghans and two Chinese citizens suspected of trying to smuggle lithium across the Chinese border, the Afghan news outlet Khaama Press reported. Various Afghan and foreign reports about the incident failed to name the men in question, and did not detail any more information about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s possible culpability in either the smuggling or the arrests. One report, quoting local Taliban “authorities,” said that the men were caught with 1,000 metric tons of rocks with lithium. The incident took place in Jalalabad, on Afghanistan’s eastern border with China. Click for Full Text!

The shaming images that show where our iPhones, laptops and Tesla cars REALLY come from: The truth about the Congolese mines where kids are paid $2-a-day to dig for cobalt

For years, big tech companies like Apple and Tesla have assured the customers of their glossy stores and showrooms that all their goods are ethically sourced and sold. But a new series of images taken from inside mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 90 percent of the world's cobalt is mined and used to make the batteries that power our tech-led lives, raise uncomfortable questions. Russia’s Intentions Are Clarifying

We forget, perhaps, that from 1 March 1950 the Soviet rouble was on a gold standard at 4 roubles 45 kopecks for 1 gram of pure gold until 1961, when Khrushchev devalued it and refixed it to the dollar. Stalin had been a signatory to the Bretton Woods agreement but refused to join it and make the rouble subservient to the dollar as its intermediary for a gold standard. The Soviets’ rouble was eventually driven off its gold standard by disastrous economic policies. Faced with reforming the command economy system and accepting the economic failures of communism, in 1961 the currency had to give way. This is worth mentioning to remind us that the Russians are no strangers to a gold ...

On January 23rd, 2023 Bill Gates joined Lowy Institute Executive Director Dr Michael Fullilove in Australia to talk about global health, pandemic preparedness, food security and climate change. In the interview, Bill Gates admits that the vaccines are not blocking infection, they don’t stop variants and they have a very short duration. This, after he and his cohorts spent the past three years demanding that we take the vaccine or be ousted from society because the vaccines “stopped the spread” and were “effective”. These Will Be The World's Next Megacities

By 2050, 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities, up from 54 percent in 2020, according to a new report by the Institute for Economics & Peace. This increase is being driven by both population growth and a continued shift towards urbanization, particularly to so called ‘megacities’ – metropolises that have a population of 10 million or more. As Statista’s Anna Fleck details below, urbanization takes place because of both push and pull factors. The IEA describes how in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital of Kinshasa, factors pushing people away from rural areas include issues of violence and a general lack of security, the presence ...

CCP Further Tightens Control Over Media, Limiting Journalists

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has tightened media control by putting more limitations in its criteria for China’s journalist-qualification examination. On Dec. 30 last year, The Epoch Times reported, the CCP’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) declared a series of new “Measures for the Professional Qualification Examination for Journalists” to be implemented July 1. These new regulations, jointly published by the NPPA and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, have a purported aim to “implement the requirements of Party-controlled propaganda, Party- controlled ideology, and Party-controlled media.” Click for Full Text!

In 2022 around 330,000 people crossed into Europe illegally, according to Frontex, the European Union’s border agency – the largest number since the Migrant Crisis of 2015-16 and a 64 percent increase on 2021. The figures do not include the 13 million refugees who fled Ukraine and entered the EU due to the conflict with Russia, ten million of whom have subsequently returned home. Click for Full Text!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address on Monday that he decided to make “personnel decisions” after Ukraine’s deputy infrastructure minister, Vasyl Lozynskyy, was dismissed and arrested over allegations of embezzlement. Human Rights Watch Says Israel Designed Entry Rules to Further Cut Off Palestinians From Outside World

A top Human Rights Watch official warned Monday that restrictions recently placed by Israel's apartheid government on "foreigners" – including Palestinians – seeking entry into the West Bank could turn the illegally occupied territory into "another Gaza," which is often described as the "world's largest open-air prison." Last year, a three-page document used by Israeli authorities to screen foreign nationals wishing to enter the West Bank was replaced by a 61- page guide detailing occupation forces' policies and procedures for foreigners seeking to visit only the West Bank, excluding East Jerusalem, or to extend a stay for specific ...

A Maltese man is being threatened with fines and imprisonment for publicly testifying to having been freed from homosexuality by Jesus Christ and suggesting that others could also leave the LGBT lifestyle behind. Matthew Grech, a 33-year-old resident of the island nation of Malta, was served a police summons because he allegedly “advertised conversion practices” during an April 2022 interview with PMnews Malta, a conservative media platform. Such actions violated Malta’s 2016 Affirmation of Sexual Orientation, Gender and Gender Expression Act, asserted Inspector Roderick Attard. Click for Full Text!

French Government to Reboot Ambitious Nuclear Policy to Tackle Energy Crisis

In light of the immensity and gravity of the energy crisis in Europe, the French government indicated its plans a few months ago to drastically amend its stance on nuclear power. After having lobbied for the use of renewable energies instead of nuclear power to address the nation’s energy demands, France has now been forced by circumstances to urgently relaunch an ambitious nuclear investment policy. The mandate to close power stations, initiated during President Emmanuel Macron’s previous five-year term, is no longer relevant. Click for Full Text!

The Farce Of Europe

Big events reveal things that may have been in plain sight for a while, but they remained hidden for cultural or political reasons. The mortgage crisis of 2008 is a good example of something that was hidden in plain sight. The sub-prime corruption should have been obvious, but few people saw it. When the system started to lock up, everyone suddenly noticed the massive corruption. The signs were there for a long time, but it was the fear of collapse that forced everyone to face it. We are seeing an example of this with the war in Ukraine. Europe has been a land run by ridiculous people for a long time, but it was concealed by tradition and the Global American Empire pretending that European ...

There is, apparently, a saying in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the effect that anyone who says that he understands the Lebanon does not understand the Lebanon. I am not sure that this saying does not apply to most countries, possibly even to Liechtenstein. Nevertheless, human beings are compelled by their nature to try to understand what cannot be understood; and therefore when, after a visit, my brother-in-law left behind him a magazine devoted to the Middle East with a long series of articles devoted to the Lebanon, I began to read it. Even a single article had the power to confuse. One must not mistake the baltajiya for the qabadayat or the dhahiye, but I did not find it ...

Israel’s Judicial Reform ‘Controversy’ Is Much Ado About Nothing

Like a dog returning to its own vomit, the supercilious elites of our so-called international community maintain a rather curious fixation. Like clockwork, these elites always find a way of singling out for opprobrium one tiny nation-state, no bigger than New Jersey. That state, of course, is the Jewish state, the modern State of Israel. There is simply no other country on Earth that attracts such disproportionate, and often vehement, disparagement from our would-be moral superiors. The current hullabaloo, merely the most recent manifestation of this inveterate Jew-bashing addiction, takes the form of the roiling debate over the new Benjamin Netanyahu-led Israeli government’s proposed ...

Why Has Covid Spared Africa?

In the video above, John Campbell, Ph.D., a retired nurse educator, compares the contradictions between the World Health Organization’s directives regarding the need for COVID shots in Africa and the actual situation on the ground. As of December 12, 2022, the WHO was still calling on all countries to get the COVID jab into at least 70% of their populations.1 Its original deadline for meeting this 70% threshold was mid-2022, but by June 2022, only 58 of 194 member states had reached this target.2 Click for Full Text!
