MOSCOW (AP) Boris Nemtsov, a charismatic Russian opposition leader and sharp critic of President Vladimir Putin, was gunned down Saturday near the Kremlin, just a day before a planned protest against the government. The death of Nemtsov, a 55-year-old former deputy prime minister, ignited a fury among opposition figures who assailed the Kremlin for creating an atmosphere of intolerance of any dissent and called the killing an assassination. Putin quickly offered his condolences and called the murder a provocation. Nemtsov was working on a report presenting evidence that he believed proved Russia's direct involvement in the separatist rebellion that erupted in eastern Ukraine ...

(Reuters) - Mexico captured its most wanted drug lord on Friday, former primary school teacher Servando "La Tuta" Gomez, and delivered a boost to a government battered by gang violence. The 49-year-old gang boss was the prime target of President Enrique Peña Nieto's effort to regain control of Michoacan, a western state wracked by clashes between Gomez's Knights Templar cartel and armed vigilantes trying to oust them. The arrest comes as Peña Nieto seeks to quell public outrage in Mexico after the late September abduction and apparent massacre of 43 trainee teachers by corrupt police in league with gang members. That incident triggered Peña ...

6 Reasons Why 'Starship Troopers' Is the New 'The Art of War' Post Date: 2015-02-27 11:19:27 by nativist nationalist

Wall Street raiders and business tycoons still cite Sun Tzu's classic military treatise to explain preparation and tactical prowess. But if you really want an insight into 21st century warfare, you need to read Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. Here's why. It's not just generals and soldiers who keep the The Art of War in print. Businessmen, coaches, and lawyers all seem to get something out of Sun Tzu's 6th century military tome memorizing and repeating passages that speak to the tactics and strategy of success, whether that's on Wall Street or in a war zone. But for all its long-lasting cultural influence, the book is limited by its lack of specifics. ...

If the sadists of ISIS are seekingwith their mass executions, child rapes, immolations, and beheadings of Christiansto stampede us into a new war in the Middle East, they are succeeding. Repeatedly snapping the blood-red cape of terrorist atrocities in our faces has the Yankee bull snorting, pawing the ground, ready to charge again. Nearly three-quarters of Republicans now favor sending ground troops into combat against the Islamic State, says a CBS News poll. The poll was cited in a New York Times story about how the voice of the hawk is ascendant again in the GOP. In April or May 2015, said a Pentagon briefer last week, the Iraqi Army will march north to ...

‘US Spends Millions on Overseas Propaganda, But No One is Buying it’ Post Date: 2015-02-27 03:36:00 by Tooconservative

I am interviewed on RT about John Kerrys appearance on Capitol Hill to demand more money for the US overseas propaganda budget. Kerry is furious that stations like RT are gaining a larger audience in the US and abroad while Washington D.C.s propaganda is being disregarded. I am no fan of any government-funded media, I told RT, but for the US the problem is the product, not the PR. You can read the text of the interview here.

'Jihadi John', the man who has killed at least five hostages in slickly produced videos from Islamic State, has been named by the Washington Post as Mohammed Emwazi. The jihadist, believed to be from West London, first appeared in the killing of James Foley, an American journalist, in August, dressed in black with only his eyes visible. He reappeared in videos of the beheadings of Steven Sotloff, another US journalist, the British aid worker David Haines, Peter Kassig, an American aid worker and the British charity worker Alan Henning. What do we know about Mohammed Emwazi so far? According to the Post, he was born in Kuwait and moved to the UK when he was six. Adam Goldman, one ...

(Reuters) - China is building some "fairly amazing submarines" and now has more diesel- and nuclear-powered vessels than the United States, a top U.S. Navy admiral told U.S. lawmakers on Wednesday, although he said their quality was inferior. Vice Admiral Joseph Mulloy, deputy chief of naval operations for capabilities and resources, told the House Armed Services Committee's seapower subcommittee that China was also expanding the geographic areas of operation for its submarines, and their length of deployment. For instance, China had carried out three deployments in the Indian Ocean, and had kept vessels out at sea for 95 days, Mulloy said. "We know they are out ...

You can always tell the media are hiding something when they obsessively focus on Muslim atrocities someplace else in the world. Cable TV could cover Muslim atrocities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 632 A.D. to the end of time, without repeating themselves. For at least a year after 9/11, I used to turn on the TV, and if I saw a Survivor contestant, Id think, Good. No news. These days, I turn on the TV, and if I see former U.N. ambassador John Bolton, I think, Good. No news. By now, the public knows more about ISIS than they know about the Kardashians. But it has no idea that the very same Senate Democrats who claimed to oppose ...

The 280-pound catfish caught by an Italian fisherman is a record-setting wels catfish. With an enormous weight of 280 pounds and a length of 8.8 feet, the catfish caught by Dino Ferrari has some people wondering whether the monstrous catfish could in fact eat a man if it wanted to do so. According to a Feb. 24 USA Today report, the photo taken of the Italian fisherman and his massive catch certainly seems to show that this thing could just swallow an adult if it wanted to. Its enormous. Italian fisherman Dino Ferrari caught the wels catfish on Thursday in the Po Delta, which is part of the famous Po River. With a length of more than 400 miles, the Po River is the ...

When assessing President Obama, love cannot be measured but treason surely can Post Date: 2015-02-25 13:59:37 by nativist nationalist

Mayor Giuliani and all Neoconservatives too often confuse the sound of their own voices with the voice of God and therefore expect the great unwashed American citizenry to believe what they have said and do what they have ordered without a second-thought. When Giuliani said that President Obama does not love America, he may have expected the citizenry to collectively stand up and agree. Well, much of it has not done so, and probably will not unless Giuliani can tie an unmeasurable love to some recognizable metric. Needless to say, he will not be able to do so. One could, I suppose, turn the table on Mayor Giuliani and his Neoconservative brethren and argue that ...

Despair for Americas future security is a difficult sentiment to subdue as events in the Middle East continue unfolding. The U.S. military can neither win wars hopefully because of political restraint nor effectively train Arab armies. The leaders of both U.S. political parties refuse to recognize that ISIS, al-Qaeda, and like organizations are indeed according to 20- years of their own public words and a quick check of the Koran waging an increasingly popular religious war against the United States, in large part as a response to Washingtons relentless intervention in the Muslim world. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an anti-Assad regime monitoring group, said that 90 Assyrian Christians were abducted as Islamic State fighters were engaged in battles with Kurdish and Assyrian forces. The Observatory claimed that its sources heard radio chatter describing the new captives as crusaders. Ash Carter warns Russia on nukes Post Date: 2015-02-24 14:12:26 by BobCeleste

Ash Carter has quietly thrown down the gauntlet in a lingering dispute with Russia: If President Vladimir Putin continues to violate the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the U.S. could respond in kind. The range of options we should look at from the Defense Department could include active defenses to counter intermediate-range ground-launched cruise missiles; counter-force capabilities to prevent intermediate-range ground-launched cruise missile attacks; and countervailing strike capabilities to enhance U.S. or allied forces, Carter told senators in little-noticed written answers to follow-up questions from his confirmation hearing. The defense secretarys bottom ...
Michigan Cops Protect Citizens by Stealing Leaf Blowers From Cancer Patients Post Date: 2015-02-24 11:19:59 by Deckard

When police raided his house in St. Joseph County, Michigan, Thomas Williams, a 72-year-old cancer patient, had 12 marijuana plants, as permitted by his state's medical marijuana law. But he also had a few unplanted seedlings that he had prepared to replace plants that were dying. The cops said the seedlings put him over the legal limit. They did not charge him with a crime. Instead they took his stuff, including his car, his TV, his cellphone, his shotgun, and $11,000 in cash. They are trying to take his house too. The case, highlighted by the Detroit Free Press, illustrates the cruel, greedy pettiness of civil forfeiture laws that allow police to take assets allegedly connected to ...
ISIS Threatening To Use The Immigration Weapon To Conquer Europe Post Date: 2015-02-23 10:13:57 by nativist nationalist

If the destruction of the United States through mass immigration is Hitlers Revenge, the end of Italy will the Revenge of Gaddafi. ISIS has declared its intention to use the flotillas of illegal immigrants coming to Europe as a weapon. It will succeed, absent a dramatic change in Western leadership. And the worst part of all: events are playing out exactly as the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi predicted. When jihadists acting on behalf of the Islamic State beheaded 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians on the shores of Tripoli, their typically-slick snuff film ended with one of the butchers raising a blood- soaked knife and swearing to conquer Rome. KABUL, Afghanistan The United States is considering slowing its military exit from Afghanistan by keeping a larger-than-planned troop presence this year and next because the new Afghan government is proving to be a more reliable partner, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Saturday. Carter, on his first overseas trip since starting the Pentagon job Tuesday, also said the Obama administration is "rethinking" the counterterrorism mission in Afghanistan, although he did not elaborate. No decisions have been made, but President Barack Obama will discuss a range of options for slowing the U.S. military withdrawal when Afghan president Ashraf Ghani visits the White House ...

The Islamic State is no mere collection of psychopaths. It is a religious group with carefully considered beliefs, among them that it is a key agent of the coming apocalypse. Heres what that means for its strategyand for how to stop it. What is the Islamic State? Where did it come from, and what are its intentions? The simplicity of these questions can be deceiving, and few Western leaders seem to know the answers. In December, The New York Times published confidential comments by Major General Michael K. Nagata, the Special Operations commander for the United States in the Middle East, admitting that he had hardly begun figuring out the Islamic States appeal. We ...

Iran has claimed that the honored U.S. raid on the compound in Abbottabad did not result in the death of Osama Bin Laden. Although this rumor has circulated ever since President Obama declared to the world we got him back in 2011, Iran maintains it has evidence that would prove the narrative surrounding Bin Ladens death to be fictitious. We have credible information that Bin Laden died some time ago of a disease, Iranian Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi stated in a cabinet meeting. If the US military and intelligence apparatus have really arrested or killed Bin Laden, why dont they show him [his ...

Key Ukraine town under rebel control, separatists celebrate DEBALTSEVE, Ukraine (AP) For the rebel fighters who seized control of this strategic town, Thursday was a day of jubilation and bragging of victory. The retreating Ukrainian soldiers were grim, stunned and relieved to have escaped with their lives as the scope of their losses became clearer: at least 13 dead and hundreds missing, captured or wounded. Rebel fighters roamed the debris-littered streets of Debaltseve, laughing, hugging and posing for photos a day after the fall of the furiously contested railway hub. Associated Press journalists found its neighborhoods destroyed and all under the control of the rebels. On the ...
